Chapter 3: How I met Alex.
It was a bright sunny day in Metroville, and a pretty big day for the youngest member of the Parr family. Jack Jack was going fishing over by a pond, and he just so happened to find it somewhere far behind their backyard.
Jack Jack also had to borrow Dash's fishing rod, and — by dumb luck — it was just the size for him to use. He was also carrying a plastic dark blue bucket full of seaweed, the seaweed was what he was gonna use for his bait.
Jack Jack: "Oh boy, this is gonna be a great fishing trip. I just hope I find plenty of fish at that po-
But before he could finish his sentence, he came up to a rocky ledge that was aside from the forest where the pond was hidden. Jack Jack couldn't really see a way to get down, so he started pacing nervously.
Jack Jack: "Come on Jack Jack, think. You're a smart baby, you've dealt with situations far worse than this."
Just then, he spotted a large yet flat rock that was about 3 inches thick. If he looked at it closely enough, it looked okay to be used as a snowboard.
Jack Jack: "AHA, perfect!"
With that, he hopped onto the rock and rode down along a less steep slope to the bottom surface. He ended up hitting a bump as he skidded along the bottom ground, but he soon landed right beside the pond he was looking for.
The pond was about 2 feet wide and 3 feet long, and it was in a perfect round shape. After Jack Jack regained himself, he stuck his fishing rod into the ground in front of him and sat down on his rock.
Jack Jack: "There, now let's get fishing."
For the start, he clutched his hook and pulled out a thick strand of seaweed out of his bucket. He tangled the seaweed around his hook, then he carefully casted his hook into the pond.
Jack Jack: "Now, I wait."
He watched as his bobber bobbed within the pond, it was already starting to become rather boring. Suddenly, something started yankin on his fishing rod. Jack Jack reeled in his line, and he found a fish caught on his hook.
The fish was a tiger barb.
Jack Jack: "Ha, first catch of the day! Pretty nice, not bad for a super baby."
But while he unhooked the Tiger barb from the hook, a red and black bird perched on the branch of a tree somewhere behind him.
The bird's name was Alex, he was a bird known as an alexornis.
Alex: "Hmm, I wonder what that kiddo is up to."
When Alex quietly perched himself on the edge of Jack Jack's bucket, he could see a few aquatic bugs within the seaweed. He nipped at every single one and ate them up, and they were delicious.
Alex: "Scrumptious, good thing I'm an insectivore."
Alex suddenly got an idea, maybe he'll find more aquatic bugs somewhere in the pond that Jack Jack was fishing in. He looked into a smaller pond behind Jack Jack, and he could kinda see Jack Jack's fishing hook dangling within it. And to Alex's joy, it's strand of seaweed was already coated in aquatic bugs.
So Alex plucked the fishing hook with his beak, and he yanked it out of the water as hard as he could. Jack Jack felt the huge pull on his fishing rod, and he held on tight.
Jack Jack: "Woah, this one is putting up a fight!"
While he held on, Alex devoured each and every aquatic bug on the seaweed. After that, he hooked the fish Jack Jack had already caught onto the hook and let it go. Jack Jack reeled in his line, and then he took the fish off.
Jack Jack: "Nice, it looks just like the first one."
With that, he placed the fish behind him and started putting on another strip of seaweed. He dropped his line into the pond, and Alex could see the hook become visible from inside the other pond. He could see some more aquatic bugs cling onto the seaweed, then he started making his next move.
While he did that, Jack Jack started humming Mr. Incredible's theme song to himself.
Jack Jack: "Mr. incredible, incredible! Punching the bad guys -(does hand movements) POW! POW! POW!"
Alex had heard him singing this, and he started getting a suspicion as he got to work.
He plucked the line in his beak and pulled it out so hard, it caused Jack Jack's (Dash's) fishing rod to start bending way too hard. As Alex gave the line 3 hard yanks, he watched as the fishing rod got pulled in further as Jack Jack held on tight. He then snipped up all of the aquatic bugs on the seaweed, hooked the tiger barb fish onto the hook, and let the line go. Jack Jack reeled in the fish, and laughed in victory as if it was actually his third catch yet.
Jack Jack: "Wow, I rule at fishing."
He placed the visually copied fish, then he dropped in another line.
Alex:(chuckles) "Well, third time's the charm."
As Alex was about to make his next move, Jack Jack was whistling while waiting for his next catch. Suddenly, Alex yanked on his line again as Jack Jack grabbed his rod before it got out of reach. But this time, he didn't realize that he was pulling on the line a little too hard.
As he kept pulling, the fishing rod ended up flipping into the pond while flinging Jack Jack over the pond and against a large tree. When Jack Jack landed back on his feet, he could not believe what he saw.
Jack Jack: "What the cookie!?"
On the other side of the pond, he could see Alex plucking the aquatic bugs from his seaweed. And to make matters worse, he could see that he had only caught 1 tiger barb fish sitting behind his spot which meant he had only caught 1 fish this whole time.
Jack Jack: "Hey, get away from there!"
Jumping with a start, Alex realized that he had been caught.
Alex: "Uh-oh, retreat!"
Alex let go of the seaweed, then Jack Jack shot a couple blasts of his eye lasers at him. But after Alex cautiously dodged them, he dove into a large gopher hole. Jack Jack ran up to it and peeked inside, but Alex was nowhere to be seen.
Jack Jack: "Come out here and fight like a bird!"
Suddenly, Jack Jack realized something.
Jack Jack: "What am I saying?"
Suddenly, he heard something from somewhere behind him. As he turned around, he saw Alex poking his head out from another gopher hole.
Alex: "Yoo-hoo, come and get me spike-o!"
Jack Jack angrily skidded over to the other hole, then he poked his head inside. Alex came out of the first hole, then he picked up a small rock in his beak. He threw it at Jack Jack's back startling him, then he scrambled around as Alex dove back into the hole.
Jack Jack: "Dash, was that you?"
Suddenly he heard a bird whistling coming from the other hole, then he started waddling over to it. But when he heard it coming from the other hole, he went back over to it and moved a large and flat rock over it.
Getting an idea, he hooked the rest of his seaweed on his hook. He reached into his bucket again, and he pulled out a ball of red yarn. He wrapped the end of it around the last of his seaweed, then he flung the yarn ball around the corner of a large rock. He quickly ran behind it, then he waited as Alex poked his head out the gopher hole.
Alex: "Hello, what's this?"
As he took a closer look at the seaweed, he could see that it was indeed coated with a few more aquatic bugs. He looked around for a couple seconds, then he licked his lips and went for it. But as he tried to, Jack Jack pulled it further away.
As Alex got far away enough, Jack Jack made his move. He used his levitation powers to move another large flat rock over the other hole. Unfortunately, it didn't go unnoticed by Alex.
Alex: "Hey, that's my hidey-hole!"
With that, Alex tried shoving the rock away. Enraged by this, Jack Jack landed on top of the rock in front of Alex so he couldn't move it.
Jack Jack: "Oh no you don't!"
Next, they started chasing each other in circles. Alex flew, but low enough for Jack Jack to keep up.
Jack Jack: "Hold still ya bird brain!"
Jack Jack's pointy hair suddenly— and literally — it up like a firework, then he started rolling after Alex like a firework Catherine wheel. Alex started flying towards him, but he jumped right over him and went back to the covered hole. Jack Jack went back into his normal form, then he went to go deal with Alex.
Alex was trying to lift the edge of the rock covering the hole, but then Jack Jack angrily came over.
Jack Jack: "Hey, you stop it or-
Alex got so startled by Jack Jack's outburst, the rock ended up falling on his left wing.
Alex: "Ayyyyyyyyyyyy!
Luckily, Alex was able to yank his wing out from under the rock.
Alex: "Owy-owy, why did you do that?"
Jack Jack could clearly— and shockingly—see what he did, now he started to feel bad about himself. Alex was feeling so injured, he started to cry. Jack Jack came over to him, then he started looking over his injured wing.
Jack Jack: "Oh birdy, I'm so sorry. Look, I think I know how to make it up to you."
With that, he walked over to the rock and started using his levitation powers to move it away.
Jack Jack: "Here, you can have your hidey hole back."
Alex felt so touched, his wing was already starting to feel better.
Alex: "Oh, thank you good pal."
With that, Alex dove back inside the hole. Suddenly, he heard Alex trying to lift the rock covering the other hole. Instead of using his levitation powers this time, he used his eye lasers to blow up the rock before Alex flew out.
Alex: "Wow, how did you do that?"
Jack Jack: "I've got eye lasers."
Alex's jaw just dropped.
Alex: "Say what!?"
Jack Jack: "Yeah, I'm actually a superhero."
Alex: "Oh my gosh, you deserve something special for helping me!"
With that, he quickly flew over to the second pond. Jack Jack watched as Alex started hovering while sticking his talent feet into the water.
Jack Jack: "What is he doing?"
Suddenly, what Alex lifted from the pond was a fish the size of a skateboard.
Alex: "Surprise!"
Jack Jack: "Wow, gimme-gimme!"
Alex tossed the fish over to Jack Jack, and it was so heavy that Jack Jack slid backwards on his butt a few feet when the fish made contact with him. Jack Jack measured the fish with his hands, and the fish was about 2 feet long.
Jack Jack: "Wow, wait until daddy sees this."
Alex: "So it's true, you're an infant superhero?"
Jack Jack: "Yep. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to tell you this, but…..everyone in my family is a superhero too."
Alex: "Yowsa, I think we're gonna get along."
Then, Jack Jack dug through his bucket and pulled out the last of his seaweed.
Jack Jack: "Hey, wasn't it the aquatic bugs in my seaweed bait you were after?"
Alex: "Uhh, yeah."
Jack Jack: "Here, you can have the last of them."
With that, he showed Alex all the aquatic bugs that were on the last of his seaweed. While Alex ate up the bugs, Jack Jack ended up….eating one himself.
After that, Jack Jack packed up his fish and fishing supplies. Next, he collected his fishing rod that had fallen into the first pond.
Alex: "I saw the word "Dash" on that stick, is that your name?"
Jack Jack: "No. it's the name of my brother."
Alex: "Oh, then what's your name?"
Jack Jack: "Jack Jack."
Alex: "Odd, but I'll go with it. Say, is it okay if I call you Jackito at times?"
Jack Jack thought about it for a moment, then he smiled.
Jack Jack: "I guess you can, it's kinda growing on me."
Alex: "Just so you know where I am, my nest is in 1 of the trees on the edge of that big clearing by that pointy house."
Jack Jack: "Hey, that pointy house is where I live!"
Alex: "Nice, we can be neighbors!"
Jack Jack: "Agreed, but I should be heading home soon."
Elastigirl: "Jack Jack, dinnertime!"
Suddenly, Jack Jack and Alex looked up at the cliff and saw Helen waiting up there for Jack Jack.
Jack Jack: "Oh that's my mom, I better go."
Alex: "Wait, is that….Elastigirl!?"
Jack Jack: "Uhh yes, how did you know?"
Alex: "Are you serious, I saw her aboard some fancy ship that crashed against the shore along with some huge icy wave!"
(Flashback)
About a couple months back, Alex perched on the corner of a tall building near the shore. Suddenly, he saw the DevTech ship speeding right at the the terrain much too fast.
Alex: "Hey, slow down you crazy joy-sailor!"
Suddenly, it's right hinge got snapped by a large chunk of ice. As it started crashing straight towards the shore, a slim superhero in a slick white suit shot a huge icy wave in front of the ship which cushioned it's crash completely.
A few minutes later, Alex could see Elastigirl standing on the edge of the deck amongst a bunch of other superheroes. Everyone was applauding for their work, and Alex couldn't help but feel just as amazed.
(End of flashback)
Alex: "And look, can't you see how high she's waving her arm?"
When Jack Jack looked up at his mom, he saw that she was indeed extending her arm in her wave.
Jack Jack: "Yeah, I guess you have a point. Since we live so close to each other, we can actually become best friends."
After hearing this, Alex just burst with excitement.
Alex: "Oh yeah baby, we're gonna become super buddies!"
While Alex was cheering, he flew in a big loopty loop.
Jack Jack: "Wow, you're awfully enthusiastic. Well, see ya tomorrow."
Alex: "So long fellow super buddy!"
With that, Jack Jack started making his way back up the cliff. He found some rocks that were in the exact same shape as a staircase that were high enough to reach the top, and he carefully made his way up. His mom was still up there waiting for him, and she was surprised to see the large fish he was carrying.
Elastigirl: "Oh my gosh honey, did you really catch that fish?"
Jack Jack babbled happily.
Elastigirl: "Well, daddy will be so proud of you when he sees this."
Before she could pick him up, Jack Jack suddenly remembered something as he peered back down towards Alex.
Jack Jack: "Hey, I didn't catch your name!"
Alex: "Alex, my name's Alex!"
Jack Jack: "Okay, see ya!"
So Helen picked up Jack Jack and the fish, then he carried him back towards the house feeling proud of him for his fishing skills. But we know it was Alex who caught it, don't we.
