A/N: Well, guys, this is it. The ending of my Descendants of Storybrooke saga... Unless I decide to do a Christmas or Halloween special too, keep your eyes peeled for that. I'm not 100% sure if I'll do that or not, but I'm not saying it will never happen. You'll just have to wait and see, but if you're interested, let me know down in the comments if you don't mind. Even if you do mind, tell me otherwise, other than telling me to quit now because I don't have a snowball's chance or whatever. Anyway, after this, production will begin on Modern Fairy Tale Town if you happened to catch a glimpse of that, but let me know how this is so far. I've got big plans for this one this summer as I end this trilogy, but again, if you'd like to see more of this universe, just let me know and please ask me nicely otherwise I'll take your flames and use them to toast S'Mores.
It was close to the end of the school year and many students were pumped. The Summer School Games were coming quickly and Evie was excited to go to this year's Games, especially since they would be held in Emerald Acres this year and that was where her "cool Aunt Zelena" lived. She hadn't heard from her aunt in a long time, but she was looking forward to it, especially since she would get to introduce her to Mal, best friend and newly adoptive sister after Regina won the custody battle for Mal up against the latter's biological mother. Right now, the new family was on their way to school as Henry was looking through his big book of fairy tales which was something that always brought him great comfort as Mal sat with him in the backseat and Evie sat up front with her mother.
"So, kiddo, did you have fun at your Pizza Planet party last night?" Mal asked the boy, trying to make conversation with him.
"Oh, man, it was really intense," Henry said as he looked up from his book. "Laser Tag is war, Mal. It's war."
"Oh?" Mal asked, amused and intrigued by Henry's outlook with his imagination as a little kid.
"I'm serious!" Henry nodded. "Dizzy was almost out of the game when Ava came out from the corner to take her down... Until Danny dove in and saved Dizzy at the last second, sacrificing himself... And then Avery shot Ava right in the back when she wasn't looking. Dizzy said that Danny saved her life and considered him to be her hero. He told her to go on without her and she decided that she would never leave him while we had to keep going and fighting before our pizza would be cooked and Roland supervised us."
"Is that right?" Mal asked.
"Yeah, it's right," Henry replied. "Dizzy even kissed Danny on the cheek for saving her."
"Ooh~" Mal and Evie oohed at that.
"Yeah... I think Dizzy and Danny are gonna be okay from now on," Henry then continued, sounding like a war veteran when he talked about the simple game of Laser Tag. "Dee Dee was shot and even fell and got hurt, so I picked her up and saved her and put her in her seat so that we could all enjoy victory pizza."
"That was sweet of you, Henry," Evie smiled. "I bet Dee Dee feels lucky to have someone like you in her life."
"Yeah..." Henry nodded before looking down, seeming to blush. "And I feel lucky to have someone like her in my life too."
"Aww~" Mal and Evie then awed at that.
Henry then looked up and over while blushing a bit.
"Well, Dee Dee is a lovely girl," Regina commented before she began to pull up beside the school to drop them off. "Maybe you two can talk more about it at lunchtime."
"Yeah... Maybe..." Henry smiled sheepishly. "Ya know, if she wants to."
"And I'm sure that she will." Evie remarked.
"I have the same exact feeling," Mal agreed. "So... Summer School Games... That oughta be a lot of fun."
"I'm sure it will be," Regina replied. "As soon as your school can figure out who should handle the archery tournament for your school."
Evie looked like she suddenly thought about something. Something that she had wanted to share with and ask her mother for a long time.
"Well, here we are," Regina said. "Time for school."
"Thanks, Mom!" Mal and Henry said as they unbuckled their seatbelts and came to leave the car.
"Come on, Evie!" Mal said, noticing that her best friend hesitated.
"Well, go on, Evie," Regina added. "It's not like you to be late for school."
"Actually, you guys go on ahead," Evie said to Mal and Henry before looking at Regina. "I have to talk to you about something, Mom. Just you and me."
"Oh... Okay..." Regina said softly before calling out the window. "Mal, take Henry inside, please. This sounds important."
"Okay," Mal nodded. "Meet you inside, Evie."
"Got it." Evie replied.
Mal then went to take Henry inside the school as the other students were on their way inside, the younger kids were on the playground, or some just stood on the sidewalk, talking to each other until the class bell would ring for all of them.
"Okay, Evie, what is it?" Regina asked. "You're feeling okay, aren't you?"
"Yeah, Mom, I feel fine," Evie reassured. "It's just... I know Coach Merida covers archery for our school, but... I was just wondering."
"Yes?" Regina prompted, trying to be patient.
"...Could Mr. Bedford handle archery for our school against Emerald Acres?" Evie soon asked, turning around to face her mother.
"...Mr. Bedford?" Regina blinked in surprise.
"Yeah," Evie nodded. "I mean... He's so good at it. Robyn Jr is even an excellent archer just like him. I once saw Ms. Blanchard shoot an arrow awesomely and she's just a grade school teacher. So... If you don't mind?" she then asked. "Could you ask him for me?"
"Oh... Evie, I'll see about that," Regina said, thoughtfully before smiling a little bit. "I'll give him a call for you and we'll see what he says, okay? I can't promise anything right now, but I will call him."
"Okay. Thanks, Mom." Evie beamed in excitement.
"Of course, my little princess," Regina smiled. "Have a good day."
"Thanks, Mom. I'm sure I will." Evie smiled back, hugging her mother right away before she unbuckled her seatbelt and came to go and join Mal and Henry over at school.
Regina smiled warmly before she took a deep breath and began to drive away from the school to get herself ready for work. She could tell that this summer was going to be an interesting one, especially with Evie itching to see "Cool Aunt Zelena" during the Summer School Games, though she hadn't heard from her sister in quite a long time.
"Ready to go?" Mal asked Evie once the other girl came back from the car.
"Yeah, I'm good to go now," Evie nodded. "Sorry. Mom and I just needed to have a private talk."
"Is it about boys?" Henry piped up.
"You are such a little brat," Evie smirked playfully. "But no... Just some personal talk that only Mom and I could talk about."
Henry seemed to wince. "...Are you gonna turn into a monster once a month again with Mom?" he then asked. "It's gonna be worse with Mal living with us now."
Mal and Evie looked wide-eyed and blushed, knowing what Henry was talking about, but he seemed to have his own, child-like interpretation of it.
"It's like when Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolfman all show up in the same movie, except it's not awesome." Henry then added softly.
The school bell soon rang, luckily seeming to save Evie from having to explain herself any further.
"I'll tell you later, okay?" Evie suggested with a small smile as she put her arm around her little brother. "It's nothing bad though. I promise."
"Oh... Okay..." Henry nodded. "As long as it's not bad."
"It isn't," Evie smiled. "Now... Let's get you to Ms. Blanchard's class. I think since it's nice outside, one of your final assignments is gonna be building a birdhouse like in Mr. Geppetto's workshop."
"Okay, Evie," Henry smiled back. "Hopefully the last day of school comes soon. I know it's not that long away from now, but it feels like we've been in school forever."
"Yeah, well... At least your homework's easy." Mal smirked.
"Is not!" Henry pouted. "It's really hard! Have you ever seen a 'demical'?!"
Mal and Evie chuckled a little as they soon went inside the school.
"Oh, by the way, Mal... I have a favor," Evie spoke up. "I think this might help you get in the school spirit in time for The Summer School Games."
Mal looked curious as they walked into the school, taking Henry to his class before they would do what Evie suggested for them to do.
Soon, Mal and Evie were on their way over to the football field outside. Other students were shown to be sitting on bleachers while Audrey was in her head cheerleading uniform as Mal and Evie also donned said uniforms for themselves, though with a few alterations made by the young blue-haired fashionista, as they came to join her to get pumped and ready for the biggest event of the school's history that was The Summer School Games.
"I can't believe I let you talk me into doing this." Mal grumbled as she followed Evie down to the football field.
"What happened to 'Sure, best friend and new sister. Anything for you'?" Evie reminded and quoted.
"That was before I knew it would involve pom-poms." Mal rolled her eyes.
"Forget about the pom-poms and focus on the super awesome outfit I made with what Audrey loaned to us." Evie insisted with a small smile.
"It is pretty wicked, isn't it?" Mal admitted as she looked at the alterations that Evie had added, such as spiked bracelets. "I think that all cheerleading outfits should have spikes."
"Wow! You look great." Ben smiled as he approached Mal and Evie.
"Still not going to be your girlfriend again, Ben," Mal said to him. "I'm sorry about that."
"I understand, and me and Harry patched things up." Ben reassured calmly.
"Anyway, you know me... Anything to show my school spirit." Mal then shrugged innocently.
"Do the Summer School Games involve hitting people?" Jay asked hopefully as he walked over.
"No." Ben told him.
"Stealing?" Jay asked then.
"No... But feel free to put those ideas in the suggestion box." Ben replied.
"Will do!" Jay smirked before he soon took off running.
"This school has a suggestion box?" Mal asked Ben.
"No." Ben replied innocently.
"You lied to keep Jay from bugging you?" Mal teased.
"Well, I-" Ben smiled nervously.
"You'll make a hell of a boyfriend someday." Mal smirked as she crossed her arms.
"Oh... I don't know... I don't think I ever will..." Ben said softly and shyly. "After that fall-out with Audrey and losing you in front of the whole school, I guess I should just focus more on myself rather than just trying to impress someone else."
"Don't say that, Ben," Evie reassured. "Someone will come along. Takes more than looking to really see."
"Yeah?" Ben asked.
"Absolutely," Evie nodded. "Someday you'll be ready. And when you are, you'll find her." she then advised softly.
"Someday..." Ben repeated before sighing and shaking his head. "Nah. What could possibly ever change?" he then pondered.
"Trust me, Ben," Mal said softly. "I'm sure you'll find the right person right under your nose when you're least expecting it."
"Okay... I'll see you guys out there," Ben said before bumping into Keela by accident. "Oops! Sorry, Keela."
"Oh, it's okay," Keela said as she got out of his way. "I was in your way."
"It's okay..." Ben said before he soon walked away from Keela to let the girls get ready for their cheerleading practice.
"So... You guys know the cheer?" Audrey smirked as she stepped over, giving sheets of paper over to Mal, Evie, and Keela.
"You just gave it to us." Mal replied cynically.
"Everybody knows the cheer! We do it every year." Audrey smirked smugly as she stepped aside.
"Well, some of us are new around here, Audrey." Keela piped up as a reminder.
"Yeah. What she said." Mal added in agreement.
"Just watch and learn, rookies," Audrey told them. "It's up to me to lead our school to victory against Emerald Acres."
"You're gonna be going to The Summer School Games?" Mal asked.
"Well, of course I am," Audrey replied smugly. "Just like my big sisters before me. It's a proud family tradition and it would be a disgrace if I wasn't able to go."
"Didn't you get in a lot of trouble after the dance when you showed up late just as we ended the dance?" Evie spoke up.
"Oh, please... No one will care or pay attention to that minor detail," Audrey rolled her eyes. "Besides, that wasn't my fault."
Edward seemed to be hiding under the bleachers, narrowing his eyes almost suspiciously from where he was. He seemed to be setting his sights on Audrey for whatever reason as he crossed his arms from where he stood, hiding under the shadows, making him seem scarier than he already was.
"F-I-G-H-T! What's that spell? Fight, fight, fight!" Audrey soon cheered and clapped as she danced a little to show Mal, Evie, and Keela the cheer they had to preform for their school.
"This cheer sounds exactly like the poem my mom used to say to me when I was a kid," Mal commented to Evie before pondering to herself. "How does that go?"
Evie looked a bit curious as Keela seemed to be trying to copy Audrey.
"B-I-T and E, what does that spell?" Mal then began to recite.
"Bite, bite, bite!" Evie cheered, getting into the spirit with a playful smile.
"Speak no words, you'll cause a fright, If the bedbugs don't give you a bite, I'll put up a fight!" Mal then continued.
Evie laughed a little before looking sheepish. "Oh, I'm sorry," she then said softly. "I don't mean to laugh at you. That's just kinda funny... In a bit of a dark way."
"That's my mother's sense of humor for you," Mal shrugged with a small smirk before sighing. "...I know what she did to me, but I kinda miss her."
"That's understandable," Evie said softly. "It's okay though, Mal. You don't have to worry about her anymore, I promise. If you keep worrying about the past, you'll never see your future."
"I guess that's a good point," Mal nodded. "...You get that from a fortune cookie or something?" she then asked.
"Ben's uncle once said it." Evie replied.
"Wow..." Mal blinked. "Never would've expected that from him. He creeps ME out and I'm... Well... Me."
Evie giggled a little which made Mal smirk before laughing too.
"Excuse me, but this is cheer practice time, not storytime." Audrey glared as she approached the two with her hands on her hips.
"Sorry, Audrey~" Evie and Mal replied innocently.
"Now if you're going to procrastinate and not get with the problem, I'll have to find other cheerleaders. I'm sure anyone would be willing to take your place... Mal," Audrey said before flashing a snarky glare. "Some others have more potential than you."
Mal narrowed her eyes in response.
"Besides... This is cheerleading, not fearleading," Audrey continued with a smug smirk. "With the way you'd go on, it'd be frightening and interesting to see you with the other cheerleaders before we all go to Emerald Acres."
"Hmph... Whatever, Audrey... Gosh!" Mal groaned and crossed her arms. "All right... I'll do it your way."
"That's better," Audrey smirked and nodded. "Let's get to work."
"Man, summer vacation can't come sooner." Mal whispered to Evie.
"You're telling me." Evie whispered back.
Audrey soon continued to lead the girls through cheerleading. However, unknown to them, besides the mysterious Mr. Edward Hyde, someone else was watching them behind the bleachers who seemed to have a bit of a wicked smirk on his face as he watched Audrey closely. This was going to be an interesting summer in Auradon Heights, Storybrooke. Just you wait and see.
