Summary:
Heavy AU, Dr. Zauis is surprised when several humans are rescued. What confuses him more is how hostel one Dr. George Taylor is to him. As a theoretical physicist he realizes he has proof of the multi-verse.
So this is highly AU as there never was a nuclear war on earth but apes ended up as smart like humans. There are technically four intelligent creatures on earth now. Humans Chi (chimps) Org (Orangutans) Gor (Gorilla)

Chapter One: The Human Puzzle:
Dr. Zauis was an old world renown theoretical physicist, he was an Ong, and Ong were respected as the peacekeepers between the Chi and the Gor who kept everyone on their toes. Humans tended to do what Humans did and explore, invent and what not. What was interesting is that Drs. Zira and Cornelius had rescued human they had managed to heal. Being veterinarians they hoped they had not insulted the human they had treated. Human, these did not come into this part of the world often, the jungles were not places they really liked to be. Yet this one had and what's more had been asking for him, and demanding to be let go at the same time. Dr. Zauis granted the request and both Zira and Cornelius came, as they were Chi they showed the same nervousness their whole race was known for as two hulking Gor drug a nearly naked human in bound in the manner all ape prisoners were.
The first thing that Dr. Zauis noticed was the human was in very good physical condition, easier to see due to the lack of body fur. His skin was bronzed by the sun and he had dark blond hair and beard. The only clothing he had was a rag of sorts that was tied about his waist and came to mid thigh. He had on a soft collar that was bound to a stick that in turn held his hands behind his back. One of the Gor shoved him to his knees. Dr. Zauis looked worried, just how dangerous was this human? Ah he had attacked one of the Gor gaurds who was growling as he dabbed at the head wound but only glared at the human. This was strange, humans rarely were hostel to apes and got along well, why was this one so hostel?
"Cor what was that for?" The Gor said to the human.
"I said keep your hands off me you damn ape!" The human snarled.
"You attacked us first, we didn't do anything t' ye." The other said, "we were being nice."
"Yea, you hit him for no reason!" The other said.
"He thinks we want to hurt him." Zira said, "keeps saying something about a trial and how you wanted to hurt him."
"We treated him as best we could." Cornelius added.
"So you got me back, what do you want with me?" The human said.
"I am sorry but you have me at a disadvantage." Dr. Zauis said, "who exactly are you? You act as if we have met, but I do not recall meeting a human like you, and Cornelius, why is he not wearing clothes?"
"Well, um," Zira showed the nervous ticks that were so prominent in the Chi, "we didn't have any, we are not people doctors and he is a person and so clothes, well he came without."
"I see, if I have you unbound will you not try to hurt me?" Dr. Zauis asked.
"Depends I want you want to do to me." The human said.
Taylor was confused, he had woke up finding himself in a wreak of his ship, had everything been a dream? Then he had managed to get to the surface but somehow got separated from his crew. Then he was found, and he fought back against the apes who had to knock him out. He woke in a room with Zira and Cornelius over him and neither knew who he was. He demanded to see Dr. Zauis, to see if this was a trick and when he saw what looked like gorillas coming to take him he attacked. Which lead to now, at least he had something to cover himself but it was not much. His hands were unbound and the collar was removed. What was going on? The last thing he remembered was setting of the nuclear bomb, not his greatest achievement, or was that a dream too?
Dr. Zauis came close to see that he had a bruise on his head and he tried to brush Taylor's hair back to see it. The reaction was quick, Taylor was across the room on his feet against the wall. The Gor growled and moved to push him back and hold him firmly but not harshly. It was as if they did not want to hurt him at all but rather to protect the doctor they held him back. Dr. Zauis looked stunned, just what had been done to this man? He feared apes but why? He would not harm a human, they were annoying at times but useful in trade. Zira told him the human, the man's name, Taylor, he would try calling him that, telling the others to back off he walked quietly to the man hands up to show he meant no harm at all.
"I am Dr. Zauis, theoretical physicist." Dr. Zauis said, "Taylor why do you fear me?"
"Because you have total control over me." Taylor replied.
"I don't understand, has someone impersonated me? Why did you attack the Gor guards?" Dr. Zauis asked.
"Oh damn, this can't, either I am crazy or…"
"You crossed, or your mind crossed dimensions." Dr. Zauis said, "what year is it?"
"3978 earth years." Taylor said, "why?"
"It is it is indeed, what happened to earth?"
"Nuclear war, apes took over." Taylor replied.
"Ah, that is where you are wrong, we did not take over, after your world war three the human race settled down to trade and peace, mostly. We all get along now, the humans have much of the world but we have the jungles as we wanted" Dr. Zauis replied, "this did not happen where you came from?"
"No, am I in legal trouble?" Taylor asked.
"No, not this time."
"Blimy if he thought we were the enemy, well I don't want to press charges." The Gor he had hit said.
"I would act the same if humans used me badly." Zira replied.
"Same here." Cornelius replied.
"I would like a private word." Dr. Zauis said.
Taylor was left alone with Dr. Zauis, fearful and wondering what was going on. He looked around the room and saw vast differences, these had smooth straight walls, and a wall of windows that looked over a modern city below. He had come up in a elevator and now he saw that this office was as modern as any back in his own time. He walked to the wall of windows and looked on a city that was in harmony to it's surroundings. He felt Dr. Zauis walk up behind him and he tensed. Dr. Zauis stopped and watched the human, Taylor as he stood tense and bracing for what? He would not hit nor harm him. God above would not condone of such a thing would he? Had Taylor reset the universe in what he had done? If that was the case then perhaps in another time and place he had not been a very nice ape.
"What happened?" Dr. Zauis asked, "to you?"
"You actually care?" Taylor said, "your counterpart did not, wanted to take me apart piece by piece, castrate me then cut my brain apart."
"How barbaric! While we might neuter our pets, it is clear that you are human and part of a much, much higher form of thinking and to harm the brain, well that is not right at all." Dr. Zauis said, "why did he want to do this?"
"Said I was a liar and blasphemous." Taylor replied.
"Seems like someone created a cult." Dr. Zauis replied, "and that sounds like the cult of Caesar there, they are not nice."
"So what happens to me?" Taylor asked, "I can't find my crew and I seem to be stranded here."
Taylor turned back to the window and saw the city sat high above the jungle below. It was set up how he would have thought apes would set up a modern city but right at the moment he hated apes. He had done nothing, nothing at all and was hunted, tortured, humiliated and threatened. He tensed again as Dr. Zauis tried to get close to him. He felt like he was only an animal to this doctor before him. Yet this Dr. Zauis was not trying to hurt him and was trying to be nice. The guards had not hurt him either and it was he who did the hurting. Taylor reached into his mind to center himself, he was safe, he was, was he not? Yet he felt like he had been through so much. He still was brought here bound like an animal and he rubbed at his neck where the collar no longer was.
"You bound me like an animal." Taylor said, "brought me here."
"You did hit the Gor gaurds, they only wanted to keep you from doing that again, it is how all prisoners are bound." Dr. Zauis replied, "ape prisoners are very strong, as are human males."
"Human females are strong too." Taylor countered, "what is to happen now? What do you want of me?"
"I want to make sure you are okay." Dr. Zauis said and looking Taylor over, "you need clothes."
"Yes, I do." Taylor said, "does your name mean you can tailor?"
"Now that was funny and no." Taylor said grinning, "will you give me to the humans?"
"In time, but for now come, you will want food, I can give you what the Chi eat, they tend to like meat a bit more than Gor or Org."
Taylor followed Dr. Zauis of his office, Dr. Zauis would get no more work done today so he took Taylor through a private door to his spacious private rooms. An older Org female saw him and looked at Taylor and then at Dr. Zauis. This was Taia the wife and work partner of Dr. Zauis. With a few words from Dr. Zauis Taylor found himself with food, then a bath and a warm bed. He was safe, and for this first night the nightmares were at bay. Somehow the nightmares of months of torment were over and he was here, and this Dr. Zauis did not want him dead or worse.

Same timeline, different universe. This earth has humans and apes getting along and working together. Dr. Zauis here is going to be a good guy and Taylor is going to have to adjust to nice apes for the most part.
Anyway, do review please!
