"All right, team. Let's not give up hope now." Numbuh 1 said.
"No problem, 'cause Numbuh 5 gave up hope a long time ago!" Numbuh 5 exclaimed. To clarify, we were all chain to a iceberg with the Delightful Children hovering right in front of us.
"Well, well, well. It looks like this is it... Kids Next Doom." the Delightful Children said. "So what do you say we break the ice?" The flails on their ship started spinning as they came closer.
"Well, at least we told Mom, Dad and Marty we loved them." David said nervously. I heard the fear in his voice, but he had a point.
"Yeah." I simply said. Suddenly the flails stopped and I could hear the Delightful Children, minus Lenny.
"Lenny, what are you doing?" they asked.
"Uh... activating the hammer-whacky thing." Lenny said, confused.
"That's not the hammer-whacky thing. That's the -" they started, but their ship suddenly shot up into the air and disappeared. Well, that happened.
"Um... did anyone bring a 2x4 technology chain cutter?" Numbuh 1 asked. We cut ourselves free and headed for home. At least, that had been the initial plan, but Numbuh 35 told us Global Command needed all of us on Moonbase. We were halfway there, when an incoming transmission came in.
"Numbuh 0.2, Numbuh 0.6, it's your brother." Numbuh 3 said. I switched it to the back so we'd have privacy.
"Marty, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Do you guys remember the Forbes?" Marty asked. That was Lenny's family.
"Yeah, Lenny's family." David said. "Why? What's wrong?"
"His mom. She saw you guys yesterday when I was taking you to school and again when you came home." Marty said. Uh oh. We had done our best to stay out of sight of the other families because... well how would we begin to explain anything about what happened? Our own parents don't even know the whole story. "Just stay with one of your friends. Don't come home for right now until Mom and Dad can convince them she was seeing things."
"Okay. Be careful." I said, ending the transmission. Well, that was great. We finally arrived at Moonbase and went inside.
"Kids Next Door operative Numbuhs 1 through 5, 0.2 and 0.6 reporting for duty, sir." Numbuh 1 said.
"At ease, guys and welcome to the Moonbase." Numbuh 274 greeted. That's when he revealed that there was a spy among the adults and instructed Numbuh 1 to share with them super-special, top-secret files with this person. I wonder who is. I got my answer mere seconds later.
"So, who's the mole?" Numbuh 1 asked.
"I am." a very familiar voice answered. We all turned our attention to Lenny as he stepped out of the shadows. He then removed that football helmet, revealing his face. He had this ridiculous looking mouthpiece on and his hair was all sleeked back. Numbuh 4 suddenly jumped and tackled Lenny to the floor. Lenny started yelling for Numbuh 4 not to hurt. Both me and David ran before anyone else could and pried Numbuh 4 off of Lenny.
"Stand down Numbuh 4!" Numbuh 274 commanded.
"Are you nuts? He's one of the cruddy Delightful Children!" Numbuh 4 said in anger.
"He was undercover Numbuh 4." Numbuh 274 said. We helped Lenny off of the floor.
"Correct. I've said your life countless times." Lenny said.
"He did save us from that iceberg." David said. After some explaining we headed to our transportation. Turns out, Lenny's plan was to shut off the coffee supply of the Delightful Children. I noticed David shudder. "I remember being able to taste that crap."
"Well, you don't have to worry about it anymore." I said. We got on the chopper and started toward a coffee rig.
"Numbuh 0.2, over here." Numbuh 1 said. David stood just behind Lenny and they, along with Numbuh 1, 3, 4 and 5, began to recite a line.
"Delightful Children to Triple Espresso. Requesting permission to land." they said in such perfect unison it was almost scary.
"Hey, you guys are good at this." Lenny complimented.
"Good to have ya back. Please transmit password." a voice said. It was Cuppa Joe, a man who was always hopped up on coffee.
"The password is: 'sheep'." they answered. That's when a different reply came than what we were excepting.
"Oh, I'm sorry. That password has been cancelled!" With that, coffee beans were shot at us.
"They're on to us. Do you guys happen to have a plan 'B'?" Lenny asked.
"The Kids Next Door always have a plan B!" Numbuh 1 said, pressing a button and releasing the S.U.B.S.T.A.N.D.A.R.D into the ocean below. We managed to escape underwater and Numbuh 5 was preparing to go out to stop the coffee flow.
"Hey, Lenny?" I said. He looked at me. I tried to see if there was even a hint of him changing back to normal, but I didn't notice anything different. "How are you feeling?"
"Perfectly fine." Lenny said.
"You know, you're mom's really worried about you. After the mission's over, we can take you home." David said.
"My mother? What do you mean?" Lenny asked. Before any of us could say anything else, something hit the sub causing it to rock to the right. Then another and then another. "Those are delightful depths charges!"
"She's taking on too much water. I gotta take her up!" Numbuh 2 exclaimed. Before we could, Numbuh 5 was forced out into the ocean. We surfaced and were faced with many rig workers and Cuppa Joe. We were brought aboard.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the famous Kids Next Door. It seems the Delightful Children overestimated your abilities." Cuppa Joe mocked. I heard Lenny scoff.
"We're the best there is." he said.
"Do I know you?" Cuppa Joe asked.
"Not really, but let me introduce myself." Lenny said, before attempting to tackled Cuppa Joe, only to be dodged. "I'm sorry guys."
"You did you're best Len." David said. All of a sudden, one of the pipes started to rumble. It then erupted shooting Numbuh 5 into the air before she fell on deck.
"C-C-Coffee is so- so- SO GOO-O-O-O-D, BABY!" Numbuh 5 yelled, before zipping around and knocking the rig workers off their feet. Cuppa Joe tried to subdue her, but she managed to trap him in whip cream. Numbuh 5 fell over clutching her stomach. We all ran to her and helped her stand up. She must have inhaled a lot of that stuff.
"Now that we're rid of the boss, let's scuttle this dump before the Delightful Children get here." Numbuh 4 said. Almost on cue, they're eerie voices came from above.
"Silly Kids Next Door. We've been here all along." they said. They sounded so different without David and Lenny.
"You don't scare us, Delightful Dorks!" Numbuh 1 exclaimed.
"Oh, really?" the Delightful Children asked. The rig then transformed into a larger robot. "Now do we scare you?" I started to feel the tingling feeling again. The same one when I recommissioned David. I had to act quickly.
"Yes." Numbuh 2 said nervously.
"No! Because we have a little surprise of our own." Numbuh 1 said, gesturing to Lenny.
"Lenny?!" the Delightful Children exclaimed.
"Ha! In your face, Delightful Losers! Your boy, Lenny here, double-crossed you." Numbuh 4 said. They seemed unfazed by it before turning to Lenny.
"Well, Lenny, did everything go according to plan?" they asked. Both David and I got the same look of terror on our faces as we looked toward Lenny.
"Oh, yes." Lenny said as his football helmet formed back around his head. "Everything went... exactly as planned." He held up the case with the files inside. I immediately jumped on Lenny, preventing him from going anywhere. The tingling grew and sparks started to form around my hands.
"Brace yourself Lenny." I said as an electrical current ran through both of us, causing us to scream.
I found myself in darkness again. I quickly looked around and the bubble outline. I zipped toward it and started ramming into it.
Lenny's Pov
How long as it been? I saw Melody and she looked like she had the last time I saw her, but that didn't mean anything. David looked the same too. This parasite allowed me momentary control just to mock me. Then I heard a crack about me. I had heard it before when David managed to escape from the hivemind. I looked up just as the cracks gave way to an opening. From that opening, a girl fell toward me with her hand stretched out. It was Melody.
"Lenny!" she cried. I was hit by a huge wave of what I could only describe as relief as I reached out my hand.
"Melody!" She finally reached me and we grabbed onto each other as our surroundings faded to white.
I'll try to have part 2 of this episode up soon. I've got to work five days straight.
