Chapter1: Acknowledgement
"Everyone isn't born equal"
It's a truth I learned a long time ago. It was when I discovered I was quirk less. In a world full of super power, I, Izuku Midoriya was born quirkless. In a world dominated by super human, I was just a human. Not even mediocre. But even so I wanted to be a hero.
Even if my childhood friend bullied me for it, even if everyone laughed at me for it, I didn't want to give up. And it's because I didn't give up, I met someone. Someone that would change my life forever. Someone that I met because my soul didn't give up on being a hero. And he said
" Young Man you too can become a hero"
It was All Might. He saw a worth in me no one had seen and believed in me. For the first time, someone believed that even I can be a her. And so he gave me his quirk. A chance, a chance to be something more than I was. A chance to follow my dream. A chance to be a hero. I trained under him, I got in UA. I made friends. And I was on a path to be a hero slowly. But fate had something even bigger in store for me. Something I never expected.
"Ugh why do I need to waste my time here." said Miruko in a annoyed tone.
"You skipped over it for past 3 years." Said Edgeshot.
"So what. Why hero commission gotta force me to watch sports festival" groaned Miruko.
"Well you have been ignoring this for 3 year. It creates a bad impression on heroes. Specially when number 5 hero is avoiding the sports festival for multiple years." Said Ryuko.
"Well, Ryuko is right. It does create a negative image. It's just a sports festival. Look at the bring side, you get to ignore it for 3 more years before Hero Commission again forces you. " said Hawks
"Yeah shut up chicken" an annoyed Miruko replied.
Hawks let out an annoying grunt but didn't protest, he was mature enough to know its pointless.
"The 1st years sure look promising. Each of them are blessed with strong quirk. Seeing how they are soaring through the obstacle course, I am definitely impressed" said Crust.
"Endeavours kid sure is talented. Hey Endeavour-san can I take him for work study. I am sure he is most likely will chose you though" said crust
"Fuck off" said Endeavour.
" I wonder how he is your kid with that attitude. That Bakugo resembles you more than your son to be honest" said Best Genist
And hence everyone laughed. Well almost everyone. Cause Miruko wasnt giving a shit. And Gang Orca just sighed.
" One more word and I fucking roast all of you" said Endeavour and left the seat to go somewhere else
"Did you really need to piss him off like that ? " gang orca asked chuckling.
While hawks was busy grinning and having Vietnam flashbacks of Villains threatening to turn him into KFC chicken and failing every time.
"That was not my intention. I was merely stating facts. A hero should be more modest" said best Genist.
" Speaking of students that Pink haired girl sure is interesting. From the student data provided to me it seems she is from support course. Does it mean she made all those gears ?" asked Ryuku.
"If she did, she is damn talented. We should keep an eye on her growth. She will be resourceful " claimed Edgeshot.
While their eyes were on several different students, Miruko was simply staring at the field uninterested. " Boring. Just a show of flashy quirk." And she sighed thinking that internally until her eyes glanced at a certain green hair cinnamon roll.
It was none other than Midoriya, digging up mines and stock piling them.
Suddenly her face light up. She knew what he was about to do. And he did exactly that.
He jumped over the mine with a strong shred of Iron and roared through the sky, catching up with Bakugo and Todoroki the two leads. He dived in, putting both legs above both of them and hitting the mine on ground hard. Another mine blast blew away the two leads and threw the 9th user of One for all towards his goal. And he was first. The stadium erupted in cheers and shock and this green hair puff ball out of nowhere took the 1st without even using his quirk.
The top heroes looked at the event with shocked faces and open mouth. Except of course Miruko. But also Hawks. He also noticed. Why wouldn't he. His eyes are sharp for a reason. He grinned with satisfaction, Miruko stomped with excitement. Why wouldn't they, because the 9th holder of One for all did the unexpected and cut through the boring bs taking the 1st position.
She was finally excited. The boredom passed away as her eyes rested on Izuku with her trademark smile. " Your names Izuku eh. Super strength Quirk. Let's see what you can do little pimp." She thought.
"That kid got guts. So manly" cried crust.
"That certainly was a bold move. Interesting kid" said Best Genist.
Rest nodded in agreement while Miruko kept ignoring them like always.
And so the next round began. It was chivalry battle and with 1 million point, Izuku was alone.
All might, Endeavour, Hawks, Edgeshot, Miruko and the rest of top10 extras couldn't help but laugh at it . After all they could relate, relate to how it feels to be at the top. To have everyone's eye on you. While Endeavours eyes was locked on his son, like usual, everyone else was looking at Izuku. Waiting eagerly to see him use his quirk.
And hence it began, the chivalry battle. Miruko was amused at the choice of team. "The crow makes sense. He is a good defence. But that round face and gadget pinky. I wonder why" and as she finished the thought Izuku answered her by flying through the sky avoiding all obstacles proving that his choice of team mates was indeed correct. Intelligent and bold. Now that's a combo Miruko liked.
But she was also disappointed how he kept avoiding the fight. Being someone who loved facing things head on, it annoyed her. But she couldn't complain either, his action made sense. Sighed Miruko.
Things soon got heated up, Izuku lost his headband thanks to the surprise move of Ingenium's little brother.
" Tenya family certainly lives up to its name" said Gang orca.
" Well what's with the last minute twist in this festival. This is hella fun" said Miruko.
"Seems like coming here wasn't all that bad now was it" said hawks.
"Shut up chicken"
"Okay bunny". Hawks slipped
The room Went silent. He thought he was dead. He thought the legs that decimate building will definitely hit him. Edgeshot starting giving out prayers, Best Genist was ready to activate his quirk and pull Hawks out from the line of fire, Ryuko slowly moved away to avoid being in cross fire, crust was ready to take out his shield and stop Miruko. Gang Orca sat there without giving a fuck . Poor dude had enough. He just wanted to enjoy kids beating each other to death in peace . Was that too much to ask for.
But it didn't. Because she was way more interested in the fight. Why not, it was getting really intense. Bakugo's team, Midoriya's team and Todoroki's team were engaged in a 3 way deadlock
Midoriya arm light up, fire sprouted from Todoroki's arm as Bakugo closed the distance roaring through the sky with his explosion as dark shadow sneakily takes a headband from Todoroki's team.
Everyone's eyed was locked. The 3 titans were about to clash. Midoriya was about to use his quirk. Todoroki was finally going to use his fire.
And so the bell rang. Ending the intense battle in a cliff-hanger never to be completed. Frick you Horikoshi sensei . No disrespect Intended.
Midoriya Made it to fourth. And as usual his eyes blasted off gallons of water. Miruko laughed internally at the sight of a human water fountain . For someone so bold he was a cry baby. What a weird combo.
And breaks was announced. She went to grab some food. UA does sell some good carrot flavour ice cream. If anything that's the only reason which she used to force herself to come here. Other than Hero Commission's letter of course.
The food line was quite long. Well as expected there will be a lot of people. As much as she wants the ice cream, she doesn't want to go in crowd. She may be approached by heroes trying to strike conversation only to be shitted on by her filterless brash mouth for being weak. After all she has seen a lot of wannabe heroes and weak heroes that gave up striving for the top. Heck everyone other then Endeavour gave up on taking the number 1 position. Which is why she feels irritated at hero's for not trying to surpass all might. But she cant shit on fans. They have no reason to be strong. And there are children too. They are even more annoying. After all she is a bunny. And they wanna pull her ears.
And then suddenly a trembling voice spoke
"Mi.. miss Mi MiruKo...
c- can I... I get an auto graph..."
It was none other than the green haired fluff ball. She locked down on the trembling kid. Even if he was a nervous mess, he cut past all his fears and her intimidating aurora for an autograph. He wasn't afraid of rejection. For some reason that put a grin on her face and lit a bulb inside her head.
"Sure kid, but in exchange get me a carrot flavour ice cream for me from there."
Before she could even finish the boy blasted of at the speed of light like good old team rocket, got the ice cream and gave her the note book. As she looked at the page where the UA 1st year requested her sign, it had her drawing in it, her quirk, uses of her quirk in different battle and most importantly her leg based fighting technique written down in detail.
She was quite amazed at the notes but laughed at the drawing he had for her. The kid could do better with some practice she thought as she erased the drawing and did a self portrait which honestly was good, given her hobby was designing. And put her sign there. Also added a few notes to her quirk use section, because why not and while she was at it why not some advice on how to draw her better. This kid deducted it so well, that she couldn't help but fill the gaps of knowledge cause honestly he deserved that much.
And she returned the notebook. The kid over excited started bowing and shouting thank you. Miruko looked at the kid with a grinning face, as she couldn't help but be drawn in to the cuteness this little shit has.
As he was about to leave Miruko stopped him. She suddenly remembered something, something that's been in her mind ever since she first saw him in the sports festival.
"Yo Midorima.. Riya ? Ahh whatever I had a question."
"Yes Mam, also its Midoriya, Midoriya Izuku"
"Ah yes Izuku. Why don't you use your quirk? Also Izuku is shorter so I will use it unless you have any shorter name"
The boy turned red, but held himself strong enough to reply
"No.. wait there is but I.."
"Forget it, just tell me about your quirk Izuku. It said super strength or whatever you could have easily cleared the obstacle course using that. Why the massively dangerous stunt. Not that I am complaining, I am impressed at what you just pulled but It also seems stupid when you have a quirk like that. "
And the nervous look on Midoriya changed. Into a vulnerable expression in his eyes. But there was another, an irritated expression. Something Miruko knew quite well. The expression screaming I am not enough. Something she felt long ago. After all people didn't think she could be a hero with bunny like ability. What can a bunny even do.
And he opened his mouth to say
"My quirk is more like stock piling. It stock piles energy and releases it. In terms of strength alone it is as strong as All Might. Not that I am flexing but it's just like that.
However, my body can not take the full force of my quirk. Every bone and muscles shatter to pieces if I use it at full force. I was quirkless most of my life. Few weeks before entrance exam my quirk suddenly manifested. Ever since then I have been trying to control it. Right now my body can handle 5% but my control is shaky . Since I didn't have much time to practice like others, I have a hard time controlling it and learning how to use it. That's why I wanted to avoid using it as much as possible unless needed."
Miruko stood there, silently listening to the kid mumbling about his quirk and she grew even more impressed.
"Ah!, sorry I ended up saying too much again...I'-"
"So you are saying, you participated in this sports festival, trying to avoid using your quirk while aiming to win ? Why ? "
The vulnerability in his eyes suddenly vanished. Filled with determination and a strong fire burning with passion, the same fire she sees in All Might's eye. The fire that sends shivers down her bones and makes Endeavours hell flame look weak.
"Because I want to be a hero that saves everyone. I cant get stronger if I don't try. Lots of people have helped me along the way and have their expectation on me. I cant give up just because I can not control it. I cant become the best hero if I keep running away . A hero that surpasses even All Might...
Oh wait I am sorry I said too much. I ..I.."
Miruko burst out into laughter at the words she just heard.
"We can't beat all might, he is too strong, how can anyone surpass him, I want to be something like him" is what she hears from everyone, even the top ones. But this kid, who cant even control his own power wants to beat all might. That's it, that's the kind of Hero she respects, the kind of hero she wants to be and is. A hero that aspires to be the best regardless of whatever is in their path.
Raising her head high and locking her arms with her waist, she said
"Izuku Midoriya huh. I look forward to the day you become hero. But it will not be easy as the one standing in your way would also be me. I have no intention of handing it over to you without a fight. You have the will and balls to be the best hero. Show me what you can do kid. Show me that you have what it takes to be worthy of competing against me." She declared. And then she left.
Izuku stood there is silence processing the sudden acknowledgement and declaration of war Miruko just gave. She hardly praises let alone acknowledges any hero below her ranking much. She is a brash as Bakugo but with more self control and brains. She praised him, the number 5 hero praised him and acknowledged him. It was sincere, as sincere as the time All Might said You can be a hero to. The fire that was in him, lit up into a indomitable blaze as he felt more confident than ever before. And above all he was happy. He couldn't stop but grin. And suddenly a bell rang. And followed by present mic declaring that breaks over. Izuku knew that the next round will be a 1v1 battle and he will have to use his quirk. But he wasn't nervous like usual. He felt confident for some reason . A voice in his head telling him he can do this. Maybe it's because of the sudden validation he received, for some random person who happens to be not. Someone other than all might that saw some worth in him. Someone as amazing as All Might. Right now he really felt like Deku, the hero who can do anything.
