A Little Background Music

Angela opened her dorm door, admitting Sam.

"Didn't mean to disturb your studying."

She removed her earbuds and smiled, closing her Chemistry book. Angela sat down on her sofa, patting the space next to her. "I'm due for a break."

"What were you listening to?" Sam indicated her iPod as he sat.

"Rachmaninoff—keeps me focused. It was the music for my long program."

"?"

Angela reached for her laptop, booted it up and slipped in a disc. "Mom sent me this," she explained as the video started. "…representing the Colorado Skating Club, Angela Cardini."

Sam watched as a fifteen-year old Angela, in a sparkling silver costume with a flowing lacy skirt skated to the center of the ring. The camera zoomed in on her smiling face and dancing eyes, poised for her cue. A piano played over the loudspeakers as she began skating smoothly around the ice.

Sam tuned out the announcer discussing the skater's technique, captivated by Angela's skating prowess. The seemingly effortless movements that peaked and flowed with the music pinged a memory: Dean moving skillfully, effortlessly in the night, tracking a monster to their final confrontation.

The program ended.

"That was amazing." And they both smiled.

A/N: Just a reminder, Angela is my OC, Sam's first girl friend at Stanford.
