Night
Evecalled out in the darkness to Modeste, "Modeste, I brung you some crawfish heads and turtle soup for your supper."
Most of the other wolves in the camp had either found somewhere to settle or had left to go home. Modeste had preferred to stay in the tent and talked about building a small shelter near the water.
Modeste usually popped out with a big smile and ate with Eve around the fire, but not tonight. Eve set down the pots she brought and took a peak into Modeste's tent.
"No, no, no, cher," Eva cried. She felt for a pulse, but knew the young beautiful wolf was gone. Eve looked for other injuries, but found none. It was almost as if Modeste had fallen asleep and never woken up. Then, Eve saw a red hair on Modeste's white t-shirt. There were no red haired wolves out here.
Eve knew she had to call for help, but as she turned, someone touched her from behind.
Eve saw the red-haired girl and went to push her away, but the girl was gripping her.
"What's wrong with you? I can't get anything. You are dry...like an old stick. Useless," the girl spat.
"Did you kill Modeste? How could you? She never hurt a flea! You had no right. Let me go," Eve shouted pushing harder now and breaking loose. To Eve's horror, the red head vamped to her and caught her.
"You're an untriggered Crescent, aren't you? That's something I've never seen from your murderous pack. Maybe I can't siphon your magic, but I could use a little drink," Dana laughed.
"I've never hurt anyone either. I spent my life helping any livin' creature out here. We just want to be free. What are you? That witch running around? I ain't no good to you, let me go so I can continue to do good," Eve pleaded. So many people depended on Eve right now. She couldn't give up her life that easily.
Dana tilted her head, "I suppose I could compel you..."
Eve breathed a sigh of relief, "Bless your heart. I got so many that I need to help..."
"But I will feed from you first!" Dana finished sinking her teeth into Eve and drinking deeply.
Eve felt the ripping sensation and then felt weak suddenly as if the hybrid was drinking a great deal of her blood quickly.
"Stop right there!" they heard a voice call.
Dana froze and turned.
"Apné sà mene
Apné sà mene
Apné sà mene..."
Freya was performing a boundary spell to lock in Dana to that area.
"Dana, I presume, why you are a picture of your sister. She sent us, do you know who we are?" Klaus said stepping forward.
Dana wiped a drop of blood from her mouth with her left hand.
"You're the Hybrid!" Dana trembled in shock.
"You say that as if you aren't one yourself, luv," Kol said stepping from the other side of the circle.
"Wh-who are you? Why did she send you? We had a plan? How's Penny? Is she okay?" Dana faltered.
"Penny is fine, better actually. She's very happy. She thinks Rachael is you, of course. That's the lie you planned to feed her, wasn't it," Klaus stated.
"I just needed to make sure she was okay and I need Rachael to be safe," Dana admitted shakily.
"How did you know we wouldn't rip her to pieces?" Kol countered.
"If you took in your enemy's children, I hoped you would be merciful to another type of enemy. There is something else I needed from Mystic Falls," Dana said. Dana laid down Eve on the ground. She was still breathing, but shallowly.
"We know you needed Guerrera blood, but there is no point opening the Guerreara tomb. The cure is a fake. It's always a fake. Let us heal Eve and we'll talk about it, Dana. No one else need die tonight," Marcel added bluntly.
"The son..., the one they call the King of New Orleans. my, I must be important to drag you all out of your fancy castles so late at night. I didn't need Guerrera blood to open the vault, I already had that from Penny. I needed something a lot harder to obtain, maybe if I let this woman live, we can make a deal?" Dana asked.
"Dana, we don't want to hurt you. Your sister has become a part of our family and we would like you to listen to reason and step away from Eve. You are a child and as my son will attest, we do not hurt children. Now, give us Eve before it is too late," Klaus said sternly.
"He's right. We don't hurt kids. Dana, I'm real sorry to hear about my happened to you, but let us help you," Marcel added.
"I need to get into the vault and soon. There is a celestial event coming up that I can't miss. Will you promise to help me?" Dana said eyeing Eve's form.
"Tell us what you want. What is so important about this vault to a teenage hybrid? It seems you value you thing over your own sister," Kol concluded.
"It that what you think? Let me tell you something, pretty boy, you don't know dick. Now, will you help me or do I have to snap her neck? She's untriggered, she won't heal. Just another dead pup to throw on the funeral pyre," Dana smirked.
"Young lady, I think you better rethink your position before it is too late. We are not giving you anything until we find out what is in the vault and why you want it so badly," Klaus growled.
"I simply need the blood of a Bennet witch, that's it. Just a teensy drop of say, Bonnie Bennett's blood. That's it," Dana smiled.
Freya had been silent up to this point, "A celestial event, the blood of a Bennett witch, and twins from the Gemini coven...Kol, what does that add up to you?"
Kol immediately said, "An ascendant. You're trying to get someone out of a prison world, aye? Who, luv? Another bloody siphon? And Bonnie doesn't just hand over her blood any quicker than we do ours."
Dana put her hand on Eve's neck dangerously.
Freya gasped, "Okay, stop! We'll talk to Bonnie, but you have to tell us who is in the ascendant. It takes a lot to get put in a prison world."
Dana backed away from Eve, "It's our brother, Kai Parker. They said he tried to kill the rest of our family in Seattle so he could be the leader of the coven. But I know my brother would never do that. And yeah, he's a siphon, too, just not a vampire."
"That doesn't make sense, darling. Why would they go through the trouble of sticking him a prison world when they wanted you dead?" Kol argued.
"Because he needs to merge with his twin Jo. She's not a siphon. They were trying to figure how a way to make sure that she would over power him, which is almost impossible. They framed him and stuck him in a prison world until they are ready for the merge. If they get to him before I do, it's too late," Dana cried out in frustration.
Klaus thought a moment and said, "So your parents had this Kai and Jo, then you and Rachael, and other children after?"
Dana laughed bitterly, "They need as many sets of twins as possible. The leaders of the Gemini have to come from a twin merge or the entire coven will die. I don't know how they got a Bennett witch to send Kai to the prison world, but if he doesn't get out...either we all die from no merge or Rachael and I did because Jo will send legions to kill us. We know that she is the true psychopath," Dana yelled.
Klaus thought about Cami's words earlier. He had to give Dana a reason to want to trust him.
"Dana, would you listen to me carefully a moment? You know you are a witch and I cannot compel you as such. However, I want you to look me in the eyes. I promised you, that if what you are telling us is true, my family will help you. Your sister pledged her loyalty to us in the hopes that we could save you. Can you trust me to give my word that we will help you? All we need you to do is let Eve and the other wolf go," Klaus said softly.
"The other wolf is dead," Dana pointed out.
Kol listened, "No, she's not, luv. Wolves have a remarkable capacity for healing. If you let us get to them, we can save them both."
Dana looked at Klaus and nodded, "I pledge my loyalty to your family. You may look into my heart and see the truth of my words."
Klaus nodded at Freya, "Freya will do it. Allow her free access and we will go from there."
Dana waited until the circle broke. Kol bit into his lip and vamped into the tent to heal Modeste. Marcel went to heal Eve.
Freya came near Dana and put her hands on the siphon vamp's head. She said some words and closed her eyes.
Seattle, Washington 1994
"Kai, Kai, come outside with us! We're going to play lightening tag," a young girl called to a eight year old boy with brown hair and sad eyes.
"Dana, hon, you girls go, Kai is going to study today," a man with gray at his temples said evenly.
"No, dad! I won't do it again. It was an accident. I'm not sure how it happened," the boy confirmed.
"It can't happen again, Kai. You could kill someone. You don't want to be a murderer as well as an abomination, do you?" the man asked.
"No, I don't want to hurt anyone," the boy revealed.
The girls watched silently the man lead the boy into a sparse basement room and locked him in.
Years passed and the boys was still in the room, he had no window to watch his many siblings play, he could hear them. Jo, his twin, would sit on the other side of the door chattering about things she did. He begged her to unlock the door or slip her fingers under so he could siphon some of her magic and escape.
"Oh no, Kai, we need to merge someday. We'll be 23 soon enough. Do you get scared in there? I bet it's lonely, huh. I guess I could let you out," Jo offered.
"Please, Jo, I'll do anything!" Kai begged
"Give me $100!" Jo teased.
"Jo, stop teasing me. It's been...what? Months, years? I lost track of time. What did I ever do to you? Please let me out," Kai begged pounding on the door.
Jo giggled, "Silly, all I need you to do is die! Daddy told me that I'd be a better leader than some abomination. I mean, you are a parasite. Since you are trapped...I'll tell you a secret. Dana's a siphon, too. I caught her the other day. Daddy was so upset he broke down and cried."
"NO! NO! Don't tell, Jo. This is hell. Death is better," Kai wept.
"There are going to sell her to these wolves down South. We'll get some protection her against our rival covens. I also think I'm going to kill Katie and Sadie. There is no need for us to have a pair of back up twins. If I get caught, I'll just frame...you. Ha, you said death is better. What do you say brother? You can finally get out of that room and go to the Other Side," Jo suggested.
"I'd do anything. Just spare the twins. Don't hurt them and I'll pretend like I tried to kill them. Anything to get out of this prison. But how could they kill me, if they need us to merge at 23?" Kai wondered.
"Oh, we can use a sleeping beauty spell. Easy. You wake up at 23, we merge, I win, you sleep forever, and your precious siblings are fine," Jo smirked.
Kai pounded the floor, "What are you doing this, Jo? So you're the leader? So what if half your family is dead..."
Jo was confused, "What don't you get, Kai? I always wanted to be an only child. But I'll stay my hand as long as you play ball, if you don't, I'll kill them all and there is nothing you can do to stop me. Never forget that my magic comes from the earth and your magic is only what you can beg, borrow, or steal from real witches. It's disgusting and the sooner, you are dead, the better, for all of us!"
"Jo! Wait, please don't go yet! Jo..." Kai screamed.
Freya lifted her hands and broke away.
"She's a nightmare!" Freya reported, "The sister Jo cannot be the leader, she is evil and a psychopath. Everything she said about her was true."
Klaus nodded, "So if you get your brother out of the ascendant, how do they merge?"
"It will happen on their 23th birthday. Kai would have been frozen at 16 and trapped in 1994. There are only a few prison world to choose from. After that, it would be keeping him safe from our family until the merge. He would be the victor unless they find a way to cheat. Jo was never a very strong witch to start with," Dana said bitterly.
Marcel helped Eve up after healing her. Modeste's eyes flickered and she seemed to have a reaction
"What's wrong with her?" Eve shouted.
Freya rushed over, "Maybe she lost too much magic. Niklaus, can you make her a hybrid?" Klaus wasn't sure if it would even work, but he was willing to try.
"No!" Eve begged, "Please, she'd rather die pure than be a hybrid. I know her, let nature decide her fate. I'll help nurse her."
They moved Modeste into Eve's shack to the bed and Eve got some swamp mud and other remedies. Freya tried a few healing spells, but nothing seemed to work.
Outside, Marcel asked Dana where the vault was.
"The Guerrera's hid it under one of their manufacturing and storage units in the Warehouse District," Dana revealed.
"Of course, hidden in plain sight, just like the Guerreras themselves. That area is filled with run-down and abandoned warehouses. Do we know exactly where," Kol spat.
Dana shook her head, "Maybe if I can use one of you as an anchor, I can use my own blood to find my brother."
"Not bloody likely," Kol retorted.
"Kol, come on. She trusted us, we need to give a little back," Marcel reasoned.
"Easy for you to say, Marcellus, when the siphon doesn't have to use you as a power source. I almost got mummified an hour ago, just trying to find this witch!" Kol bellowed.
"What? You are such an exaggerater," Marcel asked.
"Me? Are you bloody serious? That's the pot calling the kettle...Never mind, everyone takes your side anyway. Bloody baby," Kol fussed kicking a rocked away at his foot.
"Kol, stop it, you're the one acting like a child right now. For God's sake!" Klaus roared.
"Fuck off, Kol! If I didn't have to watch you night and day with my daughter maybe I wouldn't be so tense. I certainly can't trust you," Marcel spat.
"I've given you no reason to doubt me, Little Warrior. Too bad we couldn't settle this disagreement like gentleman!" Kol rebutted hotly.
"Kol, Marcel, stop. There will be no bloody dueling. If you both don't stop, I'm going to...,-" Klaus stopped realizing the red headed witch was staring at them stupefied. All three vampires stopped and stood there in tense silence for a moment.
Freya came out and noticed the tension, "Oh, not now. Modeste is weak. I'm not sure she's going to make it."
"I didn't meant to hurt her, but if I don't have magic, I can't do anything and I start draining my vampire magic," Dana confessed.
"We can teach you to control that, but it's not going to be easy. It takes a lot of self-discipline to stop drawing magic, just like a vampire has to stop drawing blood before the heart stops," Freya explained.
They filled Freya in on the plan to find the warehouse.
"Maybe Davina can help with that, I need to contact Bonnie and explain all of this. She might have to fly down here. Dana, let's call from the car," Freya said gently.
Kol, Marcel, and Klaus watched the two walking and talking.
"What do ya think, mates? Can we trust this vixen?" Kol asked.
"I think you're an ass," Marcel said to Kol.
"What? I almost got bloody drained at the Compound. Excuse me for not wanting it to happen again!" Kol glared.
"Gentleman, could we please not argue out here? But perhaps I need to have a long chat with both of you later," Klaus said pointing out the wolves gathering slowly.
"Let's get back to the Compound," Marcel said softly.
Kol fumed silently over Marcel's comments, but both keep quiet. Kol bounced his knee silently in the car and glanced at Klaus, but his mind seemed a million miles away.
Bonnie agreed to send her blood to Freya. She couldn't come down personally because Elena needed her with another crisis and she had to help with that.
Davina used Dana's blood to do the locator spell.
"So you killed the wolf girl?" Davina said in disgust.
"I didn't mean to, it was an accident!" Dana retorted.
"I'll try not to accidentally rip out your spleen when doing this spell," Davina smirked.
"Davina! You stop that right now," Marcel ordered, "Apologize."
"She's a freakin' murderer! Do you want me to do the spell or not?" Davina shrieked in rage.
Marcel smiled and grabbed Davina by the hand, "Excuse me while I speak to my daughter privately."
Marcel took Davina into Rebekah and his joint bedroom and shut the door.
"Really, Dad! Am I like five? How embarrassing!" Davina ranted.
"Have a seat!" Marcel said indicating the chair by the wall. Davina huffed and sat.
Marcel inhaled, "D., I appreciate you doing the spell, I do. However, when someone is a guest in our house, I expect you to treat him or her with respect. I know you saw something upsetting, but you don't really know the full story of what happened. Can you start over with Dana and be nicer?"
Davina glared at Marcel thinking of a hundred reasons why she shouldn't have to be polite.
Marcel suddenly grinned and said, "Please, D., for me?"
Davina tried not to smile, so hard that she began to laugh.
"Okay, fine. I'll be nicer, but for you, not because she deserves it," Davina insisted.
"Thank you, sweetheart. Do I get a hug or are you going to just rip out my spleen?" Marcel smiled.
Davina threw her arms around Marcel and hugged him tightly.
"I guess I was a little jealous of her. She's pretty and like her sister dresses like a sl,-" Davina stopped herself as Marcel gave her a warning glance.
"None of that, young lady. Now, you don't have to be her best friend, but just cool it, okay," Marcel said putting his arm around her. Kol was coming out of his room and ran almost smack into them.
"Hello, Davina. Marcellus, in a better mood?" Kol smiled.
Marcel shook off Kol's barb and they went back so Davina could perform the spell. Kol followed. After that got the location, Marcel got a cell phone call. They all knew it wasn't good new.
"I'm sorry to say that Modeste, didn't make it," Marcel said.
Dana crumpled to the floor, Kol caught her. Davina gave Marcel a pointed look, but he just put his arm around her.
Josh would represent the vampires to give their condolences, once again.
