Hi there! Here's Noxton with a small One-Shot as an apology for the delay with Archive of Knowledge.

If you have seen the notice in Archive of Knowledge, you'll know why I'm posting this.

This is something quickly I threw together while on vacation.

It's a small One-Shot about Izuku and Momo and how a friendship could start between the two. It can be seen as simply a friendship between the two or the start of IzuMomo, it can be seen however one wants.

And with that, I wish you a good time reading!

The Kettle

Yaorozu Momo glared at her foe, a frown marring her face. She didn't understand! She did everything necessary, exactly as she was taught, so why? Why?!

Why did this blasted kettle refuse to work?!

It was early morning at the UA dorms, and the young heiress used to waking up early from all her years of study. Her Quirk required a lot of knowledge of the composition of various objects, so she was used to waking as early as five o'clock.

Usually, when she woke up, her maids would have already prepared her clothes for the day as well as her breakfast, so that she could immediately focus on her studies.

But, since she now lived in the dorms, she didn't have any maids, so there hadn't been any clothes laid out for her, nor was a cup of tea waiting for her.

As such, she decided to brew a cup of tea herself.

And while she knew that she sheltered, for lack of a better word, such as never having to do her own bed or make her own breakfast, she also took steps to grow out of that sheltered lifestyle.

So she had asked her arguably best friend Jirou Kyoka (Something that still made her giddy, she had a best friend!) how to use a tea kettle and memorized the process.

It was easy, fill the kettle up to the marking with water, place it on the heater, and turn it on. Then wait until it turned itself off and all that was left was to pour the tea into a cup.

And yet, the kettle refused to turn on!

She had repeated the process about five times, even checked if it was plugged in, but it still refused to work.

The arguably smartest student in 1A lightly bit on her thumb-nail, indecision on her face.

On one hand, she really wanted a cup of her favorite tea while studying, but she also didn't want to wake anyone up just to help her brew a cup of tea.

And so she stood there, thinking on how to proceed. She was so deep in thought, that she almost missed the entrance door to the dorms opening.

Surprised, she turned around and saw one of her classmates, Midoriya Izuku enter the dorms, clad in green shorts and a white shirt along with his signature red shoes. Sweat clung to his form and he was using a gray towel to wipe some off his face.

To be honest, Momo was confused by her green-haired classmate.

At the start of the year, he had seemed like somebody who wasn't ready for the hardships of her school. He was meek and seemed to be nervous about any kind of situation.

And the less said of his Quirk, the better. He didn't seem to have any kind of control over it, breaking his own limbs when using it. It was almost as if he had it only for a short amount of time.

Frankly, Momo had pitied the obvious hero fanboy, considering that Aizawa was their teacher.

And yet, the timid, stuttering teenager went from the bottom last of the Quirk Test to Top Three Strongest in class in less than a year.

It was surprising, seeing him gain control over his Quirk so quickly and the way his meek personality seemed to fade into the background when he was focusing on the task before him.

But, that was just a stray thought passing through her head, quickly fading away in favor of greeting him.

"Ah, good morning Midoriya-san."

The hero otaku jolted in surprise, not expecting anyone to be already awake aside from him and Iida, who was still doing his laps.

"G-good morning Yaorozu-san!", he replied while placing the towel on his shoulders. "I didn't expect anyone to be already awake."

"Neither did I. But I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you're already awake and training", Momo chuckled.

Izuku blushed and sheepishly scratched his neck. "Hehe, yeah. I gotta train hard to keep up Kacchan and Todoroki after all. But why are you already up Yaorozu-san?"

Momo sighed and motioned to the tea kettle.

"I usually spent this time studying for my Quirk while drinking a cup of tea, but I just can't seem to get the kettle to work", she admitted embarrassed.

"Already studying so early? As expected of you Yaorozu-san", Izuku commented absently walking forward to examine the device.

"Expected? How do you mean?", she inquired, a confused look on her face.

"Huh? O-oh, I mean, you're so smart, so I should have expected that you study a lot", he said while looking at the plug.

Yaorozu blinked surprised before smiling, happy at hearing that her classmate had such a positive opinion of her.

"You're no slouch either Midoriya", she told him, while watching him with interest as he felt the entire length of the cable.

"You're after all third in class rank, and you're always training", she commented.

Izuku blushed, mumbling something to himself, face turning slightly red.

Momo had to suppress a giggle at his reaction. Maybe Mina was right, there was something enjoyable at teasing someone.

"A-anyway, I know why you couldn't turn on the kettle", Izuku said, gaining Momo's attention.

"Really? Why?"

"Something caused it to short out. It most likely happened yesterday during the blackout", he explained.

"Oh! That would explain it", she said annoyed. "I guess I'll have to make a new one then."

With that said, she turned around to lift her sleeping gown.

"Ah, there's no need! We have another kettle!", Izuku hurried to say, an embarrassed blush on his face. He quickly rummaged through the kitchen, letting out a sound of triumph when he found it.

Plugging it in and filling it with water, he turned back to his classmate.

"Would you mind if I also make a cup for myself?"

"Of course not", she answered, happily listening to the water boiling.

Izuku smiled at her expression before quickly making his way to his room to shower and change.

When he returned, he found Momo already waiting for him, also having changed into her uniform. She was sitting at one of the tables, various books and a notepad in front of her.

Two cups of tea were standing on the table, steam gently rising into the air. One was placed beside her while one was waiting for him opposite from her.

"I poured you some of my favorite tea, I hope you don't mind", she greeted him with a smile.

"I don't mind and thank you", he replied, sitting down and taking a sip. He blinked, surprised at the taste.

"That's delicious! What brand is this?", he asked her while pulling out his research materials. There was a new hero team that popped up in China which he wanted to add to his journals, and he finally managed to find a site that had information about their elusive fifth member.

"It's Brazilian Red Tea", she told him, happy at seeing him enjoy her favorite tea brand.

"Wait, isn't that the one whose tea leaves are only capable because of the Quirk of the owner?!", he asked shocked.

It was one of the most expensive teas in the world, as the only ones capable of growing these leaves are a family business in Brazil, whose Quirks allow them to manipulate plants why they're still growing.

Nothing extensive, like making them massive or fill them with spikes or something like that, but things like color and taste.

"Yes! My parents always buy a few boxes of the tea, so we always have some on hand", Momo chirped, unaware of the way Izuku nearly choked on air.

Once again Izuku was baffled by just how rich his classmate was.

"W-wow...", he muttered.

The two spent the remaining time until their classmates woke up chatting and working on their studies, as well as drinking their tea.

They didn't know it yet, but this would grow to become a tradition that they would maintain all the way into adulthood and even beyond.

And the kettle that started it all, stood on the kitchen counter behind them, waiting to be thrown out.

Izuku was walking towards the classroom with his friends, now also including Momo And Kyoka.

While they were walking, a stray thought surfaced in Izuku's mind.

'I wonder, how did the kettle get broken?'

-Yesterday-

"Hey, wanna bet I can power the kettle with my Quirk?"

"Fifty Yen that you can't."

"Oh, you're on!"

*Zaaap!*

"..."

"..."

"Scatter!"

-Present-

Izuku shrugged.

'Guess I'll never find out.'

And we're done! Like I said, it's a short thing, made to apologize for having to delay the next chapter of Archive of Knowledge by at least a week.

Anyway, I have to go and focus on Archive of Knowledge, so we'll see each other, hopefully, in a week!

Have a good time and goodbye!
