Prompt: Day 6—Fearless
Summary: Whenever he was by her side, she felt like she could take on the whole world.
Note: Post Tartarus-Arc
Fears
Lucy was afraid of many things. Being raised practically caged up at home all the time never really let her adventure out in the world. She only heard of the horrors of the world from the safe comfort of her bed, the covers being her protection against the horror. Usually peeking out from the covers out into the dark windows, fear gnawing at her. Or if the tree branches scratching her window would be too much, she'd search for comfort within her parents embrace. No longer being able to reach her.
She first met true fear when her mother died. Her whole world suddenly turned upside down and many nights that led to tearful nights. The home that had usually been her comfort against her fears suddenly was no longer warm and only heightened them.
Though her fears had never ceased the adventure within it and the growing desire to explore the world. The feeling only got stronger as she grew older and yearned for joining Fairy Tail to be a great wizard just like her mother was. Hence her daring decision to escape from her home. Although she would miss reminiscing of her mother among the familiar halls, she could feel her fears starting to eat away at her. And she just needed to get away from it all.
She wanted a new chapter and had started it when she had met him. She could still remember the excitement she felt when she had first walked into the guild as it broke out into one of their many infamous fights. For a long time, she had felt warmth coming back into her life and her fear controlling her less. She had been so terrified when it was almost taken away from her again before it even began that she couldn't help but sob her eyes out after the fire-mage caught her from the tower. The guilt of it all hitting her. Though thanks to him and the whole guild, she was able to pick herself back up. Even facing the fear she had of her father to confront him and take back her life.
When they had been riding back home after, she couldn't help but grin at her bickering team mates. She had never felt so free in a long time and before she knew it, as the years passed, they had become her support. Especially the pink-haired fire mage.
Somehow he knew what to say or do, even if he was a dense idiot most of the time. The fear that she had built as a child melted away as she grew more confident in herself and her abilities.
When she had lost everyone, and him, for a whole year, she had truly felt lost all over again. Her fears once again creeped back into her mind and heart as she tried to face the world again. It hadn't been easy at first, getting used to being all alone again. She took a couple of weeks to mourn by herself, over her dear friend, her family, and the annoying duo who seemed to fill her life with excitement.
Though she kept her hope, thoughts of meeting with her family again being the only things keeping back the negative and scary thoughts for a while. They'd come back whenever she wasn't busy being a workaholic or working on improving her magical capabilities but she held onto her hope. Even as a year had passed, she still held onto the small wish that everyone would meet again. Even if they wouldn't form the guild anymore, something she dreaded as she continued to mark her map, she would be grateful to be able to see them one more time.
Yet somehow, just like he always did, when she had first seen him in a year as he melted the studio, her heart felt a little at ease. And even if she had been scared when they ventured out on their journey to rebuild the guild, with him by her side, the fears she had seemed to slowly diminish away in the after thoughts of her mind. She was still afraid, but she felt like she could take on the whole world as long as he was by her side.
Note: Again, another short one-shot. Didn't expect to be so busy today so had to make it shorter than usual. (Also this feels more like a character study so I'm not that happy with the outcome.) I may end up doing an extra day so if anyone has any ideas on what they'd like me to write, feel free to suggest something.
