About an hour or so later, Trent and Jenny were walking along the beach hand-in-hand, telling as much as they could about themselves and generally enjoying each other's company. For the first time in his life, Trent was feeling quite happy about himself. But it was not because of the large amount of money that he now had. In fact, he was thinking of donating a large amount of what remained to charity, lest he risked becoming as obnoxious as Mandy. What was making him happy was finally having someone to talk to and hang out with as a friend, something he never got to have much time for during his work as Mandy's intern.
For her part, Jenny was happy that her current master was so friendly and considerate. Throughout her years in the lamp, many of her former owners would just make their wishes and send her back in the lamp. But Trent had clearly taken a shine to her and wanted to show her all the wonders of Los Angeles, taking her to the 'Groove' shopping centre, where he got some new outfits and a new car, before taking her for lunch at the Mali-U cafe. And now they were just contentedly making their way along the golden sand of the shore as the waves of the sea gently lapped by their feet.
"I've had such a wonderful day, Trent," said Jenny. "None of my previous 'masters' ever allowed me to see the world properly. All they've ever done is use me to grant their wishes and then just order me back into the lamp and cast me aside when I'm not needed."
"I know how you feel," said Trent. "I've spent the last couple of years working for Mandy, and did she ever say thanks for all my hard work? No. As far as she's concerned I'm just a servant to push around, but I've never felt brave enough to tell her to be just a bit nicer."
"You just need to feel more self-confident," said Jenny soothingly. "Unlike me, you have the freedom to choose your fate. I have to remain in the vicinity of the lamp and grant wishes, regardless of whether my owner is nice or not. You at least can just say 'no' and walk away."
"I never thought of it like that before," said Trent. "I just wish I could free you from that lamp. Is there no way?"
Jenny shifted her feet a little uneasily. "Well, you see..."
"TRENT! Where have you been?" came a loud voice that brought disharmony to the previously peaceful scene. As a startled Trent and Jenny turned towards the source of the voice, they could see a fuming Mandy stomping towards them from ahead.
"Where have you been?!" Mandy bellowed in Trent's face. "You were supposed to be picking up my dry cleaning this afternoon!"
"But, Mandy, you fired me, remember?" said Trent wearily.
"Oh yeah? Well, I'm giving you another chance. Now get your sorry butt to the dry cleaners now!"
"Excuse me," Jenny started to say, "but Trent doesn't have to follow your commands if he doesn't want to..."
"Who asked your opinion, loser?" snapped Mandy. "You mind your own business!"
It was then that something finally snapped in Trent. "Hey, you can't talk to her like that, Mandy! And she's right. I don't have to work for you anymore. I quit!"
Mandy could not believe her ears. "What?! You can't do that!"
"I just did," said Trent with a confidence he never knew he had in him. "Now why don't you do us all a favour and push off!"
This was too much for Mandy's ego. "Fine! I don't need you! I can just hire another intern! See if I care! You were a pathetic employee anyway!"
And with that, Mandy began stomping away in a huff, as Jenny regarded Trent with a new level of admiration.
"Golly, Trent. You really showed her."
"Yeah, I... I did, didn't I?" breathed Trent, not quite believing his new-found courage. "Man, I should have done that ages ago."
A mischievous glint appeared in Jenny's eyes. "Say Trent, you wouldn't be up for suggestions for your second wish, would you?"
She quickly whispered something in his ear, and a broad grin grew on Trent's face.
"Oh yeah. That sounds good. That's exactly what I wish for!"
"Granted!" said Jenny as she snapped her fingers. A second later, a small black cloud, about the size of a small car, formed over Mandy's head and started to pour rain on her!
"Argh! What's going on?" Mandy yelled as she tried to run away from the cloud, only to find that the cloud followed her every move. For the next 12 hours, it would stay with her, even indoors, and keep showering on her throughout that whole time! As Mandy ran fruitlessly back to the Dorm with the cloud in tow, Trent and Jenny burst into helpless laughter.
"Oh man, that was a good wish!" snickered Trent. "Thanks for that, Jenny!"
"My pleasure," said Jenny as she tried to control her fit of giggles, while they made their own way back to the Dorm. As they did so, they were unaware that they had been watched the whole time by four WOOHP spies who had followed Trent and Jenny from the cafe, keeping a discreet distance and taking cover behind some rocks so they would not be seen.
"Far-out! Did you guys see that?" gasped Daphne, who had initially been skeptical about spying on Trent and his girlfriend, but now had to admit that Sam's hunch was right.
"Yeah, Trent really put Mandy in her place there," said Clover with an amused expression, as the four girls came out from hiding.
"But how did Trent pull that stunt with the raincloud?" asked a baffled Alex.
"Obvious, isn't it?" said Sam rather more seriously. "Trent really does have the magic lamp!"
Meanwhile, Dash Dawson had just managed to reach the penthouse apartment of Caron de Verley, who was delighted to see his criminal cousin again. Soon the men were sitting in the lounge sipping glasses of brandy, as Dawson explained his recent escapades to Caron, leading up to the details of how he lost the lamp, which rather amused de Verley.
"Sacré bleu, how embarrassing for you, dear cousin, to be thwarted by a simple pigeon!" chuckled Caron, who looked quite sophisticated in his outfit, which included a blue velvet jacket, a white frilly shirt and a pair of dark brown trousers.
"Tell me about it," grumbled Dawson. "So cousin, can you help me out or not?"
"Now, let me first make sure I have all the details of the problem correct," said Caron. "Now this young student has managed to get his hands on a mystical lamp that you managed to steal and lose, and so you have to steal it back again, right?"
"Yes, that's right."
"And in addition to this little problem, the very girls who once locked you up are in the same area, possibly about to recover the lamp themselves. Therefore, they must be dealt with as well, yes?"
"Exactly."
Caron gave a confident smile. "Well, I can't see it being that difficult. It all seems quite simple to me. Here is what we shall do. I will send these WOOHP girls an anonymous message stating that you are hiding out in some lone, isolated area. This will, at the very least, mean that they will have to divide their forces. And once they reach the meeting place, one of my employees will be there, preparing an ambush."
Dawson gave a humourless laugh. "They're bound to think it's a trap. They're not stupid you know!"
"Of course they'll suspect it's a trap," responded Caron, "but with so much at stake, I'm sure they'd decide to send at least some of their team to investigate. Now, while they're being distracted, my associates and I will be working to recover the lamp, along with its current owner. Agreed?"
Dawson considered this plan for a second, than reluctantly nodded. "Fine, though I'm still not convinced it'll work."
"Oh it will, it will," assured Caron. "Now here are the details of my plan..."
