Saguru's pov

As the inspector pulled aside any possible witnesses I walked up to the front of the cafe. By the door to the left stood a podium in which was a shelf with two binders on it, one kept record of the employee's check in and check out times, the other kept track of customers tables, and whether or not they've checked out. A simple system that will give me some answers.

"What's that?"Kaito asked as I scanned the pages of the latter book.

"A record book, hopefully it'll give me time he checked in after that we may be able to get a more accurate time of death. If not we'll at least know where he sat, fingers crossed the table hasn't been cleared."

It didn't take long to find his name among the others,"Checked in 3:32 table 13, 13 why am I surprised. Hmm he checked in half an hour before he was discovered, that's approximately 15 minutes before he died,"I said to Kaito just as Conan-kun joined our little group.

"What are you dong?" Conan asked, sweetly.

"Going to pay a visit to table 13,"I answered,"I wouldn't mind if you came, you have a sharp eye for detail."

Kaito grunted as the little boy happily skipped alongside us.

"Mouri-san keeps insisting it's suicide,"Conan stated.

I furrowed my brow,"Really? Even an amateur could see it's too early to tell. One mustn't come to such conclusions before all the evidence is laid before him, otherwise it biases the end judgement,"I said, shaking my head.

To my surprise there was a man already sitting at the table, he looked to be in his mid to late fifties.

"Are you sure this is the right table?"Kuroba hissed in my ear.

"I'm certain,"I said as I walked up to the seat across from the man, the table was set for two, at the vacant seat there was a butter knife, clotted cream on the right side of the blade, the tea cup sat in it's saucer handle at a 240 degree angle,"Excuse me sir did you happen to be accompanied by a man named Evan Meijers?"

The man jumped at the question, he glanced around,"And who might you be?" he asked, avoiding my question.

"Basil Scotts, I work at the flower shop down the street,"I said with out hesitation.

These words seemed to set him at ease,"Please take a seat, I'm Nathanial Davidson," he said gesturing to the seat next to me.

"OH thank you, this is my best mate Kuroba Kaito and his brother Conan,"I said, walking over to Kaito,"Don't argue just play along,"I whispered in his ear.

He nodded and reluctantly sat down.

"Sir what happened to the man you were sitting with?" I asked.

"Why do you ask lad," Mr. Davidson responded.

"I-i g-guess I-it's because I-i'm a bit worried, t-tha... *sigh* I-It's just that I heard that name... floating around, the police said a-a man by the name Evan Meijers, when I saw that your companion was gone, I got worried t-that it might have b-been him. I'm sorry I didn't mean to trouble you,"I said with fake concern.

"Yes... I came here with my son-in-law, Evan, he asked to meet me here,"He said fixing his blazer so that it sat differently,"He seemed deeply troubled about the death of my daughter, Anna. She loved him so much, we never found out why she left. She loved this place, I can't imagine that they'd both take their lives,"He said, staring off.

I'd heard enough,"I'm sorry, I wish you well,"I said, getting up, with a bow we left.

"So they were married, there's something off about that man,"I said to Kaito as I marched toward the inspector who was arguing with Mouri-san.

"Inspector, I've told you the case is closed, it's suicide,"Mouri-san protested.

"It's too early to tell Kogoro,"Megure retorted.

"Excuse me Keibu-san, I was wondering what we know so far about Mr. Evan Meijers,"I said, breaking up the ongoing argument.

"Not much, only the name of his spouse, Anna Meijers. But we did find in his left hand his wedding ring why he wasn't wearing it I have no Idea," stated the Inspector.

"Isn't it obvious, Inspector, that's his note, Meijers committed suicide because he couldn't stand the loss of his wife,"Mouri-san persisted.

"Plausible,"I said,"But you shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet."

Mouri-san turned to me clenching his fists till his knuckles turned white.

"Do you mind if I take a look at this ring?"

"I mean it's just a wedding ring Hakuba-kun but if you insist," Megure said, making his way to a table on which were several plastic bags containing evidence, he picked one up and came back handing it to me.

"Thank you."

Inside the bag was a gold wedding ring, it was a larger size belonging to a male, the outside was scratched and dull on the inside was engraved a date, which only dated back a year.

"Odd,"I said, blatantly.

"What's odd?"Kaito and the inspector seemed to ask in unison.

I smiled slightly at the question the pieces are beginning to fall in place I just need evidence.

"Well are you going to tell us Goldie-locks or not,"Mouri-san said, impatiently.

"Do you mean to say that you don't find it odd that despite the fact that this ring is only a year old it's all scratched up as if someone neglected it, which only makes me believe he didn't care for his spouse at all. If he cared so deeply that he couldn't live with out her wouldn't he have taken better care of his own wedding ring. If this really was a suicide than there's some other motive,"I said, giving the bag back to the inspector.

"You know now would be a great time for Sleeping Kogoro,"The inspector said as I turned my back.

I took a seat at a vacant table Kuroba and Conan both followed.

I pressed my palms together in thought.

"You're still no farther than you were to begin with,"Kuroba said.

I closed my eyes,"Evidence, evidence, my deductions mean nothing without solid proof, there's nothing not even a stray fin-gerprint,"I said, a smirk forming on my face before I even knew what I said, I glanced behind me at Mr. Davidson, he had a bag next to him there was a bulge in his pocket. Officer Takagi walked past,"Ah Takagi."

He turned to look at me,"Yes."

"Did the forensic team search the washrooms?"

"Well yes they did but they didn't find anything even remotely out of the ordinary,"The officer replied.

"Good, tell the Inspector I have everything figured out."
