The ship jolted as they escaped, sending everyone flying backwards. Delbert flew into some rope as they flew upwards and into the starry night.

Silver, Jim, and Ari slowly opened their eyes while the rest of the crew cheered for their escape. Amelia smiled and left the wheel, Morph turning back to normal. He let out a sigh of relief, essentially turning into a puddle on the floor. Ari bent down and scooped him up, wiping off sweat from her forehead in relief.

"Captain!" Delbert tried to catch his breath while setting himself free. She just walked right past him. "That...oh, my goodness. That was...that was absolutely—that was the most-"

"Oh, tish-tosh," She simply interrupted, looking at a device. "Actually, Doctor, your astronomical advice was most helpful," She stated and then walked away.

"Well, uh, uh, thank you," He stammered to her, baffled that she actually complimented him. "Thank you very much. Well, I have a lot of help to offer anatomically—amanamonically—astronomically." He facepalmed himself and Ari stared at the two, having seen the whole thing. She shook her head in amusement with a small smile.

"Well, I must congratulate you, Mr. Silver," Amelia stated as she walked down the steps. "It seems your cabin boy did a bang-up job with those lifelines." Silver smirked down at Jim, nudging him. The boy responded with a smile. "And your actions haven't gone unnoticed either, Ms. Johnson. Seems you've picked up a few things by simply observing. Excellent job to you as well."

Jim nudged the girl playfully and she blushed in embarrassment, rubbing her neck. Jim nudged Silver, who pushed him back slightly with his hand as they both chuckled.

"All hands accounted for, Mr. Arrow?" Amelia spoke up, expecting an answer from him...but confusion soon grew as he was nowhere to be found. And he would usually answer Amelia too, which was off... "Mr. Arrow?" She called out as the rest of the crew scoped for him and failing.

Scroop stepped up to the four, a melancholy look on his face. "I'm afraid...Mr. Arrow has been lost," He held out the hat from Mr. Arrow that fell off. Ari clenched a fist. She didn't know how, but she had a gut feeling that she wasn't buying that explanation. Especially since it was only coming from Scroop. He did something, and she didn't like it...

Amelia gripped her hat sadly and that was enough for Ari to clamp her mouth shut. Seeing her expression, that is. It almost felt like the same way Ari felt when she lost her father. "His lifeline was not secured."

Ari gasped as she remembered seeing the cut lifeline, turning to Jim. And so did everyone else. Jim's eyes widened from the looks he was getting.

"No! I checked 'em all," He insisted, running over to the mast with the lifelines, pushing past other people. His heart dropped as he saw that one line was unaccounted for, which was Mr. Arrow's. "I...I did. I checked them all," He lowered his shoulders, turning to Amelia. "I swear."

Her stare hardened at him and his expression turned into guilt. He glanced at Ari, who was giving Amelia a pleading stare. She knew that Jim would never overlook something like that. He was a lot of things, but he wasn't a liar. Silver frowned and then glanced at Scroop, who gave a knowing smirk. Silver glared at him.

"Mr. Arrow was a..." Amelia cleared her throat as her ears were drooped, her expression full of remorse. "A fine space, finer than most of us...could ever hope to be..." Delbert looked down, feeling sad while listening to her. "But he knew the risks, as do we all. As of this moment, First Mate...will be passed down to Arianna," She announced, shocking all of them. For one, she said Arianna's full name out loud, when she preferred it in public. And two, she didn't think Amelia would replace Mr. Arrow so quickly, but...she could tell Amelia was still hurting to say that. The crew started whispering as she stiffened, not sure what to feel.

"W-What?" She murmured in disbelief, being handed a smaller red outfit that looked like Amelia's, as well as Mr. Arrow's hat.

"She has proven herself fully capable in the Captain's eyes, and...she earned the position." Amelia placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You can trust her guidance..."

Jim looked on and felt a pang in his heart.

"Resume your posts. We carry on," And with that, Amelia walked up the staircase.

"But I..." Arianna faltered as she watched Amelia walk away. She closed her eyes sadly as she heard Amelia's footsteps.

Ari turned to Jim, and as soon as he saw her looking at him, he ran off. Silver glanced at her and Jim, all three concerned for him.

Amelia stepped out of her quarters as Ari was supposed to report to her back about Jim's...incident with the lifeline, but she didn't. She scoped the ship for the girl, to find her standing at the edge, looking out to the stars. She was just standing there, her back to the woman. Amelia stepped forward to Arianna.

"Arianna...how's the investigation for the lifelines going?" Amelia asked her. When she didn't get an answer, she glanced to the floor to see Arianna's red uniform on the ground. The clothes were folded, with the hat on top. She looked up at Arianna again in realization.

"Amelia...I don't wanna be First Mate," Arianna finally spoke up as she gripped a fist to the wooden edge. "It just seems wrong to fill in for Mr. Arrow and...he would've wanted me to-"

"Make this ship proud," Amelia interrupted her. Ari glanced over her shoulder.

"When I wanted to take this trip to fulfill my dream of being an adventurer, I didn't ask for him to be dead to achieve that goal!" She gritted her teeth. "That's not what I want," She shook her head. "I don't think I can do this...Find someone else to be your First Mate."

Amelia stepped forward, placing a hand on the girl's back. "Arianna...you know, when you first stepped in, I wasn't sure of your...caliber." She flinched at hearing that word. "But now, seeing you grow and prosper unlike many others here..." Ari stared up at her in surprise. "I find that you are the right person for the job. Mr. Arrow was...a dear friend of mine, and I will mourn for him once we return. But we have a journey to complete...not just for us, but anyone we've lost along the way. That is something we all must learn. After all...your father worked for not only you...but to honor your mother's memory."

Ari's eyes opened wide at her mentioning her mother. "You were the world to Oliver and to your mother...now you can have the chance to properly thank them for what they've done...by fulfilling this role."

She teared up upon hearing that since...she didn't think of it that way. Her parents had done so much for her, and she never repaid that...and now they'd never get to see her do things such as this.

"What if I mess up? What if I lose Jim because of me? My parents...they'd want me to do this, but..." She hiccupped as she started to cry, since they weren't here to support her or help her make a big decision such as this one.

"Oh, dear, it'll be alright," Amelia pulled her in for a hug and she returned it. "They're here with you in your heart..." She rubbed the girl's back as Ari sniffed, slowly hugging Amelia back. "Make them proud."

"...I will..." Ari pulled back, wiping her nose with her sleeve. "I have to go find Jim...he's around here somewhere, and he needs a friend right now...But speaking about that, Jim didn't purposefully lose Arrow. He would never endanger someone else's—"

"Go," Amelia assured her and pushed her away gently. "Never mind what happened earlier. He needs you." Ari nodded silently and Amelia watched the girl leave. She looked down at her arms, as her comforting Ari felt like how a mother would comfort her own child, and...Ari felt like a daughter to her. She felt like she had to help the girl follow her dream now...

She smiled at that interpretation and walked off.

Ari looked around and saw Jim sitting on some netting. She perked up a bit and ran up to him. Silver joined her side at the edge, looking up at Jim. He was clutching the broken lifeline in his hands. "...It weren't your fault, you know," Silver spoke up to him. Jim just let out a sigh, still staring out.

"He's right. It could've happened with anyone," Ari agreed with him since she was 90 percent sure Scroop was responsible for Arrow's death, and he would've done it regardless if it wasn't Jim.

"Why, half the crew would be spinning in that black abyss-" Jim flinched upon hearing that and threw the rope. He then jumped, landing on the edge in front of them. "Look, don't you get it?!" He grabbed Ari's arms and shook her a bit, causing her to go wide-eyed. "I screwed up!" He released his grip on her a little, but still held onto the girl. "For two seconds, I thought that maybe I could do something right, but-" He released Ari and ran his hands through his hair. "Aagh! I just-" He screamed and turned towards a pillar, running a hand through his hair. He then let out another sigh, letting his head fall. "Just forget it. Forget it," He rubbed his eyes and Ari blinked.

"...This isn't about just Arrow...is it?" She asked cautiously and he flinched.

"...What if that was you, Ari?" He questioned slowly without looking at her and she clamped her mouth shut. "What if you disappeared too? I...I wouldn't be able to live with that at all. I'd be...broken. This is why you need to stay away from me. I'm just a punk kid with no future. And now you're stuck with a job you don't even want because of my screw-ups."

"Jim...that's not true. You're not screwing up...I still have my doubts about taking on First Mate, but I still wanna do my best. Not just for me, but for my parents. You still have things to live for..."

"How can you still be friends with me? Even after I pushed you about Oliver, you're still around me. Why?" He asked her bitterly and she looked away sadly. Even when his dad left him, he wasn't this bad...and she couldn't even answer his question, because...she didn't want to tell him her feelings for him, especially in his emotional state at the moment. It wasn't the right time, and she had no other way to answer him.

Silver glanced between the two, feeling some tension with them. He decided to step in as he grabbed Jim by the shoulder and turned him around. "Now, you listen to me, James Hawkins and Arianna Johnson. Ya lot got the makings of greatness in ya. But ya gotta take the helm and chart your own courses."

A few tears escaped from Jim as Ari stared at him, touched.

"Stick to it, no matter the squalls, and when the time comes you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails and show what you're made of...well..." He looked up to the sky. "I hope I'm there catching some of the light coming off ya two that day."

Jim looked up, panting a little as Silver looked down at him. He sniffled and rested his forehead on Silver's stomach. He sobbed softly and Ari joined the hug, closing her eyes. Silver looked a bit nervously, but patted their backs. "Lad, it's alright, Jimbo. It's all right," He hugged the two back, clearing his throat after a few seconds. He then pushed them away. "Now, Jim, Ari, I, um...I best be getting about my watch...and you two best be getting some shut-eye. After all, the lass is starting her first day on the promotion!" He pushed them to the stairs.

He stared after the two as they started to leave. Jim and Ari glanced back, giving him small smiles. He waved to them as Ari mouthed 'thank you' and went first. Jim followed after her and Silver's smile dropped afterwards. Morph joined Silver's side.

"Getting in too deep here, Morphy," He murmured to the shape-shifter. "Next thing ya know, they'll be saying I've gone soft." Morph nuzzled him, causing Silver to let out a chuckle. He rubbed the back of his neck and then left.

He didn't notice Scroop had seen the whole thing...
