Davina's Room
Afternoon
"Whoa, your room is really cool. This balcony is awesome," Josh gushed opening the doors to the outside in Davina's room.
"Yeah, I know. I like this place. It's really old and filled with antiques, but honestly, you should see the place in Mystic Falls. You have to come up and visit when we go back," Davina responded.
"Definitely. I'm kind of waiting for someone to fill me in on how vampires get so rich. I tried to compel a barista for coffee the other day and almost got arrested. You witches and vervained people are everywhere," Josh complained.
"Ha, do not get arrested for a latte, Josh. What time are you guys leaving?" Davina asked.
"A little before dusk, Marcel wants to bring some nightwalkers as back-up. Honestly, being around all these wolves make me nervous. Some of them smell like dogs to me. But hey, your little cousin is a cute kid. That baby face and blue eyes. He looks so innocent, but yet he could rip out my throat!" Josh mused.
"Yeah, Erik can be adorable. His brother is cute, too. Maybe it's the accents, too? I don't know, but I feel kind of bad for them. I think my mom spanked Erik last night," Davina mentioned playing with a thread in her sock.
"Really, that's kind of weird to me. I mean, I get that they are old school vamps, but it's 2010, for God sakes. But I guess this is Louisiana!" Josh joked.
Davina threw a pillow at him, "Shut up! I'm from here and I never got it before they took me in. We're not all a bunch of hicks. It's just, I woke up and heard him crying and then she was like humming and singing to him. I want to know what happened but I didn't want to pry," Davina revealed.
"Oh my God, you were spying on them, weren't you? Yes, you totally were. Did you do a spell? Tell me," Josh demanded, laughing lightly.
"Just a little one! I was worried and then I got curious. I mean, I didn't think boys cried like that," Davina admitted.
"They probably cry more, and I'm not just talking about myself. You know it's like we are supposed to not show emotion and pen everything up and then it all comes out. It's probably not very healthy. But I'm curious as to what other secrets you have, Little Miss Nosey?" Josh prodded.
Davina's face grew red, "Okay, I have a little secret, but you have to promise not to bust me!"
"I will pinkie swear," Josh said solemnly, holding out his pinkie.
Davina accepted. She went to the rug and flipped to reveal the floorboards underneath. She pushed on the board and popped open the secret panel.
"Get the fuck out of here!" Josh gushed excitedly.
"So this used to be my mom's room. Kol used to snoop in here and he told me about this little hidey-hole thing. I found some old letters, pressed flowers, and these house plans from like the 1900s. There are crumpling a little," Davina whispered.
"Cool. Whose were these? Oh my god, look at this handwriting! The letters still smell like roses," Josh gasped.
"So the letters are too faded to really read, but they are from my dad to my mom when they were secretly seeing each other. I think they got in trouble because they wanted to build a house away from the rest of the family," Davina said with some sadness.
"Why? I mean, they are adults. Not to be judgy, but that's also a little weird," Josh added.
"I don't really get it. I was thinking that I should get these plans framed for a gift. What do you think? Nice frames? Maybe a shadow box with the letters and roses and a picture of them," Davina speculated.
"Stop it, you are going to make me freaking cry now. But one thing, maybe put a picture of the three of you. That would be really cute. Hey, what's this letter!" Josh said snatching out another letter.
"Wait! That's mine," Davina said hopping up.
"'My Darling, It has only been a few moments since you left and already the house, filled with other people, feels empty without you. The boys call me to play with them, yet all I want to do is imagine your lips on mine again and again. I know we are to be apart for only a short time more, but it is a living hell that feels like it will never end. Hide this letter where I told you to, or burn it. But know that I think of you every moment and only long for the time when we can truly be together forever. Always and forever, Love, Kol,' Do you have a tissue or something?" Josh wept.
Davina threw a box of tissues at him and he wiped away the tears.
"I can't," Josh said.
"See why I hide it? We can't text anymore because my parents check my phone now," Davina verified.
"I feel like your life is a movie. It's too much. Too romantic. I'll probably be single forever. How many other gay vampires are in this city? By my count, four and two are lesbians," Josh lamented.
"Josh, you will find someone great! It doesn't have to be a vampire either. Damn, if my old coven still didn't hate me, I'd hook you up with a few witches. You have a daylight ring now, you could go human. Just don't drain them," Davina smiled patting his arm.
"I'm okay. Yeah, you're right. I have to broaden my horizons. Marcel's vamps are pretty tough solider type dudes. I'm kind of afraid of most of them. Diego is always glaring at me and the others are just duds," Josh noted with irritation.
"Josh, they are probably jealous because Marcel likes you so much. If you haven't noticed, you've become almost his right hand man lately," Davina clarified.
"Really? I thought he was just coming me close so I didn't mess up again. Well, thanks for making me cry and hide that letter before you get busted. Now, I better move before I get busted for being late. I'll be with your little coz. I won't tell him that you were spying on him last night. Bad, bad, bad," Josh scolded lightly.
"I know! Just keep an eye on him. I kind of feel like I should be going," Davina considered.
"But how can you cloak yourself and do magic?" Josh asked knowingly.
"Ha ha, I can't. Very funny, now go," Davina said waving.
"Bye, text me later," Josh said watching her hide her the things from the hidden compartment again.
What Davina hadn't told Josh is that she had asked Erik for some of his blood. She wondered if she could do a reverse locator spell and locate some Guerrera's through his blood. Just one little spell wouldn't hurt, right?
"Davina, want to watch that movie?" Rebekah said opening the door.
"Mom, knock!" Davina yelled almost knocking over a candle.
"What in the world are you doing?" Rebekah asked sharply.
"If I tell you the truth am I going to be in trouble? Because I think I just found something important," Davina asked hopefully.
"Just tell me, luv," Rebekah pleaded.
"I think the Guerrera are in the swamp! I did a reverse locator spell using Erik's blood right after Dad, Josh, and Erik left. It showed that someone of Erik's bloodline was in the Bayou. I thought maybe it was Erik, but there is not way there were there already. I did it again and now it is even closer," Davina said.
"Oh my god, I need to get to the swamp and warn them. There is no cell service there," Rebekah said turning away.
"Please, Mom. I need to come with you! I have a feeling you are going to need me," Davina pleaded.
"Absolutely not! Stay in this room. It's not safe," Rebekah said.
Davina said, "Incendiarius!" The map that she used for the spell burned.
"What did you just do, young lady?" Rebekah fumed.
"I burnt the map. Now you have to take me with you or you won't be able to find them," Davina smirked proud of herself.
Rebekah vamped over to the dressing table and picked up Davina's hairbrush.
"No! I'm trying to help," Davina squealed as Rebekah grabbed her arm and began spanking her with the heavy brush.
Now matter how hard she tried to dance away or block the smacks, Rebekah's aim was better. She whacked her backside and thighs all the way to the car. Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
"OWww, owwie. OUCH!" Davina cried as her bottom was peppered with smacks. Crack! Crack!
"Get in the car," Rebekah said sternly. She already had a cooler of water, some food and blood in the back as she had been planning on going to the Bayou herself later.
"It hurts," Davina sobbed. It actually did sting a little, but her jeans had provided a decent amount of protection. Rebekah put the hairbrush in the center console of the SUV. Davina squirmed and shifted trying to find a comfortable position, her thighs got the brunt of it.
"Just wait until I get you home tonight, missy," Rebekah said backing up.
"I hate when you call me 'missy'! Who the hell is missy?" Davina snapped, wiping her tears away.
"We don't have have time for your antics right now. I am starting to think the kids of this family are spoiled rotten brats...I swear if I did that to my mother,-" Rebekah was muttering under her breath.
"Did you spank Erik last night?" Davina accused.
"That is none of your business, Davina. Just like I wouldn't discuss the punishment you are going to get with someone else, I'm not going to discuss their punishment with you," Rebekah replied.
"So he did get punished? What did he do?" Davina pressed.
"I didn't say he did anything. You know what? Our first priority is to get you kids safe and it seems like all you want to do is put yourselves in danger and break the rules that are there for your safety. I've had it. This ends tonight," Rebekah ranted.
Davina had never seen Rebekah so angry. She began to cry and kicked the front panel with her foot. She then made a fist and begun to dig her nails into her palms. She was also furious. Davina was just trying to help.
Rebekah breathed in through her nose slowly and calmed herself. She didn't know what was happening at the Bayou, but if the Guerrera's were there, it could be bad. She reached over and took Davina's left hand with her right hand.
"I'm sorry for yelling, Davina. I'm just worried. I'm not sure you understand what we are facing here. Promise me, whatever happens you will protect yourself first, okay? Don't worry about the ancestors or the French Quarter witches, you are anchored in Mystic Falls now. Draw from that power. If you need to, you can use me as a conduit," Rebekah said quietly.
Davina sniffed, "Okay, sorry, too." Davina didn't bother asking how much trouble she was in, she figured it didn't matter if they all got hurt or killed.
Rebekah squeezed her hand, "It's all right, luv. We'll be okay. We've faced worse enemies and won."
Bayou
Dusk
Marcel brought the witch Gloria to the Bayou to look after Adrian and his brother Tommy. Gloria was a tall, beautiful witch with black skin and short cropped blond hair. Marcel had known her for a hundred years and she still looked forty.
"Josh, be the lookout. Erik, come in here with me," Marcel said following Gloria into the shack that Mary and Eve had housed them in. Mary was rolling up the plaid sleeves of her flannel sheet and ready to wipe down their bodies with cool mud.
Marcel made the introductions.
"That's a good technique. That mud from the swamp has deep healing properties. Put that on their wounds and I'm going to see if I can get a read on what happened to them," Gloria said to Mary.
"Do you practice in the city?" Mary asked.
"No, ma'am. I am a practitioner of hoodoo and I follow the old ways of my people," Gloria reveal placing her hands on Adrian's head.
"I can feel the fever. It burns hot. He was trying to protect his brother, but the other wolf was unnaturally strong. They were trying to take them, but they would rather have died than be captured. They were shot with darts full of some kind of toxin...werewolf toxin," Gloria spat out.
"Those don't look like werewolf bites. Here's some blood that might heal them. It's not much but should be enough for both of them," Marcel said giving Gloria a small vial.
It was Klaus' blood, but Marcel didn't mention that as the family kept that a closely guarded secret.
Gloria had the women lift up Adrian and they fed him some of the blood.
"It didn't work," Erik said softly. Klaus' blood should have healed the wounds instantly.
Gloria looked sharply at Erik, "What are you?"
"What, ma'am?" Erik said in confusion.
"I said what are you? You ain't just a wolf, you are something different.
Marcel, can I talk to you outside?" Gloria snapped.
"Yeah, of course," Marcel said patting Erik on the back.
When they got outside the shack, Marcel sent Josh in to keep an eye on Erik.
Josh entered the hot, stuffy shack and smiled lamely at the two women inside.
"That's a beautiful quilt. I guess someone out here made that-without a sewing machine. Very impressive," Josh rambled, trying to break the awkward silence. Then, Josh looked down.
"Oh no, what's wrong with them?" Josh exclaimed.
Before him was the most beautiful man he had every seen, Adrian lay breathing shallowly. The cuts in his body were now covered in mud and his chest was pale.
"A real life sleeping beauty," Josh said dreamily.
"What's that, son?" Eve asked kind.
"Ah, nothing. I just hope they get better. Anything I can do to help?" Josh asked.
"You can rub this mud over his cuts. Maybe over this rash?" Mary said handing Josh the jar of swamp mud.
"I would love to. Thank you. I mean, you're welcome. I mean...I'm shutting up now," Josh went on.
Erik tuned his hearing to Marcel and Gloria's conversation.
"It might work. Let's give it a try," Marcel was saying as he and Gloria entered the shed.
"Erik, would you give Aiden some of your blood please?" Marcel asked handing him a small knife.
"Ah, sure thing," Erik sliced open his hand. It hurt and dripped some of the blood into Aiden's open mouth.
"Nothing," Eve reported.
"Thanks anyway, buddy," Marcel said gratefully.
"No problem," Erik said watching Josh slather mud over Aiden.
"I think that's enough," Gloria remarked to Josh.
"Oh, of course," Josh said putting the jar down.
Gloria gave a small bag of herbs to Eve, "Here's a ginger tea that may help the fever. Brew that and cool it. Sweeten it with this honey, just until we figure out what is wrong with them."
Mary nodded her thanks, "Thank you for helping us. It ain't easy for us to get a witch here in the Bayou to help us."
"Marcel is an old friend," Gloria smiled, "You could say that I owe him."
By the dock
Evening
Jackson and Ollie were sitting by the dock drinking a case of beer. Adrian and Tommy seemed bad off. It was ironic that the Crescent curse was lifted and now this. The wolves in the camp were restless. Fights were breaking out. There was a mood of discontent in the air.
"Your Grams ain't gonna be pleased with us if we get too shitfaced tonight," Ollie laughed.
"Yeah, she used to lock out my grandfather all night when he come home drunk. He'd pound on the door for hours," Jackson laughed.
"You wouldn't let him in?" Ollie inquired.
"Hell no, you know I'm afraid to cross that woman. He finally learned to take up checkers," Jackson mused.
"If that happens to us, I'm feeding us both to the gators. What the hell was that?" Ollie asked in alarm.
Then, they heard the screaming.
"Pull further down there, I think," Davina directed.
Rebekah pulled in near a lot of old battered trucks.
"Jeez, these wolves sure like their trucks!" Rebekah scoffed.
"Down this way," Davina called leading the way.
"Davina, wait for me," Rebekah pulled her bag out of the car. She threw in the hairbrush, just in case. She also had some extra blood, water, and a few other useful items in her bag.
"Oh my god, what was that?" Davina stopped dead in her tracks.
"It sounded like a scream. Let's hurry," Rebekah said holding her arm.
In the shack, Aiden and Tommy started to stir.
Josh said, "It looks like they are waking up."
Tommy's eyes popped open, they were a bright orange.
"Oh my god, is he a hybrid or something?" Gloria gasped. She began to cast a boundary spell around the two wolves but Tommy vamped and knocked her down.
Erik growled, "Josh, Marcel, get the ladies out of here!"
Erik began to change into his wolf form. Tommy also changed and bit Gloria who screamed loudly. Marcel and Josh got Eve and Mary to safety by vamping them out. They heard other screams outside.
"It's an ambush!" Someone yelled.
Aiden also woke up with orange eyes, Erik snapped his neck easily rendering him unconscious. Tommy was still fighting. Erik howled and went for the neck. Tommy wasn't as strong and Erik was able to toss him to the wall, stunning him for a moment. Erik pinned him and also snapped his neck. Erik then jumped through the window of the shack and followed the sounds of the screams that filled the swamp.
The Guerreras had come for their revenge.
