Kaito's Pov
"That and I stole your phone" She said, holding it up with a mischievous grin.
My hand subconsciously reached for my pocket to see if it was there, it had been replaced by a blank playing card with a red rose printed on the back,"how, when? I'll find out eventually."
She walked over to me and handed over the phone, she looked around the room first at the counter (no one was behind it though because Jii-chan was playing a game of nine ball by himself), then at the wall where the gem encrusted cue stick hung, she then walked over to where there were four people playing pool, one group of 2 playing classic, one man playing nine ball, and lastly Jii who was playing alone. She took one look at him playing, smiled, and walked up to him.
"It's a fine establishment you have here sir, "She said, extending her hand to Jii.
He jumped a little and shook her hand," Thank you child, Have you come here before?"
That's she's never been here. How'd she know, did Saguru tell her? I looked over at Saguru to see that he was just as confused as I was.
"Why does everyone look so confused?" Aoko asked, breaking the silence.
"Excellent question my dear friend," The girl said walking over to where we stood,"Perhaps it's because I've never once come here and yet somehow I was able to pinpoint the owner without saying a word."
"Then how did you?" Aoko said not really knowing what to say next.
"That was easy. I'm just disappointed that Saguru didn't pick up on it," she said.
"Ah hey that's not fair," Hakuba butted in.
She laughed to herself," Okay then, tell me how I knew. You're supposed to be the famous detective here, if you're really as great as they say prove it you should be able to."
Saguru's pov
When Isabelle had picked out the owner of Blue parrot without even meeting him she drew the slight attention of the other people there, after saying the words 'famous detective' I had the undivided attention of everyone in the room. I could feel their eyes focus on me, almost burning holes in my chest and back. The room fell silent.
I crossed my arms the way I always did when deep in thought. "Now where was it that she was looking?" I walked over to the counter, there was a [coffee] vacuum pot and seven glass mugs all in a row, "Elementary."
"Enlighten us, tell me how I did it," She said with a grin.
"Easy, when you walked over to the counter you couldn't help but notice the row of glass mugs, now if you were looking at them from the other side of the counter straight on at a perpendicular angle the handle of each mug roughly at a 140 degree angle, this indicates that the person who normally serves behind the counter is right handed, this singled out the gentleman playing alone for he was playing with his left hand not his right," I walked over to the wall where there was a well decorated pool cue hanging,"Now over here there is a cue stick decorated with various gems, a trophy no doubt, you can tell by the way it proudly hangs on the wall for everyone to see this could only belong to a master of the game, so all you'd simply had to do was carefully observe everyone at play. Now if this served to fail and you still couldn't tell there's one more thing you could look at, that would be the left hand, now due to the unique way of holding a cue stick you should find a mark on a professional's non dominant hand, under the index finger and on top of the middle, it may be faint but it should be there this is due to the friction made by the pool cue over continuous game play. Now am I wrong?"
"Yeah you're right," Bella said with a small chuckle.
"That's amazing, I didn't know you could learn so much from so little," Aoko said.
"It's really not that hard, all it takes is a sharp eye and a knowledgeable mind."
"No kidding, your girlfriend figured it out, I bet she'd have a better chance of catching Kid than you," Kaito teased.
"She's not my girlfriend."
The other men in the room went back to their games.
"Your blushing."
"Kuroba Kaito, It's rude to assume that kind of thing you know. After all is was only to cover up the fact that you weren't paying attention during class because you were too busy reading an article about a fire that consumed a museum in London ten years ago," I said," Besides why would I like her."
"How'd you know what I was reading?" Kaito asked a little scared and confused.
Isabelle's pov
"Oh I see Kaito's the rude one," I turned to Saguru,"What did you mean by that, you better not be getting cocky with me, wise guy. If I were you I'd be careful your case count's almost as big as your ego."
Kaito gave a 'ha zing' in the background.
"Your weird in the best way possible, I think it's quite charming actually," he said, trying to save the conversation from turning into war.
"You think, I don't care what you think. If anything you're the weird one, but you want to know what I think?"
"Please stop, I don't want to fight with you."
"Stop? Stop, you want me to stop, well I'll tell you this, I'll make my words simple so you can understand. Get off your high horse and look around you. You're better than this, It's no wonder you haven't accomplished anything because you've been too focused on yourself, focusing on making yourself look good rather than what needs to be done. All this attention has gotten to your head Saguru, you need to learn to accept it when you're wrong and not try to hide it. I know you, but this, this isn't like you," I said getting up and heading to the door.
"You're not leaving, are you?" Saguru asked, grabbing my arm.
I looked him in the eyes, " What's the point, It's depressing to see someone you care about become merely a shell of the person they once were," With that he released me and watched as opened the door,"Oh one more thing my father wants to meet you at your mother's cafe tomorrow evening to discuss something," I closed the door behind me and stepped out into the cold sleeting weather. 'Why, why did it have to go like this, I-I' the tears I couldn't hold them back any more, I could feel their warmth rolling down the sides of my face as I walked through the crowds of people, each one of them striving to get inside somewhere warm. Watching all of these busybodys moving about made me wonder how many had someone they'd return to, someone to greet them with a hug as they entered their home, how many who had someone who cared.
