I have been a Theatre Arts director for over 20 years who was highly influenced by the Star Wars series (specifically Episode VI: Return of the Jedi) when I was a teen. I started writing fanfiction when I was 14 with a person who would become my BFF for years to come, but I stopped shortly after college (Theatre is all-encompassing of one's time and creative resources). After the release of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, I started writing again and have not been able to stop.

I have over a dozen reasons why TLJ fell short of the mark. These are professional reasons that have to do with plot holes, characterization, and directorial decisions. It was lazy writing. I allow you to love the film if you want. Please allow me to hate it without calling me names. My evaluation and resulting score of 1/10 is based on specific issues, not because my favorite theory got tossed out the window. I am of two minds for TROS and firmly believe that what we saw was not the film that JJ edited. It's smashed together with two different plot lines from Act 2 to Act 3.

I write with subtext in mind. Instead of jumping to conclusions, try to figure out what the foreshadowing is hinting. Assume that every "error" is actually a calculated addition by the author. Yes, my characters have flaws. Yes, they may say one thing and do another. But isn't that more realistic? And one of the first things I learned script analysis was never trust what any character says about themselves or any other character--at the best they are biased, at the worst they are lying.
