Lucifer let go of a breath he didn't know he had been holding, as he pulled into a car space close to the camp, where Trixie had been spending most of her summer. Saying goodbye to the ones he loved had taken a piece of him. Between the doctor, without whom he never would have been ready to have a family; Daniel, who had turned into a good friend; Ms. Lopez, who he considered a true inspiration; Amenadiel, his favorite brother and Mazikeen, who he owed so much to, it was hard to imagine that he would ever leave them all behind by choice. And he wasn't even done bidding farewell yet. Two of his favorite ladies were still on his list and the time had come to say goodbye to the smaller one among the two.

Slightly reluctant and yet determined at the same time, he got out of his corvette and walked over to the camp. It wasn't hard to spot the girl that he had come to care about so deeply even from a distance. She was currently talking to some other girls that he absentmindedly recognized as her friends from school – those girls had once forced him to spend an entire evening watching Barbie films with them, before they used him as their canvas to draw on. And as much as he had protested against that that day, he was now feeling an ache inside of his chest at the thought that it might have been the last time that the urchin had forced him to do something he ended up liking – even if he would never admit that aloud in her presence.

Trixie finally noticed him when he was about fifty yards away from the camp and he could see the confusion flickering over her face, before she excused herself from the group to make her way over to him.

"Lucifer… what are you doing here?" she asked, still a little bit confused, especially upon noticing the sadness in his eyes, "Is everything alright? Did something happen?"

"No… not yet, anyway," he replied awfully vague, but before she could ask any more questions, he pulled out a chocolate cake from behind his back and offered it to her in a Lucifer-like manner; meaning he put out his hand with the boxed chocolate cake resting on his open palm as if he was some kind of chef that was presenting his five star meal to his customers.

A smile that immediately reminded him of Chloe's formed on her face and desire flickered in her eyes, as she accepted it and went ahead to inspect it more closely, only to realize that it wasn't a run-of-the-mill chocolate cake from the grocery store.

"A few weeks back I promised to make you that extra creamy chocolate cake you loved so much and…" A lot of things had happened since. "Well, I finally got around to it." Lucifer explained, when Trixie raised her eyebrow questioningly.

"Okay…" she agreed, still not entirely sure what to make of this, but nonetheless very willing to accept the gesture and the cake, "That's really sweet of you, Lucifer."

Trixie flashed him another smile, before an uncomfortable silence settled between them. And that was new to the both of them, as conversation usually flowed easily and was always filled with teasing and lots of laughter. But neither of them were at the top of their game today; not Trixie, who was reminded of her dad by every little thing today and certainly not Lucifer, who had spent the entire day saying goodbye to the people he loved most.

"Unless there isn't something else… I have to get back now, but see you at home tomorrow?"

His face twisted painfully at her words and it didn't go unnoticed by the urchin. Lucifer opened his mouth and closed it again twice, without having said a single word. There was obviously something he wanted to get off his chest, but struggled to actually get out.

"I… Trixie," He trailed off and sighed heavily, because this was proving to be a lot harder than he thought it would be. "I hope that you know that our friendship means a lot to me," he stated finally, "I know I have an odd way of showing it sometimes, but it does. You do… mean a lot to me."

The girl raised her eyebrow in suspicion again, before her features softened. Her instincts were telling her that there was more going on than he let on, but she couldn't deny the happiness his words brought her, as it kind of was the first time he was admitting those feelings to her. Funnily enough, after the day she had had, it was exactly what she had needed to hear – even if, deep down, she had always known that she had him wrapped around her little finger.

"I do know that and I love you too, dummy." She replied finally, "But you are acting weird. Something is going on, so spit it out."

Lucifer's face fell at how good the urchin seemed to be able to read him, before a light chuckle escaped his lips.

"You really are your mother's daughter, eh? Ever the detective," he replied jokingly, because he really should have known that the girl would easily figure out that he wasn't just here to be here. But when her piercing eyes met his, he cleared his throat and straightened his posture – it was just another thing she had learned from her mother. "Trix… you were so mad at me the last time that I left without saying goodbye and-"

"Wait, wait, what do you mean the last time? Are you leaving again?" Trixie interrupted him, feeling anger flare up inside of her chest.

She had already lost her father, she couldn't also lose Lucifer too. Because as deeply as her father's death still hurt her and would always hurt her, Lucifer had always been there to cheer her up. And for the first time ever, her mom and Lucifer seemed to be able to make things work and it was so good to see both of them happy after all they had been through. And the occasional game night she got out of it wasn't completely bad either – quite the contrary actually.

"Lucifer," the urchin said determinedly, raising her finger at him, "If you are planning on leaving and hurting my mom again, I am going to personally hunt you down and make you pay."

He chuckled, but when his eyes found hers, the grin on his face was immediately washed away, as he no longer had any doubt in the earnestness behind her words. Trixie was not only her mother's daughter, she had also been personally trained by Maze – the only demon he would assess as strong enough to actually have a chance against him.

"You have to believe me, Trixie. I am never going to leave by choice," he insisted then with a defiant nod.

Trixie eyed him curiously for a few moments, because as much as she wanted to believe his words, she had a feeling that it wasn't the whole story. Because Lucifer might not lie, but he certainly was a master in bluffing and leaving out bits of the truth.

"Okay," she said finally, choosing to accept his answer. At least for now. "Thank you for the cake, I guess."

"It's been my pleasure," he replied, a genuine smile gracing his features.

The girl nodded with a small smile on her lips and turned around, ready to head back to the camp now. But after having taken a few steps in the direction of her friends, she turned on her heels and nearly ran into his arms – just like she used to do. Lucifer was momentarily caught off guard by her enthusiastic hug, but soon wrapped his strong arms around the girl.

He used to shy away from these affectionate hugs of hers, because he simply wasn't used to the warm, fuzzy feeling they left in his chest and he didn't really consider himself worthy of that much love and friendship, especially coming from such a little human. But now, a surprisingly big part of him was actually going to miss her hugs and their game nights… and quite simply, just her.

Lucifer pressed a soft kiss on her dark hair. He used to detest little humans like her and considered them terrible taxing burdens, but after years of being loved by the urchin, even he could no longer deny that there was a certain charm to children. At least to some. And the truth was, without her in his life, he never would have been able to be the kind of dad to Rory that he so desperately wanted to be. He smiled, sadly this time. The truth was that Trixie had simply been good to him.

AN: One of the few things I didn't like about season 6 was that it felt so forced that Trixie was at summer camp, almost like they needed some kind of a reasonable explanation to send her off and make the story work. I would have loved to see more of the dynamic between Chloe, Lucifer and Trixie, as I believe that it plays enourmously into Lucifer's growth over the years. And I hated that we didn't get to see Lucifer say goodbye to Trixie, especially after she was so angry at him when he left without saying goodbye before! Anyway... this was my attempt to sort of add that missing scene to my headcanon. I hope you liked it!
