Feudal Diaries:
Promise
Inuyasha © Rumiko Takahashi
Summary- When he made a promise, he never goes back on his word. For InuKag Week 2021.
A cough racked her chest, causing her to gasp as tried to catch her breath. Her whole body felt hot and cold all at once as she lied in her bed, her forehead covered in a damp cloth in order to get her fever to go down. Her nose was so stuffed up that she swore that her whole skull felt clogged.
And all because she lost her umbrella back in the Feudal Era.
Kagome let out a mixture of a sigh and whimper put together. She felt utterly miserable. She was thankful she didn't have any big exams today, but still, she hated just lying in bed like this. Her mother was downstairs, making her a nice hot bowl of soup to help her feel better, and Sota was in his room, doing his homework. The house was pretty quiet, so Kagome was thankful for that, at least... but sometimes, the quiet got a little boring. Not to mention... a bit lonely.
As Kagome tried to will herself to fall asleep in spite of her headache, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching her door.
"Kagome, it's Mom. I've got some soup for you."
"Thanks, Mom," Kagome said with a sniffle as Atsuko entered the room, holding a bowl of soup in her hands.
"That's not all, honey," Atsuko said. "Someone's here to see you."
Kagome sat up slightly, wondering who could possibly be here to visit her since Hōjō already came by with a gift basket of fruits and one of those health charms, but as she got a closer look, she felt her swell with delight as she saw that it was none other than her favorite half-demon.
"Yo," Inuyasha greeted as he walked into the room, arms folded inside his sleeves as usual.
"Inuyasha," Kagome said in a stuffed-up voice. "You're here to see... ah... ah... ACHOO!" She let out this (rather cute) sneeze before she reached over to grab a tissue and blew her nose, then tossed it into her waste bin with a miserable groan.
"So, this is why you didn't show up, huh?" Inuyasha asked as he sat on the bed with her.
"Yeah... sorry," Kagome replied, meekly.
"I swear," Inuyasha muttered, "you weak humans and your sicknesses."
Kagome couldn't help but smile just a little. Even if he was acting snarky, she knew that it came from a place of concern.
"So how long do you think you're gonna be sick?" Inuyasha inquired.
"It could be a couple of days," Kagome answered, her voice hoarse due to her sore throat. "Maybe three."
"I see," Inuyasha mused. "In that case, I guess I'll just stay here with you until you're better."
"Aww, how nice," Atsuko cooed, endearingly.
"Inuyasha, that's okay," said Kagome. "You don't have to-"
"Don't say another word," Inuyasha interjected, causing her to shrink back a bit. "Listen, Kagome... I promise, I'm gonna stay here and take care of you, you got that?"
Kagome's eyes went wide before a soft smile creased her lips.
"Oh, Inuyasha..." she whispered. "Thank you."
"Keh!" Inuyasha scoffed, his cheeks turning slightly pink. "Whatever..."
