The next day, Rafe was on the next island where the Eagle Squadron is base as he watched members went about. And some fliers on Razorwhips flew by.
He then went up to 2 members by a team tending a wounded Razorwhip.
"This is a real mess." One of them said.
"Lieutenant McCawley reporting for duty, sir." Rafe said and saluted.
They then turn to Rafe as the leader saluted.
"Good. We'll get you settled into your quarters." He said.
He walks off as Rafe followed him.
"And then introduce you to the crate you'll be flying." He added.
"Yes, sir." Rafe said. "Well, if y'all are patching up burnt wounds right here on the runway, maybe we ought to skip housekeeping and get me in an airplane."
"2 didn't come back, sir." A flyer reported. "We counted only 11."
"Are all Yanks as anxious as you to get themselves killed, Pilot Officer?" The man inquired.
"Not anxious to die, sir." Rafe said. "Just anxious to matter."
He soon heads off as Rafe followed him.
They got to a Razorwhip with a messed-up saddle covered in patches of blood.
"This is yours." He said. "Good chap. Didn't die till he'd landed and slowed his dragon.
Rafe then went up to his assigned dragon.
Back on the main island, in a large house.
A number of people waited in a room as a man in a chair with wheels was rolled in with the help of another, and is actually the island's leader.
"Please be seated, gentlemen." He said.
Everyone then sat down.
"I'm afraid I'm in a bad mood." He said. "Churchill and Stalin are asking me what I'm asking you. How long is this place going to pretend the archipelago is not at war?"
"We've increased food and oil supplements, sir and as far as I know..." A man said.
"What they really need are ships, dragons, arrows, bombs, and men to fight." The leader said. "But our people think Krogan and Johann are Berk's problem. We have to do more. Send more ships and other weapons."
"And keep cannibalizing the fleet?" Another man inquired.
"What choice do we have?" The leader said. "We're building boats while our enemies build armies."
Meanwhile, at their hidden base, some Flyer scouts have just reported to Krogan and Johann about the Riders' whereabouts.
"War is inevitable." Krogan said. "To hide this fact is death. The Riders have messed with us for one too many times, we have no choice but war. There is only 1 way. A massive, sudden strike."
"You see us capable of such a blow?" Johann questioned.
"We will annihilate their new ally fleet in a single attack... at Dragon Harbor." Krogan said.
Meanwhile, at the island's southern bay, a number of ships sat in the water as Skrills flew in the air.
On one of it's arriving ships was Evelyn and her friends.
"This is so exciting." Evelyn said.
"You know there's about a hundred ships on Dragon." Sandra said.
On a nearby ship, some sailors were waving out to them.
"How many sailors per ship?" Betty asked.
"It depends." Sandra said. "There's more on a battleship than a fishing boat. But say, on average... 200?"
"Everything included the flyers, the marines, base personnel." Barbara said.
"I'm still working on the sailors." Betty said.
"Girls, I think the odds are in your favor." Evelyn said.
"Yeah, like 4,000 to one." Martha said.
"It's paradise." Betty said.
Sailors were heard whistling as they continued waving out to them and followed them across the deck of the ship.
"See you on the beach, boys!" Barbara called out.
Betty laughed a bit.
Elsewhere on Dragon Harbor's hangers, many members went about as a flyer on a Skrill flew by
"Hey!" A man named Earl went up to a flyer painting on one of the Skrills. "You know you're not supposed to be painting features on the side of my dragons. And if you do, do make 'em lopsided."
"They were lopsided, Earl." A man named Gooz said working on a board of some kind.
"Look, it says right here." A man named Joe said looking through a book. "'Never ride waves amongst rocks or submerged pilings". See, it says you shouldn't do that."
"Well, how do you gonna know they're submerged if they're submerged?" Gooz inquired.
"Hey, Gooz. What in the heck are you doing?" Earl questioned.
"He's trying to fix this surfboard thing of his." Joe said. "He keeps taking chunks off his nose on the rocks."
"I though on coming my day off, I'm working on my new invention... the Gooz Cruise Fin." Gooz said. "I'm gonna be a rich fella. Every surfboard in the nation's gonna need one."
"Yeah? Well, you're gonna need a broom." Earl said.
Joe then noticed Danny's group with Hiccup and the Riders with their things.
"Check out these new recruits." Joe said.
The group went up to Earl.
"Hi." Danny greeted.
"Alo-ha." Earl saluted.
"Y'all pilots?" Danny asked.
Earl turns to Gooz.
"Uh, we're working on it." Gooz said. "It's a lot of handles and stuff."
Danny stared at him.
Gooz then chuckled. "Pride of the Atlantic."
"Who are you?" Earl asked.
"Terrors of the skies." Danny said.
Elsewhere, Evelyn and her friends arrived at Dragon Harbor's healing station.
"Welcome, ladies." A nurse greeted.
"Hi." Barbara, Sandra, Martha and Evelyn greeted in unison.
"Hi." Betty greeted.
"I have to deal with this poor guy's back before I can show you around." The nurse said tending a man with a bad sunburn on his back.
Evelyn's friend then giggled.
Then a smack was heard.
"Ow!" The man yelped.
A few days later, on the island were the Eagle Squadron is based Rafe was writing a letter as the Squadron leader went up to him.
"Family?" He asked.
"Girl, sir." Rafe said. "The girl."
"A lot of people frown on the Yanks for not being in this war yet." The Squadron leader said. "I'd just like to say if there are many more back home like you God help anyone who goes to war."
He then walks off.
At Dragon Harbor, a sailor rang a bell as it chimes as a number of sailors shoulder shoulder-to-shoulder.
"Atten-hut!" An officer called out. "Attention on deck! Admiral Kimmel, Commander-in-Chief, Atlantic Fleet, on deck."
"Sharp presentation, Captain." Kimmel said.
"Thank you, Admiral Kimmel." The captain said.
"For 4 months now this place been blowing pink smoke about the threat from the Flyers." Kimmel said. "Could makes us lose our fighting edge. I'm determined not to let that happened."
2 officers then appeared and went up to them.
"With your permission, Captain." An officer said and saluted to Kimmel. "Admiral, urgent, from Central." He hands him a file.
Kimmel looked through the papers and soon shook his head.
"I'm supposed to keep this fleet battle-ready to take on the Flyers... cover half the darn ocean." Kimmel said. "Now they want me to transfer another 12 destroyers to the north. Don't they know what we're facing out here?"
"They feel Berk is the greater danger?" An officer said.
"I'm assuming these risk assessments include here?" Kimmel said.
"Well, Dragon Harbor is too shallow for an aerial attack." An officer said. "We're surrounded by boat nets. All we have to worry about is sabotage, so we bunched our dragons together to make them easier to protect. Distance is our ally, Admiral."
"You analysts got it all figured out, don't you?" Kimmel said. "The smart enemy hits you exactly where you think you're safe."
Meanwhile, at their hidden base, the Hunters and Flyers were going over a battleplan as model ships were in a pool of water.
"From a night scout, I was able to make out these drawing from their battleship row and many hangers." A Flyer reported.
"Look at the ships - all grouped." Johann said. "Perfect targets."
A hunter then lead Krogan and Johann over to a tube-like weapon.
"We have fixed these water weapons to allow for Dragon Harbor." A Flyer explained.
A hunter then placed wooden fins on the weapon.
"Wooden fins - this makes the weapons able to travel through the shallow harbor." The hunter explained and showed a drawing board of the weapon.
Krogan and Johann nodded with improvement.
"When Dragon Harbor is still asleep in the morning mist, we will attack with full force." Krogan said.
Meanwhile, on the island, unaware of a full-scale attack being planned. Evelyn was with her friends.
"I'm no good at church." Betty said.
"What do you mean, sweetie?" Sandra asked.
"Well, when I'm up there getting my slate wiped clean, I can't help but think how too dirty it up again." Betty said.
"I got inventory supplies." Evelyn said.
They then groaned as Evelyn heads off.
"Kill me now." Martha said. "Could you be any more boring?"
"Don't bother." Betty said. "Sunday, she writes Rafe, 10 pages instead of the usual 5."
Barbara then sighed. "Gosh, I wish I was in love."
Then a Gronckle pulling a wagon appeared with Anthony and Red appeared and stopped by them.
Anthony then winked. "Hey, sweetheart."
Sandra only gave him a dry wave.
"She hates me." Anthony muttered.
"Good to see you, Red." Betty smiled.
"Sure good to see you, too, Betty." Red smiled. "What're you doing? Wanna come for a ride?"
Betty nodded.
"Come on." Red said hopping in the back of the wagon.
"Yeah, I'll be your chauffeur." Anthony said.
Meanwhile, at Dragon Harbor, many sailors cheered as they were on a ship as a boxing match was happening between a cook named Dorie, and a muscular guy.
Gooz, Danny, Snotlout, Astrid and Heather soon appeared as they watched.
The fight went on as Dorie struck the sailor in the face twice.
"That-a-boy! Be a mad dog!" Another sailor cook cheered.
"You hit pretty hard... for a cook!" The sailor said.
He then struck Dorie hard in the face knocking him back.
"All right, Walker, who you got?" Gooz asked. "Come on, find tomorrow rum."
"I'll take the cook." Danny said.
"Why? You don't like money." Gooz frowned.
The sailor hits Dorie hard and knocks him back.
"Come on!" The sailor cook said. "Get out there now!"
Dorie then ducked as the sailor swung a fish trying to hit him as many sailors exclaimed almost getting hit themselves.
"Whoa!" A sailor exclaimed holding a small dog.
The sailor then struck Dorie hard.
"I'll put 5 on it." Danny said making a bet.
"Done." Gooz said settling it.
"You know, what? What the heck." Snotlout said bringing a pouch of gold pieces out. "My money's on the bug guy."
"Okay, 10 pieces says Dorie wins." Astrid said making a bet.
"20." Snotlout said.
"Done."
The sailor struck Dorie hard in the face.
"Against a mechanic?" Gooz said. "That guy eats nails."
"How's it feel up when out of the engine room?" Dorie asked. "Sunlight botherin' you?"
The sailor then struck Dorie hard in the face with a punch.
"Ow." Dorie said.
He then uppercuts Dorie.
"Man, he's getting all busted up in there!" The sailor cook said.
The sailor punched Dorie said.
"Move! Move!" Gooz cheered.
"Come on!" Snotlout cheered.
A bell then rang.
"Come here, we gotta talk." The sailor cook said. "Get down here."
Dorie went over to him as another sailor poured some water on him.
"He can't hurt us." The sailor cook said.
"He can hurt us." Dorie said. "He cut us. We bleeding."
"Bleeding?!" The sailor cook said in disbelief and dabs his finger on Dorie's cut over his eyebrow and tastes the blood. "That's a scratch! Now you see this here?" He held out a bag full of gold pieces. "This here's the hard-earned gold pieces of every pot-scrubbin' dish-washin' chop in this here fleet. Now if we don't win. The teeny here has to find himself another battleship! There's no way I'm going back to the Arrowhead empty-handed."
"Don't worry about the money." Dorie said. "I'mma send that smug snipe back below decks where he belongs."
The bell then rang as Dorie heads back out.
"Come on, now, we the man!" The sailor cook cheered. "You the man! He slapped your mama, remember?! Be a son of a witch!"
The fight was back on as the sailor attempts to strike Dorie as he avoids it. And then Dorie struck hard at the sailor's face and then hard at his gut.
"Look at this! All right, Dorie!" Danny cheered.
"Now we're talking!" Heather cheered.
Dorie then punched the sailor hard in the face knocking him back.
"No!" Snotlout complained.
"Yeah!" The sailor cook cheered.
The sailor got up and then Dorie struck him in the face, and he soon drops to his knees.
"That's enough! That's enough!" The referee said stepping in.
The sailor tried to regain his senses but then drops flat on the deck as everyone cheered and a bell rang.
"Oh-ho-ho!" Danny cheered turning to Gooz. "Where's my money?"
"Nah, fight's rigged." Gooz said.
"Pay up." Astrid said.
Snotlout groaned and hands her the pouch and angrily grumbles walking off.
"We're rich!" The sailor cook cheered and kissed the money bag and laughed.
Later, Dorie was having his scratch stitched up.
"How'd you get this?" Evelyn asked.
"Boxing." Dorie said.
"Did you win?" Evelyn asked.
"Yes, ma'am." Dorie answered.
"And what do you get for winning?" Evelyn asked finishing up.
"Respect." Dorie said.
They soon headed outside.
"So, why do you have to fight with your fists to get respect?" Evelyn asked.
"I left my momma and joined the Navy to see the world... become a man." Dorie said. "They made a cook. Not even that. I clean up after sailors eat. 2 years, they even let me fire a weapon."
"Well, let's hope you don't have to." Evelyn said.
"Yes, ma'am." Dorie said placing his hat on.
"You take care, Dorie Miller." Evelyn said.
"You, too, ma'am." Dorie said and heads off.
Author's Note:
For HTTYD fans, I've recently heard of this new series called, DRAGONS: The Nine Realms. Said to take place 1,300 years into the future.
But I don't think the new dragon is truly a Night-Light.
It has a different shaped snout, it's wings sport a claw on the joint, and it's tail fins are more of a triangular shape. Like a shark fin, and even sports another making it similar to a plane tail.
I believe this is a new subspecies of Fury dragon.
