Vein Bloodborne: Here you go!
Guest: To be frank, it's pretty unlikely that any more heroes in the Sonic cast are going to show up in this story, but who knows? Stay tuned!
Chapter Six
AC/DC music blared throughout the lab as Tony busied himself with the numerous holograms in front of him, making plans and reading up on documents.
It had all started when Sonic had gotten ready to go on his morning run.
The two had initially idly chatted about the state of the teleporter's construction, but then they had switched to yet another chat about more life stories. As they chattered, Tony had told him about the Accords debacle and Sonic had elaborated on the time the police had sent a giant murder-truck to get him because they confused him with some other Mobian.
...Needless to say, Tony had questioned the mental stability of the law enforcement.
But then the hedgehog had also casually stated that he'd been able to escape death in a pod that was rigged to explode by teleporting away using a fake Chaos Emerald his younger brother had whipped up- and by the way, Tony seriously would have loved to meet him and talk tech.
Digression aside, a proverbial lightbulb in Stark's head had gone off and the inventor quickly steered the discussion to how 'Chaos Energy' worked. While the creature from Mobius hadn't known too much about the fine inner workings of the energy, he knew just enough to give Tony an idea.
Stark hypothesized that the fake Emerald likely functioned as just a simple source of Chaos Energy with a fancy outer covering. So, if Tony made something that could actively produce enough gigawatts of output- granted, if it was an energy Sonic could harness... Voila.
So here the Golden Avenger was, manipulating holograms with a flick of his wrist. He'd pulled up all the information he could find on several possible types of energy.
Unfortunately Tony hadn't personally gotten his hands on a Chaos Emerald yet, so the man didn't have much concrete info besides theories and word-of-mouth, so the process would drag on quite a bit.
'Whatever', he mentally dismissed, sipping on a cup of coffee. He'd still make it work. Maybe he would invite Peter over next weekend, seeing as even he could admit that two geniuses were better than one.
As a side project, he was seriously toying with the idea of giving Sonic a suit of his own, spitballing ideas for potential gear for the blue hedgehog. A costume consisting of a special polymer that was durable enough to withstand hard collisions and blunt-force trauma plus some bullet resistance as well- for the last time he'd seen a speedster go up against guns it hadn't exactly gone well. At all.
It was mostly just a few ideas here and there, though.
At any rate, the hours passed by in tireless work and calculations until FRIDAY spoke up.
"Incoming call from James Rhodes."
Tony looked up. "Put him on."
A mere second later, the music ceased to play and a voice piped up.
"Tony?"
"Hey, Platypus!" greeted Tony. "Finally decided to call?"
"Yeah, yeah," said Rhodey, "How's Pepper?"
"She's doing good. Your braces working fine?"
"They're helping me get around, so I can't complain."
Stark hummed. "So.. What's up?"
It was a cloudy yet normal Wednesday afternoon in Queens.
People were going about their daily lives.
The occasional birds were soaring through the skies.
And a certain red and blue figure was swinging through the city at a leisure pace.
Peter, savoring the wind whipping onto his costume as he soared from building to building on an afternoon after-school patrol, weighing two options on his mind: Ponder on the stuff that happened this week, or escape from it all.
To recap, he'd aced most of his tests, Flash had irritated him somewhat less throughout the school day, and, the week before, he'd stopped a robbery alongside a superhero from another planet- which, by the way, he'd definitely 'written home' to Happy about by means of his numerous reports.
Nothing much had happened today, however; Besides stopping a car robbery and helping a woman put her groceries into her car, the day was quite uneventful.
That was until he latched onto a building and a rather familar voice called out to him.
"Hey, Spider-Man!"
The aforementioned Spider-Man turned to the source of the voice, looking down and seeing a certain blue hedgehog waving at him.
Peter's eyes widened behind the mask and he dropped down, landing with an almost inaudible thud in front of the visitor.
"Sonic?" he asked. The alien hedgehog held up a fist, which Peter bumped. "What are you doing here- y'know, in Queens?"
"Nothing much, just having a run." said Sonic, putting a hand on his hip. "Got held up a little, though. How's patrolling so far?"
"It's going pretty well today, nothing major, though I stopped a guy from stealing a car.."
The two walked away, leaving the alley behind whilst still chatting. Soon, they quickened their pace and Peter began swinging through the city, whilst Sonic had scaled the nearest rooftop and began hopping from rooftop to rooftop as usual.
"...Wait, so you had an entire ceiling dropped on you?" The hedgehog asked, alarmed. The heroes had begun chatting about past experiences, and naturally, the whole Toomes incident came up.
"Yeah. I was trying to stop him then was like 'I'm sorry, Peter' and then he broke all the building supports and the whole thing fell on me. I mean, yeah, it sucked, but I made it out and stopped the bird guy, so..."
He glanced at Sonic and found that the hedgehog was still sending him a concerned look.
"Hey, didn't you survive a bunch of cave-ins, too?" Peter shot back.
"Yeah, but I didn't have to lift the entire ceiling! At worst I got hit by some falling rocks."
As an afterthought the speedster added, "Man, remind me to invite you and Knuckles to an arm wrestle sometime."
Spider-Man shot another web forward, his curiosity resurfacing once again.
"So what is Knuckles like?" Asked the human, inquisitively, "You never really explained that."
"Well, he's a bit of a loner, kinda gullible too, but boy you do not wanna tick him off. He actually knocked me senseless when I first met him."
"Really?"
"Yep. I'm cruising through an island and juiced up on some energy then boom- the knucklehead just knocks the emeralds out of me with one hit. Can't blame him, though- ol' Egghead tricked him into thinking that I was the bad guy."
"Huh."
"Yeah, that was a whole thing."
The webhead was going to respond to that when Karen abruptly spoke up:
"Peter, I'm detecting a potential mugging a few blocks from here."
Finally, some action! "Alright! Thanks, Karen!"
If the suit lady could smile, she would be doing so. "You're welcome, Peter."
Turning in the direction of the crime scene which was neatly marked on the screen, Spider-Man shouted "Sonic, there's a crime up ahead!"
The hedgehog obligingly changed course, jumping off of the rooftop and following the teen to the commotion in an alley. "Got it!"
The duo eventually stopped at a rooftop above the alley, watching what was taking place.
"...Hand over the money, and you don't get hurt." a man dressed in black had been saying, glinting knife drawn. His partner in crime, another man with orange clothes, stood beside him whilst their victim- a small scruffy teen, cowered in front of them.
Peter got to work, climbing down from the roof and hopping down, making a perfect landing.
"Hey, you probably shouldn't be mugging random people on the street, man!" he stated as the thugs snapped their gazes to him. "They're just trying to mind their business, y'know?"
At that, both of the thugs bum-rushed him and Spidey braced himself for action..
Until a blue spinball dropped in, landing on the head of Orange and knocking him to the ground. Grateful for the assist, Spider-Man ducked to avoid a swipe from Black and jumped up, jutting out his leg. The body soared through the sky as a result of the hit, landing on the ground beside Sonic.
"Well, that was too easy!" noted the hedgehog, rubbing the underside of his nose.
"Yeah." responded Peter, getting to work and webbing up the goons.
At that point, his sixth-sense lightly pricked up. It wasn't a serious warning, just a light, slightly hair-raising sensation. It was as though something was watching them...
A faint buzzing sound could then be heard and the two heroes turned to see what appeared to be a small, blue, wasp-like robot hovering above the both of them.
"Oh, boy." stated Sonic, sighing dreadfully.
That's a wrap for now, folks! Any reviews and critiques would be very much appreciated! Have a nice day!
