Gus, of course, was very excited to look at himself in all the mirrors, not just the one they came for. His fascination with Oracle magic was endearing, and when he found a mirror with a particular effect he would drag one of his friends over who he felt would best love what the mirror reflected back. Willow told Hunter that she felt a bit bad since when they went to a carnival last, they were unable to go through the House of Mirrors there due to them being shrunk by a demon named 'Tibbles'. The guy sounded like a jerk.
"HUNTER! MATT!" Gus suddenly grabbed his arm and yanked him away from Willow. If Hunter wanted, he knew he could just knock Gus away from him. But, he only snorted as the younger dragged him over to a mirror and forced him in front of it with Matt. " Look!" Gus said excitedly. Hunter quirked his brow at Gus' reflection before his own...no scar on his face. Hunter frowned slightly as he looked over himself, he was wearing a hoodie in this one, his hair was well kept, his eye-bangs were missing. What, was this a 'healthy-you' reflection? Hunter looked to Gus again.
"What am I seeing exactly?" He inquired.
"Look at your ears!" Gus put his hands up to his own ears, smiling big as he looked back to his reflection. Hunter turned his head back, noticing...human ears?
"Whoa..weird." Hunter turned his head as he looked over his human reflection, something deep inside him feeling like it shifted uncomfortably. He looked at Gus and Matt's reflections, seeing their human forms were not as...different as his. Really it was just their clothing and ears that made any real change. Hunter thinned his lips before noticing Willow coming up behind him to peer over his shoulder at the mirror. Her human form was like the other two, a change of clothes and ears, that's it. He couldn't help but feel that something was shifting more.
" Your eyes are different in reflection…" Willow said in a hushed voice, resting her arms across the back of his shoulders. Hunter quirked his brow, looking back up and noticing that what should be magenta eyes were now...blue?
"Makes sense. My eye color is rare even for a witch. Humans might not have genes to allow them to be my red." He scratched the side of his cheek absentmindedly. Suddenly, he snorted, watching as Luz crabbed walked into the frame of the mirror with her back turned from it before dramatically turning around. She froze as her jaw opened in awe, moving up to the mirror to look herself over. "Hu… what do you know?" Hunter commented.
"Wooow!" Luz held her hands up to her ears, watching as her reflection did the same to its pointed ones. " You know, I thought that if I was a witch I'd look a bit more...different." Amity moved next to her, taking her hand with a smile as she looked to her own reflection.
" Well, it's still you after all." She commented, smiling back to Luz. The human smiled at her girlfriend, moving to lean against her as the two blushed.
"HURK!" Matt made a loud gag noise as he turned from the mirror. " You couples need to stop being so mushy!"
"Don't be jealous, Matt!" Luz laughed, soon following as she kept hold of Amity's hand, Gus following after the others as well.
"The future mirror is just around the corner! Come on!" Gus moved to the front of the pack, who all soon disappeared around a corner, leaving Hunter and Willow behind.
"...are you doing ok?" Willow looked up to her blonde companion, moving to his side proper to take hold of his arm again. Hunter smiled down to her, though he knew she could catch on that he was...not comfortable.
"Y-yeah I am...fine." Hunter thinned his lips as he looked back at his human counterpart. " A lot of these mirrors are...weird to think about. Glimpses into other realities that could be existing or not…" He frowned, swallowing as he was unable to stop himself from asking, " ...have you noticed that every one I stand in front of I am missing my cheek scar?"
"...I did." Willow leaned into his side, hugging his arm tight against her as she looked at the reflections. She was glad that the house of Mirrors didn't draw a crowd, they had barely seen anyone else in the halls, so they could talk freely, at least. "... You never did tell me how you got it." She whispered, looking up to Hunter's reflection. Hunter swallowed, he knew he didn't have to tell her but…
"...It was years ago. I think I was eleven or twelve?" he scratched his cheek as he recalled. " Uncle was having a hard time with his...curse that day. He didn't realize I had snuck into the room he was in and when it overtook him…" Hunter gave a light shrug as Willow's eyes widened.
"He struck you?" She asked, trying to hide the anger in the voice.
"I-I mean...not on purpose." Hunter looked back to her, rubbing his neck. " It was my own fault, really. I knew I shouldn't have snuck in. It's not like he did it on...purpose…" Hunter's hand went to a scar on his side, only a few months old. Willow frowned, leaning against him as she pressed her head into his shoulder, looking back to the reflections through the side of her eye. They stood in silence for a while as they just stared at their human reflections, until Hunter thinned his lips again."...is-is it bad that I don't want to stand in front of the future mirror?"
"Not at all." Willow looked back up at him. " You don't have to if you don't want to, you know."
"I-I know…" Hunter looked at his reflection's shoes. " I never even thought about the future too much, you know? But, I did have the thought that occurred to me when we were heading inside… What if I don't have a reflection?" Willow frowned deeply at this, moving to force Hunter to face her properly as she reached up and cupped his face in her hands.
"Hunter, I promise to you here and now that you will have a reflection. Whether you see it or not will be up to you...but, I will not let anything happen to you that will warrant that you will not have one." Willow stared deep into his eyes. Hunter flicked his ears around her fingers, reaching up to take one of her hands in his as he smiled down at her. He knew she couldn't promise that, but he also knew Willow would fight Titan himself if it meant protecting those she loved.
" Have I told you that you are the most wonderful witch?" Hunter moved to press his head into hers, closing his eyes as she smiled and pressed back.
"I think you mentioned that a few times, yes." Willow replied, moving to give him a quick peek on the lips before taking his hands. " Should we catch up with the others?" Hunter nodded, but wrapped his arms around Willow's waist to pull her into him. He felt his smile growing as he held her, she gave a giggle as she moved her hands to his shoulders. "This isn't catching up, you know."
"Hmmm...They can miss us for a few more minutes." Hunter said, moving to press his lips against hers again. He felt her smile into him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders to deepen the kiss. They stayed together for a long moment, before the need for breath separated them, both of their cheeks a deepening crimson. He rested his forehead against hers once more, sighing in content as he felt his ears wiggling around. Willow gave another giggle as she moved to take Hunter's hands, turning to lead him deeper into the house of mirrors.
The two found Amity and Luz standing outside the room that led to the future-mirror. Willow greeted the two with a wave and smile before looking into the room to see Gus and Matt talking as they stood in front of the mirror. Luckily the mirror seemed to only reflect what was straight in front of it, so the four of them didn't have to risk seeing what they didn't want to see.
"Are you two not going to go look?" Willow inquired, looking back to Luz and Amity.
"That's...what we are trying to decide." Amity shrugged, rubbing her arm as she looked back into the room. " The idea of seeing our future selves is...heavy." Hunter gave a nod in agreement, thinning his lips as he glanced into the room.
" Very much an intimidating thought…" He muttered.
" On the one hand...it could answer some questions I have." Luz started, motioning with her hands. " On the other hand, are they questions I want answered?" she hummed in thought as she looked her hands over.
" There was also the fact that before you guys came, just as we arrived…" Amity looked over in the direction of the exit. " Someone left the room crying with their friends. Apparently...they didn't have a reflection?" Amity shivered. Hunter frowned more as he squeezed Willow's hand without realizing. She squeezed back, looking up at him before looking at Luz and Amity.
" Well, no one says we have to go look. I am having fun with the other mirrors!" Willow smiled as she leaned against Hunter. He smiled down at her before looking back into the room. Gus and Matt were in a deep talk, it seemed, but neither of them appeared to be upset.
"I think I am good…" Luz said, before looking at Amity. " I mean… I know Oracle Magic is meant to help with the future, but I think I am ok with just living without knowing what I will look like in ten years." Amity gave a nod and smile, taking Luz's hand.
"Me too. I think I'd like some fresh air if that is ok." Amity said, Luz giving a nod before looking at Hunter and Willow.
" We will wait for everyone outside."
"Sounds good." Hunter gave a small wave as the two parted to leave The House of Mirrors. He took the opportunity, now that Luz was not around to squeal over them, to wrap his arm around Willow's shoulders. She smiled, turning slightly to rest her head against his shoulder and close her eyes.
"...Did you want to see your future reflection?" Hunter asked, looking down at her. She opened one of her eyes to look up at him with a small smile.
"Well, I will admit I am curious." Willow glanced into the room, seeing Gus and Matt seeming to be wrapping up their conversation. " But, I am ok." She smiled back up to Hunter.
"Well uh…" Hunter scratched his cheek. " I was thinking maybe...we go in together? I-I don't really want to see my reflection but...I just want to know if I'd…" He stopped himself, feeling his cheeks burning slightly. Willow moved, wrapping her arms around his waist as she smiled up at him.
" How about you close your eyes, I will lead you in and I can confirm if you have one or not?" Willow asked up at him. Hunter thought it over, before he looked at her and gave a nod. Just as they agreed Gus and Matt exited the room, the two looking deep in thought, barely even acknowledging the other teens. " Are you two ok?" Willow asked as they passed, making the two pause and turn, the both of them seeming surprised to see Hunter and Willow, as if they had forgotten they were there.
"O-oh, yeah...it just gave us a lot...to think about." Gus looked back to the mirror inside the room.
"Did you have the beard you wanted?" Hunter asked, trying to lighten the mood.
"...Yes. Yes I did." Gus rubbed his chin with a smile, almost forgetting the reason they came. Matt gave a small laugh, turning to head to the exit.
"We will catch up in a few minutes, Gus. Luz and Amity are waiting outside now." Willow said, watching as Gus nodded and turned to follow Matt. Left alone again, Willow moved to take Hunter's hands. " Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Y-yeah...I would feel a lot better knowing I have a reflection." Hunter swallowed, he felt a weird, churning sickness in his stomach. At least it wasn't his bile-sac. Willow gave a gentle smile and nod before taking his arm to lead Hunter into the room. Hunter closed his eyes tight, carefully stepping. It felt like they walked a mile before Willow brought him to a stop.
She had her back facing the mirror, feeling the same nerves as Hunter, but trying to brave it through. 'Please, let him have a reflection..' She thought, her emotions screaming. It never occurred to her as well having no reflection was an option. She wasn't sure what she would do if she turned and only saw one of them. Willow closed her eyes before turning semi slowly, then forced her eyes open. She covered her mouth with her hand in surprise, staring wide eye at what she saw, before lowering it.
"...You have a reflection, Hunter." Willow sighed in relief.
Hunter felt a great weight lift off him, though he still refused to open his eyes. He was content with just leaning against Willow with a sigh and a small smile. He felt her press up against him, her arms wrapping around him again. He was half tempted to look at the reflections just to see her, but kept his eyes closed.
Willow, for her part, had a big smile on her face as she squeezed her arms around Hunter. She almost had tears in her eyes as she looked over the reflections, memorizing the details of the two adults in front of her. It made her feel so relieved, so much more than she had thought. Hunter had a reflection, and she did too. They both were going to be just perfectly fine…
" I think I am good now...want to head out?" Willow asked up at Hunter, who nodded, eyes still closed. She took his hands again, this time leading him away from the mirror. After his back was turned to the mirror, he opened his eyes and glanced over to Willow, noticing the smile she carried and the blush she had on her cheeks. Maybe his future self was really handsome? He half wished he did take a peek at hers. But either way as he looked back ahead, Willow couldn't help but keep a big smile on her face as she pondered if she should tell him…
Their future reflections were wearing the same wedding bands.
