Angel: I wanna preface this by saying Treasure Planet is fucking AWESOME, oh my god XD I did not have the pleasure of seeing this film when it came out. I was 3 and I don't think I was interested back then. But then I watched it two months ago when my friend sat me down to see it and I fell in love! How come no one told me about this years ago?! Shame on y'all for not bringing this movie to my attention lol.
But then again, given that it bombed in the box office when it was released, it would make sense why it wasn't brought to my attention. Which sucks...*looks at box office numbers and Rotten Tomatoes score* Is this a joke? No. Bad. Bad critics and to people who didn't see it back then (though it did come out in the same month as the Harry Potter movie that year, which didn't help)
I wish I knew about this film sooner, but here we are.
Also, completely off topic, but I just saw Vivo~! Loved it, I'm a sucker for musicals, and yet Sony made this film, which took me by surprise when I saw their name since...they made films that are not up to par. What was your favorite song, because mine are One More Song, Keep the Beat, and Running Out of Time. And I loved Vivo the kinkajou, he's so cute even if the whole 'talking animal to the audience only, but can sing with other characters' thing confuses me. And his voice actor wrote the songs for the film, and was also in the soundtrack for Moana! With the whole Cuba setting, it reminds me of Coco, but I mean that in the best way possible.
God, just...go watch Vivo, guys, if you haven't seen it already...as well as Treasure Planet XDD You won't regret it!
It was a beautiful sky full of stars as they dazzled, lighting up the night.
"On the clearest of nights...When the wind of the Etherium were calm and peaceful..."
Sailing into the sky was a big grand ship, floating through the sky like it was nothing. It creaked softly as the tone was calm.
"The great merchant ships with their cargoes of Arcturian sura crystals felt safe, and secure. Little did they suspect that they were pursued by..."
Another ship quickly followed behind the golden one, and it was revealed to have a black pirate flag with a skull that had three eyes and fangs swaying in the wind.
"Pirates."
A single pirate stood on the deck of the ship, arms crossed as he watched the Merchant's ship with a sneer.
"And the most feared of all of these pirates...was the notorious Captain Nathaniel Flint."
Captain Flint turned around with a smirk. "Fire!"
The pirate ship fired immediately, cannon balls wrecking the other. Civilians that were on the ship gave gasps of fright. A woman hugged her husband, terrified for her life. Both crews started firing at each other, both of them trying to be rid of the other.
A boy's head and a girl's head popped up between the two. Both of them watched in excitement as they watched the scene. She was fair skinned and slim at the same height as the boy. The girl had medium-long straight brown hair reaching her shoulders in low-tied pigtails, her bangs held by a white headband. Her chocolate brown eyes took everything in as they shined in awe. She was wearing a purple nightgown with long sleeves, the end stopping at her knees. Both the end of her sleeves and her nightgown had white frills on them. She was also barefoot. The boy smiled widely, having a missing tooth as he looked between the two ships in awe.
He laid on his stomach, swinging his feet into the air as the book continued playing out the scene. The girl was sitting on her knees, looking over his shoulder.
"Like a Candarian zap-wing overtaking its prey-"
The boy gasped and shut his book as his door was opened by his mother.
"James Pleiades Hawkins!" The woman scolded him. The two kids tried to act like they were sleeping and she crossed her arms. "Arianna Evangeline Johnson, I know you're not sleeping! I thought you two were asleep an hour ago."
He pouted as he sat up, moving towards his pillow. Arianna whined as she sat up as well. "Mom, I was just getting to the best part!" He grabbed the book and hugged it, looking at her with puppy eyes. "Please?" He pleaded and Arianna joined in.
"Pretty please, Mrs. Hawkins?"
His mother, Sarah, smiled. She rolled her eyes playfully, raising her hands. "Oh! Can those eyes get any bigger?" She sighed and slid onto the bed. "I guess we can get to the best part while we're still waiting for Mr. Johnson to come get Arianna."
He moved over as the girl smiled happily, crawling over to the boy's side. Mr. Johnson, or Oliver, worked two jobs to support Arianna, his only immediate family member. He worked at the spaceport by day, and then as a bar keep at a local tavern by night. He and Sarah were old friends, along with Arianna's mother, who...was not available to look after Arianna. He trusted Sarah to look after his child whenever he had to work, making Arianna and Jim close friends. They got along well, as they had known each other since childbirth. Arianna was at their home so many times that Sarah treated her like her own.
"Like a Candarian zap-wing overtaking its prey...Flint and his band of renegades..."
On the next pages on the book, the pirate ship got closer to the one they were ransacking. The pirates hooked onto it and the pirates swooped in.
"Swooped in out of nowhere."
Then it changed from the pirates overwhelming the merchants to Captain Flint using his sword to slice off the lock. Gold and jewels fell out, and he scooped up two handfuls of them, holding them to his face as he laughed in victory.
Then everything changed to the ship fleeing from the scene.
"And then...Gathering up their spoils..."
The ship then magically vanished.
"Vanished without a trace."
Jim, Arianna, and Sarah stared at the book. "Ooh!" They exclaimed at the same time, though Sarah was just doing it to humor them.
"Flint's secret trove was never found..."
Then green fog appeared, slowly panning in on something.
"But stories have persisted that it remains hidden...somewhere at the farthest reaches of the galaxy...Stowed with riches beyond imagination..."
Then the book showed a barren planet, with it having two rings wrapped at opposite angles.
"The loot of a thousand worlds...Treasure Planet."
"Treasure Planet!" The two children said along with the narrator, Arianna giggling as she hugged a pillow.
Sarah closed the book as Arianna stood up onto her feet. "One day, I'm gonna travel the world in my own ship and become an adventurer!" She declared determinedly, acting as if she had a sword as she jumped around, fake sword fighting.
"Cool!" Jim's eyes shined at her and Sarah took her by the waist, tucking her in. She took a rag from her pocket, putting it to Jim's nose.
"Okay, blow your nose."
He blew his nose and sniffled, and then she put it away.
"How do you think Captain Flint did it, Mom?" Jim asked, crawling onto his headboard while his mother was distracted with putting the book away. She looked back, surprised to see neither of them. Arianna was hiding underneath the blanket while Jim was on the headboard. "How'd he swoop in out of nowhere?" He leapt off the thing and she held her hands out to catch him. She missed and he landed on his stomach, unhurt. He crawled underneath his blanket to join Arianna. "And vanished without a trace?"
"I have no idea," She grinned playfully as she moved close to the children. She suddenly grabbed the two of them and they squealed. "Come here, you little—I'm gonna get—Pfft!" He squealed and they both laughed as she both blew a raspberry on his stomach and tickled Arianna. They both tried to get away while laughing and she smiled, moving them both towards the pillows. "Okay, now it's time for the little spacer and the big dreamer to go to sleep."
She booped his nose, kissed Arianna's forehead, and tucked them in. "You think somebody'll ever find Treasure Planet?"
Sarah furrowed her eyebrows upon hearing a light squeaking. She reached behind the pillows and pulled out a monster toy.
"Sweetheart, I think it's more..." She looked at the toy with a raised brow. "Like a legend!" She shrugged as she placed the toy on the nightstand.
Jim frowned at her answer. "I know it's real," He insisted and she smiled.
"I think it's real too! All legends have a chance of being true. My father says it all the time," Arianna added in, holding up a finger.
Sarah gently cupped his cheek while gently caressing Arianna's hair. "You win. It's real. Arianna, your father may as well write that in a book with how many times he says it."
"I know! But he's gonna do great things for us. I just know it," She smiled softly as she had faith in him.
She kissed Jim's forehead, then Arianna's cheek, and stood up. The two smiled and he snuggled his pillow. Arianna laid on her side onto the pillow. "Nighty-night, Mom."
"Nighty-night, sweetheart."
"Good night, Mrs. Hawkins," Arianna yawned a bit, closing her eyes.
"Good night, Arianna," The woman smiled at her as she walked to the door, grabbing the handle. "I love you, James."
"Love you too," He yawned back and she shut the door.
Once it was dark enough, Jim swiped his book, Arianna sitting up. The two giggled as they opened the book.
"There are nights when the winds of Etherium, so inviting in their promise of flight and freedom...made one's spirit...soar!"
About an hour later, there was a knock on the door. Sarah sighed knowingly as she walked to the front door and opened it to reveal Oliver, Arianna's father. He was a tall Caucasian man with a brown bushy beard, shaggy brown hair, green eyes, and was wearing a blue uniform.
"Thanks, Sarah," He sighed in relief as he stepped inside.
"Oliver-"
"I know, I know, I'm late," He dragged a hand down his face. "There was another bar fight..." He sat down in a chair and Sarah walked off to go get the little girl. He pinched his nose at the things that he and Arianna had to deal with. "Bunch of arrogant rogues always causing trouble..." He wouldn't be doing this if he wasn't the only parent in his daughter's life...this was one of the reasons why she and Jim could get along so well, because he was an only child like her.
Sarah walked back in with the sleeping girl, the child's arms wrapped around the woman's neck as she was sound asleep. She handed Arianna to Oliver and he stood up. "Oliver...it's not my place, and Arianna is always welcome here, but...for the sake of your daughter, maybe you should give up that bartender job."
He blinked in surprise and frowned a little. "I-I know, but...being on the maintenance for the port doesn't give me much pay. How can I provide for my Arianna and our home if I don't get another source of income?"
"What Arianna needs is her father in her life. You know, my offer is still on the table to loan you some money-"
"No, Sarah," He shook his head. "I appreciate it still, but...Arianna is my only family," He closed his eyes sadly as he hugged the girl gently. Her quiet, peaceful breathing always made his worries go away. "I have to be able to provide for her as her father...I'm all she has."
Sarah's eyes saddened as she stared at the two. She could understand his constant absence in the girl's life, but at the same time, Arianna also needed time with her father...
"Thank you for taking in Arianna for the day," He got onto his feet, holding Arianna in both arms as she continued to sleep. "I'll be on my way."
Sarah shook her head as she watched them walk out the door. She just hoped that someday, that girl would fulfill her dream...
