The Kingdoms are what remains after the fall of the last great empire, what caused the fall of the great empire is unknown, the reason why no one recorded it is that they were too busy trying to survive to bother writing it down.
The kingdoms are surrounded by a wall the old wall or first wall, and yes it is just that, the first wall to remain to stand, it's what protected the people from the Grimm.
As such every wall that surrounds the kingdom after the first wall is the marker of where the last expansion of the kingdom stopped.
It's simply how far the kingdom was able to get before it was too dangerous to go any further.
So to put it simply the moment the kingdom manages to take more territory and build another wall the last wall's name will change a proper name, one that will not be changed no matter what.
The kingdoms are a random mix of highly advanced technology that survived the fall of the empire, that has either been restored or repurposed because people forgot what the thing they found was originally used for.
So it's not uncommon to see a person using a holographic device standing next to a person that has never seen an electronic device.
The kingdoms were once ruled by nobles, people who were the ones responsible for keeping the kingdoms safe during the dark age when humanity was nearly wiped out by the Grimm.
Now, most of those families are gone either because they died in battle, political assassinations, or they fell from power because of one reason or another.
Those that remain are known as the council, powerful families that have a hand in every kingdom.
Yet even they are starting to lose their grip on the world as things change more and more as time passes.
Within every kingdom, there exists a genetic anomaly that makes humans take animal characteristics and as such, those that are affected by this taint are known as Fanus and are shunned by the untainted.
Sixty years ago several fallen families gathers and gave those affected by the taint some land so that they could live without fear for their lives.
While many protested giving these beings so much, these worries soon calmed when word began to spread that it was better to send the taint of the Fanus away than let it spread amongst the untainted population.
it has only recently been revealed that several kingdoms have begun to give Human rights to these beings, however, it was only after the great war when every kingdom nearly fell so to infighting- the Grimm or another kingdom that wanted to overthrow its neighbor.
Please remember that the Fanus kingdom was established sixty years ago, so there is a possibility that the Kingdom of the Fanus might have had some influence in their people suddenly gaining Human rights.
The kingdom's power sources vary greatly from petroleum fule - solar energy - dust - wind and a few dams, however, due to the constant Grimm attacks- sabotages committed by terrorists, and lack of raw materials, keeping the generators is incredibly difficult and in rare occasions impossible.
