*Author's Note: Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry it took this long to get this chapter out! As a heads up, it's two to three times the length of my normal chapters, but you lovelies have waited so patiently, I wanted to give it all to you now, instead of breaking it up into multiple chapters. Please enjoy!

"Oh, Queen Frigga, I can't wear this." Aura studied herself in the mirror. The rose gold dress glittered in the light with her slightest movement. "This is much too nice."

"Nonsense," the mother goddess retorted, fastening the swooped back.

Aura's cheeks warmed the longer she looked at herself, the longer she watched the queen work. She felt ridiculous. A servant girl should never have access to anything like this. "But I honestly don't understand why you're insisting on all of this trouble. It's only dinner."

Frigga poked her head by the other's. Winked at her in the mirror. "You haven't spent time with each other in a long while."

"But I saw him today—"

"No more buts. You trust me, don't you?"

"Yes, Queen Frigga."

"Then there shall be more buts." She gathered the mass of the young maiden's hair. Began dividing and braiding. Twisting and fastening into an elegant up-do. Into a hairstyle normally worn by royalty.

Emotions threatened overwhelming the partial light elf. She blinked back tears the best she could, but a few managed escaping. "Queen Frigga…I can't. This isn't right."

"Face me, my dear."

Aura wiped at her eyes and turned around.

Frigga held the other's chin up. "You are Sinmara's daughter, remember? You are a princess by blood. Even if no royalty touched your veins, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the occasional pageantry. Everyone deserves to feel special. Everyone deserves to like who they are."

"But I am a slave. That is who I am—"

"What did I say about buts? And that is not who you are. Nor do we use that vile 's' word. You are Aura. You are a beautiful girl with a beautiful heart. Your 'profession' title doesn't define you. You define yourself. Now, hold still." She procured a thin piece of charcoal and traced Aura's gradually slanted eyes. "A little bit of this goes a long way. Look."

The younger maiden faced the mirror once more. Pressed her lips together, trying her best not to ruin the fresh liner. She nodded.

Frigga fussed with some of the curls at the bottoms of the up-do. Placed loving hands on her shoulders. "You deserve nothing but the best. You are Aura. You're fiercely loyal, a silent guardian, a wonderful healer. You're brave in the face of fear. You're a skilled survivor, and your kindness knows no bounds. You bring a peaceful atmosphere with you wherever you go. In fact, that's why I named you Aura."

Her dark blue eyes lifted. "You named me?"

She softened. "When you were handed to me as a baby, your energy was so strong, even then. Others may not have been able to sense it, but I could. You are who you are, and that's the best person you can be. I will battle anyone who tells you otherwise. Including Loki. Including yourself. Understand?"

Aura sheepishly smiled. "I understand."

"That's my girl. There's one more thing, and you'll be finished." The witch moved to her desk. Found an ornately carved box and returned. Standing behind the other, she removed a shimmering necklace from it. Draped it around her neckline. "This not only looks perfect on you, it also disguises your appearance. Same as the pearls."

She gasped at the blue butterfly pendant, the way the pearlescent shades danced from one color to the next in the light. "No…this is way too much. I really don't deserve—"

"What did I just tell you?"

Her head sunk between her bare shoulders. "I'm sorry."

A light rapping sounded.

Frigga brightened. "That should be him."

Aura's eyes widened, and she clutched the queen's arm. "Wait. He can't see me like this."

The goddess laughed. "Why not, my dear?"

"Because," she glanced around, "because he's not used to seeing me like this. And I-I-I don't, I don't know."

"Believe me, this has nothing to do with him. You're not used to seeing yourself in such a manner. You don't fear his reaction; you fear your own. But I promise you, you have nothing to be afraid of. Even if you change your appearance, it doesn't change your heart. Look at me. Look at Loki. All we have to do is snap our fingers, and we change our appearance. Who we are remains the same. You're still Aura, yes?"

The partial light elf nodded. "Yes, Queen Frigga."

"Then that's the end of the matter." She adjusted the placement of a braid. Swept across the room in all of her regal manner. A broad smile on her face as she opened the door. "Loki." She placed a hand on his chest and lowered her voice. "This better get me one step closer to grandchildren."

Thor heartily laughed from behind the chaos god, slapping him on the back.

Loki rolled his shoulders. Glared at the thunder god. "Why are you still here?"

"I am not missing my little brother's big day."

He sighed. Addressed his mother as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "We'll move at our own pace, thank you. Besides. It's only dinner."

Frigga's lips pursed. "Only dinner? Of course. Is that why you're wearing the royal attire of my Realm?" She outstretched an arm behind her. "Aura, my dear. Come join us, please."

Aura's gaze lingered on her reflection in the mirror for a moment longer before she timidly approached. The back of her high-low skirt hovering just above the ground, her ivory warrior sandals making no sound. Her sights found Loki, and she searched him.

The god of mischief stood in white pants clad with black boots trimmed in silver. Her gaze followed the platinum filigree embroidered in his smoky blue tunic. The design seemed familiar. In a forgotten memory kind of way. The same filigree bordered a cape hanging off his right shoulder. The lightweight fabric seemingly woven from silver stars.

Had she seen this before? In a dream, perhaps? Either way, he was dashing, especially with his hair hanging loosely about his face. Her cheeks reddened. "Good evening."

Loki sucked in a sharp breath. Pleasant surprise pulling at his features. She was stunning. Not that he didn't always find her magnificent, but he typically saw her in simple servant attire. Attire meant for the servants to all look the same. Now, she stood before him like the elegant queen he knew she had every right to be. He was suddenly underdressed.

Thor cleared his throat, shoving his brother forward.

He deftly regained his footing while maintaining his poise. A suave smile graced him. He took one his beloved's hands. "I'm terribly sorry; I've forgotten my manners." He kissed the top of her hand. "You are, by far, the most beautiful being in all the Realms. The stars themselves compete for your glory."

Aura's blush deepened as she curtsied. Avoiding his eye contact, lest she melt into embarrassment. "The credit is not mine. You must praise Queen Frigga. She's the one who did this for me."

The witch waved a hand. "Nonsense. I will accept no credit. Loki, I assume you have an illusion for yourself. Aura, if anyone asks, you're a giantess named Angrboda."

Her head slightly tilted. "Do I appear tall, if it makes me look like a giantess?"

"Full-blooded giants can alter their size, remember? Now get. The both of you. Enjoy yourselves while the night is young. There's no curfew, so I'm not waiting up." She shooed them out of her private chambers and stood next to her biological son.

Loki offered his left arm. "Shall we, my lady?"

Aura giggled, placing a delicate hand in his elbow. "We shall, my lord."

Thor leaned towards his mother as the pair walked off. "Fifty gold he returns and laments he made a fool of himself the whole time."

Frigga didn't miss a beat. "One hundred gold he sprawls on my divan and groans for an hour like the drama queen he is."

The trickster heard hushed chatter behind him and checked over his shoulder. His brother held up both thumbs with a dumb grin; his mother simply waved. His eyes narrowed. Those two were up to something.

"Loki?"

He snapped his attention back. "Yes, love?"

"Where are we going?"

"A place I've scouted out beforehand."

"You're always so secretive."

"It's a surprise, that's all."

"Oh, I…I didn't tell you before, but I think," her cheeks warmed, "I think you look beautiful, too."

He grinned. "No one's called me beautiful before."

Her whole face reddened. "Well, h-handsome or nice or whatever the term is for men."

"Anyone can be beautiful, even men. I only meant I thought it was sweet."

"O-okay. I'm sorry."

"Why do you need to apologize?"

She glanced away. "I don't know. I guess it's because I'm nervous."

He brushed a cheek with her thumb. "There's no reason to be nervous. It's only me."

"But we haven't seen each other in a long time."

An eyebrow rose. "We saw each other this morning, didn't we?"

Her lips thinned as she suppressed knowing laughter. "We did."

They entered one of the palace's main corridors.

Aura inhaled a breath of contentment. Able to take in the palace's intricate, golden beauty. This was the first time she could stroll without needing to rush for her next task. The first time she could keep her head level without her eyes forever cast down. Her vision wandered over the multitude of people traversing the halls. Delighted at their happy faces and pleasant chatter.

Until. Panic surged through her spine like a cold, raging fire, dropping her to her knees. She pressed her hands against her heaving chest.

Loki's eyes slightly widened as he felt her give way. He lowered to the ground with her. Knelt beside her, searching around them for what caused this response from her. He caressed a bare shoulder. "What's wrong?"

She pulled herself toward him. Tried obscuring herself within him. Whimpering, she clutched his tunic with tight fists.

He wrapped his arms around her. Gaze flitting back and forth over her trembling form. "Aura?"

Her breaths came rapidly as she dared a peek around him. "I-I thought...it can't be...but I thought, I thought—" She placed a hand over her mouth.

"You thought what?"

Tears threatened spilling. Her voice a whisper. "He looked just like him."

His tone lowered in turn. "Nafni..." A faint glow swirled in his darkening eyes, and he held her tighter. Scanned those milling around the palace. "Which one?"

"Red hair."

He found a man about his height with untamed fiery hair walking away from them. His eyes narrowed, lips finding the top of her head. "No one will hurt you. Not anymore."

She traced the embroidered design on his tunic for comfort. Attempted regaining her already thin composure. "I-I know...I'm so sorry. I know I shouldn't be so upset, I—"

"Aura, you have every right to be upset." He intently watched the redhead. Unable to shake a paranoid feeling. That man looked familiar to him, and he couldn't place why.

The partial light elf steadied her breathing. Though she managed checking their immediate vicinity, she still clung to him. "Why is, why is no one staring at us? We're on the floor."

Loki's gaze finally detached from the imposter. Found his beloved once more. "To everyone else, we're standing, enjoying Asgard's architecture. No one knows anything is wrong."

"Are you that quick at making illusions, or do you keep one up around us?"

"Yes."

She squinted an eye in thought. Gave a nod and exhaled a long breath. Resting her forehead on him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin dinner."

He tilted her chin up, offering a gentle smile. "You haven't ruined dinner. You haven't ruined anything. Let's say that was Nafni. I would've done what I do, and I would've enjoyed it very much."

Her trembling continued. "Is it...is it wrong that I wish Heimdall hadn't given him such a quick death?"

"There are those who would argue against me, but I say no. Are you alright?"

Taking his hand, she held it against her cheek for a few minutes. Squeezed her eyes shut. Then she nodded. Rose and smoothed her skirt. "I'm okay. I'm okay. Thank you."

"Are you certain? We can take a few moments, if you'd like."

"I'm okay. I'd rather move on."

"As you wish." He wrapped an arm around her waist. Held her close as they continued through the palace.

Aura bit her bottom lip. Glanced up. "What would you have done to him? If that was Nafni?"

"Specifically?" The Jotunn never met her gaze. "I'd rather not say."

A faint grin overcame her, and her lively steps returned.

He regarded her curiously. "Did that please you?"

"Yes. If you won't tell me, then I know you must have horrible plans."

"You're not wrong." He guided them outside. Keeping an eye out for the red-haired man.

Fandral stood in front of a docked skiff. Practicing swordplay with an invisible opponent. He beamed when he saw the pair. Sheathed his weapon and swept a low bow. "Ah, esteemed friends of Prince Thor. Your chariot awaits."

Aura's nose scrunched with delight. "You can see us?"

"Of course, my dear lady!" He tapped his heels together beside her, bending slightly at the waist and quieting his voice. "Have no fear; I can't see through the illusions. I'm merely playing my part. Loki came to me previously and asked if I'd hold one for you. I agreed."

She peered around the Warrior. Watched Loki inspect the skiff. Then she looked back at Fandral. "Do the others know?"

"No. But what they don't know won't hurt them, I always say. Besides, I never had any quarrel with Loki. Well. There was that one time."

The trickster turned toward him. "As I recall correctly, you were quite drunk."

Aura glanced between the two men. "What happened?"

Fandral laughed. "He stole the most ravishing woman I had ever seen away from me."

Shaking his head, Loki held out a hand to help Aura into the skiff. "I convinced her she was too good for you. You were the one who stole Volstagg's roast and jumped onto the table."

The Warrior placed his hands on his hips. "I was young and made mistakes."

"Mistakes? I'd say. You drowned the poor maiden in vegetables, you were so determined to stagger across the table. I didn't steal her; you drove her away."

Fandral sighed. "Yes. Twas a sad night. I made a mockery of myself, you rightly mocked me, the girl of my dreams fled, I tried fighting you, you cast a sleep spell on me, I woke up to Thor's drunken snoring. It really could not have gone any better for me."

Aura chuckled as she situated herself in the hovering craft. "That doesn't sound like much of a quarrel."

The Warrior laughed. "I assure you, in my inebriated mind at the time, I was entirely ferocious and had slain the villainous Loki before falling mysteriously asleep. I shall bore you no longer. Have fun."

Aura waved as they pulled away from the private dock. "Thank you for your kindness, Fandral."

"You're most certainly welcome. And by the gods, do try to stay out of mischief." He deeply bowed once more.

Loki smiled to himself. Manning the vessel further away from the city.

The pair rode in silence for a little over an hour.

Aura sat at the front of the skiff. An elbow rested on the ledge with her chin in her hand. Her eyes closed as a grin traced her features.

Loki watched her with his own smile.

Her eyes finally opened. She sneaked a peak behind her. Giggling when he met her gaze with an inquisitive expression. She swiveled on the bench, facing him. "Thank you for not teleporting us. I miss this."

His head slightly tilted. "Miss what?"

She tucked a loose strand of hair behind a pointed ear. "I don't know how to explain it. Freedom, I guess. This feels like freedom to me." She faced the wind once more.

He searched her. Set his jaw. The determination to save her from servitude had never diminished.

"When I first arrived on Midgard, I was so frightened. Not only was I in a new Realm, I had no one to tell me what to do. My whole life had been dictated by others, and then I had absolutely no one. I sat in the knotwork burned by the Bifrost for five days. I didn't eat, didn't sleep."

His brows knitted.

Her fingers reached for the spray kicking up from the skiff as they travelled over a body of water. "A clan of North Men found me, originally. They claimed I was sent by the gods and took me back to their village, where the women cared for me. There was an elder who reminded me of Queen Frigga. The North Men, themselves, reminded me of Asgard, really. I assume Heimdall sent me there for that reason."

Loki nodded. "He's fairly wise."

"I travelled with them to England and stayed there for a long time. I spent my days walking to various villages. Healing those that I could. It seems like eons ago, now. I watched so many generations of Midgardians be born and die. As heartbreaking as I found mortal life, that was my favorite time. I was free to do anything I wished. If I wanted to save lives, I could. If I wanted to stand above the sea and feel the wind, I could."

"It does make me happy to know you did have some pleasant experiences from Midgard."

Her smile faded. "It only changed when I revealed my fire. I didn't mean to; I was trying to save a creature from being unjustly killed. At first, my powers were okay, but then the bad people came. And even though more generations passed, I kept finding myself enslaved by mortals with ill intentions."

"The humans tend to use any power for their gain."

She faced him once more. "Are they that different from us?"

His eyes lowered. "No." No, they were not that different, at all.

"I feel like I lived a thousand lifetimes on Midgard. But the one I miss most was when I was free. Even if it only lasted for a moment."

"I swear on my life you'll know freedom again."

She allowed a disheartened smile before looking off the bow. "It's a nice sentiment."

He watched the water passing under the hovering craft. Despite what Nafni did to her, despite what Midgard did to her, despite what even Odin did to her, she managed retraining so much innocence. So much joy. She was stronger than him, in that sense. He did nothing but retreat into anger and selfish pity.

However, he knew she suffered her pain in silence. As she did currently. He often wondered what she did with it all. Wondered how she kept it locked inside somewhere. It would only be a matter of time before it would need to be released. He only hoped he would be there for her when she finally snapped. If she ever snapped.

Loki's gaze wandered up. He wished she'd lean on him more. Yes, she confided in him, but she always knew what to say without giving too much up. That may be partly his fault. He hid so much of himself from her. "When I let go of Gungnir and fell into space, I—"

"What?!" Aura spun around with wide eyes.

He hesitated. "Did I not tell you about that?"

"No...what happened? You let go? Fell into space?"

Inhaling a deep breath, he momentarily stopped piloting the skiff. Ran his hands down his thighs. "There was a time when Odin actually banished Thor to Midgard. I learned of my true heritage then. Long story short, I took over Asgard's throne, Thor returned, and I ended up destroying part of the Bifrost. At one point, I dangled off the edge, holding only to Gungnir. I made the decision to let go. And I fell into space."

Her deeply concerned tone emerged, and her expression creased with empathetic sadness. "Why would you do such a thing?"

"What I had loved had been taken me. Everything I had grown to know was ripped apart. Thor pleaded with me, but I no longer trusted him. Odin looked me in the eyes and told me not to do it with such a hollow tone. He had no responsibility for me; I was never his son. I felt absolutely alone. In that selfish moment I thought, 'this is it. I'm done.' And I released."

"That was when the Titan found you?"

"Essentially. I don't know how much time passed. Time exists more differently in space than anywhere else. The Black Order found me, took me before Thanos. The only reason he didn't kill me right then was due to Ebony Maw sensing the power within me. So Thanos threw me in a cell and tried breaking me. It was rough, at first. But, my inherent stubbornness kicked in, and I wouldn't bend."

"You are very stubborn."

He allowed a bitter laugh and continued the vessel forward. "I went through every member of the Order. They saved Maw for last. He was, he was rough. The worst of the them. Still, I grinned and bore it. There were many instances I thought I would cave. Then I imagined you, imagined us. I could close my eyes and see us together, living in peace. That's how I managed Thanos's treatment, as well. That's when he brought the Mind Stone."

"Was that the one in the scepter?"

"Yes." The skiff stopped along a shoreline, but neither of them moved. "It showed me many things. Ushered me to Midgard. At the very back of it all, it showed me a spark, a flame. I think it was leading me to you all along. I convinced Thanos I'd work for him by proving my loyalty by killing in his name. He never trusted me, rightfully so, but he let me take the Chitauri to Midgard."

His eyes darkened as they focused on nothing. "And then I discovered you. Discovered what the mortals had done to you." His hands clenched, his tone intensifying. "I was filled with so much rage. So much hatred. And I didn't need the scepter's influence. No, I acted on my own when I ravished that Realm. It was the most I felt alive since leaving Asgard. I was chaos; I was destruction. I was the taste of blood—"

"Loki."

Blinking, he lifted his head. Searched the touch on his arm then the maiden beside him.

Aura placed her other hand on his face. "There's no need to stress yourself over such matters anymore."

He sucked in a shaky breath. "Of course." His eyes closed, and he rubbed the bridge of his nose. Placating the darkness he accidentally summoned. He finally surveyed the lush green covering the hilly terrain before them. "We are here."

She focused solely on him. "I want to make sure you're okay."

Loki swatted away any residual energy he caused. Took her hands and brought them to his lips. "I'm okay. It's best if I move on."

Her thin brows knitted. Relaxing only when he nodded. She eventually looked around and smiled. "This is place is beautiful."

"This isn't the place." He paused. "I do have an odd request."

She regarded him. "Of course."

"May I lead you the rest of the way there? I would like the final destination to be a surprise. Do you trust me?"

"Always."

He cleared his throat. "I, um, I can carry you, if that would make you more comfortable."

"I trust you to lead me." Her eyes closed, and she held up a regal hand. "You can start now."

"Wouldn't you rather deboard the skiff first?"

A broad grin stretched across her face. "You should trust that I trust you. I know you wouldn't harm me on purpose. I think it's a fun idea. It sounds like something we would've done as children."

"We did do this as children. And I, well, I accidentally ran you into Yggdrasil. I'm fairly certain my face remained red with embarrassment the rest of the day."

"In fairness, Yggdrasil is a very large tree. I think I do remember that, though. I think we laughed so hard beforehand, I'm surprised we made it anywhere."

Loki leaped over the side of the skiff. Grabbed her hand and helped her down. Thankfully, without any issues. "Are you certain you're okay with this?"

Aura laughed. Much as she used to laugh during their adolescent shenanigans. "Yes. This was your idea, and I agreed. Stop worrying so much, or you will run me into something because you're too focused on what could happen."

"You do make a point." He linked her arm through his right one. Guiding her across the uneven topography. Up one hill, down another. Into a scattered, crawling forest. Softly reaffirming which direction she should shift.

One of the times he told her to move right, she went left, running into him and tripping over her feet.

He supported her while she erupted into a laughing fit. "Are you alright?"

Her head fell on his chest as the giggles continued. "You said one way, but my brain interpreted it as the other way. I don't know what came over me. I think I'm okay. Are you okay?"

"You are standing on my foot."

Aura's gaze flew up, and she backed off him. Face flushing a deep red. "Oh no! I'm so sorry."

Loki chuckled. Still holding her elbows for her stability on the root-infested ground. "It's alright. You didn't hurt me."

She didn't let her gaze wander. Not wanting to ruin the surprise. Her eyes squeezed shut with a broad smile. "You know, for an elf, I've never been too graceful."

"In fairness, you're only half elven. But you are incredibly graceful. You're just not as graceful as I am."

The very tip of her tongue protruded, and she buried herself within his chest, incessantly giggling. Released a content sigh. Both of her arms wrapped around him. "I miss this, too."

He kissed the top of her head. Closed his eyes as he relished in the stillness for a moment. "As do I."

"Are we almost there?"

"Tell me what you hear."

Arms encircling him, she quieted her giddiness. Calmed her breathing and cleared her mind. She listened. Distant sounds of rushing waters reached her petite, tapering ears. She perked up, head lifting. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. Releasing him, she trotted toward the sound. Stopped and quickly covered her eyes with a hand. "Sorry…I got excited."

"It's quite alright, love. You needn't apologize." He kissed her free hand. Gently guided her the rest of the way. Without further incident. He stopped her at the edge of a clearing. Hovered his hands over her eyes. "Are you ready?"

She bounced on her toes. "Yes!"

He removed his hands. Taking a step back so she could have her space for exploration. "Welcome."

A delighted gasp escaped her, and her attention centered on the precariously rooted tree spilling its branches over the lazy waterfall it balanced over.

The tapering foothills of the distant mountains, a multi-level course of rock and root, provided the perfect environment for the waterfall. It snaked its journey until it developed a crystal turquoise pool at the base of the crags. Thanks to the water supply, rich green foliage bathed the area. All types of moss and flowers grew abundantly. Various birds flitted between the branches of the surrounding trees, their songs filling the air.

Aura couldn't contain herself any longer. With a gleeful squeal, she untied her untied sandals, glided through the thick grass, and waded into the water. Squishing her toes into the pebbly sand.

Loki smiled as he watched her care little for the skirt of her dress. As he watched her worries seemingly wash away in the pool. This was what he wanted for her. A life without paranoia. A life without the cage of the palace. A life she could live freely.

She eventually turned and faced him. The length of her skirt floating behind her. "This is the most wonderful place I've seen. How did you find it?"

He silently approached. His gaze wandering over the hidden area. "As much time as I spent in the palace, I also spent wandering through the secrets of Asgard. I've wanted to bring you here for so long. I just never got the chance."

Before she could respond, a shrill call vibrated the earth.

His upper lip curled as he turned toward the source. Speaking more to the universe than anything. "Can we seriously not enjoy one moment to ourselves?"

A massive creature crashed through the trees. Flapping one wing with wasted effort. It collided into the rock at the top of the waterfall and stayed there. A pained rumble emanating from its throat.

The partial light elf clasped her hands over her mouth. Turned back toward her beloved. "It's a dragon!"

"I can see that." He whirled back toward the direction it came, voices having drawn his attention. "Aura. Don't move." He thrust out both arms. Providing a sound-dampening illusion. One that made it look like neither them nor the dragon was there.

She gave the slightest nod. Her hands now clutched against her chest.

A small group of hunters rode into the clearing on horseback. The leader of them reigning in his steed short.

The large horse tossed its head, ears flattened.

Loki's nostrils flared as his eyes narrowed. Holding up the spell and hoping the dragon wouldn't make any sudden sounds.

All of the hunters looked around, their mounts shifting uneasily. The shortest of the group finally spoke up. "Where'd it go?"

The leader's keen gaze surveyed what they saw as a perfect clearing. "I do not know..."

One, clad in greens and browns, dropped off his horse. Searched the ground. He ran his fingers through the grass, sifted dirt through his fingers. "Two creatures have been through here, but neither are the dragon. Though, we all saw it head this way."

The largest man crossed his arms. "Well, this is disappointing. I was promised its hide for armor."

The leader waved a hand. "Yes, yes. We were all promised a piece of it. Which is why you shooting it the way you did continues aggravating me. You disfigured a perfectly good specimen. A rare one at that, too."

Every fiber in Aura's being tensed as she fought summoning her fire. However, it didn't stop her hair from darkening into the charcoal hue and floating around her head. How dare they refer to a living creature as a specimen. As nothing more than a trophy to be won.

Loki shifted his gaze. Allowed a faint smirk. He backed a couple of paces. Spoke very low. "Would you like to scare them off, love?"

"Yes," she hissed.

"Go. Use your fire to send them away. I'll disguise you."

She didn't need any further encouragement. Flames sprouted from her forearm, wrapping around until it became a living ball in her hand. Horns emerging, she stepped out of the initial barrier Loki threw up. Her righteous fury kindled at the thought of the hunters killing such an innocent creature. "Fools!" She hurled the fireball in their general direction.

The horses neighed and reared. Many exclamations came from the hunters.

"It's a huldra!"

"We've angered the forest spirits!"

"Leave before she makes us her slaves!"

Aura marched forward. Flames travelling up both arms. "You dare hunt this creature for sport?" Another shot in their direction.

The mounts turned before being directed by their riders. Galloping out of the clearing as fast as they could.

She threw another fireball for good measure, ensuring it wouldn't catch the landscape. Her dark eyes searched the tree line with intent ferocity. Once she felt they were gone for good, her hair fell back down her shoulders and back. The normal colors returning.

Loki moved next to her. Pride shined in his expression. "I'm impressed with how well you're learning control over your abilities."

Her eyes widened. "The dragon!" Pivoting, she sprinted for the waterfall. Picked her way up it with expert precision.

"Please be careful, love," he called, trotting forward a couple of steps. But he didn't follow her up the rocks. Lest he spooked the dragon with his presence. From his current position, he could see both her and the dragon quite well. Could keep an eye out in case the hunters returned. And he readied spells. He trusted her; he didn't trust anything else.

Aura slowed her pace the closer she got to the top of the waterfall.

The winged beast lifted its head. A deep rumble emanating from its throat.

She crested the top. Slowly lowered herself to her knees. Kept her voice even and soft. "I pose no threat." Her gaze wandered over the large gash tearing through the base of its right wing, and her lips thinned.

The maroon dragon pushed itself up on unsteady footing. Arching its good wing and flicking its tail back and forth. It snapped at the humanoid, jaws as big as her.

She didn't flinch. If it wanted to kill her, it would've done so already. It was hurt and scared. She held up a hand. "I'm here to help."

Piercing blue eyes with thinly slit pupils searched her. Teeth baring, it hissed.

Her hand lowered into her lap. "Would you like to get accustomed to me?" Keeping her movements close, she unclasped the butterfly necklace. "Now I might resemble more what I smell like."

The dragon startled at the change. Lashed out towards her again. But it took a few moments to sniff her before retreating with another growl.

She closed her eyes. Waited.

Loki shifted in his spot down below. The dragon had shown aggression a couple of times, but it had yet to harm his beloved. And she didn't seem phased by it. Sitting motionlessly. Waiting to gain some of its trust to heal it. He admired her patience.

Many moments of silence passed.

Aura sat still with closed eyes. A faint smile passing her lips as she heard the creature move toward her. Felt its hot breath reaching her. She faced her palm up but kept it in her lap. White magic swirling around her fingers.

The dragon snorted, sending another wave of breath over her. Its tongue flicked out toward her, as if smelling her true intentions. It rumbled again. This time in a not-so-threatening manner.

She opened one eye. Trying to keep her movements minimal. "I can help you. If you'd let me. I can make you fly again."

Its head snaked around her.

She used the opportunity to brush her glowing fingertips along its neck.

Fangs emerged again, but they soon disappeared as it enjoyed the calm magic.

Aura slowly rose. "Is this okay?"

The dragon maintained a visual on her, but it didn't protest.

Smiling, she rested her whole hand on its neck. Producing more of her gentle power. "I'm not here to hurt you." She ran her hand down to its shoulder. Eyebrows knitting at the large gash. Her voice softened. "I'm so sorry this happened to you."

Loki watched the scene unfold from his lower vantage point. A part of him paused as he watched Aura calm the wounded predator. There was something about it. His chest knotted. Was this how the outside world viewed their relationship? He, an unpredictable monster, and her, an innocent angel, trying to keep him tamed? Perhaps not. But the perspective stuck with him, nevertheless.

Aura hummed a soft tune as she touched the base of the wound. Continued her singing until the gash closed, and the bleeding stopped.

The dragon instantly perked up. Stretched out both wings with a newly found vigor. It released a victorious call.

She laughed. "See? Nothing more to worry about. You're free now."

Head bobbing into the air, it launched off the ground. Pebbles and water spraying from the gush of its wings.

Her smile grew as it flew further away. She stood on top of the waterfall until she couldn't see it any longer. Released a long exhale and climbed back down to ground level.

Loki met her. "It seemed to trust you rather quickly."

Aura's cheeks reddened. "Queen Frigga says light elves have a way with things. Especially animals."

"You certainly have a way with me."

Her flush deepened, and she quickly changed the topic. "Is dinner a surprise, too?"

His eyes slightly widened. He'd nearly forgotten about the food-portion of the evening. An innocent smile overcame him, and he bowed. "My dearest lady, I would never keep you malnourished." Sweeping an arm, a perfect picnic appeared on a nearby root big enough to hold the both of them.

She curtsied in turn. Allowing him to lead her over and hoist her up onto the sprawling tree's foundation. She gazed over the array of meats, cheeses, breads, fruits. "How do you keep this fresh?"

"It depends on my method of summoning it." He pulled himself onto the root. "But that's all I'll tell you, so I remain shrouded in mystery."

Her nose crinkled. "It's true that I've only ever been interested in you for your mystery."

He looked over at her, boyishly grinning at her inner personality emerging. She would never admit it, but she knew how to banter with him with her own version of sarcasm. Although, he hadn't heard that snarky tone from her since they were young. She must truly feel at ease.

She held his emerald stare for a moment. Lowered her gaze and found a piece of bread to nibble on. Her eyes briefly lifted. "Didn't you suggest this as a way to get to know each other again?"

"If I'm to be honest, I suggested it so we could be alone."

Pulling her legs underneath her, she settled on the root. "There's nothing you want to ask me? Nothing to see if I've changed? What if I'm not how you remembered before I was banished?"

He reached for her hand. "Granted, we've both changed, but you're exactly how I remembered. You're perfect."

A small smile pulled at the corner of her mouth, but she drew her hand away. "No. I'm anything but that."

"Why won't you let me praise you?"

"You know why."

"Aura, you know I've never seen you as a servant."

She didn't say anything.

He offered a change of subject. "Is there anything you'd like to ask me?"

"Is your favorite color still green?"

"This is because I'm wearing a different outfit, isn't it?" He surveyed the clothing. "See, I told Thor I should stick with my usual theme."

"Thor helped you pick that out?"

"Surprisingly, yes. This was his suggestion. I have to admit I feel out of place. I'm not sure what the blue and silver does for my complexion."

Aura giggled behind the piece of bread. "Well, I think you look rather dashing."

Loki glanced up. "But the green and gold is better, isn't it?"

"I think you'd look handsome in anything."

A devious grin overcame him. "Even in the fur loincloths of my fellow Jotunns?"

Bright red overtook her face, and she focused squarely on the bread in her hands. She didn't say anything.

He chuckled to himself, picking out a fruit. "You can thank Thor for that, too."

She stole a glance at him. "I'm not sure how appropriate a loincloth is."

"While that's a fair observation, you never answered the question regarding it."

She squirmed a bit. "Do I have to answer?"

"Only if you think I'm handsome."

"Well...earlier I said you're beautiful, so, ha."

He chuckled some more. "That's fair."

The pair ate in relative silence. Occasionally sharing memories of childhood and laughing at the antics they often found themselves in. There weren't many, but there were enough to last them until the sunset.

Loki had sent away the picnic when they were finished, and Aura sat next to him on the root, arms wrapped around his as they watched the sky change colors.

The first stars emerged when Aura broke the stillness. "What's wrong?"

He stopped his bouncing leg. "Nothing's wrong."

She interlaced her fingers with his. "Something's bothering you. You're anxious, distracted."

His head lowered, and he allowed a small smile. "I've never been able to hide anything from you."

Her eyebrows knitted. "I don't want you to feel like you have to hide from me."

"I just," he ran a hand through his hair, pulling loose strands away from his face, "I don't like you worrying about me."

She squeezed his hand. "I love you. I'm going to worry about you, whether you like it or not. Haven't you told me the same thing? But I won't make you share with me if you don't want to."

"You deserve my honesty." A long sigh escaped him. "Aura...what if I told you I could've saved you from being banished?"

Her head tilted. "I'm not quite sure why that matters."

"What if...what if I told you I could've saved you from Nafni?"

"You were in prison. Locked away without magic. There was nothing you could've done. I don't hold you accountable for either of those things."

"What if I told you I betrayed you with my weakness?"

"Loki, what's the meaning of any of this? You are not weak. You're one of the strongest beings I know. Let the past be the past. I'm here with you now. You're here with me. We're together. That's all that matters."

"But I could've saved you from so much pain if I accepted the Dark One sooner."

Her eyes flitted back and forth over him. She placed a hand on the side of his face and gently guided his gaze toward her. "I remember you mentioning the Dark One years ago. I remember you not wanting to talk about it, despite the pain it caused you. May we finally have a conversation about it?"

He looked up. Her question wasn't demeaning, wasn't accusatory. She was genuinely concerned for his well-being. He eased her into his lap. Wrapped his arms around and rested his head in the crook of her neck. As if using her for protection against himself. "It's a curse of my abilities. It's the darkness that's always been inside me. What you felt when I battled Odin. I balled it up when I was naïve. I was terrified of it. Terrified of what it would do to me, so I hid it way. If I accepted it from the beginning, I would've been powerful enough to stop Odin. To stop everything."

"At what cost, though?"

"Myself. I don't know how I would've turned out. I don't think I would've been how you know me now. Then again, I could've been the same, only more powerful. I'll never know."

She remained in thoughtful silence. Stroked his head. "What is chaos?"

He remained in his position. "By definition? Or by ideals?"

"Is it good or evil?"

His brows furrowed. "Neither? Both? I don't know where you're going with this."

"Chaos can be interpreted as confusion, right? The unpredictable nature of things. It represents unexpected change. None of those things are inherently good or evil by themselves. It's how they're interpreted that defines them."

"You do realize I'm consistently defined as evil, correct?"

"By those who don't understand you. By those who should have no say over you. How do you define yourself?"

He lifted his head and blew a strand of hair out of his face. "The same way? I don't know."

"Yes, you do know; you're allowing your stubbornness to take control again. My point is, if there's a Dark One of you, then that means there's a Light One of you. One can't exist without the other."

He bitterly laughed. "The light inside me died long ago."

"Has it?" She sat him up so she could face him. "You've made amends with Thor. You love Queen Frigga. You're so very kind and gentle with me. The light inside you hasn't died. You've balled it up somewhere, too. Loki, I need you to hear me."

"I am hearing you."

Both of her hands found either side of his face. "If you need me to be, I can be your Light One until you find it within you. We're together now. Don't be afraid to rely on me. Just as I can't be afraid to rely on you."

He searched her for a long time. Pressed his lips against her forehead. "I really don't deserve you."

"Everyone deserves to be with someone, if they choose companionship. We happened to have found each other."

"I'm fairly certain my mother had something to do with it."

"She's a goddess of love. She knows when two souls are destined to be together."

"I suppose you are right. Although, I do have a question. If you're my Light One, does that mean I'm your Dark One?"

Aura placed her hands in her lap, playing with her fingers. "You are capable of things I feel guilty for even thinking about. I suppose we do balance each other in that way. But it does lead me into of what I figured out that I would do with your powers."

A brow cocked mischievously. "Oh? And what's that?"

"I'm fairly certain I would kill everyone."

Blanking, Loki blinked a couple of times. "I beg your pardon?"

She adverted her gaze. "Not on purpose. I can't even imagine the amount of magic you possess. I know it can wear you out. You try hiding it, but I can see it in your eyes. If I could do anything just by thinking about it, I would accidentally kill someone. Maybe many people. And maybe it wouldn't be an accident."

"You've seen me, yes? I've killed many people. On purpose. I'm sure I'll kill more."

Her eyes dropped, and she rubbed her arms. "I have dreams. Dreams of setting everything on fire. And I just...I just stand above it all and do nothing but watch it burn and listen to people screaming. I don't like it, and I don't know how to fix it. Queen Frigga's been helping me with my magic, but I don't feel like I'm any better with it."

"Make a flame for me, please."

She held out a palm, fire coming up from the middle of it.

"Whatever I do, I want you to keep it going, okay?"

"But—"

"No buts."

Her lips thinned at the command she heard many times today. Loki was Queen Frigga's son, there was no doubt about that. "Very well."

He took her hand. Placed the fiery palm against the side of his face. Quietly laughing when she ceased up. "It's alright, love. You're not burning me. I feel heat, yes, but your subconscious doesn't want to hurt anyone. Do you remember our interaction in the Quinn jet? Even in your fire giant form, you couldn't hurt me. I think you found it frustrating."

She turned away. But kept the fire up, as he asked. "I don't like my fire demon form."

"Firstly, you're a fire giant, not a demon. Secondly, I don't like my frost giant form, either, so we have that in common." He closed her hand, letting her know she could douse the flame. "You're a good person, Aura. Don't ever question that. And you have far more control over your abilities than you think. I'm very proud of you."

"Well…" she wasn't sure what to do with his praise. "I like your frost giant form."

"Even if I'm in a fur loincloth?"

Her cheeks fiercely blushed. "Look! The fireflies are out." She hopped off the root and moved into the taller grass. Marveling at the beauty of the small, flying insects. Holding up delicate fingers for them to land on. Giggling when they rested on her dress and hair.

She soon left her embarrassment behind. Dancing and swaying in the grass. Spinning on her bare feet. Her immediate world consumed by the growing multitude of fireflies.

Loki rose to his feet, watching her relish in the magic of late dusk. A content smile on his face, and his hands clasped behind his back. He conjured a small square box in one hand, thumb caressing the gilded surface. Stepped forward. Then he stopped. Heart sinking. He wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with her, but he couldn't put her at more risk.

He knew she'd be even more paranoid, even more fearful. So long as Odin sat on the throne, she would never know peace. And he hated the Allfather for that. For causing so much strife in their relationship. Frankly, he hated Odin for everything. But until he found a way to permanently dispatch of Asgard's king, he couldn't stress out his beloved more.

The box vanished.

Resuming his usual demeanor, he swept across the ground. Grabbed one of her hands in his left and slid his right around her waist. Making sure it stayed in the appropriate position. "If it's all the same to you, I'll have this dance."

A broad grin squeezed her eyes shut as she followed his lead. Gliding through the grass, all of her cares left behind her.

Her left hand found the back length of her skirt, which she tossed from side to side as their lively dancing sailed them across the clearing. She twisted under his arm when he indicated. Spun out and back, the waterfall and night creatures their only song.

This continued until well after all of the stars revealed their shining glories, casting their smiles on the couple down below.

Aura's energy finally began diminishing. She twirled away from him one last time. Pleased by the gentle force of him pulling her back to him. She rested with her back against him and her arms crossed in front of her as he still held onto her hands.

Her head fell against him, and her eyes closed. Chest expanding and contracting rapidly. Swaying side to side with him, she caught her breath. "Thank you." She wistfully sighed. "Thank you for everything."

He pressed his lips against the side of her head, his own eyes closing. "Not everything is my doing, love."

"I don't care. You're my everything."

He smiled. "As you are my everything. I would trade every power in the universe for you. I love you so much. I love you more than anything."

"Loki?"

"Yes, love?"

"Can I...can I do something?"

"Of course."

She turned around. Looked up at him, searching his intelligent gaze. She stopped their gentle dancing. Slid a hand up his neck and cupped his jawline.

His brows knitted, and he pushed into her embrace.

Her words were barely above a passionate whisper. "I love you more than anything, too." In one swift movement, she pulled him down and stood on her tiptoes.

Instinctually, he took her head in both hands as he forgot everything around them. As her soft mouth met his. He couldn't contain himself. He desperately returned her affection, only taking short breaths of air, lest she disappear from him entirely.

She knotted her fingers in the gentle waves of his air. Leaning against him as he kept her supported. She barely breathed. All of the oxygen left her lungs with the passion she poured into him. As if she was giving him her very lifeforce. She supposed she was. The thought pressed her against him harder.

He didn't know if his mind played tricks with him or not, but he wasn't letting go. He wasn't stopping. He was afraid to. His arms enveloped her dainty frame. Her scent of fresh flowers as intoxicating as her lips. Every time he came up for air, he half-opened an eye. Just to make sure she existed in front of him.

Her hands found his tunic and buried themselves there. Her heart beat unevenly. Her stomach never stopped fluttering as the warmth of his mouth washed over her. She trembled with forbidden emotion. But she wanted him. She wanted him more than anything. And she let intuition run its course. Finally breaking free from his mouth, her lips found his heated neck.

He groaned low in his throat. Head tilting back, he sucked in air through his mouth. She had completely disarmed him. Made his body weak. He had never surrendered to anyone, but he would submit to her and any of her desires. His words came breathlessly. "Aura..."

She continued keeping him locked against her. Continued kissing his neck.

"Aura..." His eyes fluttered as another moan escaped him. He no longer had control of himself. His chest rose and fell erratically with his indecision. No. No, he could still control his actions. "Aura, please." A hand found the back of her head, and he gently turned her away from his exposed skin. "Don't do something you'll later regret."

Her breath hitched, stuck somewhere in the back of her throat. The concern in his rasped voice enough to pull her back into reality. She blinked a few times and let her forehead fall onto his chest. Every part of her shaking. Though, she didn't let go of his tunic. "Loki..."

"I'm here." He stroked the back of her hair. "I'm here."

"I can't, I can't feel anything."

A small exhale of a laugh. "Neither can I."

"I-Is that good?"

"Yes, love. Yes. Although," another panting laugh, "that was more than good."

She leaned her full weight against him. Rising and falling with the movement of his chest. "Tonight is the best night I've experienced."

"I agree."

Fear seized her, tensing her muscles and widening her eyes. "Do you, do you think anyone saw us?"

"No one saw us. Not even Heimdall. It's just you and I." He softly smiled. Tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear.

Her eyes darted over him before she relaxed. "I trust you."

He chuckled. "I'd say. It's nice to know that if you want something, you'll make sure you get it."

Crimson bathed her cheeks, and she found it hard to hold his gaze. "I don't know what came over me. I—"

He imparted a short, soft kiss upon her. "There's nothing to be upset over."

"But you mentioned something about regret."

"Maybe not the right choice of words, but I was caught up in a moment. Passion is a consuming entity. I just want you to be fully aware of what you're doing before you do it. That's all. I don't want you to do something you're not ready for or want to save for another time."

It took her a moment, but she nodded. "Thank you." She snuggled against him. Breathing in his pleasant scent. "I know we've technically kissed before, but I really feel like that was the first time."

"I'm willing to call it our first real kiss."

"Okay. I hate to, I really don't want to say this, and I really don't want our night to end, but that took all the energy I had left."

"I swear on my life this won't be our only night like this." He picked up her shoes. Swooped her off her feet. "We can ride the skiff back, but I'm at least teleporting us to it."

She chuckled and rested her head against his shoulder. "I'm not going to argue."

Loki checked around the pillar that separated them from the servants' quarters.

A handful of individuals entered and left, but the usual traffic was nonexistent.

Aura giggled, sneaking a peek with him. "Why are we being so secretive?"

"You're the one I worry about getting in trouble."

"I'm covered in two disguises."

One of his eyes narrowed as he looked at her. "That's not a lot."

She hung off his waist. "I'll be alright. There aren't many who work during the night anyway. They most likely haven't even noticed I've been gone for as long as I have. Not very many people notice me."

"I notice you."

"Well," she gave him a squeeze, "that's because you're you."

He grinned. "I'd hate to be anyone else. My life would be absolutely dull."

"Oh, here." She removed the butterfly pendant. "Can you give this to Queen Frigga for me, please? They know me as Sigyn here."

"Of course. Will you be alright from here?"

Her nose scrunched with her grin. "Of course."

Taking her hands and holding them close to his heart, he kissed her forehead. "Goodnight, love."

She closed her eyes. Enjoying the moment of standing with him. He still smelled of nature and water and air. Smelled of freedom. An eye opened for a glimpse of him. "May I see you tomorrow?"

A hand caressed her face as he smiled. "You can see me whenever you'd like."

"Okay. Goodnight." Gathering her shoes, she left the privacy that the pillar provided. Made it halfway to the servants' quarters before sprinting back to him. She stood on her tiptoes and pecked his cheek. Giggled. Ran back to the door. Calming herself, she exhaled a quick breath and opened the door.

Sjofn and many other handmaidens waited on the various cushions and divans in the relaxation space.

Aura froze just inside the door, eyes wide. "Hello?"

Brenna rushed forward. Took her hands and spun her around. "Sigyn, you wonderful maiden!"

Inge continued the dance. "You must tell us everything."

Jorunn and Kari joined in on the celebratory steps.

All of the maidens eventually surrounded the poor girl. Chatting and asking questions at the same time.

Sjofn rose from her designated divan. Clapped twice. "That's quite enough. Don't overwhelm her."

They bowed their heads and gave Aura space.

The secondary goddess of love drilled the one they knew as Sigyn. "But you can still give us the details."

Aura's head sunk between her shoulders. Flush creeping along her cheeks. "What's there to tell? It was only dinner."

This elicited a slew of disagreements. A few called for spilled secrets.

She slinked around the group, trying to reach her room. "We only had dinner and spoke at length with one another."

Sjofn's arms crossed. "Is he the light elf I saw you with earlier?"

Her eyes widened. Could she see through the disguise? Sjofn was one of Queen Frigga's closest friends; it made sense if she could see through her illusions. Or was allowed to see through them. "Yes. His name is, his name is Arantar." She squinted through the forced smiled of her lie. Then again, Arantar meant "noble king," and she did consider Loki to be her noble king.

Bright blue eyes intently searched the young maiden. Her demeanor relaxed, and she clapped again. "Off to bed, ladies. A new dawn approaches soon. We must present our best, no matter how tired we may be because we insisted on staying up so late."

Everyone groaned and protested while they made their way to their individual rooms.

Brenna yelled down the hall. "Did you at least kiss him?"

Aura bit her lip as she stopped the closing of her door. She leaned half of her head out. "Yes. I did kiss him."

Multiple heads emerged. Squeals and victory calls filled the corridor.

"Sleep!" Sjofn ordered from her head room.

Loki slammed both doors open to his mother's personal chamber.

Frigga and Thor stood at attention. Hiding the coins they counted at a table.

He lifted a brow. "I thought you weren't waiting up?"

The queen waved a hand. "Am I not supposed to take an interest in my sons? But speak. Something is clearly on your mind."

Marching forward, he placed the pendant on her desk. "Know this. When the time comes, there is nothing that will prevent me from killing Odin. Not even your magic will stop me."

She slowly straightened. Clasped her hands in front of her. "There are current rules—"

"When have I cared about rules? I have my own things in play. I will kill him. And you will be powerless to stop me."

Her eyebrows lifted as her lips thinned. "Powerless, you say? You intend on stripping my magic from me?"

Thor glanced between the others.

Loki sighed, massaging his temples. His intensity relaxed. "No. No, that's not what I meant. I failed before. I won't fail again."

Frigga remained quiet for some time. "Don't mistake me for a fool. I know the power you've released. I know what you consider tapping into for your success. That said, I don't want you to lose yourself in the process. If you give up your soul for the completion of your goals, you won't be the only thing you've lost."

His eyes lifted, and he hesitated. His mother was not wrong. She hardly ever was. But only one thing stood between his beloved and him. If he had to unleash the Dark One to be rid of that aging fool, so be it. Emerald magic flickered around him.

"One last thing."

He ceased the teleportation magic.

"Did you propose to her?"

"No. And I won't. Not until Odin is gone." He disappeared from his mother's chambers. Reappeared in his own, which was sealed off with numerous layers of runes and magic. He walked to his bed and braced himself on the footboard. Conjured the Dark One to physical form. Closed his eyes.

The inky body flickered and danced. Green eyes glowing. A wicked grin spread across its face. "This is nice."

"It's not permanent."

"Promises, promises." It slithered across the room. Pulling up in front of a wall covered in ideas scribbled on parchment, scribbled on the wall itself. "I see you've been learning Odin's latest runes against you. Learning them quite well. What is it that you need me for?"

Loki whirled around. "I don't need you, I..." He ran a hand through his hair.

The head swiveled like an owl's. "Go on."

"It's as I told Mother. I failed before. I will not fail again."

"I see. At least tell me you don't plan on killing him by stabbing him with one of those butter knives of yours."

His expression scrunched. "No. I'm not an idiot."

The Dark One dematerialized. Appeared directly behind him. "You're idiot enough to think you can control me without allowing me control. You could've slain him before, if you didn't insist on being so weak."

He didn't look at it. "I didn't summon you to guilt trip me. I only need your input on ideas."

"You could've summoned any of your egos for that. You could've given all of your personalities physical forms for that." It swirled around him until it stood in front of him. "But you choose me."

Hesitation. "Y-yes."

"Yes. Why? Because you're in love. Tell me. How desperate has that made you?"

Loki's gaze bore into the wall plastered with all the different ways he could wipe the Allfather from existence. "Very."
