The Team Unites! - Part 2
The Seven youths were shocked at the sheer size of the Hall of Justice. Inside the main hall, statues of the Founding League members lined the hallways, alongside statues of the Justice Society. The sight of the Society brought a smile to Angie, who remembered all of the stories her parents would tell of their allies. The group's attention was soon drawn to Superman as he flew above them in the hall. "Young heroes of our generation. Welcome to the Hall of Justice. As you're all well aware, the Justice League is based out of the orbital station known as the Watchtower." he began. "This, however, is just as important, as it is the Justice League's embassy with the governments of Earth."
Batman stepped forward next. "You'll all have full access of the facility, and its resources as you wish. Consider this your first steps towards potential membership in the Justice League." He explained. "This also means you'll be able to access parts of the Hall not available to tourists."
Diana spoke up next, "The doors to those parts of the hall are coded to scan each of you, so you don't need a key or anything." She explained, showing it off. "Any questions?"
The first to speak up was Adora. "So this is open to us at ALL times now?"
Diana nodded. "Indeed, our resources are yours to utilize whenever needed. Files on the various criminal gangs, Computer systems to track down supervillains, and much more." All Emily heard was 'computers' and she bolted to the server room to see what she could poke at.
Angie spoke up next. "So this should also mean we have Zeta Tube privileges." she asked, looking at the teleporter system.
"Indeed," Superman said with a smile. "You've all been added to the list of approved users. Just use a Zeta-Tube location in your local city, I can have you all provided with a list."
Before anyone else was able to ask a question, the present League members got a call on the main console, and as Batman answered it, Hal Jordon appeared on the monitor. "Green Lantern to Justice League, an incursion of Manhunter robots is arriving within an hour. Requesting full League presence to fight them off." he explained in a hurry.
"We'll be there Hal, don't worry." Batman replied, turning to the others. "The League has a job to do. All of you are free to explore the Hall until we return, but please remain here." he told the younger heroes as the Leaguers all left via Zeta Tube.
"Aw man, Alien robots attacking and we don't even get to help?" Winter whined, poiuting.
Adora looked at the young hero. "Well, I've heard what the manhunters can do. They aren't to be messed with." she tried rationalizing.
"Still sucks!" she replied in annoyance, prompting a groan from Angie.
"Sis, shut up." Angie deadpanned.
The group all decided to look around and discuss things a little, this would be their first time meeting up after all. Bow had decided to first talk with the two sisters. "So, you're the daughters of Light Hope and Archmage huh?" he asked.
Angie was doing her best to hide her embarrassment at speaking with the hero she was already crushing hard on. "Well, I'm their biological daughter. Frosta here is adopted." she stammered out. "I've gotten their powers too. Dad thinks I can be a hell of a mage eventually. But for now, Light manipulation is enough." She said with a smug grin.
"I much prefer being part of Angie's family than my own." Winter added, "Don't ask, mom was a bi-"
Angie quickly shut her up. "Language sis, language!"
Bow laughed. "I wouldn't know how that feels. My dads are pretty cool guys. Though they're very….pun happy too." He admitted. "But, your parents sound awesome. I read a lot about the Justice Society, the first real superheroes on Earth!"
Angie laughed a bit. "Someone's a fanboy." she quipped, causing Bow to give a sheepish chuckle. "Wanna hang out sometime Apollo, you seem like a pretty cool guy."
"Oh uh...sure that sounds like fun. I mean we'll need to exchange identities for that but I don't mind." Bow replied with a smile.
Meanwhile Mermista was examining the Library, going through the books to find anything of interest, when Bloom walked over. "You're Atlantean right? Mermista was it?"
"Yup. What do you want." Mermista said in her usual deadpan.
"Well, I've just heard a lot about Atlantean life, I was hoping you'd be willing to tell me about it?" Bloom asked politely.
"I'm not sure why you're asking me." the Atlantean replied. "Don't you people learn about us in school now?"
Bloom rubbed her head nervously. "I uh…. Come from a highly isolated village that knows next to nothing about the outside world." she explained, causing a genuinely confused look to cross Mermista's face. "So I like learning anything I can about other places."
Mermista was honestly amused by this, "Well, I suppose I could tell you a few things. Got nothing better to do." she said, sitting down and talking with her.
Adora meanwhile went looking for Emily, finding her poking at a few computer systems. "You really like computers huh?" she asked.
Emily didn't even look up from what she was doing. "Computers, machines, robots, EVERYTHING! If it's technology I wanna tinker! I'm a certified robotics, machinery, computing and other such mechanical Genius. By the way I'm Entrapta did I say that before?" the genius girl babbled out. Adora was left stunned at how much she spoke, and she was STILL GOING.
She cleared her throat as soon as Emily took a breath. "So um. Find anything interesting?" she asked.
"Not yet." Emily commented before an alert came on the screen. "Yes." she added. Selecting the alert, they saw satellite footage of what appeared to be a TANK attacking a bank in Metropolis.
Adora was stunned. "And the entire League is currently in space." she deadpanned. "I'm going, I'll take the Zeta tubes." She said, running out of the room. Emily followed after her and told everyone else what was going on.
Angie and Winter grinned and followed Adora to the Zeta tube, prompting a surprised look from Bow. "But the League said to stay put?" he questioned.
"Who cares. That's boring." Mermista dryly said, rushing to the Zeta tube as well.
"People are in danger Apollo, we should help them right?" Bloom added, joining them. Bow shrugged and grinned. They did have a point.
"Wait up girls!" he yelled, joining them. The Seven young heroes then Zeta'd to Metropolis, ready to catch some criminals unaware.
Metropolis:
Intergang's less than subtle plan had managed to draw a crowd, including the Special Crimes Unit of the Metropolis PD, but the new weapons their benefactor had granted them allowed them to keep the police at bay. "Alright boys, get in there and grab everything you can!" the lead robber yelled out. Several others filed out and used their new technology to begin burning their way into the Vault.
One of the Intergang members firing at the police was suddenly surprised by an arrow landing in his Charge rifle and sending a shock through it, tazing him and destroying the weapon. The criminals all looked up to see the seven young heroes descending on them in a hurry. Winter dropped from her Ice-Slide and slammed an Ice Mallet on the head of a criminal before using an Ice Wall for defense. Angie began to teleport around the area to act as a distraction and get a few punches in. Emily landed on the Tank itself and slipped inside, fighting the driver and disabling its controls. Adora flew directly into a thug and slammed him into the wall, before throwing out her lasso to drag over another. Mermista struck open a Fire Hydrant and manipulated the water to knock several others to the ground. Bloom used vines to ensnare the last few.
Bow had a chuckle when everything was said and done. "Well, that was easy. Intergang isn't very impressive are they." he quipped. One of the men that had been taken down, however, crawled over to his rifle and took aim at Bow.
Adora saw this and flew towards him. "APOLLO LOOK OUT!" she yelled, landing and putting up her bracelets at the man fired. The beam connected with the bracelets, and while they stopped the shot, the kick of the blast sent Adora flying backwards into a wall. "Ow..." The criminal couldn't get another shot out before Angie warped next to him and delivered a haymaker, knocking him out. Her eyes fell on the weapon the man had been using.
Bloom rushed over and checked on Adora. "You alright Power Princess? I can grew some healing herbs if you need it."
Adora nodded and got to her feet, as the SCU moved in to pick up the Intergang members.. "Head's just spinning a bit. That gun had one HELL of a kick to it." she commented, shaking her head.
Emily had already rushed over to the weapon in question and was examining it. "I have never seen something so advanced! This thing is a masterwork of engineering!" she gleefully said, examining the weapon all over.
Angie then spoke up, her voice grim. "It's New God technology. Specifically…. Apokalips." She said.
Bow was stunned by this revelation and his eyes went wide. "Apokalips? But… doesn't New Genesis have a treaty with them?" he asked, walking over and looking at it. "It was all over the news. When Apokalips invaded earth Eight years ago, Highfather and New Genesis came to aid the Justice league and took Earth under their protection. Darkseid CAN'T attack us again."
Mermista rolled her eyes. "And you think someone like Darkseid gives a fuck about the rules? He's clearly looking for another method."
"Or maybe Darkseid is, doesn't know? Maybe it's someone going rogue." Winter suggested. "Mom always said Darkseid feared Highfather's power, he wouldn't EVER go directly against him without a plan."
Angie nodded. "Even still this is not a good sign. This kind of technology isn't meant for human hands. No offense."
Adora ran her hands through her hair and inhaled deeply. "Guys...we really should tell the league." she said, looking at the others.
Bow nodded, "They've dealt with Darkseid before."
Angie however, disagreed. "We don't need the League, I'm a New God. We can take out intergang easily, bring the weapons to the League, and get the respect we deserve as heroes."
Bloom shook her head. "This isn't about Respect this is about us being in over our heads."
Mermista spoke up as well. "We are not in over our heads. They're a bunch of street toughs with alien tech. They probably don't even have a real benefactor. Bet they just scavenged this shit."
Soon everyone but Emily was debating what to do. Emily on the other hand, was fiddling with the rifle and pulled a piece out of it, slotting it inside of a device she whipped up on the fly. She then gave a big grin and held it in front of the others triumphantly. "Well I just built a device to track Apokaliptian weapons on Earth. Why don't we follow it to the source?" she asked. Everyone went silent at this, before Angie grinned widely.
"I guess that settles it doesn't it?" She asked. "Look, if we don't push our advantage now, Intergang will go underground and we won't have proof they never had these weapons. We have to strike while the Iron's hot."
As much as Adora hated to admit it, Angie had a point. "Fine. But the minute things get too bad I'm calling in the league."
Apokalips:
Hordak hadn't been back home for very long before he was accosted by his brother Kalibak. "And just where have you been, brother?" The brute yelled out, grabbing his arm.
Hordak growled and shook free of his grip. "That's no concern of yours brother."
"Perhaps father would like to know you're sneaking around behind his back. I wonder how well he'd take that news." Kalibak not so subtly threatened.
Hordak began to laugh, "Kalibak. That's the difference between you and I." he commented, turning to face his brother. "Father doesn't approve of you rushing out blindly and acting behind his back because you are an imbecile. I, however, have the intellect to back up my planning." he mocked, smirking at Kalibak's infuriated face. "It's obvious which one of us father respects."
"We shall see. I will inform father at once." Kalibak growled, which was again responded to by a cackle.
"Where do you think I was headed, you brainless brute." Hordak said, before heading toward his father's citadel.
As he entered, he was almost immediately greeted by the booming voice of his father, Darkseid, master of Apokalips. "You've been busy, Hordak. Did you really think I was unaware of your journey's to Earth?" he said, menace in his voice as Hordak kneeled.
"No of course not Father." he replied.
Darkseid turned to face Hordak and stared him down. "To what end are you hoping to accomplish. By the treaty of New Genesis, we cannot actively attack the planet."
Hordak smiled. "I am aware father. Which is why I have been supplying Earth criminals with our weaponry." he explained. Before Darkseid could reply he elaborated further. "I have forced the Loyalty of a rather large Criminal organization, in exchange for our weapons. My intent is to use them to sow discord over the Earth. To harm the Justice League should they make effort to stop them. And finally, once the Anti-Life Equation is in your hands, Earth will fall easily with them as our operatives, spreading Anti-Life across the world under my command."
Darkseid thought on this plan a bit and turned to Hordak once more. "Assuming your plan goes exactly as you intend. I have my doubts. However, continue to use this operative as you wish. Should Kal-El and his allies track you down, bring your operative here. He may still be of use to us." Darkseid commanded.
"There is one thing I wish to ask of you Father." Hordak began.
"Speak."
"My operatives have failed to fight off a group of...younger heroes. I have no belief they are a threat, but I request to bring a section of my forces to act as guards of our Headquarters." Hordak explained.
Darkseid nodded and turned to Desaad. "Send for a dozen of the Horde's numbers."
Metropolis, Intergang HQ:
A loud booming noise signaled to Mannheim that Hordak had returned. He entered the room where the noise was heard in time to see Hordak exiting one of his usual portals. "Where the hell have you been?!" Mannheim yelled out. "We just lost a whole crew to a buncha baby superheroes and you just fuck off on us-"
His ranting was cut off as Hordak grabbed him by the throat and lifted him off his feet. "Mannheim, you may be used to being a king of your own little world, worshiped fanatically by those who follow you. But a king is nothing to a God, so you'll do well to know your place." he growled out, throwing Mannheim on the ground. "I was seeking out a means of stopping those brats if they came here." Before Mannheim could answer, more figures exited the Boom tube, these figures were chittering and growling like monsters. The figures were clad in gunmetal grey armor and adorned with Hordak's symbol across their chests. They had metal wings and several carried weapons.
"What….The hell are those things..." Mannheim said in terror.
Hordak grinned. "We on Apokalips call them Parademons. These ones however, are my own elite Parademons. Part of my own personal Army, called the Horde. Now Mr. Mannheim….what concern did you have?"
