A/N: Well this is a late chapter. Sorry about that. Been super busy and just didn't have the time to edit and post. But here it is, the long-awaited part 2, it'll give you more info and we get to see a little bit of what's going on. As I mentioned last chapter, this is mostly going to be in Sarah or Ian Malcom's POV, or the POV of Una's mummy Rela the Raptor. Hope that answers some questions I got last time. As always don't forget to leave a review or drop a fav or a follow and I'll see you guys next week!
Chapter 7 – The Sickly Sixes part 2
After what happed on Isla Nublar with the fall of Jurassic Park, Ian Malcolm had sworn off dinosaurs and Ingen and everything else to do with them.
Ingen had not liked him talking about what happened, trying to make them accountable for the lives of many who had been lost on that island on that night. But they had shut him down and shut him up. No one believe his stories, they destroyed his credibility, he lost his tenure and his job with the university.
And now he was on Isla Sorna where the dinosaurs were running wild and free trying to rescue his girlfriend Sarah who had come, to this island, alone. Of her own free will.
Ian was certain she had been eaten by now, but he was going to hold out a little hope that she was still alive and he could find her.
Sarah was supposed to come with a team. Eddie Carr was in charge of all the gear, Nick Van Owen was there to document, Sarah was there as the animal behaviouralist, and Hammond wanted Malcolm there basically because he was a sadist that wanted to torture him.
He was very clear that he wouldn't have gone, this was a major hell fucking no, but he had to go. He had to go because Hammond had gotten Sarah to agree, and then let her go to that island by herself.
So, though he didn't want to, though he wanted to be back in San Diego where it was safe, Ian Malcolm with Eddie and Nick made their way with all their gear to Isla Sorna.
Eddie and Nick were still on the original plan, but Ian was going because he knew better. This was a goddamn rescue.
They were tracking Sarah through the satellite phone that Eddie had given her. They had left their trailers behind to hike through the jungle. Ian didn't have to do this last time, Grant had been the one who had got stuck on the tour and had to hike his way back while trying to keep two children safe.
He figured he'd have an easier time of it because he didn't have kids to worry about, just full-grown adults who didn't understand the danger they were in.
God, here's hoping he didn't have to run, cause he had a terrible limp still from the injury he sustained from the T-Rex attack on the original island.
And yet, they had managed to find Sarah's bag, abandoned and torn up, the satellite phone inside it. Turned on but clearly ignored. Something had to have happened, something must have attacked her.
He needed to find her.
"Sarah!" Ian cried, even though he knew that was stupid and a good way to attract predators
"Sarah Harding!" Nick cried, following up with his own screams.
"How many Sarahs do you think are on this island?" Ian asked sarcastically before shouting his girlfriend's name again.
They called a few more times before the bushes all around them began to rustle. Ian could feel the ground shaking beneath his feet which meant something big was coming towards them. Ian was immediately concerned but all three of them just stayed where they were, crouched down by the river side with Sarah's bag in Ian's hands, a camera's in Nick, and a tranq gun in Eddie's.
But it wasn't a predator, it was a herd of Stegosauruses all adults, and what seemed to be one infant. Ian hadn't seen the Stegosauruses on the original tour, but after nearly being eaten the wow factor was gone now.
Eddie and Nick, however, were first timers. And they were giving all the standard responses. The ohhs, the ahhs and the wooows.
"This… this is magnificent," Eddie said and Ian rolled his eyes.
"Yea. Ooh, ah, that's how it starts but then later there's the running and the screaming."
Nick was no longer listening to them. He had his camera up and he was frantically scrambling to get pictures of the herd. He climbed up onto a felled tree to get a better vantage point and because he did that they found Sarah because she was doing the same thing.
She was just a little higher up on that felled tree.
But Nick was so engrossed in what he was taking pictures of that he missed her entirely.
"Hey Nick!" she cried and he practically fell over in surprise. Once he realized it was just her, he just laughed.
"I guess you got the jump on us there, huh?"
"Yeah," she said hopping down and off the tree which was exactly when she realized that Ian was there. "Wow, Ian, I never thought in a million years that Hammond would get you to come here." She purposely ignored the angry glare on her face. "Hey Eddie, do you have a granola bar or something, I'm starving."
She approached where Ian was standing with Eddie, completely determined to try to talk to him like she hadn't brought him to the worst place in the world.
"Did you see those animals? A family group, a pair-bond and a sub-adult, long after the juvenile was nest bound. Every egg clutch I've seen has shells crushed and trampled. Proving that hatchlings stay in the birth environment for extended periods of time. That's conclusive. I can put that controversy to rest if I get a shot of the nest."
Sarah was like that. She could go on forever on a subject she was passionate about. Ian usually loved that about her.
He just didn't like it right now.
He held up the backpack that belonged to her and asked: "Have you been attacked?"
Sarah looked at it for a second then turned back to him, where she then looked at him very carefully. Like she had just realized that he was angry.
"No, that's my lucky pack. That's how it always looks."
"Okay… Sarah…"
But she must have been able to tell that he was going to tell her to leave, because she walked away from him and to Nick asking about his camera and what kind it was and if she could borrow it.
Why he said yes was beyond Ian
He followed after her as she trudged through the water with Nick's camera. He tried to talk sense into her, but it was hard when she was saying things like I didn't tell you Hammond called because you would have stopped me and I know how the dinosaurs survived without lysine.
That stupid Lysine contingency should have wiped the dinosaurs out once there weren't people to supplement it into their diet. Ian didn't want to know how they survived but Sarah told him anyway.
If you look at the diets of the herbivories that are thriving, they're eat mostly agama beans, soy, plants rich in lysine. And the carnivores, well the eat the herbivores so that's why they're surviving too.
But then they got closer to the stegosauruses and she told them to wait while she snuck up to take a picture.
She was, of course, way too close. She got her picture, paused and then just had to pet the little baby. Jesus, it was like she was trying to get herself killed. Like, just take the pictures and go.
"She has to touch it? She can't not touch it?" Ian asked mostly himself because Nick and Eddie were just hiding behind a smaller log watching all of this go down.
Sarah went to take another picture and she must have been on the last of the roll because as soon as she took that picture the camera started to making a whirling sound as it wound up the film. Of course, the foreign sound terrified the baby and it started to howl.
Ian winced oh this was not good. "They get very angry when you run out of film."
Of course the adults charged her, Ian wanted to go help but Nick held him because Sarah was basically trying to run as these stegosauruses were swinging those spiked tails around. Ian kept telling Eddie to shoot with his special stun dart made of a specific toxin. But Eddie wouldn't because they were just protecting their baby.
Well so was Ian.
He was lucky though, because Sarah got away and the herd plodded on and away. And Sarah was just going to pretend like they hadn't tried to kill her. Like she hadn't been attacked.
Sarah just didn't want to listen to him argue, they were walking back to where they the trailers had been left, Nick was going on about how he clearly won the Pulitzer over this, no point in anyone else submitting anything. And when Sarah didn't want to argue with Ian anymore she turned onto Nick, telling him to stop smoking.
He put the cigarette away and Sarah turned to confront Ian because she had to know that Ian wasn't going to drop it.
But she was cut off by something dropping out of the trees and right onto her back.
From what Ian could tell it was a child. Ian didn't get that good of a look at it, though, to be honest. At first glance he wasn't even sure the gender. He could tell that it was wearing one of Sarah's shirts as a dress and its hair was shorn short, not well and was being held back by one of Sarah's frayed hair elastics.
As soon as Sarah hit the ground the little crotch goblin on her back laughed. But when he moved to save Sarah from this attack the little child on her back suddenly screamed this strange sort of hiss at them and scampered right off of Sarah's back and into the bushes.
"What in the hell was that?" Ian shouted but Sarah simply got up and put a hand out.
"Stop it, you're scaring her."
"Scaring… Sarah!" he shouted but she was shaking her head at him.
"No wait, stop, stop," Sarah said. And then she approached the bush. "It's okay, it's okay, they're friends, come on out."
It took a little coaching but eventually the child came back out of the bushes. He could see now that it was a little girl. She was deeply tanned, with white scars on her arm from past injuries and probably more that he couldn't see. She was barefoot and probably not wearing pants.
But it was her eyes.
They were a vivid blue and wide. She kept regarding the three new men in front of her with a swivel to her head and those all together too wide eyes. She glanced at the two men who had joined Ian to stare down at her in utter shock and she scampered away to hide behind Sarah.
"Sarah… what… what the hell?" Ian cried which was seconded by both Nick and Eddie.
Sarah looked down at the little girl who was putting her hands into Sarah's pockets like a curious little monkey.
"So uhm… this is Una," she said. "And uh… I kind of found her."
"You found a child?" Nick asked.
"On this island?" Ian continued.
Sarah just nodded. "I uhm… I know she's been raised by something on this island, I'm going to say some kind of dinosaur, not sure which one because she uh… she can't speak a language I understand but uh… I have been teaching her English." She then turned to the little girl and said: "Una say Hello."
Una turned her little face up to them and then said: "Heh-low," in a way that made it sounds like she literally had no idea how to speak the English language. Any language actually.
"See, she's harmless," Sarah said. "She uh… she likes to climb, and she likes to uhm… ambush attack. Mostly I think she'd playing."
Playing that rough was strange, what kind of dinosaur taught rough play like that?
"How do you know her name?" Nick asked, getting his camera ready to take a picture of her.
"It took some work, but I eventually got it," Sarah said. She then put a hand Ian's chest. "Ian," she then put a hand to Nick's chest. "Nick," then finally she did the same with Eddie.
She then pointed to the little girl who put her hand to her chest and then made a noise, this straight sort of throaty rumble.
That must have been her name in whatever dinosaur language she spoke.
"No, no…"
"Nnnn-ooohhhh," the girl echoed.
Sarah did the exercise again and eventually the little girl put a hand to her chest and said: "Ooona."
Sarah turned a proud smile up to Ian who was just glaring at her. He was obviously going to lecture her, he obviously needed this to be a thing they figured out because seriously what the hell. But their argument about this new thing was stopped when Eddie suddenly screamed: "Dr. Malcolm Fire! Fire at the base camp!"
And then they were running back to where they left their two trailers and the jeep, Sarah tugging Una along with her. The girl didn't even break a sweat, so she was used to running that could be a sign of Predator or Prey though.
When they got to the camp site, they immediately went about trying to put that fire out, Nick going for their clean water supply to waste it on dumping it onto the fire.
"Water makes smoke billow, use dirt!" Sarah ordered and then went about kicking dirt over the fire.
"Who started the fire?" Ian wondered.
And that when Kelly opened the door to the camper and just sort of eyed them in nervousness because she knew that she was in trouble "I just wanted to start dinner. I wanted it ready when you guys got back."
Oh god. So much trouble.

Ian had been yelling at Kelly and trying to convince Sarah, Nick and Eddie to head back to the mainland with him when the helicopters showed up.
A whole fleet of them carrying jeeps and other cars and boxes upon boxes of supplies. Every single piece of equipment and helicopter had the Ingen logo on them. So they followed the helicopters to see what the hell was going on.
What they found was a separate Ingen team that had been sent to collect dinosaurs.
They watched their jeeps careen through the game trail getting the herds to move and then they were running them off of the trail to catch.
They watched them catch a Pachycephalosaurs by looping a rope around it's neck. They took out a Parasaurolophus by taking it's legs out from under it while it brayed in terror.
And as it bellowed out in fear, the little girl that Sarah had found chattered back. She was making a series of strange noises, high pitched trills that he had never heard before.
She was clearly getting way too agitated to continue watching, her noises got increasingly louder and more distressed. She must have been the child of an herbivore, clearly taken in by one of the herds she was watching get captured. Maybe those were her friend and family down there.
And with the amount of noise that she was making they were sure she'd get them caught. So they picked her up, dragged her back to the camp site while she howled.
They mostly ignored her though, they were too busy trying to come up with a plan.

Across from the game trail a pack of raptors were watching the bipeds on their motorized creations as they ran the herbivores off of the trail to capture.
It didn't look like they were hunting to eat, it looked like they were hunting for… something else.
Roc moved a little closer to her. "What do you think they want them for?"
Rela wasn't sure. But she didn't like it. Didn't like the glinting vines they used to trap the herbivores that wouldn't break. She didn't like the bangs from their metal sticks that made the herbivores they had captured fall to the ground. She didn't like their loud and fast machines that looked bulky and hard to penetrate.
She didn't like that they were there at all.
But what she didn't like the most was that she didn't have Una, and she was afraid of one of these bipeds taking her.
"Move the nest," she said after a while. "Somewhere far from here."
The rest of the pack nodded and moved off, but Roc didn't.
"What about Una?"
Yes what about Una?
Rela hadn't stopped thinking about Una, her poor little Una, in fact she swore she could hear her little brays on the wind right now.
But that was impossible because Una was deep in the jungle with the biped who were supposed to be healing their little hatchling. She was no where near here.
"We'll wait until nightfall and then bring her back."
Roc nodded and finally moved away. Rela struggled to keep her worry at bay. She knew that biped wouldn't have been alone for long, but she didn't think they would come in this many in number and for this purpose. She just had to hope that she could get her hatchling back from it before they took her away and put her in one of their barred nests.
