Note: This is kind of based loosely on a Nalu Mermaid AU comic I had made during the beginning of the year a since I thought it would be a fun idea to write. Also this one is pretty long.

Prompt: Day 3—Instinct

Summary: It was like an instinct to her to wonder what lay on the surface. It seemed to call to her as she grew curious of a certain shadow that always seemed to be around.

To the Surface

It was a quiet evening on a particular summer day. The ocean swayed with gentle blue waves as the sun shone brighter than it had any of the previous weeks. Land and aquatic creatures alike had taken to resting on this hot day. Among the creatures of the sea was a small white, almost dog-like, creature with big black beady eyes and a cone shaped nose. Wobbling around the sea with small paddles of its fins, occasionally getting pushed back by a sudden current before proceeding upwards towards the surface.

A seagull who had been floating lifelessly on top of the waves let out an alarmed squawk as it was suddenly poked on the behind. The bird was quick to flap itself a few inches over before looking down towards a small carrot-like object poking out of the water's surface. The bird glared, watching the object turn left and right, before ducking it's head underwater to meet big black eyes. The small white creature only shivered as the bird eyed him with a crazed look and when the bigger animal licked it's beak, that was all it took for the little fish to start swimming away. Haphazardly moving in zig zags as it avoided the sharp beak breaking through the surface of the water to get a hold of it. Once the little creature had swam low enough that the bird could no longer reach, it couldn't help but swim in a shaky little circle, wiggling its tail in a little dance before proceeding on to its destination in a languid pace. Occasionally stopping by to circle other fish as it passed by the coral reef and headed down towards a wall of seaweed. The small fish pushed past the plants to reveal a large hole and quickly swam past before exciting on the other side.

As it swam further down, it happened to pass by a small orange building made of coral reef. In its fast paced wobble, the little creature had failed to notice when it caught the attention of a certain mermaid.

"Plue?" The blue-haired mermaid looked out towards the window in bewilderment, eyes following as the little alien-like creature skedaddled away. She blinked for a couple of minutes before looking out the window to the left. Whenever the little guy was around so was a certain blonde mermaid though no golden locks were in sight. "Hmm." The girl just shrugged it off before reopening her pearl book.

Though just as she turned the page to continue onto the thrilling mystery there was a rush of water with a very familiar hushed voice, "Quicker Plue!"

The blue-haired girl only gave the rush of blonde hair a quick glance before looking back at her book. "Oh, it's just Lucy…" the mermaid paused, eyes stilling before widening as her head snapped back to the open window, "Oh shoot! It's Lucy!"

Quickly discarding the sea-shell book, she tore open the seaweed door as she looked out to see a small dot of blonde along with a smaller white dot circling it. The mermaid silently cursed as she propelled herself towards the two disappearing figures, though she abruptly stopped. Her eyes widened as she watched the two dots go past the hole and couldn't help but gasp.

"Oh no, I should've known she would do this!" She quickly followed after the two.

Though just past the barrier, a blonde-haired mermaid couldn't help but laugh, twirling around in a circle as she held onto Plue's fins, "You did it, Plue!" She quickly rewarded the creature with an affectionate kiss to the top of the head, the little white fish responding with an excited twirl.

The mermaid only laughed at the little creature's dance, tightening the seaweed satchel closer to her as she playfully bumped the fish with her tail. She then turned her gaze towards the shimmering waters above, biting her lip in excitement as her eyes widened in wonder. She couldn't help but smile as looked towards her little partner, "Come on Plue! Let's get going!"

Plue twirled in another circle before joining the mermaid as they began to swim closer to the surface, almost at the edge but far enough that they wouldn't get spotted easily from the surface. They continued for a couple of miles, and Lucy couldn't help but swim a little faster as a group of rocks finally reached their vision. Once they had reached the rock, Lucy gently touched it, smiling a little brighter. When she felt a nudge on her back, she looked behind her to see Plue nodded his head towards the surface of the water. The girl bit the inside of her cheek as she smiled, turning around with eyes round with excitement. Pale hands reached towards the rock as she held her grip steady, looking for the little grooves that seemed to be burned into the back of her mind. Once she felt her anchors, she tightened her grip and started to pull herself off.

Though before she could go above the water, she gasped as she was suddenly pulled back, causing her to loosen her grip on the rock. She twirled around, eyes wide as her heart suddenly felt heavy with dread. Though once her senses calmed down enough to recognize the orange scales, she let out an exhausted breath, leaning back as she held her hand to her heart.

"Gosh Levy, don't scare me like that! I thought you were Erza."

The blue-haired mermaid only scowled, arms crossed as she heaved, "Oh! You! You better be glad I didn't get her here because I honestly should! Lucy! What in Poseidon's name are you doing!?"

"Going to the surface," the blonde chirped as she readjusted her strap, thanking Plue who had helped her retrieve some of the things that fell out of her pouch. Levy however wasn't pleased as her brows furrowed as she opened her mouth comically wide, eyes blinking rapidly.

She then groaned as she rubbed her forehead. Just as she feared, her daring friend was attempting to do the very thing she thought she was, again. "The surface? Again? Lucy! You know it's forbidden!"

"Oh, but Levy!" Lucy grabbed onto the smaller mermaid's hands, eyes sparkling so bright that Levy felt like she had to squint as to not be blinded, "It's just so-"

"Dangerous." Levy interrupted but then squeaked as Lucy started to spin them in a circle, looking towards the surface with a look that the blue-haired girl had soon way too many times and wasn't fond of. That dreamy-eyed look never led to any good.

"So-"

"Deadly."

"So beautiful!"

Levy let out another undignified squeak as Lucy suddenly let go to twirl around before swimming closer to the top of the ocean. Levy sent the girl a small scowl as she picked herself up from the seafloor as she brushed off a couple of pieces of seaweed that she got tangled in. Glaring slightly at Plue who wiggled in laughter before turning to look at the blonde who stared at her with wide brown eyes and a pout.

Great, she knew that look as well. Levy couldn't help but frown and cross her arms, "Lucy. You know it's more dangerous this time of year. The shallows are already not the safest place for merfolk and it doesn't help that the ocean is a little lower now."

Lucy sighed as she swam towards her friend, "I know, I know. But," she played with the ends of her hair as she looked upwards, "It really is so amazing Levy."

Levy only sighed as she took a seat on one of the rocks, sharing a look with Plue who snuggled against her.

"So I've heard."

"I mean it, Levy! It's like it's calling to me! Like it's in me to do this!"

Levy held back a snort as she watched her friend, "Ah yes, because we live in the ocean just to go to the surface."

"Oh, but Lev! It's meant to be! I mean, the colors are just-"

Levy, hearing this a million times but couldn't help but find it a little amusing as she smiled at her friend who continued to ramble on. She remembered it as if it was the other day when she had almost gotten a heart attack after the pink-scaled mermaid told her of her recent adventure in secret. Although talking about the surface was not as controversial anymore due to them being young adults now, it was still forbidden for merfolk to go to.

So it had been a huge shock to Levy when Lucy had told her of her daring expedition towards the forbidden location. Even passing out only to wake up to a panicking Lucy, who confirmed what she said was true, before passing out again. It had taken her a couple of days to get back to being almost semi-normal, still traveling with a hunched back and wide eyes, almost scared someone found out. Though when reflecting on it now, Levy felt like she should have seen it coming. The girl always had an almost obsession-like curiosity for the world above, it was bound to happen sooner than later.

That had been almost two years ago and somehow the blonde had still been able to keep this whole thing a secret, excluding Levy and Plue of course, as they were the only ones who knew.

Levy only sighed as she finally swam up, holding onto the blonde's shoulders which caused her to stop talking as Levy eyed her with a look, "...You promise you'll let me borrow that new Melon book?"

Lucy blinked for a couple of seconds before grinning widely and quickly throwing herself into her friend for a huge, both girls laughing. "Oh gosh! I love you, Levy, you're the best friend anyone could have."

Levy laughed as she shook her head, "Ok, ok! Just make sure to be safe okay! If Erza comes by I'll tell her you were at the corals next to the granges."

"Thanks, Levy!" The blonde's voice had already become smaller as she was quick to reach towards the surface rocks again. Plue swimming around Levy and rubbing against her cheeks affectionately before trying to catch up with the other mermaid.

Though the blue-haired mermaid didn't leave entirely without watching her friend with a concerned gaze. As much as she knew her friend loved her little adventures, this would soon have to stop. The royal guards had already recently caught word of a mermaid breaking the law and as much as she would do for her friend, she didn't know how she'd be able to protect her from their red-headed friend. As lovely as the royal guard was, if she was to find out about this, it was safe to say that they wouldn't be making it out alive.

Levy could only shiver at the thought. Sparing one more glance at the blonde who had reached herself to the rock before rushing back home to come up with a cover story to save her friend yet again.

"Honestly owes me her soul at this point," the mermaid chuckled as she quickly ducked down towards the safety of the deeper waters to keep her hidden.

Lucy, who glanced at the retreating figure could only smile in gratefulness before turning to look at the white fish dancing around in circles in excitement.

"Ok Plue, you make sure to keep a lookout."

The creature only bobbed up and down before swimming back and forth.

Lucy only shook her head with a small laugh before tightening her grip on the rocks. "Okay," she whispered to herself, "Here we go!"

The sensation of the breeze that passed by caused little goosebumps to appear on her skin and Lucy couldn't help but shiver a little as a giggle escaped. Quickly readjusting her grip to hold onto a higher spot on the rock above the water to gently pull herself up. Plue, who was still underwater, occasionally poked his head out to look at the blonde before going back. Lucy smiled as she lay her back against the side of the rock, looking towards the skyline in excitement.

Although the sky was still blue, Lucy couldn't help but gnaw at her lip lightly as she could spot light speckles of a purplish pink along the horizon.

This would always be one of her favorite things about the world so different from her own. The way it just changed colors would always amaze her.

When they had been just little fingerlings, they had been taught about the dangers of the surface. Yet it had only served to spark the young mermaid's interest much to the dismay of her parents. At first, she had been satisfied with just listening to the school teacher Mavis talk about the weird world just above them along with weird creatures that moved with two sticks. Though as she grew older, she had gotten bored of idle stories and had gone to the libraries. But there was never a shell book that ever said more than the other did; however, she did end up learning that the strange stick moving people were called humans.

She had gotten in trouble when she spoke the word when questioning an elder in the library and even had the royal guards come to her home to talk to her. To say she got a good scolding from her parents would be an understatement. They had practically chewed her ears out and put her under strict supervision for months. Though she had finally gotten the guts to look at the world above when she had been chasing after Plue. They had been playing around and had gotten so close to the surface that when trying to grab him, her hand accidentally peeked out from the surface of the water. The two of them had been so shocked that they were quick to stop playing tag and quickly swam home. She tried to ignore it for a couple of hours but the adrenaline rush she got was enough to force her back towards the shallows.

It was only half an hour later that she burst through her and Levy's little house fort around the outskirts close to the hole did she tell her friend of her adventure. And it was still as exhilarating as it had been the first time as she enjoyed the feeling of the sun on her skin. She hummed in content as she leaned a little further into the cover of the rock.

She had recently found this little hideout a couple of days ago. Her previous secret hangout had been a pile of rocks farther from her, though due to the royal guards finding it, she couldn't go there anymore. Upon remembering what happened she quickly opened her satchel and took out a long white… thing with black stripes. She still had no idea what it was as she placed it in front of her to examine it closer.

It almost looked like seaweed, except it was thicker and didn't taste like it either when she had licked it. It felt scratchy to her tongue and even Plue had quickly spit it out after taking a huge bite.

She played with the ends, tilting her head as she poked it. She jumped when her lap was suddenly covered with a rush of cold water when she squeezed it.

"Huh," she picked it up with the ends of her fingers, "Humans sure are interesting Plue." She looked down towards the little fish who popped its nose out of the water to swirl in a circle as agreement.

She had ended up finding it when she almost got a look at a human. She had been at her usual spot when she heard a sudden shout of laughter and loud yelling and quickly dived under the water. When she thought the coast was clear, she slowly peaked her head over the punch of rocks before hearing the laugh again. The sound had been deep and immediately caught her attention as she looked towards a head of pink. She blinked a little in awe, briefly looking down at her tail to compare, as she continued to watch from afar. She tilted her head in thought as she looked at the things in front of her.

"Is this a… human?" She had silently asked herself as she continued to watch. From the limited information she heard, she was sure that this pink-haired individual was a human but she still couldn't make out what the floating blue blob was. Plue, who had been with her, wiggled nervously as he tried to push on her stomach though the girl didn't budge. Instead finding it fascinating when the male let out a roar and the floating being giggled. The deep laugh seemed to send shivers down her back and her heart started to get a weird tingly feeling.

Growing curious, Lucy took the chance to swim a little closer, though now ducking her head underneath the water. Only peaking out when she was positive that the floating object on the water completely blocked her from their view. This time being able to hear their conversation more clearly.

"Just you wait! I'll beat you this time, Happy!"

"Ha! I'd like to see you try!"

Lucy stared curiously as they threw out some string-type contraption. Though she was more curious about how this human looked and started to slowly approach the center of the side, growing closer to seeing the man's face. Excitement bubbling up in the pit of her stomach. Plue, curious as well, had approached the objects floating on the surface and took a curious bite out of the left one, only splashing in panic when he was suddenly lugged out of the water.

"Natsu! I got one!" The blue creature landed down onto the floating device, holding up the fish triumphantly.

"Good job bud- Hey! That was supposed to be mine!"

When Lucy caught sight of Plue thrashing in the air, she let out a gasp, "Plue!"

The pink-haired man froze as he suddenly turned around with narrowed eyes, "Hey bud, did you hear-" He yelped as the boat suddenly shifted, and the blue cat shrieked. His eyes widened as he looked towards the sea, "What the heck is this!"

Lucy kept rocking till Plue was dropped in the water, quickly getting him loose before swimming away. During the whole dilemma was when the white object had been dropped into the water, and Plue in his panic had gotten entangled in it while swimming away.

"Hey, my scarf! Where's my scarf! What- wait! Hey you! Where are you going!"

Though neither Lucy or Plue look back as they escaped. Plue had been so traumatized that he ended up staying covered by the coral reef at their little hideout which didn't go unnoticed by an observant Levy. Though thankfully, the little fish was back in spirits the next day.

"So this is a, scarf," she spoke the words slowly when remembering what the human had said before. Lucy closed her eyes as she held the object in her hands, slightly falling into a daydream as she dreamed of the laughter she had heard days ago.

Levy had been right when she had repeatedly told her about how dangerous humans were, though probably not the way she wanted Lucy to think of them. Instead of finding her curiosity satiated, Lucy found herself to be even more interested than she was. Worse, she was having constant daydreams of this human. All she could think of was his laugh and when in her panic to save Plue, she had caught a look at his smile. It had made her heart feel uncomfortably tight and her stomach tickled in content. Now free to fall into her usual daydreams, her thoughts of him only seemed to grow stronger. She even found herself wondering, hoping, that she would be able to see the man again.

As Lucy fell into her daydreams, Plue splashed around the water in panic. The girl had long fallen into a sleep-like daze and the little sea creature could no longer see her face with the tides lowering. The end of her tail, which had previously been in the water, was now fully exposed and he couldn't even jump high enough to reach her. The small creature tried in vain to grab her attention but began to swim in a short circular path quickly as it caught sight of something in the distance approaching.

Lucy, on the other hand, shifted around slightly in discomfort as she wiggled a little. The temperature is now getting to her even though she was mostly covered in shade. "Mmm." She opened her eyes before they widened when she realized how low the water was now.

"Oh shoot! Levy is going to kill me."

The sun had already started to decline, now approaching the horizon as the sky had long since shifted into its orange purple hues.

"Hey!" Lucy froze as she heard a voice call from behind her, her head whipping over the ledge of the rock to see the mystery that had been haunting her for years.

Fast approaching her direction was the exact man she had been wondering about and he looked better than anything she had imagined. His hair was as pink as the last time she remembered but she could now see his defining jaw and sharp nose. His eyes were slanted and dark as he frowned at the girl. Even his angered face intrigued the girl though this was dangerous territory and she needed to leave, now.

Lucy gulped as she shifted to conceal her tail more, looking back to the water. There was no way she could get back into the water safely without scraping her scales. Her scales had already started to dry out and any longer she'd be fried.

"Hey, don't you ignore me!"

"Natsu, I think a weirdo took your scarf."

Lucy squealed as she was suddenly face-to-face with the weird blue floating creature she had seen with the male. In her panic, she tried to get away before her arm was grabbed tightly. She looked to her left with wide brown eyes as she stared back at the glaring man. She gulped nervously as the man eyed her, his eyes widening in shock when he finally looked at her tail but then seemed to widen even more. She jumped a little when he shouted.

"Hey! I knew you took my scarf!" He quickly grabbed the scarf off her lap and held it protectively, grimacing as he viewed how soggy it had gotten. He then turned to stare at the girl, "What kind of weirdo steals someone's scarf."

"S-steal!" Lucy squeaked, eyes wide, "I didn't mean to steal it!"

"Sure you didn't," he scoffed as he eyed her curiously, "So is that real? Or just your thing?"

His grin seemed to briefly throw her off as she sat in a daze. He frowned a little as he poked her forehead, "Hellooo? Anyone in there? Can. You. Understand. Me?"

Lucy scowled as she shoved his finger away, blushing as she crossed her arms, "I-I can!"

Natsu laughed as he raised his hands, "Woah, didn't mean to offend ya…"

Lucy blinked as Natsu stared at her, giving her a little grin before coughing. "You know… you are…"

"O-oh!" Lucy's blush had deepened, "Lucy." Silently cursing herself for revealing her actual name to the man.

"Well nice to meet ya, Luigi!"

Lucy scowled, she never heard such a name before but she knew she didn't like the way it sounded. Quietly retorting that her name was Lucy.

Though he only seemed to grin brighter as he plopped down next to her.

"Hey! Hey! Lushie!" When the flying creature came in front of her face again, she couldn't help but back up a little and squeak.

She immediately grabbed onto the man's arm, "P-please get away creature."

"Creature!" The thing cried in anguish before plopping itself right down on her lap, "I'll have you know that I'm a cat!"

"...A cat?" Lucy tilted her head, curiosity overriding her fear as loosened her grip on the man's arm and leaned forward a little.

Happy only grinned, puffing out his chest, "Aye! A cat! I came from an egg."

"Interesting," Lucy muttered as she stared at the cat with wide eyes. The man, who had heard her comment, couldn't help but let out a little snort that caught her attention.

"What did you think he was?" Natsu asked, eyes looking in Lucy's as she shrugged, pursing her lips in thought.

"I thought he was some type of blob."

"Blob!" Happy cried in shock as he stood by the corner of the rock, his back turned as he sulked dramatically. Muttering blob constantly, causing Lucy to feel a little bad. Though Natsu had apparently found it hilarious as he broke off in snorts, even almost falling into the water when he rolled on his back.

"Oh wow Luigi, you sure are a weirdo huh?"

Lucy only pouted, brows slightly furrowed as she tried not to frown, "I'm not a weirdo."

The male only raised a brow before pointing towards her tail, "Yea? Then why are you dressed like that?" Lucy squeaked when Natsu touched her tail and Natsu jumped when he felt the rough texture of the scales. Staring at Lucy with wide eyes.

"Wait, so you really are a real weirdo?"

"Real weirdo!?" Lucy scowled as she furrowed her brows. Though her embarrassment only grew as he suddenly looked at her with wide curious eyes.

"Hey, what's down there? Can you gobble up lots of fish like a whale? What do you do down there all day?"

Lucy backed up as the male started to approach her more, before she knew it, she let out a squeak as she was suddenly back into the water. Plue, who had been swimming in nervous circles around the rock, jumped to rub against her face. Though before she knew it, she was pulled out from underneath and face-to-face with the man,

He held her close as he wrapped his arm around her waist. Lucy rested her hands against his chest as she looked up, feeling her cheeks burning as his gaze somehow seemed to soften.

"Hey, sorry. I didn't mean to scare ya." His voice was so soft that Lucy felt like she could barely recognize the man who had previously been shouting before.

"I-It's ok…" she mumbled, looking away.

They stood like that for a while in the silence before Happy chirped up, "They like each other~" The mermaid immediately blushed and sent a withering glare towards the cat, lips pouting and the man couldn't help but laugh when looking at her get angry.

"Hmm, you know what," Lucy squealed as she was suddenly lifted into the air, her arms instantly wrapping around Natsu's neck as he began to take them to shallow waters, "I think I'll keep ya." By now, the water only reached up to his thigh, and Lucy couldn't help but panic as they got closer to the shore.

Brown eyes stared at the mischievous smile on the male as she squeaked out, "W-what!"

"Oh, I wonder if she'll taste yummy!"

"Probably," Natsu grinned down at her as Lucy stared back at him in shock. Not knowing if her heart was beating faster due to being so close to this warm comforting heat or that she was scared that she may turn into a meal.

Happy tried licking her tail which only caused her to squeak again and tried to slap him away with her tail, "S-stop that! You cat!"

Natsu only laughed at their interaction before yelping in pain, almost dropping Lucy into the water causing her to tighten her hold on his neck as she let out a squeak.

"Hey!" Natsu growled as he was suddenly stabbed into the leg again. He looked down, glaring as he caught sight of a weird-looking fish swimming around his leg. Poking at his leg, he scowled as he tried to gently shove it away with his leg but that only triggered the creature to attack him more.

"H-hey! Don't h-hurt Plue." Lucy couldn't help but shuffle uncomfortably as the two strangers stared at her. Her voice dying out in a soft whisper as she fiddled with the ends of her hair in panic.

Natsu looked at her blankly before nodding, "Oh, so he's your friend? Sorry 'bout that earlier lil' guy."

Lucy shook her head gently, "It's okay. Hey Plue," she reached into the water, the little white fish immediately snuggling against her hand. Happy soon joining in on the fun.

"So," Natsu drawled out as he watched the three interact with one another, "What is he?"

"He's a dogfish."

The two looked at her in silence before Natsu burst out laughing. Chuckling, he shook his head as he gave her an amused look, "You know, we really got to get your eyes checked Luce, cause that can not be a fish."

"Hey! Plue is a fish!" Lucy pouted though now playful as her eyes seemed to get brighter. Cheeks blushing and heart racing a little more.

"Sure Luce."

….

Levy had been anxiously swimming in circles at their little hangout area. Erza had already passed by three times and was already getting suspicious of the blonde's whereabouts. It was already past super time and Levy couldn't help but panic.

"Oh stupid, stupid, stupid," she muttered as she chewed on her lips anxiously, "I shouldn't have let her go. Oh god, what have I don-"

Levy twirled around as she heard the front entrance open and was met with the view of a perky blonde along with an energetic fish.

"Oh, gracious Poseidon!" Levy was quick to suffocate the blonde in a hug before pulling back to stare at the girl with worry, "Where in the sea where you! Do you know how much you made me panic? And not to forget, Erza is going to be trying to figure out where you went in the morning!"

"Oh, sorry." Lucy giggled as her cheeks were flushed a little which immediately caught the orange-scaled mermaid's attention.

She narrowed her eyes before gasping, grinning madly, "Oh my gosh, Lu-chan! Is there a guy?"

Lucy only laughed, awkwardly scathing the back of her neck as she sent Plue a nervous look, "Maybe."

"Oh~," Levy couldn't help but coo as she gave her friend a look, "No wonder you were out for so long." She swirled around in excitement, staring at her nervous friend. "Spill!"

"O-Okay… But maybe you should sit down first."

Levy squinted in suspicion but decided to appease her friend anyway and took a seat. Plue immediately went up to her and cuddled her lap.

"Well aren't you being more affectionate than usual," Levy laughed a little and Lucy joined her as she let out a nervous giggle, sharing a glance with Plue.

"Yea," she drawled out as Levy turned her attention to her friend.

"Ok, so before you say anything, I'd like to say a couple of good things about him!" Lucy squeaked out quickly.

Levy laughed, "Oh relax Lucy. He can't be that bad if you out of all people like him."

"Y-yea," Lucy smiled, still nervous, as she nodded, "Yea. He isn't so bad. He's really sweet and actually really funny. And it's just that, I have so much fun with him even though I hardly know him and-"

The blue-haired mermaid let out a laugh, "Wow, you must really like him then!"

The blonde girl nodded, talking in a soft voice, "Yea, I really do. But-" she raised her voice a little, looking at Levy with nervous eyes, "I really want you to approve of him too…"

The girl only scoffed, petting Plue as she shook her head, "Of course I'd like him! If you like him very much then of course I'd approve of the man who makes my friend happy."

Lucy smiled, though it quickly was replaced by a stiffer one with Levy's next question.

"So, who is he?"

Lucy looked towards Plue who gave a little bob and took in a shaky breath. Deciding that she had to get it over with eventually.

Lucy bit her bottom lip as she smiled, looking at Levy with bright eyes, "I met a... human man."

The only sounds coming from the house were the sounds of panicked screaming and splashing as the blue-haired mermaid proceeded to blackout.

Note: Fun fact, mermaids are actually my favorite mythical creature. So it was about time I wrote a mermaid Nalu story. Also sorry I posted this a couple of hours late. While I was writing it, I got more inspired and kept adding things to the point it got so long that I wouldn't be able to refine it and make it better unless I posted it a couple of hours later. I wasn't expecting this to be so long but I feel good about this one and may even end up writing a sequel in the future (though not in this series). (Also sorry that there isn't a lot of Nalu, now that I'm editing it, there's a lot more exposition and world building than anything.)
