Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter. I'm sorry it took so long, but school has been crazy busy. On top of that, I got engaged since the last update (yay!) and wedding planning, along with school, has been taking up a lot of time too. But, I'll try to be better about updating.
Let's get to it!
CrossoverMadness: They have not married yet, nor are they even engaged yet, but they will be. I do not plan to make Caitlin Barry's half-sister. And yes, they will eventually have a peaceful life.
Bl4ckHunter: Yeah, I revealed Caitlin was pregnant at the end of Coming of the Conqueror.
SpeedyJesus345: I have a lot of writing talent in my family and they helped me develop my love of writing. Plus, I have a pretty good imagination if I do say so myself.
Guest: Well, we already had the Time Masters in this universe, so there's no need for the TVA, especially given how the multiverse, and the identity of Kang, differ in this universe than in the MCU. May not necessarily do What If as a story, but may include some of the characters we were introduced to, especiallly Captain Carter, in future stories. However, I'm not ruling out doing my own version of What If, whether as a part of this series or as a stand alone story.
CrystalKaouri: Glad you liked it. Also, if you didn't already realize it, this story is only the latest story in a series. So, feel free to read the other stories to get more good stories and see the progression of Steve and Caitlin's relationship.
The pig: I'll work on whatever stories I want, thanks
Chapter 2- Peace Shattered
Steve sits up quickly in bed as he hears a familiar little girl's voice call out, "Uncle Steve! I'm hungry!"
Steve smiles a bit. He turns over to look at Caitlin right as she starts to open her eyes. "Don't worry, sweetheart. I'll take care of them. You keep resting," he says. Caitlin's lips twitch up in a grateful smile before she falls back asleep.
Steve slides out of bed and heads out into the living room, where he finds Nora and Stephen speeding around and just being rambunctious kids.
"Alright, kids, that's enough, or I won't make you pancakes," Steve says calmly but firmly.
The twins come to a stop in a second and turn to Steve. "Yes, Uncle Steve," they say in unison, with Nora adding in, "Please make us pancakes."
"With chocolate chips," Stephen adds.
Steve chuckles a bit. "Alright. Since you two are my favorite little tornado twins, I'll make you chocolate chip pancakes," he says.
"Yay!" the twins cheer in unison. Steve smiles and turns on the TV so the kids can watch cartoons and heads into the kitchen.
Steve starts making pancakes, chuckling and smiling to himself. He and Caitlin have really enjoyed having the twins around more regularly since Barry and Wanda's departure with Dr. Strange. It's definitely given them some experience in taking care of little kids, and it's just a pleasant experience.
It doesn't take Steve too long before he's finished the pancakes. As he brings the platter of pancakes out of the kitchen towards the dining room, Caitlin comes walking out of the bedroom, her hair a little messed up, but a smile and a very hungry expression on her face.
"I thought that you'd be in bed still," Steve says as he sets the pancakes down on the table.
"I was. But then I smelled those pancakes, and the baby decided that I needed some," Caitlin says with a smile. She then sits down, takes some pancakes, and starts devouring them hungrily. Steve chuckles a bit at his girlfriend's appetite before he begins serving up pancakes for the twins.
The four sit down and begin to eat breakfast. As he eats, Steve watches as Caitlin tells a funny story about Barry to the twins and laughing with them about it, he smiles. In his mind's eye, he can see Caitlin doing that with their own child someday, and finds himself greatly looking forward to that day.
As he shovels the last of his pancakes into his mouth, Steve looks over at Nora. After a few moments, he suddenly spots something. Very faintly, he can see a red dot on her chest. A split second later, he recognizes what it is and dives across the table, grabbing Nora and ducking into a combat roll. As he does, he hears the sound of gunshots and the sound of glass breaking. A bullet tears through the side of his leg, but Steve feels that it's not too serious.
Steve pulls Nora behind a couch to protect the frightened toddler. At the same time, despite being slowed down by her pregnancy, Caitlin grabs Stephen and ducks behind another couch.
Steve quickly pulls out his phone and hits the panic button. He then pokes his head up above the couch he's hiding behind and looks around. He sees nothing, but hears more gunshots go off and ducks down. He quickly wraps himself protectively around Nora to protect the frightened little girl.
Steve and Caitlin continue crouch down behind the couches with the twins for several more seconds as the unseen snipers continue to shoot into the apartment. Then, without warning, breaches open up under Steve and Caitlin, and the two fall through the breaches with the twins, landing almost immediately on the floor of the cortex.
The two sit up and look around, and quickly see Sam and Cisco hurrying over towards them. "What's going on? What happened?" Cisco asks with worry.
"Someone shot up our apartment," Steve says bluntly.
"Do you think" Sam asks, trailing off but everyone knowing what he's thinking.
"Yes. Someone knows I'm Captain America and they want me off the grid," Steve responds, a grim look on his face.
(Hours later)
Steve sighs a bit as he kneels down next to the most damaged couch, looking at the holes in it from the bullets. He is now in his detective's uniform, and is not the only one there. Sam is there, as well as Captain Singh and several officers, as well as the new CSI working for CCPD.
"And you have no idea where the shooter, or shooters, were?" Singh asks Steve.
"No idea. I was more focused on getting Caitlin and the twins out of here safely than figuring out where they were shooting from. By the time I could focus on that, they were gone," Steve replies.
Singh walks over towards Steve, pretending to be examining some of the damage in the apartment. When he gets up next to Steve, he whispers out of the side of his mouth, "Do you think they were targeting you because of the shield?"
"I do," Steve whispers back, and Singh gives a slight nod to show that he's understood.
Singh then turns to the CSI worker. "What do you got?" he asks.
"The rounds I've recovered have no rifling, so they're virtually untraceable that way. They have a 7.62 mm caliber," the CSI says.
Sam now kneels down beside the CSI and takes a look at where one of the rounds entered the wooden board that makes up part of the framework of the smaller couch. After looking at it for a moment, Sam looks back around and says, "The round entered this board at a slight angle. And if we follow the angle it entered from back out of the apartmentā¦" He looks out the window for a few moments before he points to one of the buildings visible out of the window as he says, "That should be the building where the sniper was shooting from. Most likely from the roof."
"Good eye, Wilson," Singh says. He then turns to the two officers standing in the apartment and says, "Go to that building and inspect the roof, as well as any rooms that have broken windows." The two officers nod and leave the apartment as the CSI continues inspecting everything that was damaged in the shooting.
Sam walks over to Steve. After a second, he says in a very low voice, "I don't think whoever was behind this just wanted to take you out. My guess is they want the entire team gone."
"I think you're right," Steve says.
(Unknown location)
A man wearing a camouflage combat uniform walks about the corridor in the secret underground base. Reaching the door at the end of the hallway, he opens it and walks through.
In the room, the person he has come looking for is standing behind a desk and is looking at something in a case. The man stops short before he says, "Lord Zemo. We received word that the attempt failed. Captain America and his family evaded our snipers' fire before they were rescued by Vibe. Since then, his family has disappeared and the Captain has been extremely careful about his movements since then."
From where he was examining the artifact in the case, Baron Zemo straightens up and looks over at his agent. "Well, clearly a small, stealth incursion is not going to work. We need Captain America and his teammates off the board. I guess it's time for Plan B," Zemo says, a cocky smile on his face.
And, I'll end the chapter there. Hope this was a good one.
So, yes, the main villain of this story will be HYDRA under Baron Zemo. I'm still working out all the particulars and HYDRA's goals, but it should make a good storyline.
Next chapter should be up sometime next week hopefully. Until it's up, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
