"Spencer!" Loki hissed.
Spencer's foggy mind registered his words and felt hands shaking her gently, she let out a groan of pain. Her body hurt! Why did her body hurt? Spencer sat up, rubbing at her eyes, "What the fuck happened?" She asked before an awful stench wafted through her nostrils, "Fucking hell, what the hell is that god awful smell?" She cried out in horror, before her eyesight allowed her to see where the duo was.
It took her eyes a moment to register what she was seeing, they were surrounded by mountains of trash, just endless mountains of trash. Spencer's heart stuttered in panic before she met Loki's concerned gaze; his face had traces of pain. Spencer's eyebrows furrowed down in confusion before the flashback of Hela deflecting Loki's blade in the tunnel came back to her.
"You're hurt," Spencer recalled, "You took that blade for me, I'm so sorry," Spencer dusted her hands off and tried to stand up, but Loki placed his hand on her shoulder to keep her still.
"It would have killed you," Loki says plainly, as if it wasn't a big deal, "My wound already healed, just some nerves are still hurting," Loki looked around with a frown of disgust, "I do not recognize this planet," Spencer looked around too with a scowl, "There's a city," Loki pointed behind them, Spencer shifted to look, and saw a large city in the distance. "Can you feel this planet's life-force?" Loki asked her curiously.
Spencer cocked her head to the side as she stretched her fingers out; sending out a small wave of her own life-force to feel for this planet's life-force. There was nothing for a few moments, Spencer's brow furrowed down in confusion, and before Loki could ask what was going on, Spencer flinched violently.
A tidal wave of angry energy hit her.
A low groan escaped her lips as she held onto her head as the life-force of this planet attacked her! "Spencer? What's going on?" Loki demanded, grasping her shoulder's steadily.
"It's attacking me!" Spencer felt her life-force flare angrily in response, "You son of a bitch!" Spencer jumped onto her feet and pushed out her hands, "I'll show you to attack me!" Spencer felt feral with rage; her magic reacting violently against the assault of this planet's life-force. She felt the life-force trying to rush her again, she pushed back with her life-force, was content when her own abilities overpowered the violent life-force almost instantly.
She pulled her magic back, not wanting to harm the life-force, she just wanted to show this life-force who was stronger and that she meant no harm. Loki just watched from behind her with amused eyes. There was silence as Spencer stood waiting for this planet's life-force to come back to her. She felt a hesitant tug at her fingertips and resisted the urge to smirk.
"Everything alright?" Loki asked lazily.
Spencer turned to her companion, "Peachy," She responded breezily feeling the energy from this planet tugging at her fingertips, a little more insistent now. "What's our next move?" Spencer asked him.
Loki shrugged, "I'm not sure," He admits gazing back towards the city, "Probably best to travel to the city to get our bearings though," Loki glanced back at her, "What do you think?" He asked carefully, as if expecting her to argue with him.
Spencer, against her better judgement, trusted Loki.
Which could quite possibly be stupid, but he did take a blade to his back to protect her earlier. "I trust you," Spencer began quietly, "We can't do much right now," Spencer looked up to the sky, "I hope Thor is alright."
Loki and Spencer sped towards the city; Spencer was able to manipulate the ground to ride them towards the city; their legs encased with rock as the ground moved rumbled away to the city. "Do you always need the life-force of the planet to manipulate the elements?" Loki asked, curiously.
Spencer cocked her head; it was hard to hear him from the roar of the wind whipping around them. Spencer with a flick of her wrist created an air bubble around them; everything quieted now. "I don't think so," Spencer explained with a thoughtful look on her face, "It's easier if I have the permission of the Planet, but since I have some residue of Asgard and Midgard's life-force inside me, it's made it way easier to manipulate the elements. Right now, I'm not relying on the life-force of this planet," Spencer smirked wickedly, "It became timid after I showed it my strength, almost like a sulking child coming to its parents, it's becoming more insistent towards me, begging me to use them," Loki matched her smirk; they were similar in their petty ways.
"So, you're ignoring it?" Loki questions.
Spencer bobbed her head, "A lesson for attacking me," Spencer explained.
The made it to the out-skirts of the city. It was late in the afternoon, there weren't too many bodies in the streets. Loki glanced at Spencer, "Stay close to me," Loki warned her with a serious glare, "Thor would not forgive me if something happened to you," Spencer nodded to his words. Loki led the way to a vendor who was closing up their stall; Spencer tried not to gawk. Her mind was barely registering that she was on an alien planet, standing in front of her was an alien, and Loki was casually speaking to them. Spencer took in their skin color, their body, and their single eye.
She wasn't sure how she should be feeling at that moment; sad, perhaps? Perhaps she felt sad because instead of being home with her friends, she was here on this alien trash planet. Angry? Perhaps she was angry that the reason this was happening in the first place was because of Loki? Then again, Odin did lie to the both of his sons.
Loki glanced at Spencer; seeing her young face contorting with many emotions, and it dawned on the Asgardian Prince that this situation they were in was relatively new to her and might be overwhelming her. Loki continued his conversation with the person he had been speaking to, before gently taking Spencer by the arm and leading her away.
"We are on a planet called Sakaar," Loki murmured to her gently, guiding her further into the city center, "To be frank, I have never heard of this planet," Loki has this strange look on his face, "For the time being, we need to find money, get somewhere safe, and figure out how to leave this planet."
Spencer clenched her backpack, that had been glued to her back this entire time, "I just have my paintings of Asgard," Spencer mumbled, "And trinkets from there, too."
Loki hesitated as he did not want to part Spencer from her items, "You can find valuable resources for us to trade," Loki suggested, taking a moment to step to the side to speak with another vendor. The conversation only took a few seconds before Loki was guiding Spencer away again, "Metals," Loki told her, "And gems are extremely valuable on this planet, there isn't much vegetation here, and a lot of the buildings are built out of scrap metals. If we were to acquire some we would be set for a few days."
Spencer glanced around warily, "Then let's find a secluded area," She suggested to her companion.
Loki nodded, glancing around and began pulling her down a dark alleyway. It was a short walk to a small, tucked dead-end, Loki was confused but glanced at Spencer questioningly. Spencer looked up at the surrounding buildings, most of the windows were dark, the young woman shrugged and plopped down on the dirty floor. Loki scowled at her in disgust, "That isn't sanitary, Spencer," Loki remarked quietly.
She shrugged and hovered her hand above the ground in front of her; she called for the Sakaar's life-force, and it took a few seconds for a timid hum to brush at her fingertips. She smiled softly and felt the energy surged through her quickly; Sakaar's life-force was sharp and jagged as it wafted though her body; Spencer flinched from it naturally, but after a few seconds, Sakaar's life-force settled within her body.
"Prickly," Spencer mumbled to Loki, who had been watching.
Spencer exhaled and closed her eyes; she sent out waves of energy to feel for valuable resources deep within the planet. She found plenty of untouched metals and gems, since the metals were a bit harder to pull from the ground, Spencer opted to pulled at the gems.
The ground below Spencer trembled the slightest bit; Loki kept guard.
Slowly, a decent sized hole appeared a few feet away from Spencer and a few seconds later, decent sized gems were being pushed out by little earth-moles that Spencer created from the strong metals deep in the planet. Spencer opened her eyes and more and more gems were pushed out of the hole.
"I think that's plenty, Spencer," Loki says.
Spencer smiled and willed her little metal moles to retreat, and the hole was gone. There were an assortment of large gems, no bigger than Spencer's hands, but they would fetch a decent price. Spencer pushed a large gust of wind through the dead-end, watching as a few random cloths float down, she snatched one out of the air, and manipulated the natural materials into a small bag.
Loki dropped the gems into the bag and Spencer tucked it away in her backpack. The duo moved back from where they came onto a main street and Loki led them to the center of the city; there were a lot more bodies piled in the city center. Spencer was trying her best to commit everything to memory, wanting to paint this for future purposes.
It took them about an hour or two to sell the gems to an excited buyer; the buyer telling them about an open residence in a high-end apartment complex. They made a lot of money off the gems, so much money or units as the currency was on Sakaar. The buyer gushing that they would tell their clients about us and if we supplied them with even more gems, they'd be set for the rest of their lives.
Spencer just wanted to collapse onto a bed, she was tired and hungry. A lot had happened today, she needed time to process everything that had happened. Loki saw this and hurried them to the building to see about renting this apartment. The building was east of the city center, shiny buildings made of expensive metal and not scrap metal. It didn't take long for Loki to fill out some paperwork, pay the units needed to buy not rent the apartment suite, and the employee showed them to their new home.
Their apartment was on the fourteenth floor, the employee gave them their keys and bid them goodnight. "Home sweet home," Loki sighed in relief as he opened the door and the apartment lit up, despite being an asshole who murdered her father and people, Loki was a gentleman and let her walk into the apartment first.
Spencer just stared at the sleek modern design; nothing like back home. Colors that made no sense covered the entire apartment, but at least it was clean and didn't smell like oil or rusted metal. The kitchen was large and the living room overlooked the vast mountains of trash of Sakaar. In the sky, it was when Spencer noticed the portals dropping in trash without pause.
"Are you alright?" Loki asked her as Spencer plopped down on the couch.
Spencer bobbed her head tiredly, "Very tired," She muttered, her eyes feeling heavy, "Hungry, too." Her stomach was giving off hunger pains, but she was so exhausted that all she wanted to do was sleep.
"You should rest," Loki said watching as Spencer curled up on the couch without another word, "I have some time before it gets too dark I plan to use that time to figure out a way off this planet," Spencer hummed in response, "Will you be alright on your own?" Loki questioned.
"I'm stranded on an alien planet," Spencer mumbled grumpily.
Loki nodded at her words, "Please, try not to leave the apartment, I doubt you'll be awake by the time I come back, but if you do wake before I get back, do not leave," Loki was strict with his words, and Spencer being too drained to argue but muttered a sleepy aye, aye captain.
Loki wasn't even out the door before Spencer knocked the heck out.
When Spencer woke up, there was a fur blanket shielding her from the coldness of the apartment. She was confused before realizing that Loki most likely covered her when he got back from his little trip. Given Loki's history, Spencer was surprised by how attentive he was being. His excuse being that Thor would murder him if Loki didn't take care of her, but it was strange seeing Loki so...human?
Despite this, Spencer felt grateful towards her companion; although eventually there needed to be a discussion about their past history. Spencer had questions and Loki had the answers. Spencer got up from her spot on the couch and her eyes immediately caught the strange fruits on the counters in the kitchen. Her stomach growled at the sight of potential food, so, she got up and stumbled over to the counter.
It was then that she noticed that she wasn't wearing her armor anymore, but comfortable Asgardian clothing. She cocked an eyebrow, unsure how to feel about Loki using his witchcraft magic on her while she was asleep, but shrugged it off. The fruits look nowhere near similar to the ones on her home planet, but she was hungry as hell, and she doubted that Loki would give her food that could kill her.
Then again, could her human body handle alien food?
Spencer peered at the fruit for a few moments and shrugged. She took her time picking out a fruit to try; it was a very important decision at the moment! Life or death! Quite literally life or death if her human body couldn't digest this planet's fruits.
Spencer picked up a yellow and blue star-shaped fruit with smooth fuzzy skin, eyed it for a few minutes, and decided to just bite the bullet. Spencer chomped down, and her eyes widen in surprise as sweet, fleshy nectar poured into her mouth.
"Oh, that's good!"
And thus Spencer went on a frenzy and ate all the fruit that Loki had bought them. After devouring all the weird-looking fruit, Spencer decided to walk through the apartment since her backpack wasn't in the main living room. There were two bedrooms, one on either side of the apartment, with the large living room and kitchen sandwiched in between. Spencer wasn't at all surprised that Loki claimed the bigger bedroom, she just rolled her eyes. Sometime between Spencer falling asleep and Loki running his errands, he must have taken a small respite in this room because the bed wasn't made.
Spencer didn't bother snooping through his things; that was downright rude.
Spencer closed the door to the master bedroom and padded across the living room to the other room, she slowed as she realized the view from the balcony. A part of her felt like she didn't Sakaar very much, the city was immensely large and for her felt very claustrophobic. There were just endless buildings of metal in every direction; a part of her wondered how much work it would cost to destroy this city of metal with her abilities. She hasn't tested that out yet, it was such a momentous task she doubted she could at this stage.
Spencer only had less than eight months with these abilities; while she could do a lot of cool shit, she doubted she could bend an entire city of metal to her whims. Would it deter her? Maybe.
She continued on to her room and there she found her backpack. The bed looked inviting, it looked to be a queen and had a beautiful frame around it. Even though Spencer had just waken up, her body still felt fatigued, and her mind felt a bit groggy. How long was I even asleep for? Spencer wondered as she reached for her backpack.
Leaving the apartment was not going to happen; regardless of her confidence in her powers, she was on an alien planet, and she wasn't confident that she wouldn't somehow get lost or potentially attacked. Had these creatures seen a human before? It wouldn't be strange if they hadn't, considering how primitive Earth was compared to Asgard and even here.
Regardless, she wasn't sure she trusted this planet's occupants.
So, Spencer hauled out some easels, the expensive paints Thor and Sif gifted her, and took to the balcony to ease her mind with some painting. At the thought of Thor, she felt her heart flutter with anxiety and worry about her friend. What was happening in Asgard right now? Was Thor even alive?
Flashbacks of Mjölnir being destroyed flickered through Spencer's mind; Hela crushed Mjölnir with her bare hand as if Mjölnir was made out of cheap metal. Thor would be devastated...if he was even alive.
Spencer shook her head; No, she had to have faith in her friend.
Spencer wasn't sure how much time had passed; the concept of time on Sakaar felt different to her. The sun had been high in the sky when Spencer woke up, but now it was dipping below the horizon and letting the night wash over the metal city. Spencer heard the front door open, she twisted her body towards the inside of the apartment and saw Loki coming in.
His wicked green eyes met hers; she offered a grin and set down her brush to greet him. He was wearing leathers now, but as soon as he dropped dinner on the kitchen counter, his leather clothing shimmered away to be replaced with Asgardian lounge-wear. "You sleep like the dead," Loki began the conversation, "You were asleep for the entire day."
Spencer paused her walking with a wide-eyed look, "Seriously?"
Loki bobbed his head, "I thought your body had gone into shock when you didn't wake up yesterday," Spencer tried not to smirk at the thought of Loki panicking over her, "I see you ate all the fruit and didn't die." He observed.
Spencer cocked an eyebrow, "Were you half-expecting the fruit to kill me?"
Loki shrugged pulling out food from the fancy boxes, "I don't know what Midgardian bodies can handle," He was being sarcastic, "I just hoped for the best when I bought these. Fruits are a luxury here on Sakaar," Loki's voice turned thoughtful, "Come to think of it, there isn't a lot of vegetation or natural animals on this planet," His eyes drifted down the food on the counter that Spencer was staring at with a hungry expression.
"So, where do they get the meat?" Spencer mumbled with a furrowed eyebrow.
Loki and Spencer glanced at each other.
"Perhaps we should simply stick to the fruit?" Loki saw the greenish look on Spencer's face.
Spencer bobbed her head, "Unless we can be reassured that the meat on this planet isn't from alien people," She muttered with a scowl.
Loki moved the intercom at the front door, "I shall ask the woman downstairs, she seems somewhat competent." Loki said with a frown.
Spencer continued to poke and prod the dinner that Loki brought; it looked like high-quality food, and it was packaged handsomely. Loki had not spared any expense nor should he, the duo had a giant chunk of units in their name-well, in her name. All the transactions had been made to Spencer's account, and yes, they also visited what Spencer called a bank so that Spencer could set up her own account for units, but the young Midgardian woman asked for a joint account instead.
It was really weird when you thought about it. Spencer had opened up a joint banking account with Loki; the God of Mischief, and bought an apartment with him. Spencer shook her head with a soft laugh at how humorous this situation really was.
"It's all safe to eat," Loki's smooth voice startled Spencer from her thoughts, "A lot of the meat is synthetic meat, but this is real meat from livestock off the planet," Loki cocked his head to the side, "I suppose that's why it was so expensive."
Spencer didn't even hesitate; she shoved a delicious look roll into her mouth.
Loki's eyes went wide with how quick Spencer moved, "You do know it's still dangerous to eat this food, right?" Loki told her as if she were a child and he a parent.
Spencer chewed her food; it was delicious.
That was all Spencer needed to know.
Dare Spencer say out loud that this food was better than Midgardian food? This was heavenly and considering the shit-bucket of a town they were in, Spencer was definitely surprised. Loki was gauging her reaction with an amused look; he, too, realized this was all new to her and was amused by her child-like excitement.
"If I die," Spencer swallowed her food and picked up another roll, "From this," She waved the roll in the air, "I would die happily." She concluded dramatically.
Loki rolled his eyes with a light chuckle, "You're very strange, Spencer Coulson."
"So, are you, Loki," Spencer smirked shoving the roll into her mouth, "We also need to have a therapy session about you killing my father," Spencer mumbled in an unladylike way.
Loki scrunched up his face, "Do we really? What is there to speak about?"
Spencer deadpanned; Was there anything to speak about? Loki's plans and actions had always been somewhat transparent. For Loki, it hadn't meant anything to kill her father. Her father had been in the way and Loki took care of him, there was no hidden meaning in that Spencer realized.
Spencer chewed her food slowly before swallowing, "Maybe not about killing my father," Spencer relented, "But what about you saving me?"
Loki was preparing a plate of food for himself, "I could not imagine dying the way you almost did," Loki responded honestly which surprised Spencer, "To be blunt, I'm not sure why I felt so compelled to save you," Loki didn't shy from Spencer's piercing gaze, "Do you resent me for saving you? That out of every powerful being in this galaxy, it was me, the killer of your father, that saved you?" Loki questioned bluntly.
Spencer stared at Loki and shook her head, "I only reserve hate for those who truly deserve it," Spencer responded, "Granted, I wanted to kill you for killing my father and mind-fucking my adopted father, Clint, but after all was said and done, I saw the way they had you muzzled, and all I could feel towards you was pity," Loki didn't flinch away from her words nor did he look angry.
Spencer continued, "At one point, I realize you could betray me like you've done to Thor countless times," Loki had the decency to look sheepish, "If it happens, it happens," Spencer shrugs, "But for the most part, I'm thankful you saved me, Loki. Regardless of what you've done, you chose to save the stupid little mortal and in turn you saved the suffering of my friends and family, and to me that means the world to me,"
Spencer offered him the delicious roll in a peace offering, "Life has a twisted sense of humor," She murmured as Loki tentatively took the food roll, "I try not to read into it too much," Loki popped the food into his mouth; a look of appreciation for the taste overcame his face, "Amazing, right? It's shocking, especially considering the shitty place we're in," Spencer snorted.
Loki and Spencer ate in relative silence.
It wasn't until Spencer was trying some weird stew that Loki offered her that Loki spoke up, "Do you think Thor's alive?"
Spencer didn't pause as she lifted her spoon to her mouth; she had been worrying about Thor the whole day, "I have faith in him," Spencer trailed off for a few seconds, "As for Asgard and your people," Loki and Spencer locked eyes; Hela would kill those who refused her rule, "Let's hope we can find a way off this planet soon," Spencer murmured gently.
Loki had a strange expression on his face before he schooled his face into a calm mask, "Yes, I'm hoping I can find more information on how to get off this planet soon," Spencer acted like she didn't hear the weird tone in his voice, "I heard of someone called the Grandmaster, he apparently rules over this city and I plan to gain his favor."
Spencer ate the weird stew; it was good, perhaps a bit sweet for her taste, but Spencer couldn't help but feel that Loki was up to something and wasn't telling her what. She hoped it didn't involve somehow killing her.
