After a small hiatus because I had a break in my comp, I am back at it! This is my round 8 fic for QL, where I remain the Arrows captain!

This round is about the next generation! We have been given a prompt, and we have to make a next generation story using it. The captain's prompt was to write about someone being at odds with their family. This is going to be fun! Hope you like it!

It was finally Quidditch tryouts, and Lucy Weasley knew she was ready for it. She had practiced nearly every day this summer with her sister, Molly, and her Potter cousins, Albus, Lily, and James. She was certain that she would get a position on the team, perhaps as the Keeper, which was currently an open spot after Dominique had graduated last year.

Lucy waited among the groups of students, as they waited for James to arrive. James had been awarded the captaincy after Dominique, and Lucy knew that he would be a good one. He'd been on the team for years, and was a complete natural on a broomstick.

"Hi, Lucy!" Lucy turned to find her cousin Hugo beside her. The two of them were both third year Gryffindors, and had been friends ever since they were little. Lucy hadn't known that Hugo was going to try out for the team this year. "Ready for this?"

"Absolutely," Lucy agreed, pleased to know someone else that was trying out. Most of her other friends had little interest in Quidditch. "I've been practicing all summer, I know I'll get on the team. What position are you trying out for?"

"Keeper," he answered proudly. "Just like Dad was."

Lucy managed to hide her surprise as he said this. "Cool! So am I. May the best flyer win!" Inwardly, Lucy worried. Hugo's sister Rose was on the team, and so she would have been able to help him train. As well as that, his father, Lucy's Uncle Ron, had been on the Gryffindor team as Keeper for several years.

You can do this, Lucy thought quickly. You've trained too hard not to! But a very big part of her knew that going up against Hugo and winning wouldn't be an easy feat. She would not make the mistake of underestimating him.

"That'll be me," Hugo said confidently. "I'm going to kick your butt, Luce. No offense."

Lucy narrowed her eyes at Hugo as he turned away. No offense huh? We'll see about that. She knew that Hugo had his father's tendency to be a bit of a prat sometimes, but until now, it had never been directed at her. Lucy knew that, under other circumstances, she might have forgiven Hugo, but this was different. He was implying that her hard work wouldn't amount to anything. Oh, he's going down. "Don't be so confident," she warned him.

After a few more minutes, James finally arrived, along with Rose and their fellow teammate, Ebony. "All right, you lot!" James called to the assembled students. "We're going to start with some drills, see that you've got the basics. Then we'll move through the positions and see how well you know how to play. If there are any of you who are very close in skills, we'll determine who gets the position after that."

Everyone stared rather blankly at James, until Ebony clapped her hands sharply. "Chop chop! Let's start these drills, then!"

Lucy snapped into action alongside the twenty or so prospective players, as they made their brooms fly into their hands. Lucy placed her own Silver Spectre on the ground before confidently stating, "Up!"

With little trouble, the broom levitated into her hand. She looked over to where Hugo was doing the same. It took him two tries to make the broom obey. Lucy allowed a slight smug grin before smoothly mounting her broom and taking off, joining the flyers already in the air.

James gave the prospects their drills, and everyone was soon flying around the pitch. Various degrees of skull could be seen as they all soared, barrel rolled, and passed Quaffles, among other various drills. Rose could tell that she would easily make it through this stage of tryouts, as it appeared that about seven weren't very skilled with a broom, and two of them seemed to have never properly handled a broom before.

Finally, James blew a whistle and called everyone back to him. "That wasn't bad, guys, nice work!" He and Rose separated everyone into two groups, and quickly turned to the first. "I'm sorry, guys, you didn't make the cut. Maybe next year!"

The seven players who had been dismissed grumbled as they made their way back to the stands, where most of them chose to stay and watch the rest of the tryouts.

Lucy found herself among the second group, which consisted of thirteen players who had made it past the first stage. She rolled her eyes as she saw that Hugo had indeed made the first cut. He looked around and caught her eye, smiling encouragingly. Is he serious? Did he forget how he was acting not fifteen minutes ago? She pointedly turned away.

James, Ebony, and Rose conferred with each other for a minute before they turned back to the remaining students. "Now we'll just see how well you guys actually play. We'll have you separate into the positions you're trying out for, and we'll see how good you are at it. Best player wins."

The three of them separated everyone into their groups. Lucy found herself with Hugo and another girl, a sixth year that she didn't know. They all watched as the Beater and Chaser tryouts sent pretty much without incident. There was no need for a Seeker tryout, as that was Ebony's position, while James was a Beater and Rose was a Chaser. Shortly after their individual trials, the positions were announced to be going to Gena and Vince for Chasers, and Lisbeth for the remaining Beater spot.

"All right, you three!" Ebony called out to Lucy, Hugo, and the older girl. "Let's see how well you can Keep."

The trio approached James, Rose and Ebony. "Rose will send some shots your way, and you block them. The one who blocks the most will get the spot."

The older girl, who James addressed as Aurora, performed well. Rose sent seven shots at her, and she blocked five of them, including one shot that was done just using the tips of her sneakers. Lucy applauded her as she came down from the sky.

"Nice job!"

Aurora blushed slightly. "It wasn't that good." She seemed embarrassed by the attention, but also quite pleased.

"Hugo, you next!" Rose called from the air. Hugo raised his eyebrows in challenge at Rose as he mounted his broom and flew up to the posts.

Hugo didn't quite match up to Aurora, in the end. He got four goals out of the seven he had to attempt. Lucy had at first thought that Rose might have taken it easier on him, but that turned out to not be the case. There didn't seem to be any difference between the shots thrown to him versus Aurora.

"Nice try, Hugo," Rose called as he descended. Hugo scowled as he landed his broom. Lucy barely resisted the urge to smirk at him as she took his place at the hoops. She'd warned him, hadn't she?

Unfortunately, Lucy also did not manage to beat Aurora's five saves. She managed four, and as she was preparing for the seventh and final save that would bring her to a tie, the wind picked up briefly, which threw her off just enough that she missed the final save.

In defeat, Lucy rejoined Hugo and Aurora on the ground. Rose landed as well, and turned to confer with Ebony and James. They broke apart, facing the prospects.

"Good job, you guys. From that showing, it's pretty clear who our new teammate is. Aurora, congratulations, and welcome to the team!"

Lucy couldn't find it in her to be upset. She knew that in the end, it had been their antagonism that had led to Hugo and her performing poorly. "Congratulations!" she told Aurora.

"Yeah, good luck this season," Hugo managed. He eyed Lucy, then lowered his gaze in guilt.

I'll talk to him later, she thought. Let him feel bad for a while.
