![]() Author has written 17 stories for Ranma, Harry Potter, Naruto, and Familiar of Zero. I'm a writer who loves to be the best he can become, then be better than that. I've written quite a few fanfics in years past, though most of them aren't hosted here. I like to create stories and come up with interesting stories to further improve myself as a writer and to expand my creative mind. Though I wrote mostly Ranma fanfics, I've also dabbled with Neon Genesis Evangelion, Animaniacs, Sailor Moon, and now exploring Naruto. Soon, I'll have some more stories up for reading, past and more present creations. Current manga titles I enjoy include Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo!, Naruto, Bleach, Kure-Nai, GTO, Kurohime, RosarioVampire, Ruler of the Land, Whistle!, Onidere, Change 123, A Certain Magical Index, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Witch Hunter, Freezing, and Azumanga Daioh. January 7, 2013 November 13, 2011 August 26, 2011 April 8, 2011 Challenge time! While I can completely understand dislike for certain characters, there are few fics that actually either justify it, ir even attempt to mold said hated character into someone more likable. By likable, I'm not referencing endless embarrassing plots that humiliate said character(s). I mean, honest-to-God retooling the character so that he comes out better.I'm not proposing pumping up your favorite characters -- God knows there's so many of those going around -- I'm talking about taking a hated character and writing them so that they are more likable, at least in your opinion, someone you can get behind and cheer on to reach his or her goal(s). Srsly. Bashing gets old; there's almost no variety to it at all, and it hits on expressly predictable, cliched formula to do whatever they intend to do... which is also heavily cliched, too, come to think of it. What I would love to see are plots that take advantage of the hate and make something good out of the character instead of reducing him to a one-line joke. Especially when it's a main character that's being bashed. This challenge goes out to everyone, especially talented writers. I've been turned off by some authors' works in the past, due to the fact that their bashing equaled anger management training. If you really want me to know about your issues, I'll have to charge you 150 per chapter; I'm not reading your trauma for free. So, let's call this the Hate the Hate challenge. Conditions are as follow: 1) the character(s) in Q must not be made into anything contrary to his/her nature. Which sounds like it's defeating the point, but likely, people would just rewrite the character to be completely fruity or something else they dislike in order to "fix" said character. Besides, it's not fun to read a story where the character's name is the only thing you recognize. I'm looking for evolution from canon, and not a contrary flip. This means there has to be a reason why s/he changes that doesn't equate "Word of God says so." This rule also means that you have to keep the characters in that particular universe, crossovers notwithstanding (i.e. - no high school fics, or other "real world" stories where the character clearly originated from neither in canon). 2) The changes have to be explained. In other words, show your work. Yes, this actually rules out, "well, s/he was really like this all the time, but was in denial" mode of explaining it away. This amounts to character deconstruction, so obviously, we want to know what's going on, and not be told that "Santa Claus brought it over." 3) No rewriting characters' sexual preferences to suit your whims. And yes, I'm horrified to have to actually write that. This means if the character is canonically straight, s/he will remain straight in this challenge. If s/he's gay, then s/he remains gay. A quick test for canonical accuracy -- if you think of a pairing and it makes you giggle like a schoolgirl or squeal, it's not eligible for this challenge. This doesn't mean you have to stick with canon pairings, though, but that, too, falls under the category of "show your work." 4) There's no limit in how far you can go, but at least spend 5,000 words on it. It can be a oneshot, a miniseries, or perhaps a great epic story. Also, aim for something a little more creative. I would fully expect most, if not all, of the challenges to be what-if premises, like "What if Mousse defeated Akari's Sumo Pig instead of Ryoga?" or "what if Sasuke never went home that night?" and therefore go off in completely different directions from the source material. It's painful cramming a story into an ill-fitting mold, so let it go where it wants to go. Please PM any questions or story links related to this challenge. Thank you. |
