SECRET ORIGINS Part 6 – Frosta

2018:

Winter Snow, a young 10 year old girl, was waiting for her mother to get home. Her mother was Caitlyn Snow, also known as the infamous Killer Frost. Who was currently in jail again.

Winter had been playing around with her own cryomancy abilities, which she had recently begun developing. As soon as they began to appear, her skin became much paler and her hair turned blue. She liked to keep it cut short in a pixie cut. She knew that her mother would want her to start joining on her crime sprees. She had NO desire to go down the same path as her mother, and had already made plans to confront her. It wasn't going to be easy but she had decided if her mother wouldn't listen, she'd run away, and find a much better home.

Right on cue, Killer Frost returned through the door and stretched. "Do those idiots honestly think they can ever hold me. Winter, dear, I'm home." she announced, looking for her daughter. Winter was indeed waiting for her. "Something wrong?"

"Yeah mom, something is wrong." she said, grumpily. "How many freaking times am I gonna have to wait and take care of myself when you're in jail." she yelled.

Caitlyn rolled her eyes. "It's not my fault the Justice League-" she began, but Winter didn't let her finish.

"IT IS YOUR FAULT!" she angrily yelled. "YOU'RE the one who keeps going on crime sprees! You don't HAVE to! You coulda used your powers for something so much better! Not being a lying, thieving, murderous FREAK!" She reamed her mother out harshly, keeping an arm behind her back as she began to coat her hand in a hammer of ice.

Caitlyn growled, approaching her daughter. "Young lady, you will NOT speak to your mother that way!" she said, getting really close.

"Mom all I want is for you to ACT like my actual mother for once." Winter replied, keeping her calm.

"You're on the way to a grounding young-" Caitlyn began. At this moment, Winter realized shew wasn't gonna see reason, and swung the hammer, striking her mother across the face with it as hard as she could. It managed to, rather impressively, knock her out in a single strike, and Winter ran to her room, packing up her clothing. Before her mother woke up, she was packed and escaped out the window, sliding on a path she made of ice in front of her. She quickly made a beeline out of town with her ice-slide, moving at faster speeds than she realized possible. She had a single minded focus on getting as FAR away from her supervillain mother as possible. And she was happy to be on her way to a new life.

Washington, DC. Several Weeks Later

Winter had reached Washington a few days ago and was doing her best to stay under the radar for the time being. She didn't want anyone to find her and figure out her connection to Killer Frost, so she'd taken to moving around a lot, and using her powers to haphazardly wash her clothing. She'd freeze it and let it melt, then let it hang-dry until she moved on. She was also trying to figure out where she'd go from here. She couldn't stay on the run for much longer, and would likely need to find SOMEWHERE to stay.

She didn't have to wonder long however, as one morning, she had slept much longer than she intended, and woke up to someone looking down at her. She yeled and jumped back, instinctively forming Ice fists and getting into a protective stance. To her surprise, the person spoke rather sweetly to her.

"Oh dear, are you alone young one?" the woman asked, walking closer.

"I'm….I run away from home." she replied, "I'm not going back!"

The tall, tanned woman looked at her confused. "How come?" she asked.

Winter sighed, and just told the woman. "My mom is a super-villain. I hate her."

The woman nodded, "Judging by your….abilities it was Killer Frost. I can understand not wanting to live with someone like that." the woman said, giving Winter a sweet look. "Do you have somewhere to stay?"

"N-No I don't….why?" she asked.

"Come with me. I can take care of you." the woman said, offering her hand to Winter.

Winter hesitated for a moment, and asked her, "Why do you want to help me?"

"Because," the woman replied. "I can't just leave a child out in the cold. Besides, my daughter would like you. My name is Angela Moon, whats yours?"

The young girl reached over and took her hand gently. "Winter Snow. It's very nice to meet you."

"I'm gonna get ya, Angie!" Winter shouted out with a giggle, as she and Angie played tag, running around the house. As Winter jumped to grab Angie, she teleported out of the way making Winter tumbled along the ground. :hey! No Teleporting!" she yelled.

"Never said that was a rule Snowflake!" Angie said with a laugh, and she turned to run again. Winter smirked and froze her feet to the ground, causing her to flop on her face with a yelp.

"Then I can use my powers too Angie~" Winter replied, pouncing on and wrestling with the older girl. The two went at it for a while before Michael and Angela entered the room, clearing their throats. The two girls quickly jumped up to their feet, Winter giving Angie a punch on the arm.

"What's up mom?" Angie asked, trying to figure out the smiles on her mother and father's faces.

Angela looked over at Winter, "We've just got back from filling out some paperwork, making things official."

Winter gave a weird look, so Michael continued for his wife. "We were signing adoption papers, Winter." Both Winter and Angie's eyes lit up when they heard the word Adoption. "Welcome to the family, Winter Moon."

2021:

Winter had seen her sister on the news very frequently. Despite being a complete Show-off, Angie had become a fairly successful superhero. Winter idolized her big sister, and wanted to help her out, especially seeing as she had superpowers of her own. Without her new parents knowing, Winter began to work on a new costume in her spare time. She took a little inspiration from her...birth mother. At the very least, the color scheme. She initially toyed around with the idea to use a winter-themed outfit, a fur coat and everything. Then she realized it would be WAY too hot, even with her powers.

She toyed around with an outfit similar to Elsa from that Disney movie, but she absolutely hated the idea of wearing a dress, Also Angie would NEVER let her live it down. Snowflake patterns were rejected for looking much too corny. Eventually though, she thought she had the PERFECT costume figures out. Now she just needed a name.

Angie was in the middle of stopping a robbery downtown, and found herself outnumbered. Despite blinking around to take out the robbers as fast as possible, she was beginning to wear herself out. She had, admittedly, been stopping crimes all day and was likely almost out of energy. "This went from safe to insane in a frigging hurry!" she said to herself, rolling into cover. Suddenly, one of the gunmen's weapons was frozen solid. "What the? Frozen? Who could- Oh you gotta be fucking kidding me..." she realized.

Winter slid down on her Ice-Slide and raised an ice wall, smiling widely at Angie in her brand new costume. It was a blue top with icicle trim down the middle, along the arms and across the chest, a Silver belt, a white skirt and Deep blue pants. She wore white gloves that went a bit past her wrists, white boots halfway up her shin, and a Tiara she had picked out. The outfit was finished off with a white domino mask and a bright blue cape. "Hi sis!" she happily said.

"What the fuck am I looking at." Angie Deadpanned.

"Well Glimmer, you're looking at your new Sidekick, Frosta!" she said, striking a heroic pose.

"FROSTA? You called yourself FROSTA." Angie deadpanned, facepalming.

"Look Glimmer I picked the name in a hurry okay!?" Winter replied, casually throwing an iceball at a robber sneaking around the wall, knocking him out.

"Frosta, this isn't funny, this isn't fun and games." Angie explained, teleporting behind her and punching another criminal out. "Does mom know about this? Does dad?"

"I...haven't told them yet." She sheepishly replied.

"They're gonna be furious! Besides, I don't need a sidekick." Angie commented, pouting and crossing her arms.

"Come on sis lemme help! I wanna be a superhero, unlike my worthless real mother." Winter explained, getting distracted from the fight and focused on arguing with Angie.

One of the robbers looked confused as hell. "Um are we interrupting-"

"Shut it!" Winter yelled, freezing his mouth shut. "We're talking right now!"

"No we aren't Frosta, you're going home!" Angie replied, through gritted teeth.

"Just give me a chance Glim." Winter responded.

Unknown to both of them, one of the remaining thugs calmly plugged something into his arm and took a deep breath. "That masked freak better be right about this stuff." he commented to himself, taking off his coat to reveal a small Venom tank at his side. He turned the pumps on and gritted his teeth, beginning to bulk up.

"Uh Sis…. Whats up with that guy?" Winter nervously said, pointing him out.

Angie looked at the guy and her eyes widened under her goggles. "Oh shit that's Venom! Where did he get Venom from!?" she yelled out, running over and punching the man, who didn't even flinch. "Um… sorry?" HE let out a battlecry and backhanded Angie across the room.

Winter acted fast and began sliding around him, firing bursts of cold intending to freeze either him or his venom pumps. "Isn't Venom Bane's thing? How'd this guy get ahold of it?!" she yelled in panic.

"Don't know, don't care, we gotta stop this guy!" Angie replied, throwing sparkles to flashbang the venom Thug.

"Any ideas sis?" Winter asked, trying to hit him with an Ice Mace, which she shrugged off before landing a punch on her face.

Angie leapt onto the guy's back and tried to pry off his venom pumps. "We have to disconnect his super-roids!" she replied, being shaken off but still landing a flashbang in his eyes.

Winter nodded and formed a knife out of ice, rushing in as close as she can to the large man and cutting his Venom line. The Man yelled out as he shrank back down to his usual mass, and Winter charged him and knocked him out with an Ice Hammer. "Alright, we won!" she said, gasping.

"Great...okay yeah no you and I actually work well together. Maybe I will take you as a sidekick." Angie commented, tying up the criminals. "I'm still telling mom though. She is gonna be angry." she quipped, promtping a worried look on Winter's face.

"Oh no..."

This was hard to write. I had a basic idea of how I wanted to adapt Frosta, but hit a NUMBER of walls.

1) The COSTUME. Her 2018 design...isn't superhero. Then I found and tweaked her 80s design. Worked like a charm

2) Her running away from home. I feel I may have rushed that a little….

3) Her getting adopted. DEFINITELY rushed it.

All in all it could have been better. On top of that, I've been...less motivated than usual with this chapter Part of it is coming down to being a bit annoyed at a lack of feedback. I'm working as hard as I can to not let this get me down.

In other news, me and Penumbranox have been working on another She-Ra story. This one is going to be an alternative take on his Bound to This Struggle universe. Keep an eye out for that ^_^

I do not own DC or She-Ra. No She-Ra spoilers please, but don't let that scare you off from leaving a Review ^_^

NEXT TIME: Tree-hugging Hippy.
