p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"AN: Hello everyone! Thanks for taking the time to read this story. This is my second fic on the site and my first Avatar one, so please be kind./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"Special Note: This takes place in the present time, so its AU. Also, I tried to make everything similar to show, yet different. Like of course the plot is different. Everyone is older. For example, Aang and Toph are 14 instead of 12. This takes place in Aang's POV./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"Disclaimer: I don't own Avatar, nor anyone in it./p

p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"Toph Bei Fong's the absolute best in Southern Mantis (AN: a type of martial art) and that's one of the reasons most people come to martial arts tryouts. They want to see rough and tough tomboy Toph kick everyone's ass. She was good at what she did being naturally strong both physically and in will./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"See, Toph is blind so she feels vibrations from her feet to 'see'. Anyone who doesn't know her always thinks 'oh what a poor, helpless, blind girl!' and she absolutely hates that. Most times when a person says it, they leave with a black eye. Her parents were the main culprits though and unfortunately, she couldn't do anything to them so they were the only ones free from her wrath. Not that they knew she had one; she was very good at playing the weak little innocent girl role. The effects lead her to become somewhat of a rebel though. At times she uses the judgmental comments to her advantage though; mostly to manipulate people by using her act./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"Toph's very rich (coming from the wealthiest family in definitely the country though maybe the world), an only child, and has a very protective set of parents (I should know; I've been over her house). The only reason they show me so much respect is because I'm a descendant of the Nomad family who were masters of every martial art practiced; I'm the only one left though. The rest of the family has already met their graves, sadly enough./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"Naturally, being good at every art was passed down to me as well, but for right now I still need some more training for me to truly be a master. Toph just happens to be my Southern Mantis teacher and is waaaayyy better than me at it right now. Not only that, but despite her young age, some teachers have even called her the best Southern Mantis fighter they've ever seen (not necessarily in the world). Quite a feat for someone who's only 14. Not that I'm a slouch myself- just nowhere as good as her./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"I think that's enough about Toph though for now. My name's Aang and I'm a pretty popular guy in school (because of my family history and rare talents). But even with my popularity and my rapid increase of skill, I still can't get the one girl of my dreams to like me; Katara. Katara's nice, intelligent, fun, and pretty. I'm not sure if she likes me back or not, but I like her- a lot. I may even love her actually. The main problem with this was that she has an over protective older brother. Though, now that I think about it, that isn't a real problem. See, her brother Sokka and I go way back, so he trusts me./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"No, now that I think about it, the real problem is that I think Katara may like this other guy. He's a prince and his name is Zuko. I can't understand why she would like him though. He's such a jerk and has this weird rivalry thing with me for some reason or the other. Not to mention he has that freaky prodigy sister Azula. How could such a lovely girl as Katara like someone like him? Maybe it was the whole 'silent rebel' thing he had going on./p
p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"The point is, Toph seems to be friends with Katara despite their somewhat large personality clashes. It's all because they're both in the same fighting class. Oh, I forgot to mention that earlier; Katara also knows how to fight. Isn't she perfect? But I was thinking of asking Toph for help to tell me what Katara likes and stuff so I can start a conversation. Hey, she might agree if I bribe her. Not to say I couldn't come up with a conversation and talk to Katara without Toph's help, but it would be easier this way and I may find something we both have in common that I wouldn't have to lie about to keep her interest. So wish me luck; I'm getting ready to ask Toph Bei Fong, the most stubborn girl I know, for help with getting a girl to like me in return./p

p style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;"AN: So, there's the first chapter. Tell me what you think. Be honest. I hope everyone enjoyed this prologue. I know it's kind of short, but I'm working on it. Please review. :)/p
