"Alicia Baker was killed by one in the employ of Lionel Luthor."
As soon as the words left Chloe's mouth, Nikita found herself off the ground, Clark's hand around her throat. His eyes were glowing red, and Nikita felt her heart stop. She'd been in life or death situations more times than she cared to remember, to the point where she could almost treat the Grim Reaper as a friend. She had never felt as helpless as she did right now.
"Did you know? Did you know?! DID YOU KNOW?!" He yelled, and she winced as his grip tightened.
"N..No. I...swear."
"Clark-"
"I just happen to save your life, and now I find out that the people you worked for killed someone I loved. They kill my wife, and I am supposed to believe that it's all a coincidence? That you've just happened to go rogue? Tell me who you're working for! Tell me what they want or I will break you."
"Not...Division. Told...truth." She groaned out, and Clark squeezed tighter. Nikita could see black spots on the edge of her vision.
"Clark! Clark stop! She's telling the truth! She's rogue! She's number one with a bullet on Division's list of targets." Chloe told him.
"You're sure?"
"Dammit, yes I'm sure! Now let her go!"
Clark released her, and Nikita fell to the floor, gasping for air and clutching at her throat.
"I..I'm sorry, I…"
"It's okay." Nikita said once she had caught her breath.
"No it's not. I could've killed you. You're innocent, and I could've killed you." He said, and she laughed, her laugh turning into a cough.
Clark disappeared, reappearing an instant later with a glass of water. Nikita took it, sipping it slowly.
"I'm not innocent. I've done my fair share of terrible things. But you wouldn't have killed me. Even though you're angry, I have no doubt that you were in control. You don't get to be your age with your powers and not have a level of control."
"Well Lionel is going to find out just how much control I have. I'm going to find him, and then I'm going to kill him. He dies tonight."
"I can't let you do that." Nikita replied, and Clark laughed.
"Nikita, you may be all kinds of badass, but as you just saw, you can't stop me. Neither can Lionel."
"Listen to me Clark. I understand wanting to kill the people responsible for the death of the person you loved. The head of Division, a man named Percy, had my fiance murdered. I am going to tear that place apart, and then I am going to put a bullet in Percy's head. If you go and kill Lionel now, there is absolutely no telling what he will do. He will probably send cleaners to kill you and everyone you care about. He will put you right up there next to me. Or worse, he'll make a frame-job. Have you or Chloe or someone else blamed for a crime you didn't commit, and you'll wind up in jail or on the run for the rest of your life."
"Then I find Percy and kill him too." Clark replied.
"You're not listening. Percy keeps files on every job Division has ever done, sanctioned or not. If you kill him right away, I guarantee you that will get out, and it will plunge the world into chaos. I'm not exaggerating when I say that. Governments have been toppled by Division, balances of power shifted in a matter of hours. It would make Edward Snowden look like a drop in the bucket by comparison."
"I can't just let them get away with this. Dammit Nikita...She died in my arms." He said sadly, and Nikita walked over and embraced him.
"At least you had that much. I found Daniel in the lake outside his home. He was already dead. Now we will get Percy and Lionel and anyone else who is involved. We will burn Division to the ground, but we have to do it the right way."
"Where do we start?" He asked, and she smiled.
"Chloe, how secure is your connection?"
"None of the alphabet soup could get in. Why?"
"I need to make a call."
Inside Division, Alex double-checked to ensure she was alone before accessing the shell program that she used to communicate with Nikita.
You there Sensei?
I'm here. Anything new on Percy?
He's angry that Michael lost you. I thought he was gonna blow a gasket.
You can thank our new friend. I'll introduce you sometime. Anything besides Percy's feelings?
He's suspended ops for a couple days. I heard him talking to Michael and Amanda about some fancy dinner tonight. Lots of bigwigs.
Thanks. Stay safe. I'll be in touch.
You too.
Alex didn't put what she wanted to. She couldn't. It wasn't safe for Nikita or for her. Nikita could never know. No one could.
"What was that?" Clark asked when Nikita had closed the chat.
"That was a communication with someone I have on the inside. She's a friend. I'll introduce you some day. She told me that Percy's suspended active missions. She also told me that he will be attending some kind of fancy dinner with lots of bigwigs. All I have to do is figure out where."
"I think I might know. Your turn to let me make a call." Clark said, pulling out his phone.
"Mom, you still have that dinner in D.C. tonight right? I think I can make it after all. Would you mind if I bring a friend? Seven o'clock. Yes ma'am." He said, hanging up the phone.
"What was that?" Nikita asked, but it was Chloe who answered.
"That was United States Senator Martha Kent, also known as Clark's mother. She's attending a dinner tonight with a lot of other people with titles and money. Including Lionel Luthor, several of the members of the various intelligence agencies and I'm willing to bet, Percy."
"Can you run me somewhere? I need to change, get some supplies." Nikita said, and Clark smiled.
"Just tell me where."
Two minutes later they were standing inside of her loft, Nikita shaking her head in amazement.
"I doubt I'll ever get used to that. I need to change into something more appropriate. So do you. You do have a tux right?"
"It won't be a problem. Nice collection." He said, looking at the weapons that she had around the room. She had enough firepower here to take on an army.
"Everyone needs their tools. Take a look at the guns, see if there's one you like. I know you don't need it, but it never hurts to have a backup just in case."
"Thanks, I'll do that. Then I'll go change, and pick you up in a half hour?"
"Sounds like a plan. Thank you again for my life." She said, walking over and kissing him on the cheek. Then she walked away, Clark turning his eyes to the weapons so as not to look at Nikita's retreating backside. She really was beautiful.
He studied them for several minutes and made a selection. Then he disappeared. He needed to get a tux.
Thirty minutes later, he was back at Nikita's loft.
"What do you think?"
He turned at the sound of her voice, and his jaw almost dropped. Nikita was gorgeous. She stood there in a red dress that hugged her curves, a light bit of makeup on her face. Red lipstick was on her lips.
"You look absolutely stunning."
"You don't clean up too bad yourself handsome. Now we need to go over the plan."
Nikita walked over to her weapons, selecting what she would need as she explained her plan. Clark stopped her a few times to ask questions, but by the end he was nodding in agreement.
Washington D.C. Hotel-7 PM
"Clark!" His mother called, and Clark smiled as he walked over and embraced her. Even though he and Nikita were here to send a message to Percy and Lionel, he loved seeing his mother.
"Mom, it's good to see you."
"You too. Where's your friend? We're at a table with Lionel and a few other people."
"Clark!"
"Speak of the devil." Clark said quietly, and Martha raised an eyebrow.
"Mr. Luthor." He said, shaking the man's hand and fighting the urge to break it.
"Clark, son. How many times must I tell you to call me Lionel?"
"Lionel. How's business?" He asked, and Lionel smiled.
"Fantastic. Now Martha, there's someone you simply must meet. He's here somewhere…"
Lionel scanned the room, smiling when he saw the person he was looking for.
"Ah Percy, there you are! Percy, this is Senator Martha Kent, and her son Clark. Senator, this is the man I've been telling you about. Percy here is a true patriot, an unsung hero of our nation."
"And that's just the way I like it. A pleasure Senator. Mr. Kent."
"Clark, Martha told me you brought a date. Ms. Sullivan or Ms. Lane perhaps?" He asked, and Clark shook his head.
"No. As a matter of fact, there she is now. Hi beautiful." He said, putting his arm around Nikita's waist as she walked over to them. He saw Percy's eyes widen just slightly.
"Hi. You must be Senator Kent. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Nikita." She said, smiling and shaking Martha's hand.
"The pleasure's mine. This is Lionel Luthor and-"
"Percy. We're old friends. We used to work together."
"Indeed we did. It's been too long. Maybe we should grab a drink and catch up." He said, and Nikita smiled coldly. She saw Michael across the room, and she could tell that the wait staff were Division. Good thing she and Clark had planned for this.
"I think I'm good right here. I-" She started, and then stopped when Clark cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry, we are here to deliver a message. We can get to you whenever we want. You are not untouchable. Your entire world will be turned to ashes, and then I will put a bullet between your eyes."
"Clark what-"
"You'll have to forgive your son Senator. Nikita seems to have gotten her hooks into him. She's very good at that. I'm afraid Nikita is actually a very disturbed individual, and I am going to personally see to it that she gets the help that she needs." He said, and Martha nodded. Clark pretended to trip, and spilled his glass of wine on Martha's shirt.
"I'm sorry Mom." He said, and she shook her head.
"No worries. Excuse me all, I need to get this cleaned up."
Once she had left, Clark turned his gaze on Lionel.
"Lionel, will you be helping with Nikita too?" Clark asked.
"What are you talking about Clark?"
"I'm talking about Alicia Baker! I'm talking about the fact that you paid this piece of filth to have her murdered. All I want to know is why? What did she ever do to you?"
"I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about son. Percy, you're right. This woman is clearly insane. I will be more than happy to help in any way I can."
"I will find out the truth Lionel, and when I do, you're a dead man." Clark said, and Percy chuckled.
"Mr. Kent, what would your mother think? Allowing yourself to be taken in by a stranger?"
"You so much as touch my mother, your entire Division is ashes. Let me be clear. The threats against you have multiplied. Your days are numbered." He said, and Percy smiled.
"I'm sorry it's come to this Nikki. You always were my favorite."
"You may be sorry. I'm not." She said, pulling out her lipstick. She turned the tube, and five cars outside the building exploded.
