Prompt: Day 7—Adventure

Summary: It was always an endless adventure for them, no matter how mundane the task.

Note: Well this is the end! (Well almost, just got one more extra chapter after this.) Thank you to everyone for reading and really big thank you to rao hyuga 18 (and Amanny) for the sweet comments, they always make my day first thing in the morning.

Unexpected Turns

It wasn't supposed to go like this.

"Oh come on! This was supposed to be easy!" Lucy yelped as she skirted along the roads of the parks, hardly believing she was really doing this. Only screaming as she suddenly took a sharp left turn and almost smacked straight into a pedestrian.

"Oh yea, I'm fired up!" She could hear Natsu screaming from above the rooftops and cursed herself for taking on this job in the first place.

It had only been a couple hours previous when Lucy had been job hunting once again. It was getting dangerously close to the time to pay her rent and she may have splurged a bit much on some new books. Though in her defense, she needed something to take her out of reality for a while due to the stunt Natsu and Happy pulled on her a couple of days ago. She, in fact, didn't appreciate getting scared and falling into the pool, much less to the duo's immense amusement. Luckily for her, she was only a few hundred jewels short and wouldn't need to take on a really difficult or long mission to be able to make enough to pay her rent.

She eyed the request board with a finger to her chin, Plue, who she had summoned on her walk to the guild, stood next to her copying her. Her nose crinkled in distaste when she briefly skimmed a mission that requested a 'hot bombshell' mage to work at some restaurant. If she had been desperate she probably would have taken it, not one to be shy with her own looks, but she was thankful she wasn't. The guild usually helped out at Yajima's restaurant and somehow she always got stuck in some kind of provocative bunny suit. She had a feeling that this would be the same situation so quickly diminished the request as soon as she saw it and skimmed on to the other ones.

She read a couple of others before her eyes landed on one that had her eyes sparkling. Quickly grabbing it off the board, she skipped to the table where Natsu was sitting, Plue skipping along with her before he sauntered off to where Happy was trying to woo Charles.

When Natsu heard her approaching, he looked up as he grinned, gulping down his food, "You found a request Luce?"

"Yup!" She popped the 'p' as she slipped the paper towards him, somehow already knowing what his response would be.

"Oh man," he pouted, crossing his arms, "But this is so boring! There's no fighting!"

Lucy only tsked as she placed her hands on her waist, "Too bad! It's my turn to pick the mission, plus Happy isn't going with us so we might as well go with an easier one."

The fire mage only pouted but agreed on the job as he sullenly ate the rest of his fire chicken. It was only five minutes later when Gray crashed into him that a brawl broke out and his mood was elevated and he was walking beside her jovially. The town that the request had been only a couple of hours to walk to and Lucy, deciding to give the fire-mage some sympathy, decided that they could walk.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when they reached their destination to a small little potion and trinket shop for wizards. Though once they walked through those wooden doors, their fate seemed to be sealed for them.

Which currently brought them to their current situation.

"Sorry!" she whipped her head behind her as she gave the startled man she almost ran over a nervous smile before looking forward. Screaming as she ducked before she could get hit by a store's hanging sign before being pulled down another alleyway.

It was a simple task really. The elderly shop lady had lost her beloved pooch and wanted them to retrieve her dog as she had gotten too old to do it herself. When getting the details on the mission Lucy had to scold the pink-haired boy whenever he touched some of the things, the lady only laughing it off before showing pictures of her dog. It couldn't be bigger than Lucy's foot and she and the elderly woman took a couple of minutes (though in Natsu's exaggerated opinion, a couple of hours) to awe at pictures. However, what failed to be mentioned was that the dog had accidentally eaten a mix of unknown potions and had gotten a boost an insane amount of strength and speed. Hence making the reason the woman wasn't able to catch her old dog make much more sense to Lucy as she held onto the leash as tight as she could.

They had found the dog lazing around a park but when trying to retrieve the dog, were in for a sudden surprise as Lucy was all but pulled when it woke up from the motion of putting the lease on. Thankfully before her feet could rip off, Natsu had thrown a barrel for her to stand on hence her current situation. How she was frankly still alive was a mystery to herself but she could only be grateful as they made another right, heading towards an exit.

"Natsu! He's heading back to the park!"

"Got it!" Lucy looked up as she saw her partner fly himself up with a burst of fire before disappearing past the buildings. She reigned onto the leash as they broke out from the alley and started to head towards a tree. She pulled on the leash, not stopping the superpowered dog but halting its movements enough as a huge shadow loomed over it.

Lucy's eyes widened as she looked up.

"Fire dragon's-," when she saw the similar motion of him pulling his arm back she could only choke on her spit, not even caring that a bug hit her face.

"Oh my god- NATSU DON'T YOU DARE-"

"IRON FIST!"

Lucy and the dog both squealed as there was a blast of heat as the fire-mage fell, creating a large hole. The pooch tried to stop but rolled into the small pitfall and Lucy screeched as she was almost pulled in, closing her eyes only to open them when warm arms held her up.

She looked up to a grinning male as he jumped back a couple of feet away from the large hole. When he put her down, she couldn't help but blush a little before thanking him.

"No probs Luce!" He grinned before it turned mischievous, "But can't believe you would ever go dog surfing."

Lucy only scowled as the male laughed as he talked about her facial expressions, almost wanting to shove him into the hole as well but held herself back. The dog had ended up winded and passed out and she really didn't want to wake it up to deal with that circus performance again.

"Come on, let's just get this over with."

When they returned the dog to the elder lady, she had given them complimentary cookies as apologies for forgetting to mention all the details. Natsu had quickly forgotten about the whole ordeal as he shoved his face and Lucy only gave him the eye as she thanked the elderly woman before they headed off. Just happy that they had received the award money.

Before she could even happily skip her way home, the both of them were confronted with knocked-over shop boxes and shop fronts not looking best for wear. Lucy could only cry silently as they had to give up some of the money for damages, most of which went towards the huge hole that Natsu created.

She sulked all the way to the guild as Natsu only munched on the cookies before leaving to choose another job they could take for tomorrow.

"Hey Luce, think this got anything interesting?"

Lucy took a look at the flyer in confusion. It was a simple job request about searching for a missing heirloom. When she questioned Natsu about it, his eyes seemed to sparkle.

"Think it's actually an adventure for secret missing treasure?"

She blinked for a couple of seconds before letting out a laugh, the mood instantly cheered up as she nodded. The two made up conspiracies of the secret behind the request as they both talked all through the evening.

Note: Oh my god, can't believe that this is the end. Sorry if this is a little nonsensical but I couldn't think of anything else that would turn a boring day into an exciting one. I was going to make Lucy roll on a skateboard (or something similar) but I'm pretty sure they don't exist in FT so I had to improvise with something that wouldn't cause a lot of heat friction, hence the barrel. As always, have a great night/day!
