Immediately after I pressed they (YES) option, my screen went white and after a few seconds, I was greeted with the Fallout 4 standard loading screen. I spun the T-45 Power Armor model around while spamming the button that turns the model into a green hologram. On the lower left corner of my screen was a tip.

Did you know, shooting or hitting an enemy with your weapon kills it?

I gave a short chuckle at the rather obvious tip. Another solid ten seconds pass and I start to get worried and think that maybe trusting an anonymous person online was a bad idea-

"Oh, it actually loaded in." I said, cutting my line of thought as the loading screen finally disappeared and replaced with a white screen.

Color bled back into my eyes as I registered where my character has been transported to. The first thing that noticed is that I spawned in a rather quiet street, the second is the lack of post-apocalyptic theme around the place. Using my mouse, I looked around my immediate area and notice that rather than the post-World War 2 architecture that you would normally see in the Fallout franchise, most of the buildings that surround me are more akin to the buildings of the current year. Which surprised me a little, considering that the mod creator probably had to create the models for each of these house templates from scratch.

Props to him

As I admired the buildings, not a second too soon, a quest was shoved to my screen.

Main: Not in Kansas no more

Look for any sign of direction

A marker popped up in my compass telling me that I should go a little way southwest. Shrugging my shoulder, I pressed the 'W' key and proceeded to move Lyra Bodewig forward. As I walked down the empty street, I continued to admire the buildings, it certainly is a weird feeling to see something that does not fit in the world of Fallout. Not that I am complaining, I am slowly starting to respect the mod maker for modelling new kinds of buildings rather than just using the templates that vanilla Fallout already has.

Moving past my interest with the buildings in this mod, it seems like I am closing in on my objective. Looking straight down the road, I noticed that the marker on my compass is pointing towards a two-story house. When I reached 100 meters from the house, something other than houses caught my attention. A shriek from what I assume is coming from the second floor of the house. I sprinted my way down the street, past the gate entrance of the house and in front of the door. A prompt to pick the door's lock at a difficulty level of advanced was shown to me and I wasted no time, after fuddling with the lock, I opened the door. I barely had enough time to look around the house and only walked down a hallway that had stairs leading up to the second floor. Walking up the stairs, another hallway greeted me but this time at the end of the hallway, I see a rather grotesque looking individual wearing a bloodied business shirt.

I quirked my eyebrow at creature and turned on my V.A.T.S. to see what kind of creature it is.

Zombie

100/100

"Seriously? The entire mod is a zombie apocalypse-like DLC?" I muttered to myself.

The zombie itself was reaching through a hole in a door that I assume it broke because past that door, I could hear the shrieking. However, as soon as we locked eyes, its initial objective was put on halt. Pulling, or much rather, dragging its hand out of the hole in the door, it shambled its way to me. Seemingly unimpressed with how slow the zombie is, I took my time choosing which weapon I will be using to kill it. If there is one thing you must know about me, is that I hoard most of my weapons. Thank Todd Howard that bullets do not weigh at all. Pressing the tab button, I was expecting everything to pause only to raise my eyebrow when I could still hear the groaning of the zombie getting closer and closer.

Dropping my Pip-boy, I decided to pause the game entirely.

Time freezes

"So, time doesn't freeze when I check my Pip-boy. This mod leans a little more into realism, I can dig this." I mutter to myself. As I un-paused the game

Understanding now that time does not freeze, I decided to just rely on the weapons that I have on my hotkeys. I pressed '1' on my keyboard and I pulled out my favorite pistol, The Deliverer. Why is it my favorite? Well, let us be honest, while Fallout 4 is wonderful, not a single weapon that they had could be called unique. It is just the same gun plastered with a legendary effect along with a 'cool' name. Amidst all of the weapons, The Deliverer stood out to me the most due to its unique design and the fact that it is one of the few weapons that reminded me of a real life weapon, the Russian Makarov pistol.

Aiming at the zombie's head, I clicked my mouse and shot my gun. The hallway lit up bright for a short moment before it returned back to its usual brightness. The walking corpse landed just below my feet and only now do I see how detailed the corpse is. Impressive, I could see the hole where the bullet exited. My impressions further increased when I heard the quick sloshing sound of a wet boot courtesy of the pooling blood coming from the truly dead corpse. Stepping around the body, I looked through the door and spot a rather terrified and trembling teenage girl wearing her pyjamas.

Airi Nakamura

"Please… go away…"

"Hey, this mod maker cared enough to hire voice actors."

Once Airi had finished her dialogue, my own set of lines appeared, nothing out of the ordinary.

1. "Calm down, do not worry. It is safe now."

2. "Suit yourself, I'm not going to waste my time here."

3. "Are you alright?"

4. "Since you said 'please'."

Hm… let's go with option one.

"Calm down, do not worry. It is safe now." My character, Lyra Bodewig said.

Airi slowly looked out of the door, and we locked eyes and with a trembling voice, she asked. "Who are you?"

1. "I am Lyra Bodewig, what is your name?"

2. "Why don't you tell me your name first?

3. "You don't need to know my name."

4. "I'm Jangles the Moon Monkey."

Oh wow, okay, this mod bothers to mention the character's name and not just 'The Sole Survivor'. Option one it is!

"I am Lyra Bodewig, what is your name?"

"A-Airi… Nakamura Airi"

My eyebrows raise in surprise when I notice the screen faded into black and slowly faded back in, a cutscene! Something that none of the Fallout franchise did, understandably so, the only time they did cutscenes is during the beginning and the end of the game. So, this function definitely got my attention.

"Nakamura, are you hurt?" I asked gently.

"No… I-I don't know what is happening. Just a few hours ago, dad was normal. And then… and then he…" Airi explained, slowly coming to a sob.

I gingerly open the broken door and slowly approach the crying teenage girl. I urged her to sit on her bed; a thick pink blanket covered the feminine designed bed, she gingerly sat down, wiping her tears using the cuffs of her pyjama's sleeves. Uncomfortably, I placed my hand behind her back and that is when her dam broke. Tears streamed out as she leaned on my weathered clothes, her sobs were muffled as I hugged her close to my chest, all the while I kept on repeating the mantra 'it's over now'.

A couple of hours has passed since her sobbing, at this point she is just starting to calm down. She slowly raised her head so that her eyes could meet mine. As her name suggested, she looked Japanese. She had narrow, dark brown eyes, a small nose, and a relatively normal sized quivering mouth. Without any warning, I grabbed both of her shoulders and told her carefully.

"Airi, what I am about to tell you will hurt but it is the truth." I paused for a moment. "Whatever I just killed out of your room, that wasn't your father anymore."

Airi held her breath and paid close attention to my words.

1. "Something is happening, not just here but whatever this thing is it is affecting the entire world."

2. "Your father died a while ago, what was left behind is a monster." (Charisma 10)

3. "There is a terrible virus that is spreading across the city that is turning people into these monsters when bitten." (Intelligence 8)

4. "Do you want to come with me?" (Charisma 7)

Oh cool, some choices. Hm… how about option 3. Thank Todd Howard I maxed out Lyra.

I look at Airi dead in her eyes. "There is a serious virus that is spreading across the city that is turning people into these monsters when bitten."

A look of realisation appeared on Airi's face; a sorrowful look followed after. "So, what you're saying is…"

"Unfortunately, that could be the case. I don't know how long it will take for one person to turn but I'm going to guess that it depends on their consciousness."

"How do you know this?" Airi asked.

1. "I've seen it happen before." (Charisma 7)

2. "I don't, I am just guessing."

3. "I assume that if a person is unconscious the virus would spread faster, making them turn faster compared to being awake." (Intelligence 10)

4. "I've watched enough zombie movies to know how it happens."

Option 3

Lyra paused for a moment to think hard. "I assume that if a person is unconscious the virus would spread faster, making them turn faster compared to being awake."

"I… I see." Airi said.

"Aside from this, I have to ask you one more thing."

Airi tilted her head in confusion.

"Will you come with me? Safety in numbers. Aside from that, I have no idea where to go from here."

There was a hint of hesitance in Airi's face. "We could go to my school. It's not far from here."

"Alright. Let's go to your school."

Standing up from the bed, I reached out a hand for her to take. Reluctantly, she took my hand, and I gave her a soft smile. Leading her out of her room and out of the hallway. I heard her squeak softly as she spotted the corpse of her father. When we reached the first floor of her house, I turned to her.

"It's not safe out there. You need a weapon to protect yourself."

"Okay…" She muttered softly.

"Do you know how to use a gun?" I asked her.

She shook her head. "I have my baseball bat."

I nodded. "Okay, go and get your bat and I'll wait here for you."

She nodded before heading back upstairs, presumably to take her baseball bat. A couple of minutes pass and she comes back down, instead of wearing her pajamas, she's now wearing denim jeans, a pink and white striped shirt tucked in her jeans and her hair is tied up to a bun. Wrapped around her hands and close to her chest is her wooden baseball bat.

"Ready?" I asked.

She gave me a short nod before I turned around and walked towards the door with her in tow. We took a moment for her to wear her sports shoes which were left in front of the door. Once that was done, I grabbed the handle and opened the door.

The screen faded to black telling me that the cutscene was over.

A rather long chapter 2 but I don't mind. I'd prefer to take the progression of this story rather slowly. Compared to my Terraria x RWBY story, this one is going to follow the canon events of the anime. Not the manga, the anime, as I have not yet read the manga nor the light novel.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Been a while since I've written so I would prefer if you, my fellow readers, could scrutinize my work and give me your opinion. Any feedback is appreciated as it will help me improve on my writing skills. Other than that, I have nothing else to say, perhaps share your thoughts and probably some ideas on how our wasteland survivor Lyra Bodewig is going to tackle the events of Highschool of the Dead.

That is all I have to say and without further ado, I bid you all adieu.

Peace~

PS: Exams start tomorrow :(
