Back inside the school, Ving's muscles deflated and he shrank back to his normal size.
"Ving! We gotta save her!" called Sprig. "We're heroes!"
"You're the heroes!" Ving protested. "You save her!"
Sprig's eyes widened, before sharpening. "Fine... We will!" he retorted, pressing the release button and opening the suit's containment chamber.
All anyone could do was look on to Sprig as his life was now about to change forever. Sprig soon let go of the control panel and yelled out as he went flying in the air, then grabbed the suit once it was free to use, sending him after Ani.
"Boys, you've got to help them," Angelica told the Eds. "It's your duty as The BattleToads."
"We will, Angelica," Eddy nodded to the princess before looking back at Double D and Ed. "Come on, guys. We have to do this."
"And if we don't make it?" Ed asked.
"Then it was really nice having you guys as my pals," Eddy told them. "No... More than my friends. You're my brothers and real brothers stick together."
Activating their space helmets, the Eds hurled themselves into the pipe after their friend. Dif was the last one up, and he used his stretchy body like a seal over the airlock, which kept it from sucking anybody else out.
"You're so helpful." Angelica told Dif.
"Thanks, lady!" Dif grinned at her. "So... What's the deal with those guys anyway?"
"I'll tell you of The BattleToads' origin when the time is right, but right now, let's just hope they can survive this challenge," Angelica replied wisely. "They hail from a special kingdom on Earth called Peach Creek where I found them and trusted them to become the universe's greatest warriors to protect me and my dear friend, Professor Byrd from The Dark Queen who hoped to steal my amulet for universal conquest."
"Ooh..." Dif looked wide-eyed and impressed so far.
Sprig screamed as he saw himself getting closer and closer to the deep darkness of space and quickly went to put on the space outfit he had in his hands as the Eds were on their way out to join him. He was on the verge of suffocation until he found a button to put the air helmet on around his head and the headgear of the space uniform adjusted for him as they floated in space together. "Wow! One size fits all." he then smiled all around himself.
"Nicely done, Sprig," Double D replied. "Now to go after Ani before we lose her forever."
"You know how to work that suit?" asked Eddy.
"Okay, it's thought-controlled," said Sprig. "So if I think 'fly', then..."
Suddenly, the jetpack began to power up and suddenly sent Sprig flying across the deep vacuums of space.
"I guess it worked." Eddy shrugged at Double D and Ed.
"Come on, we better go after him and save Ani." Double D suggested.
"Right!" The other two Eds agreed before they went after Sprig and Ani before something disastrous could happen.
The deep vortex was shown, swallowing up the asteroids and the scattered remains from Sprig's school supplies. Sprig saw the alien girl and looked determined before speeding up beside her. "Hang on!" he then told her.
"I don't need any more of your help!" Ani glared at him before seeing the blackhole come closer and closer. "But there's one chance for you to prove me wrong!" she then told him, panicking more about the blackhole than being stuck with him.
Sprig reached out for Ani, but was smacked away by an asteroid that hit him.
"I got him!" called Double D, pulling his tongue out and tying it into a lasso. "You two help Ani!"
"Got it!" Ed and Eddy nodded before looking at each other. "Let's do this!"
"...Man, isn't it crazy Double D did that?" Ed commented. "He's a bit of a germaphobe at times."
"Tell me about it," Eddy agreed. "Now let's go for that chalk white chick!" he then proclaimed.
"Right!" Ed nodded as they then went to help out Ani.
"YAAAAUGH!" Ani still cried out before Ed and Eddy flew over and grabbed onto her arms for starters.
"Relax... We got you." Ed told Ani.
"So no worries!" Eddy replied. "Time to make like toads...and hop for our lives!"
Landing on a drifting asteroid, they pushed off and hopped with Ani, onto another asteroid.
"Gotta take this one step at a time..." Ed nodded before spotting another asteroid that was drifting nearby. "Ready?"
"I'm ready," Eddy agreed before looking at the alien girl. "How 'bout you?"
"I... I guess so..." Ani said wearily.
"You just hang tight and you'll be fine," Eddy told her. "You just gotta trust us."
"And that includes Sprig." Ed added.
"I'm not sure I like that kid yet," Ani said before heaving a sharp sigh. "But I guess I don't have any choice."
"No, you don't." Ed and Eddy told her.
"Great..." Ani groaned and sighed a bit.
"Ah, let's be real; he's at least not as bad as Ving," Eddy smirked. "I didn't see him chomping at the bit to save your tail."
"Yeah, I guess that's true," Ani rolled her eyes. "Ving's been obsessed with me for a long time, but I'd prefer it if he took a hike through the galaxy into a blackhole."
"Maybe you could try to give Sprig a chance?" Ed suggested. "You could at least be friends if nothing else."
"...I'll thnk about it, okay? The same goes for you guys." Ani then decided.
"We can live with that!" Ed replied.
BACK WITH SPRIG AND DOUBLE D...
"Alright... So far, so good!" Double D called, before seeing their friends flying towards some massive asteroids. "But maybe we can figure out the weapons systems on that thing!"
"Guys! Look out!" Sprig warned before a wrist cannon seemed to come out of the suit now and then shot a laser right at the asteroids.
Ed, Ani, and Eddy continued to glide along, though the asteroid they were about to hit soon broke and they were spared from being smashed.
"That works." Double D said with a small smile.
"Sweet!" Sprig smiled once he saw what he did.
"Okay, go through there!" Double D said, seeing an asteroid barrier about to close. "They're about to go in through there, we're not done yet!"
Sprig nodded and flew through the barrier as the asteroids began getting closer together. "What'd she call it? Uh... Hypo... Hippo... Er..." he pondered as his chest plate began to scrape against an asteroid. "...HYPERDRIVE!"
As Double D grabbed on tightly, the Hyperdrive function activated, and all the thrusters fired up as they both shot through the barrier, making it out by the scruff of their necks.
"Here we go!" Double D called out as they were in for a ride.
The barrier sealed shut right behind them as they made it out in time before they zipped over to Ed and Eddy.
"Hey, guys. What's up?" Double D smiled innocently.
"You must think you're really funny." Eddy rolled his eyes before smirking.
Sprig soon shot right out and came beside the alien girl and the other two BattleToads/Eds. "Hey... I know we got off on the wrong foot, but do you think we could have lunch or something?" he then asked Ani with a small smile.
"Even if we don't die, I'd rather die." Ani glared at him.
"Well, that's what she said, but what she meant was-" Sprig smiled innocently to the others only to get interrupted.
"...I'll think about it." Ani then suddenly said, surprisingly enough instead of "No" like predicted.
"...It's definitely progress!" Double D spoke up.
Suddenly, the Nebula-5 Battle Suit started to beep lower and lower as its lights dimmed, and Sprig began to drift aimlessly.
"What's happening? Why did he just float off?" asked Eddy.
"It must've been the Hyperdrive!" exclaimed Double D. "Using it must have drained the suit's power supply!"
"What?!" Sprig yelped.
"That's only a guess though... Maybe I'm wrong?" Double D then suggested with a nervous grin.
"Yeah... I doubt it." Eddy groaned, both frustrated and concerned.
Sprig soon looked wide-eyed and scared to death and soon, he saw his life flash before his eyes which seemed to be a sign of the end for him and his new friends: his birth, his mother feeding him in his highchair, playing in a toy rocket ship with the family dog, pretending to be a flying superhero, the birth of Sprout, Sprout tattling on him for about to destroy her teddy bear with a toy laser gun, and reading comic books. The Eds began to have the same fate and even saw how generic and bland they were, such as Eddy practically screaming at everybody, Double D being so weak and germophobic, and Ed spouting out random non-sequiturs and his strange obsession with chickens or gravy.
Luckily for Sprig, he then suddenly remembered something important. "Cowpie!" he then exclaimed.
"Uh, Sprig, do you mind? We're kinda having a meltdown trying to find a way out of this." Eddy replied.
"No, Eddy, the cowpie that Pa gave me before we left home!" Sprig told him. "I think I know a way out of this!"
"I sure hope this works!" Eddy exclaimed. "Besides, we already had those flashbacks when we went to find my brother!"
Sprig took the cowpie, opened up the port on the wrist, and put it inside.
"Boy, sure is convenient that Sprig's father gave him that rather grotesque gift before we went off to The Celestial Academy." Double D remarked.
"Indeed." Eddy agreed.
"Guys, did I really say 'gravy' all the time?" Ed asked.
"If you are going to do anything but draw flies, NOW WOULD BE THE TIME!" Sprig told his cowpie before he set it in the spacesuit to help power it up again to give it more natural fuel. He started to look exhausted before he soon felt some new energy coming right back and soon had a full tank again.
"All right, we're back in business, boys!" Ed cheered then.
"You said it and now it's time to go and save Ani!" Sprig proclaimed.
In a jolt of energy, they shot forwards, seemingly vanishing into the vortex... But then, a few seconds later, they shot right back out of the vortex, with Ani in tow!
"YA-HOO-HOO-HOO!" exclaimed Sprig.
"TO INFINITY... AND BEYOND!" shouted Ed as they streaked back towards the school.
"Hang on... We're coming in for a landing!" Double D shouted as everyone watched the group skid to a halt.
They soon landed on the asteroid, though Sprig and Ani seemed to skid across the ground just outside of the school.
"So close..." Double D sighed. "But at least Sprig and Ani are both safe."
"Yeah." Eddy nodded in agreement.
The other students looked at Sprig before laughing at him still, even after all of that while Angelica didn't seem to like them laughing at Sprig and the Eds.
"They're... Laughing at me?" Sprig asked in concern.
"Well, yeah," Ani told him as she stood up with a glare. "You crashed the nebula, Earth geek, but... Thanks for saving my life." she then said with a small smile.
"Crashed the nebula?" Sprig repeated as he smiled back before he seemed to like the sound of that. "Hey! That's great!"
Ani began to look a little confused.
"Sprig Speevak: Earth Geek, now I'm Crash Nebula: Space Hero!" Sprig announced in excitement. "And with his trusty and helpful pals: The BattleToads!"
"Now you're talkin'!" Eddy grinned.
"That sounds like it could be some kinda movie!" Ed remarked. "Or at least a moderately successful franchise!"
"That's right!" declared Sprig. "I'm Crash Nebula, and I'm-"
LATER...
"...In detention?!" Sprig then exclaimed as he and the Eds found themselves seated in nondescript desks.
"That's right, detention," snapped Pam Dromeda as she put back the Power Suit. "That'll teach ya not to touch my stuff, ya little murps!"
"Aw, crumbs." The Eds groaned a bit as they got in trouble despite their heroic deed with Ani.
"How did we get in trouble too?" Eddy complained.
"You were with this boy as accomplices," Pam Dromeda scolded. "Maybe I oughta take those special bracelets of yours, you so-called WarriorFrogs."
"That's BattleToads!" Double D corrected firmly.
"Whatever! Either way, you all broke the rules!" Pam Dromeda glared at them sternly.
"Although, they did show a skill level and pro-efficiency that I, dare say, even surpassed even yours at their age and the girl named Princess Angelica has informed me of how important these other three boys are for help protecting her from The Dark Queen from her homeland." Princess Galaxandra said as she soon came into the room.
"But they touched my stuff!" Pam Dromeda complained like a child. before glaring at the four boys. "And I didn't give them permission!"
"True, and just because they have the skills to pilot the suit and become the galaxy's greatest heroes, doesn't mean they have the maturity to use it wisely." Princess Galaxandra then began to say as there seemed to be something else to add.
Sprig sighed. "Lemme guess... 'Which is why we're sending them back to Earth'." he said, bracing himself for the inevitable.
"Just don't take The BattleToads away from us, Princess," Ed said. "I don't wanna go back to a chicken and gravy obsessed one-note character and I don't want my friends to go back to screaming all the time or complaining about filth!"
"We so do not want that!" Double D and Eddy added in agreement.
"Which is why Ms. Dromeda will have to tutor you on how to use it after school." Princess Galaxandra then finished her thought before giving a small smile.
This surprised Pam and the boys instantly, both positive and negative. "WHAT?!"
"Sprig and boys all named Ed, you have twice now been confronted with the strange wonders and dangers that exist in the universe and faced them without fear." Princess Galaxandra continued with a small smile.
"Oh, my gosh... She's totally buying it!" Sprig whispered. "So I can use the suit again?"
"Only in matters of grave importance." Princess Galaxandra replied.
"We won't let'cha down, ma'am!" Sprig declared confidently.
"And I highly recommend that you, Rash, Zits, and Pimple, help him out," Princess Galaxandra soon told the Eds. "I've heard quite a bit about your adventures and what you have done for the galaxy ever since you were found by Princess Angelica."
"We can do it, no problem!" The Eds declared confidently.
MEANWHILE, BACK ON EARTH...
Sprout was standing at the door of Sprig's bedroom, holding a paint roller and a bucket of dripping paint. "I'm thinking of a niiiice pink~" she smirked darkly.
Suddenly, the house started to rumble and shake a bit, concerning Sprout a bit. There was then a flash in the room and soon appeared her big brother who grinned at her, wearing his new Crash Nebula suit and soon, he was met with the Eds in their BattleToad forms. Sprout then let out a scream as she wasn't expecting that at all.
"Didn't Princess Galaxandra tell you to use this suit on gravely important situations?" Double D reminded the farm boy.
"Well, this is gravely important to me." Sprig defended innocently before blasting his sister's paint bucket and paint roller from her hands into nothingness.
Sprout blinked at that before screaming her little head off.
"They'll never believe you." Sprig smirked at Sprout then.
"Just like Sarah about us and the other kids in the cul-de-sac." Ed added.
"WA-HOO-HOO-HOO!" Sprig shouted as he flew out of the roof, soaring through the sky... Before the suit shorted out, and he crashed in a field full of cows. "...LOOK AT ALL THIS FUEL!"
The Eds cringed and grimaced together nervously.
"Moo!" One of the cows mooed after Sprig's crash.
"He's gonna need a lot of work." Double D commented.
"Nothing we can't handle though." Eddy added.
"Sprig? Sprout?" Mrs. Speevak's voice called.
"Now you're all in big trouble!" Sprout smirked as she pointed at them before she went out the door, going to bust them like Candace Flynn often tried for her brothers. "MA! Sprig is a spaceman now and his friends are giant warty frogs! Ya gotta come and see!"
"Different, but the same," Ed shrugged. "...I think we're gonna like it here."
"It'll be an interesting visit," Double D said. "I can hardly wait to see what other adventures we'll have with Sprig, Ani, Burt, and Dif."
"Hopefully without Ving." Eddy added.
"Amen." Ed nodded.
Mrs. Speevak was soon coming back with Sprout.
"Should we change back and mess with Sprout's head like with Sarah back home?" Ed smirked at his best friends.
"Ohoho, yeah!" Eddy smirked.
"LET'S GET NORMAL!" The boys exclaimed.
And so, The BattleToads were consumed in a bright flash of light.
"See, Ma? See?!" Sprout spoke up as she kicked the door open with a glare before gasping in shock.
The boys were shown to be back to normal, sitting in a circle together with a deck of cards.
"Got any 3s?" Ed asked.
"Go Fish!" Double D replied.
"Hey!" Sprout complained, making them turn around to see her. "What's goin' on in here?!"
"Oh, uh, I think Sprig had to milk some cows or somethin', so we thought we'd wait in here for him unless he needed help." Eddy replied.
"Sprout, you shouldn't bother your brother's friends like that." Mrs. Speevak lightly scolded.
The Eds snickered gleefully as Sprout grunted in aggravation. "But Ma, I know what I saw!" she exclaimed.
"Come on, Sprout. You can help chop onions for supper," Mrs. Speevak suggested. "Sorry to bother you, boys."
"Oh, it's fine. I got one just like her at home." Ed replied with a small smirk as Sprout narrowed her eyes while her mother dragged her off by the arm.
Mrs. Speevak smiled at them before closing the door for them. Once the two were out of sight and out of mind, the boys then shared a laugh together. Sprig was soon coming in through the window in his Crash Nebula suit.
"So, this about wraps things up nicely," Angelica told the boys. "I think I need to share something special with Professor Byrd once we're back home in Peach Creek."
"Yeah?" asked Eddy. "What's that?"
"Well, I don't know when just yet, but I think you guys should have some more adventures with Sprig Speevak in the future," Angelica suggested. "His guise as Crash Nebula and you three as The BattleToads has a lot of potential, especially in the dangers and wonders of the universe outside of Planet Earth."
"She makes a good point." nodded Ed.
"So what does this mean for us?" Double D asked.
"I think that you guys will be working together again in the future, especially in crises away from Peach Creek unless we're visiting those Schwartz kids," Angelica explained with a small smile. "I'll be sure to tell Professor Byrd all about this after we get back."
"Sweet," Ed grinned. "Crash Nebula and The BattleToads in some whirlwind adventures! Whoo!" he then cheered with a fist pump in the air.
"Sounds good to me," Sprig smiled. "It was awesome teaming up with you guys!"
"You were no slouch yourself," Double D replied. "Perhaps soon you'll be an intergalactic superhero yourself!"
"Just like Brock Rocket!" Sprig beamed.
"Yeah!" The four boys jumped up in excitement together before a caption below that seemed to say "THE MIDDLE..."
"...What's that?" Sprig asked as he looked down.
"I dunno... At least it's not just 'THE BEGINNING'." Eddy shrugged.
Sprig shrugged in return before they continued to cheer and celebrate as another adventure was completed.
"Seems like The Eds are gonna be just fine," Zofia said, looking at this footage from her tablet. "It's pretty cool that they get to have their own adventures too."
"Yup!" LJ agreed. "They at least deserve their time to shine."
"Especially away from those naughty cul-de-sac kids..." Zofia scoffed and shook her head.
"For sure." LJ agreed.
Felicity soon came to see them with some milkshakes and the siblings all smiled as they sat together, enjoying a brief vacation before another adventure would come around, but who knew when that would be? So for now, this is...
