At the Owl House, Luz, Emily, and Amelia were sitting in the living room listening to King give a lecture about demons.
"Demons like me are powerful creatures who live only chaos and misery", King said, "our only weaknesses are purified water and passive-agressive comments."
"Oh, you guys are sensitive", Luz said.
"Even demons have inner demons", King said, "and..."
Before King could finish, the sound of thunder echoed all over.
"Uh-oh", Amelia said, "sounds like rain."
"I'll go tell Eda to put up a shield", Emily said.
Emily hurried away to find Eda, and Luz heard a noise.
"Did you hear that", Luz said.
"Hear what", Amelia asked.
"I heard something", Luz said.
"It was probably just the wind", Amelia said.
"I don't think so", Luz said, "it sounded like an animal."
They heard the noise again.
"It's coming from outside", Luz said.
Luz opened the door and went outside, and found a small dragon lying on the ground.
"Oh my gosh", Luz said, "a dragon!"
Luz quickly grabbed the dragon and went back into the house, and Eda put a force field around it just as it started to rain, and a little later, Luz was caring for the dragon, when Melissa walked in and noticed what she was doing.
"What are you doing, Luz", Melissa asked.
"I found a baby dragon outside and rescued it", Luz said, "I think it might be hurt."
"A dragon", Melissa asked, "let me see."
Melissa inspected the dragon, and when she noticed an interlock on one of its feet, she realized something.
"Luz", Melissa said, "this is not a dragon."
"It's not", Luz asked.
"Well, I guess it kind of is one", Melissa said, "but this creature is actually a palisman."
"A what", Luz asked.
"A palisman", Melissa said, "creatures carved from branches of palistrom trees that help witches and act as partners to them."
"That's right", Eda said, "Owlbert is my palisman, and this here is your aunt's palisman, Jinx."
Eda set a black cat palisman down on the table, and it made its way over to Luz.
"Hello", Jinx said, "pleased to make your acquaintance."
Jinx's unexpected line of dialogue made Luz jump in surprise.
"A talking cat", Luz said, "what's next?"
Some time later, Eda had fallen asleep, and everyone helped her to their nest, and afterwards, Luz decided to ask Emily a question.
"Hey, Emily", Luz said.
"What's up", Emily asked.
"I was wondering", Luz said, "do you have any other relatives?"
"Well, I do have an aunt", Emily said, "and a cousin named Heather."
"What's she like", Luz asked.
"Kind of like me, backstory-wise", Emily said, "my aunt found her when she was a baby and took her in as her own."
Before Emily could say anthing else, the lights went out, much to everyone's surprise.
"What happened to the lights", Luz asked.
"Looks like they went out", Emily said, "I bet something made the power go out."
"Maybe it was a Snaggleback", King said, "that's the most powerful demon of all."
"Well, whatever did it, we'd better go find it", Melissa said, "let's go."
Everyone began looking through the house for the creature that caused the blackout, and while looking through the hallway, Luz noticed a large, winged beast standing before her, and the others caught up to her and looked at the beast as well.
"Oh no", Melissa said.
"Guys", Luz said, "what is that thing?"
The beast then let out a loud roar.
"Duck", Melissa shouted.
Melissa and the other got down on the floor as the beast jumped by them, and they all got up once it went by.
"To answer your question, Luz", Melissa said, "that thing is Eda."
"Eda", Luz asked, "how can that be her?"
"Someone placed a curse on her when she was younger that makes her transform into that thing", Melissa said, "but we don't know more than that."
"She drinks elixirs to help keep the curse at bay", Emily said, "but something must've happened to her that made her transform."
"We need to go after her and figure out a way to change her back", Melissa said.
"I'm with you", Luz said, "just give me a second."
Luz took out her phone and began looking through it for something.
"Luz, is this really a good time to be messing around on your phone", Melissa asked.
"A while ago, I recorded some videos of Eda trying to teach me magic", Luz said, "maybe there's something here that can help us."
She pulled up a video and began watching it, and there was something that caught her attention.
"Maybe this'll help us", Luz said.
Some time later, Eda, who was back in her normal form, awoke in her nest surrounded by balls of light, and she found the other residents of the Owl House standing in front of her.
"What happened", Eda asked, "and what's with all the lights?"
"It's a long story", Emily said.
"But one thing to know is that I learned my first spell", Luz said.
"You did", Eda asked.
"That's right", Luz said, "take a look."
Luz took out a notepad and drew something on it, and it turned into a ball of light that floated up into the air.
"Whoa", Eda said, "I've never seen anyone cast a light spell like that."
"We were surprised too", King said.
"How'd you do it", Eda asked.
"I'll tell you all about it tomorrow", Luz said, "right now, I'd like to get some rest."
"She's right", Melissa said, "and you might want to do the same too."
"Alright", Eda said, "see you all in the morning."
Everyone left Eda's room, and Luz noticed the dragon palisman at her feet.
"Aww, hey there", Luz said, "what do you want?"
The palisman flew up to Luz and transformed into a staff, which she caught in her hands.
"Whoa", Luz said, "what's this about?"
"Looks like the palisman chose you to be its master", Emily said.
"Chose me", Luz asked.
"That's right", Melissa said, "if a palisman has no owner, then it can choose an owner who it deems worthy of wielding it."
"And it looks like that dragon wants you to be its master", Emily said.
Luz was amazed by what had just happened.
"Wow", Luz said, "my own witch's staff."
A little later, Luz was getting ready to go to sleep, and she stopped and petted her new dragon palisman.
"I think I'll call you violet", Luz said, "how does that sound?"
The palisman smiled happily at Luz's name suggestion.
"I'm glad you like it", Luz said, "I just know that you and I are going to be the best of friends."
