Saguru's pov

I woke up to the sound of the grandfather clock down the hall chiming the half hour. I pushed back the covers, and made my way to the french door that led to the veranda. Pulling back the lavender and pastel green curtain revealed a soft blanket of snow that had fallen that night, making twilight stretch it's faint arms around the unlit rose garden. This was my favourite time of day, these quiet hours before daybreak. Watson stirred from within his cage.

"Funny how such a scene can make you feel so tranquil, ey Watson?" I said, opening the other two curtains to let the natural light in.

He stared at me blankly, then over at my desk chair, slung over it was my school uniform, Watson let out a little squawk and began cleaning his feathers with his beak.

"I guess you're right I should get ready for school," I said with a sigh as I started to get ready for the day.

I hastily got dressed and went down stairs. Wandering down the mock Victorian halls of lavender and light green, I made my way to the kitchen. Mother had gone to culinary school back in London before she met my father, she did all of the cooking herself because she hated it when other people did things for her, I guess that's where I get it from, Baya was the exception however she's like family after all.

"Good morning my little angel," Mother said as took a seat at the kitchen table.

"Good morning mother," I replied gazing out the sliding door that led out to the back garden,"Uh...Would it be alright if I walked to school today mum?"

She came over to the table with a plate of french toast and assorted fruits,"Hm...Well I'd be alright with that, but why?"

I turned my head to look at her, I could feel the heat rising in my face, I looked away,"Well Bella transferred to Edoka the other day, she decided to travel abroad and is staying in a flat only a block away from here. Yesterday I took her to some of the other kids in the class so they could get to know her, but we kinda got in a fight and she left early, I-I want to make it up to her, not only for yesterday but for leaving so abruptly," It took an insane amount of willpower just to say that, and by the time it had all left my mouth my brain was 'bout as fried as my breakfast.

"Aw how sweet, you must really like her then," Father said, walking into the kitchen.

I could feel the blush and it felt like my heart was doing cardio,"W-what no. No no no no. Why would you say that?"

He laughed in delight,"Don't try to deny it I know you've had a thing for her ever since you were little," He teased.

"That was a rhetorical question," I said getting up from my seat to get a cuppa,"Besides if anything she's like a sister to me, I-I wouldn't push it past that," I said beginning to get quite annoyed.

"Sister huh? Guess that makes me a monkey's uncle," He said with a grin.

"Besides I'm sure she likes some other guy, And if I did like her I'd probably end up as another guy she hates. By the way, that's yesterday's paper," I said pointing to the newspaper he had just begun to read, anything to change the subject

"So it is."

I finished my breakfast and grabbed my book bag from the kitchen table,"Today's paper is on the island counter in case you're wondering. I'll see you after school, adieu," I said making my way out of the house.

My ears stung as the cold air nipped at them with it's harsh early spring breeze. I felt guilty as I walked through the virgin snow, it had remained untouched till my path had disrupted it. There was at least a centimetre or two lying on the ground the only thing you could really do with it would be having a snowball fight, it reminded me of two years back when I was still in London Isabelle, Mark, Michael(her cousins), and myself had built an Igloo by piling up snow and hollowing it out afterwards we all went inside to warm up by the fire. Two years seemed like a long time ago, I used to be so awkward, then again just about everyone was. My first case was two years ago, I still remember how the inspector said I was cute, I still remember his shocked expression when I revealed the culprit's trick, but most of all I still remember how Bella had encouraged me to continue with my deductions despite the negative commentary. She had always been like that, encouraging and inspiring.

Isabelle's pov

A knock came on my flat door. I quickly threw on my sailor blouse and skirt and left the bedroom, past the kitchenette and through the living area to the door. I looked through the peephole, It was Saguru. Guilt welled up inside of me, piercing like a sharpened knife. I opened the door.

"Look Isabelle I'm sorry-"Saguru started to say.

"You shouldn't be apologizing, I should be. Come inside before you catch a cold," I said letting him inside I closed the door behind him,"I'm sorry I yelled at you yesterday, it's just that when you left it hurt so much, I felt so alone."

"Princess," Saguru said, taking my hand into his,"I'd never do anything to hurt you, never, I want you to know that." His eyes seemed to sparkle a dazzling blue, like the sky on a midsummer's day, and told me that everything he said was true. He gently smiled at me, not the forced smile he always had when he was on the news or in the paper, but a genuine smile.

I could feel my face grow warm, I was blushing wasn't I, I didn't really feel embarrassed though. With a gentle nod he let go of my hand.

"Did your father leave earlier?" He said looking around the room.

"Huh.. oh ... no, He's staying in a five star hotel in the downtown area, but he'll be leaving Wednesday," I told Saguru.

"You know what, I'm not surprised."

I walked over to the washroom to tidy up my frizzy mop of hair, I made a french braid on either side of a middle part, and since my hair was long enough I could wrap the two pigtails under and over each other to make a ring of braid around the crown of my head.

"I already had breakfast this morning so I'm ready to leave when you are," I said, with a grin.
