Welcome back everyone! It's time for another update! Sorry for taking a break on you guys, but I just needed to let my batteries refresh! I've got some other projects going on right now, but I figured I'd finally get around to updating this one!

1TGN: It's certainly a very fluffy experience for everyone involved! We'll have to see what they get up to in the future!

Singerj199: I wanted to keep Tails somewhat similar to his curious self, and it's good to hear that's been going well!

AndTails: He's still the same fox we're used to, just a bit more fluffy this time around!

The Eccentric Nomad: There's some plans to get the other animals involved a bit, but mostly, it's just going to be these two for now!

Ieju: Yeah, they can really only speak to others of their same species, which creates a very interesting dynamic for our duo!

LauraP11: They've certainly become friends quickly, and that's a good thing!

Noonui: As to what's going to happen to our fox friend with his new cage, you'll have to find out this chapter!

Perturbo: Tails and Sonic's blep is very adorable, and hopefully they will get up to adorable things soon!

Wingwolffly: Their dynamic is certainly interesting and you'll have to read to see how it unfolds!

Myles Miller: I do actually! Here's your next chapter!

Feem: Well you don't have to wait any longer!

Let's get going!

Situation Changes

Day 5:

Having reviewed the camera footage from the previous night. It would seem that the hedgehog specimen known as Sonic, has become friends with the fox specimen against all the laws of nature. There's something odd about this fox, and due to his recent behavior, I've gone to call him Tails.

The new cage for him arrived today, but the events of the previous nights have raised some suspicions about where exactly this specimen was acquired from. Perhaps I'll need to do a little bit of my own digging to find out.

Sonic was once again excited; he was ready to go on the next big adventure with his new found friend. As night descended upon the lab once more, he listened for the sound of quiet footsteps to reach his ears as it had the other nights. As time passed, he noticed that his friend was taking longer than usual, and hadn't actually shown up yet. Figuring that it was simply taking him a minute, he decided to wait for his friend a bit longer. Only for him to hear soft whimpers cry out. Sonic was almost certain it was his new friend, which begged the question of why his friend was so distressed. Sonic hoped that the scientist hadn't done anything to the fox when they'd gotten caught last night.

Pressing himself against the bars to try and get a better look proved fruitless, the cage was in another room anyways, but from the quiet sound of the whines, he knew something had to be wrong.

Suddenly, it hit him. His friend was stuck! Which explained why it was taking so long for him to show up and break Sonic out, he couldn't get out! Sonic began to worry, what happened if his friend could never get out? What if he never saw his friend again?

These questions plagued the mind of the hedgehog as he ran around his cage, trying to get some of the answers and to release the worries from his head. His fox friend let out another set of soft whimpers from the other room. Rather than the distressed ones from earlier however, these seemed to almost be cries of defeat more than anything else. Either way, Sonic came to the conclusion, he wasn't going to get to see his friend tonight. He himself was unable to reach the latch that secured his cage shut, let alone be able to do the same to something the fox that normally opened it for him was unable to, and that was assuming he could even reach him in the first place. Sonic quietly resigned himself to sleep, hoping that tomorrow would at least find some way to return to their regular nightly visits.

Day 6:

There was no escape from the two troublemaking animals last night, although the fox specimen seemed notably distressed when he could not escape his cage. Perhaps keeping the two of them separated was a bad idea after all... I will try to place the two of them in a shared confinement tonight to see how that works. I trust the two of them won't cause any problems considering their history.

My searching into the fox specimen seemed to lead to some undisclosed event in the past that eventually led to his capture. What this event was is still unknown to me at this time, but I will continue my search and update my findings here.

Sonic was confused, at around the time the scientist that watched him was about to leave for the night, he instead moved to pick up the hedgehog's cage and began to carry him somewhere. At first the hedgehog was concerned, this hadn't happened before, and it left him wondering where exactly he was being taken. Still, it was hopefully a change of scenery at least, he just hoped that his fox friend could still locate him once he figured out how to break out of his cage again. However, as the hedgehog was brought into another room, he found himself looking at the fox, who seemed rather happy to see him.

The room he'd been brought into was empty for the most part, save for the cage in the center of the room which housed the fox. Seeing his friend, the hedgehog grew excited, they hadn't seen each other for a while now. This excitement seemed to be mirrored on the face and actions of his friend as well. This only grew as the man placed Sonic inside the cage with the fox.

Looking back to the scientist as he left, he wasn't sure what exactly had spurred this change, but he didn't mind at all. The fox bumped the hedgehog with his nose, prompting Sonic to turn to his friend. The fox spun around in anticipation for what the two would do. The hedgehog however, was quite tired. While he was excited to be with his friend, he didn't quite have the energy to play right now. He laid down in an attempt to sleep, only to be met with another bump of his fox friend's nose.

The hedgehog was mildly irritated, but quickly, the fox seemed to realize what was going on. He too was a bit tired, and so he spun around and curled up into a ball, gripping his tails around himself. He peeked out at the hedgehog, who slowly made his way over and clambered up atop his friend, settling into the warm orange fur. He slowly drifted off to sleep as the fox did the same.

Day 7:

No trouble from either specimen last night, although they did seem to fall asleep quickly after I left them together in the cage. As for my findings concerning the fox pup, I did find something… Quite disturbing concerning his origins. I will record my findings here as I've been specifically told not to disclose this information to the public.

Tails is an escapee from a genetic experimentation test, the test was designed in order to attempt to develop animals that might be more useful to humankind. However, most of the time they resulted in horrible grotesque mutations that caused issues with the specimens. Tails was apparently one of many subjects but it had seemed his mutation was quite stable and sustainable, as such, he had been entrusted to several geneticists before reaching me. I do not know the fate of the others…

It appears we will have a storm tonight, and I hope the laboratory will be fine in my absence. Concerning our new found discovery however, I think it may be worth seeing if the fox is capable of having children. I have requested for another fox specimen and they should be arriving soon. I will continue to look into his previous information for additional findings however.

After the scientist had left for the day, Sonic turned to his fox friend, who looked over at him in anticipation. The fox initially tried to paw his way out of his cage again, only to find no success. While he seemed somewhat defeated, Sonic cocked his head at his curiously, before sticking his tongue out slightly at the fox. The kit laid down in the cage, looking at the hedgehog and did the same.

Sonic could hear what he recognized as rain hitting the window of the room they were in, suddenly, a loud crack of thunder and a flash of lightning filled the room. The fox with him yelped in surprise as he retreated to the corner of the cage, curling up into a ball and wrapping his tails around himself, trembling with fear.

Sonic was concerned, he knew his friend was scared, but of what? After a moment, another flash of lightning happened and he had his confirmation as it only seemed to terrify the kit more. Sonic quickly made his way over to the fox and tried to climb atop him, failing once and falling onto his back before succeeding. Now atop his friend, he gently curled into a ball and laid down, the action seemed to comfort the fox a bit as he stared out at the hedgehog. Sonic laid his head on the fox's fur, trying to tell him that it would be alright. He seemed to somewhat get the intended meaning of his message, and in response, the trembling seemed to calm down.

Sonic was curious as to why the fox was so scared of lightning, he personally didn't mind it, though he knew the rain that came with it did always get him wet, which he was quite unhappy with. Still lightning wasn't something to be scared of right?

As he sat atop the warm, still somewhat trembling form of the fox with him, he came to a sudden realization, he had become quite good friends with the fox over the past few days. Something he would have considered impossible before had now become a reality, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Alright everybody, that's it for this chapter! Let me know what your thoughts were and I'll see you next time!
