Dipper and Mabel were now watching a cartoon on a crystal ball in their room
It was Beast sheeper. The adventures of a sheep and their partner in the boiling isles as they fight and face mysteries related to various beasts and sometimes demons and witches
"Wow! I can't believe the boiling isles has a show that's just like ducktective!" Said Mabel happily as she ate a Hexmix
"I know, right? And it's just as good" said Dipper smiling as he magically pulled a Hexmix towards him before eating it
"Hey. When do you think they're gonna reveal the secret sibling?" Asked Mabel cheerfully
"Hopefully not at the finale"
"DIPPER! MABEL! COME DOWN! I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!" Yelled Tilda from the bottom of the stairs
"Yes, Mom!" Said Mabel as she ate a Hexmix
"Wonder what this is about" said Dipper curiously as he raised a brow
The two quickly made their way down the stairs. They saw their parents waiting for them in the living room. That gave the twins the assumption that something big is happening
"Okay, you two", said Mr Clawthorne with a weak smile "don't freak out, but-"
"You're starting school tomorrow!" Said Tilda interrupting her husband
"Hey! I wanted to say that" said Mr Clawthorne with a frown from the betrayal that has befallen him
"I wanted it more" said Tilda with a cheeky smile
Dipper, wanting to hear about the school thing, fake coughed a few times to get his parents' attention
"Oh, right! You're going to school tomorrow; prepare at least 2 spells to show the principal so he'd let you into normal classes" said Tilda cheerfully "wouldn't want you in the baby class, would we?"
Dipper got nervous as an idea formed in his head, causing him to worry
"Do those spells have to be...i don't know...strong?" Asked Dipper with a nervous smile
"C'mon, Dipper. You're great at magic.", said Mabel's encouragingly "hey. Show mom the firey watery shapey thingy"
"Mabel, no. I'm not gonna-"
"Oh no, now you have to show me" said Tilda excitedly as she kneeled down to Dipper's level
Dipper frowned as he stared at his mother who was giving him a thumbs up before turning to his twin who was doing the same
Dipper looked at his father and he was doing the same
Dipper sighed before drawing two magic circles, one on each index finger, causing a fireball to appear on top of one finger and a water ball on the other
Dipper then silently changed the shapes of the two spells
First, the fireball took the shape of a pinetree amd the water took the shape of a six fingered hand
Then the fire changed into the shape of a shooting star and the water changed into the shape of a fish eating a small ball of water
Dipper then turned one of the orbs into a book moving through it's pages and the other into 2 kids waving
"That's more than plenty to get in, Dipper." "yeah, it's great!" said Mr and Mrs Clawthorne cheerfully
"But it's not actually useful! It's more like a party trick or something" said Dipper before slumping down dejectedly
"You do realize there's an entire track dedicated to illusions, right?", asked Tilda raising a brow. Dipper couldn't reply. Tilda put her hands on her son's shoulders and spoke "now, don't worry about how much power you have. You already have your head and a talent for potions; you'll do great!"
"...i guess you're right"
"Great, now let me tell you a few things about your new school"

Dipper was still not convinced about the not being weak thing. After going back to his and Mabel's room he flopped unto his bed with a depressed look before groaning
"What's wrong, Bro-bro?" Asked Mabel cheerfully
"Mabel...do you think I'm weak?" Asked Dipper dejectedly
Mabel just let out an odd noise indicating confusion
"*sigh* I'm the weakest in the family, Mabel! What if I'm not good enough at school?" Said Dipper covering his face dejectedly "what if other kids make fun of me?"
"C'mon, Dipper. No one's gonna think that; you're pretty good at magic and even if it's not the strongest, you're still the best at making potions" said Mabel with a smile before her expression changed to one of regret "and...i know wasn't the most reliable at Gravity Falls...i did a lot of selfish things...and ruined a lot of stuff for you...and you did a lot for me...so this time, whatever it is, i got you"
"Thanks, Mabel. That was...surprisingly mature of you"
Mabel smiled happily for a few seconds before speaking
"Yup! Mature Mabel! That's me! Now, help me find Waddles's size; i need to get him a school uniform"
Dipper rolled his eyes while smiling before helping Mabel with finding Waddles's size

"Okay, you two; me and your dad will be watching, always remember that we're cheering for you." said Tilda patting Dipper and Mabel on the head "C'mon sweetie; i wanna find good seats"
And with that, Dipper and Mabel were alone in the backstage with the other kids
They waited for their turns while preparing mentally
"Mabel...Clawthorne"
And before they knew it, it was Mabel's turn. She gave Dipper a thumbs up and Dipper returned it before she went on stage
"Please don't let this be another one" whispered the principal in horror before turning to Mabel "well, show us what you can do"
Mabel then showed off a gigantic fire spell and a light spell; accidentally burning quite a bit of the stage and it's curtains
The show scared quite a few people
"*sigh* not again" whispered the principal having flashbacks before turning a few seconds later to Mabel and speaking in a dead inside tone "welcome to Hexside, Mabel Clawthorne, Which track do you wish to join?"
"Beast Keeping with this little guy, please" said Mabel as Waddles ran to her from backstage
Bump stared at Waddles skeptically before deciding to ask Mabel
"A pig, huh. Is there anything we should...be aware of about him?" Asked the principal holding in his breath, wishing for his expectations to be incorrect
"Oh, just this" said Mabel cheerfully as she drew a magic circle in the air, making Waddles grow in size enough to destroy a part of the stage
"Only a few hundred years until retirement" said the principal, looking dead inside before drawing a magic circle and making Mabel a member of the beast keeping track by magically putting her in the uniform.
"Hey! Can i get a uniform for Waddles as well?" Asked Mabel cheerfully as she held up Waddles who shrunk back down to his original size
"No" said deadpanned the principal before he decided to call the next name "Ma...what?"
As Bump looked at the paper in his hand, he noticed something that made him stop saying the name
Instead, after a few seconds of thinking, he shrugged and said a completely different name that was written with the original name
"Dipper Clawthorne"
Dipper gulped before stepping on stage as Mabel gave him a thumbs up
Bump stared at Dipper curiously before deciding to ask him about the name
"Is your name...cursed or something? I was informed to not say it."
"Oh no. I just...rather be called Dipper" said Dipper scratching the back of his head awkwardly
"Not the weirdest thing I've dealt with. Show us what you can do"
After saying that, Bump braced himself for what's about to come...which never came
Dipper did his little firey watery shapey thingy with different shapes than before, making it as big as he could...which wasn't that big
Bump relaxed as he saw that Dipper wasn't gonna cause chaos and watched calmly until he finished
"So?" Asked Dipper with a nervous smile
Bump didn't reply
Dipper suddenly got nervous, the possibility of failing rose in his mind. The principal noticed this and calmed him down
"You passed, don't worry...i just thought it would be more...chaotic?...your family seems to enjoy doing that" said the principal before sensing that the subject was a bit touchy from Dipper's reaction and changing the subject after getting a glare from behind him "*cough* So! Which track do you wish to join?"
"*sigh* potions" said Dipper dejectedly before Bump changed his uniform magically. Then Dipper went backstage drooping
Mabel was about to cheerfully congratulate her twin, possibly with a hug, but then she saw his expression and got worried.
"Dipper, are you okay?" Asked Mabel with concern clear in her voice
"I'm fine" said Dipper before lying face first on the floor
Mabel stared at her twin, he looked miserable; Mabel was quickly regretting her showy display in front of the principal
But before she could say anything to try and comfort Dipper, the principal's voice was heard
"Oh no! The choosey hat! It went rouge!"
Dipper's ears perked as he heard that. He ran unto the stage and saw everyone staring at another child who was getting eaten by a hat
The child struggled to get out of the choosy hat's deadly grip on their head, but as the principal drew a magic circle to use a spell, the hat jumped off of the child's head and escaped
"I've been traumatized" said the poor child the hat almost ate
Dipper's eyes widened as he realized the opportunity in front of him. If he caught that hat, then maybe he wouldn't be looked at as weak compared to Mabel
"Always knew that hat was a bad idea" said Bump narrowing his eyes "guess i have to find-"
"I could look for it!" Said Dipper with a smile on his face
Principal Bump let out a sound of confusion. Mabel stared at her brother for a few seconds after hearing what he said
And quickly decided to help him
"Yeah! Dipper's good at this kind of stuff" said Mabel cheerfully
Before Bump could speak, he felt a glare coming at him. he looked behind the twins to see Matilda Clawthorne. Matilda was glaring at him with the power of a thousand suns. The message was VERY clear
'Make up for what you did with Dipper and let them do it or face the consequences'
Matilda was the greatest construction witch on the boiling isles, both in battle and in constructing, and she's also the person who fixes Hexside everytime something crazy happened
Bump did not want to change that...and besides, it's not like he has to do the work
"This family is going to be the death of me." whispered Bump tiredly before turning to the twins "Fine, but make sure to bring the hat before the end of the day"
Dipper beamed after hearing that, and Mabel's smile got bigger
They were going on a monster hunt

"Okay, Mabel. We've asked around the school and the last place where the choosey hat was seen was near this classroom"
The twins were now following the hat's trails, and it led them to the beast keeping classroom
"Ooh, my future classroom" said Mabel with a big smile on her face as she held Waddles "wonder what's in there"
"We're about to find out" said Dipper as he cautiously opened the door with a potion ready in hand
But nothing happened
"Huh? Kinda expected...you know...let's just go in" said Dipper
And with that, the twins entered the dark room. Dipper pulled out a potion that he shook; it soon lit up and Dipper used it as a flashlight
"Let's split up. Be on the lookout for the hat, Mabel" said Dipper as he explored the classroom
Mabel nodded before using her hands as binoculars as she and Dipper split up
"Mngh, so dark. Wait...i have night vision" said Mabel in realization before she closed her eyes tightly and when she opened them, here pupils were slit like a cat's "That's better. Okay, Waddles. Be on guard for any-"
Mabel was cut off by a squawk; Mabel turned to it's source and saw...a griffin
"Oh my gosh, a griffin!" Said Mabel running to the griffon cheerfully "always thought the pigeon head was better than the eagle's"
Then, Mabel proceeded to pet the griffin and scratch it under the chin before taking weird poses with Waddles and the griffin
"Wait, what was i supposed to do again? Oh! The hat! Focus, Mabel! Dipper's depending on you!" Said Mabel facepalming before turning to the Griffin "hey, have you seen a hat somewhere around here? It's pointy, has a face and probably teeth on the bottom?"
The Griffin tilted it's head in confusion, then Mabel heard a low growl coming from behind her
Mabel's eyes widened as her instincts told her to dodge, allowing her to evade an attack from the choosey hat
Mabel and the hat stared each other down...Waddles was there too
But then, a yellow goo interrupted the staredown and tied up the hat
"Got it!" Said Dipper running to Mabel's location
But before Dipper could celebrate further, the hat escaped it's confines.
Mabel surrounded herself with an orange bear aura (the one she used against the owl beast) before she lunged at the hat with a battle scream
The hat dodged, then Mabel slashed at it with her bear hands, leaving a few claw marks on the hat
Dipper then tried to catch the hat with the goo as it dodged Mabel's attack...only for the hat to dodge again
"No no no no!" Said Dipper in distress as he tried to capture the hat again only to fail
The hat quickly left the room and went out of sight
"ugh!"
"That hat is surprisingly agile" said Mabel in shock
"And can get out of the restraining goo." Said Dipper in frustration as he pinched the bridge of his nose "I have make a better substance to restrain it. Maybe a clue to where it went could pop...wait! What if nothing comes up! We'd have to look for it on our own! I have to get this done, fast!"
Then, Dipper went to work using the potions he had on him and some small stuff from the beasts in the room
Dipper knew how to mix ingredients very well; he knew what did what, what could be replaced and what could replace it
And very specific measurements
It was the only magic he thought he could do well; so he made sure to know every inch of it, and Mabel knew that
She also knew she was very lucky; magic came to her as naturally as breathing
Her magic did what she wanted when, or even before she knew she wanted it
Heck, she sometimes learns new spells by complete accident without even focusing on anything
She never tried to control it, she always just...rolled with it and got what she needed
But now, it wasn't her that needed something...it was Dipper
Mabel closed her eyes, took a deep breath and started trying to control her overflowing magic
Waddles oinked as he watched electricity crackle around Mabel and started backing up as the electricity got stronger
And finally, Dipper noticed what was happening
"Mabel?" Asked Dipper im confusion as he approached his sister slowly
Mabel turned her head just enough for Dipper to see half of her face and opened her eyes, they were glowing, they looked beastly and they were terrifying
"Found you" said Mabel menacingly with terrifying glowing beastly eyes
Dipper jumped back when he saw the eyes, causing Mabel to slip out of her trance
"Oh, sorry" said Mabel quickly shaking her head to snap out of her trance "are the eyes scary? I was just so focused on the hat, sorry."
"Eh, it's fine. I'll get used to it"
"Well, i found the hat. Did you finish the cage thingy?"
"Yeah, i got it, and this time...i won't be nice" said Dipper in a serious while narrowing his eyes
"*gasp* you'll turn evil?!"
"Oh no, i meant that I'm gonna attack the hat"
"Heh heh. I know, I'm just messing with ya" said Mabel before giving her twin a light punch to the arm "Ow, i have to turn this thing off soon, I'm getting a headache"
Dipper rolled his eyes with a smile on his face
The two then followed the hat

"Feed" whispered the choosey hat as it roamed Hexside, careful not to be found
Yet it didn't help it escape the twins
A stream of golden fire hit the ceiling where the choosey hat was. The hat dodged before it was forced to dodge a slash from a bear claw, causing it to stand on the floor
The golden fire that hit the ceiling wasn't extinguished, it flew towards Dipper's hands and were concentrated there
"Give it up, hat. You're going against bear armor and fire that can't run out" said Dipper in a serious tone before whispering "or will at least stay lit for a while; the gas i used is still experimental"
"Dipper, the hat" Mabel reminded her twin
"Right" said Dipper in affirmation
"I will feed" said the hat in a deep voice
And then, they attacked
The hat dodged the golden flames and Mabel's slashes and it started running
The twins chased the hat around until they reached the potions classroom
The hat slipped under the door (somehow) and Dipper and Mabel barged in
Surprisingly, someone was in the classroom...it was the potions teacher
"Hey, what's going on?" Asked the teacher as the hat passed by her
Dipper just went around the teacher while Mabel literally jumped over her
""Sorry"" said the twins in union
Dipper fired a stream of golden fire at the hat, finally managing to hit it
But the fire didn't burn the hat, it merely knocked it towards the wall with a small amount of heat actually hitting it
Dipper wanted to catch the hat, he didn't want to give Bump a pile of ash, so he lowered the heat
The hat saw a cabinet that held some potion making equipment and decided to crawl under it
Dipper tried to fire another stream of fire...but only a weak orange fire came out; it didn't even touch the hat
"Not now!" Said Dipper before rummaging through his bag for a specific potion
Mabel however, jumped at the cabinet as the hat crawled in
Mabel tried to catch it before realizing that her bear hands were too big to fit, so she removed the bear aura and reached for the hat and pulled out...
"An old timey music disc?" Said Mabel in confusion before looking under the cabinet with her night vision "oh boy"
"What? What happened?" Asked Dippee worriedly with an odd yellow liquid floating next to him
"There's a hole down there" said Mabel with a frown
"It must've crawled through it" said the potion teacher with a hand on her chin
"And i found this weird old music disc" said Mabel showing the odd brown and black music disc to Dipper and the teacher
"I don't recall ever seeing this here" said the teacher as she inspected the disc
"Does it matter? We lost the hat and there isn't enough time to find it again" said Dipper as he drooped dejectedly as he put the odd yellow liquid back in it's bottle
"If it's any help, i found your potion work excellent for someone so young" said the teacher with a smile "from your uniform i can tell you're an up and coming potion maker, i look forward to teaching you"
"Wait, you're the..." said Dipper before the teacher completed the sentence
"Hexside's potion track teacher. Nice to meet you." Said the teacher extending her hand to Dipper
"Dipper Clawthorne"
And with that, they forgot about the hat entirely. The three talked about random stuff for a while until...
"Hey, is there anything here to play this disc?" Said Mabel cheerfully "i wanna know what's on it"
"Don't worry, Mabel. When we get back home, i..." said Dipper after turning to Mabel
Dipper went silent as he saw something on the disc that wasn't on the other side
Claw marks...Mabel's claw marks
Dipper Instantly realized where the hat went
He usually never used potions that require breaking the vial, it was a waste of glass, but this time, he was desperate
Dipper then threw a potion at the hat, and once again, it dodged
But not fully. The hat was pinned to the floor by an odd yellow substance and was about to break free
"The hat!" Exclaimed Mabel in surprise
"Mabel! Don't let it get away!" Said Dipper
Mabel did so by instantly jumping on the hat with her bear aura activated
Mabel made sure the hat didn't escape from under her foot, and Dipper turned the odd yellow substance into a bubble, a very durable one
A prison the hat wouldn't get out of
"We caught it!" Said Dipper beaming happily

"I didn't actually expect you to succeed" said Principal Bump as he held the hat's bubble in his hand "then again, that's always how it is with you Clawthornes, defiance; so, as Principal of Hexside, thank you for finding this *shiver* terrible idea"
"You're welcome, Principal" said Mabel cheerfully "but can we keep the hat?"
Bump laughed loudly at the little witch's request
He then answered
"No"
