Chapter Twelve
Broken
Reforming friendships, evil Mayors, possible magic destinies. It was a lot for Adora to process. How does Catra handle this kind of stuff? The Mayor created artificial magic? How? Did it have to do with him experimenting on his brothers?
And to stop Death's Touch, they need the artifact? Is that the sword?
"I cannot believe you stole a sword." Catra muttered.
"A magic sword, in a room with more Runestones." Adora mentioned.
"This is the exact opposite of what I taught you the invisibility spell for." Catra said, in an exasperated manner.
"What are you mad at me for? You have other things to worry about!" Adora exclaimed.
"Yes, but you always take first priority. I thought you knew this." Catra crossed her arms. "Honestly, what were you thinking?"
"I thought the same thing, but my hunch was right, which is why I became a journalist." Adora said.
"We both know, you want to be a hero, which is why you did it anyway." Catra remarked.
"What, you think I can't do this?" Adora asked.
"No, it's not that, you just said you weren't sure about going. You want to be a hero, but in this line of work, you always have to be sure about risking your life." Catra told her.
Adora thought about what she said, and she was right. Finding those Runestones was pure luck, but luck isn't always on your side.
"You're right, Catra. I'm sorry." Adora apologized.
"Apology accepted. Now, why did you steal a sword?" Catra asked.
"Because it spoke to me." Adora said, bluntly.
"What?"
"It said my name. When I touched it, I saw something, like a vision. There was a woman, and I heard something about the honor of Grayskull?" Adora peered into her reflection, wondering blue eyes, yearning for answers.
"Alright, it's you're heritage, I get it. Why do you think the Jade Eyes chose me? Because I'm good at kicking butt?" Catra sarcastically said.
"You're taking the fun out of this." Adora whined.
"I'm supposed to, because I'm your friend." Catra told her.
"You're usually nice." Adora crossed her arms.
"Because I changed for others. I'm not gonna change for you. You get the real Catra, and only you." Catra brushed her tail against Adora's wrist.
Adora looked at her, brows furrowed, lips pursed. She could never fully understand her friend, even if she was the one who understood her the most.
"I'm getting mixed signals here." Adora admitted.
"I'm getting mixed feelings." Catra mocked her. The thought of Adora taking charge was a very attractive thought, but the thought of Adora putting herself in danger was a balancing stupid thought.
"Ok, you're gonna have to start making sense, Catra." Adora told her.
"Where's the fun in that?" Catra asked her.
"Because I'm confused already, and I don't need you teasing me right now. I need answers." Adora held out the sword in her hands. "When I saw that vision, someone told me to fight for my family name. I didn't even know about this!" Adora exclaimed.
"You were always gifted in magic, so it's kinda obvious." Catra told her.
"Why do you know about this more than me!?" Adora yelled.
Catra just stared at her.
"Right. You have your own. You have to teach me. There's a lot that this sword can do, I just know it." Adora said.
"Sorry, I don't have a magical sword, so I can't help you there." Catra told her.
"Come on, Catra. You said that we would be partners." Adora reminded her.
"And we will, but you're going to have to figure out how to use that letter opener on your own." Catra smirked.
"Please. I have a magic sword, you have a magic tiara." Adora said.
"True, but at least I don't have to carry it around. You obviously have to use that in battle." Catra replied.
"Is this how everyone felt around you?" Adora asked.
"Be glad I keep my worst insults to my enemies." Catra smirked.
"How have I never noticed?" Adora shook her head in disappointment.
"Please, would you have stayed friends with me if you found out?" Catra asked her.
"Yes! That's why we made that promise! I've got your back-" Adora started.
"-And I've got yours." Catra finished.
They remembered the day they made that promise. They were little kids then, no older than ten. Adora went home one evening, and her parents gave her the worst news she could possibly hear. Her big brother, Adam, went missing.
Some believed that he ran away, but she knew that he was happy here. Others believed that he was taken. After Catra had found her, sulking in her bed, she went to console her.
The likelihood of him being taken away was a worrisome thought to Adora. She'd never want to be taken away from Catra, and she'd never want the same to happen to Catra either. So they made a promise. They'll always stick together, no matter what.
"Alright. I help you with the basics." Catra gave in.
"You will?" Adora asked, with excitement in her eyes.
"Yes, now first, we need to know what you can do. Draw out your magic." Catra ordered her.
Adora nodded, she felt her inner magic, more powerful by the sword, and directed it outwards. A glowing aura made it's way from her arms, to the blade.
"Now listen to your magic. Concentrate, Adora." Catra instructed.
Concentrate. Listen to the magic. Soon enough, Adora could hear the voice again. That eerie, emotionless, voice.
"Adora."
Concentrate.
"Will you fight?"
Listen.
"For the Honor of Grayskull?"
Adora opened her eyes, and stared at the blade. This was her power. This was her destiny. She will fight for people of Brightmoon City. She will fight for hope of everyone.
She will fight.
"For the Honor, of Grayskull!" Adora raised the Sword of Protection, and in flash of light, she transformed.
Her clothes were replaced by a white suit, her hair flowed in the wind, and she grew eight feet tall. A red cape adorned her back, golden armor shimmered in the light, and the blade was shining blue.
She became She-Ra.
...
...
"You stole my look!" Catra yelled.
Adora looked down at her. "What?"
"You stole my look, white and gold is my thing!" Catra pointed at her own suit, and indeed, there were similarities.
"Wha- they're not the same! I'm not even wearing pants!" Adora gave herself a better look. She wasn't just taller, she was buff! Her hair was way more shinier than it should have been.
"I've had my look before you did, so everyone's going to think that you're the copycat." Catra told her.
"Just stop talking about how I look!" Adora yelled.
"Alright, calm down. You still have a lot to learn, so let's test your strength." Catra said.
"And how are we going to do that, arm wrestle?"
"No, come on. I'm sure someone saw that flash of light, so let's go somewhere else." Catra jumped down.
Adora looked down. She was not good with heights.
"Come on, already!"
She'll use the stairs.
-
After using the fire escape, Adora made it to ground level. Catra lead her into an alleyway, and she mounted herself on top of a dumpster.
"Lift this." She said, bluntly.
"You want me to lift that?" Adora asked, apprehensively.
"Adora, I can lift this. You told me a magic sword is better than a magic crown, so prove it." Catra ordered.
Adora put the sword away, and grabbed onto the bottom of the dumpster. She pulled it up, and found it surprisingly light. Like a normal box.
"I'm doing it." She said in disbelief.
Catra noticed how easily she held it, barely an effort and it was a few feet off the ground.
"We're going to need something bigger." She muttered.
Adora put the dumpster back, and they found an unattended car. Catra mounted herself atop it.
"Lift this. One hand." She ordered.
"Catra, this is someone's car." Adora argued.
"And that someone left it, now lift it." Catra countered.
"Catra." Adora resisted.
"Adora." Catra compelled.
Knowing she wasn't going to stop, she grabbed the bottom and pulled it off the ground with one arm.
"There! I'm lifting it! Now what?" Adora asked.
Catra didn't think about that. She was busy figuring out their strength difference. Adora could lift an entire car in one hand, meaning she was at least twice as strong as her.
"Catra?" Adora asked.
"Yeah, Adora?" Catra turned her attention back to Adora.
"A little help." Adora couldn't figure out to put it down without making noise.
Catra jumped off and grabbed the other end, and they gently set it down.
"You're twice as strong, maybe even stronger." Catra admitted.
Adora smiled in smug. "So, I am better than you?"
Catra rolled her eyes at this. "Oh, please. You're better on average. I haven't used my full potential in years.".
What was that supposed to mean? For the past eight years, Catra used the power of her Runestones to fight crime, and she wasn't even using her full power?
"Full potential? You expect me to believe that you have more power than this?" Adora accused.
"Yeah, I can match you." Catra said in confidence.
"Prove it. Let's arm wrestle." Adora waged.
Catra scoffed. "I'm not going to transform just so you can test your powers."
Wait, she can transform?
"Show me." Adora said.
Catra's ears perked up. "What?"
"Show me." She repeated.
Catra moaned in exhaustion. She wasn't going to stop until she did, was she? This is Adora we're talking about, of course she won't stop! No one was more stubborn than her, after all.
"Look, Adora, I know you're excited about all of this, but I'm not your little pet." She growled. "You can't tell me what to do because you got a magic sword, and a flowing cape. You're still Adora."
Adora blinked, and stepped back. "I'm sorry, Catra. I didn't mean to make you feel like that."
"I know. Don't do that again." It wasn't a plea, it was an order.
"Look, Catra… I-" Adora was interrupted by Catra, who listened to an incoming call.
"What is it?" Adora asked.
"It's Glimmer." Catra's ears lowered, her tail curled up, and she stared straight into Adora's eyes.
"She says that Razz is sick."
-
The both of them quickly made it to F.E.A.S.T. Adora had transformed back to her normal self, and hid the sword in a safe place. They had forgotten about everything for a moment, and now everything is getting worse.
The place was filled with people working hard to help everyone. But it wasn't enough, they couldn't do anything to cure artificial magic.
"Magicat!" A voice called out.
Said feline noticed a familiar face. "Dr. Norwyn?"
"I'm glad you're here." He expressed.
"And why's that?" She asked.
"It's getting worse. I feared this day would come, but you can fix it." He told her.
This was surprising. "How?"
"The Sword of Protection." He answered.
The sword was what Entrapta and Scorpia were talking about. The one that Light Spinner was looking for.
"It was supposed to be a legend, but I've seen it. The sword of the legendary warrior: She-Ra." Norwyn continued.
Adora listened in, hoping she would find some answers. If her sword was as powerful as he says, then she would have to be the one to cure everyone. Was she really that powerful?
"I'll tell you about it as much as I can, but only if you can retrieve it. I've done everything I could, but only the sword has enough power to heal them." He told her.
"Don't worry. I'll get it, just let me do something quick." She said.
"Very well." He complied.
The Magicat searched everywhere, looking for Madame Razz. When she found her, she could see Glimmer by her side. Right now, she wanted to be there too, but she couldn't do it without risking her secret identity.
"Catra." Adora whispered, as she placed a hand on her shoulder. Razz was the nicest woman she's ever known, and seeing her like this was unbearable.
"We'll figure it out, Adora. Once we do, you can fix this." She assured her.
"What are you going to do?" Adora asked her.
"I still have something to take care of." She said.
The Magicat left without saying goodbye. When she comes back, she hoped that she would see Razz back on her feet. That woman was tough, she could handle anything.
She hoped so.
-
Four down, two to go. Wrordak and Light Spinner were going to break into Hordecorp, without Entrapta to find the sword, they had to find it themselves.
Catra wouldn't dare think about Razz, if she were distracted, she'd lose more time. The City was depending on her, and if she failed… She would never put on the mask again. If she failed as a hero, she would break her promise to Scorpia. She would Break her promise to Adora.
Once she made it to Hordecorp, she found dozens of Beasts, guarding the entrance. That meant that Wrordak was already inside. Well, she was the best at crashing parties. Frosta could definitely vouch for her on that.
She always loved making a big entrance, so she sped towards each armed goon, and sliced their weapons. In no more than ten seconds, they were all unarmed.
Without weapons, they charged at her, and she dodged any attacks thrown at her. After a few hits, she went on the offensive with a kick first. She then pounced onto a Beast, and punched him in the face. The next one moved in to kick her, but she flipped over him and threw him against his fellow goons.
Another pair of goons tried attacking, but she kicked one down and clawed at the other one. The Magicat threw a yarn trap at two other goons, trapping them together, then she kicked them down. One goon swung a fist at her, but she ducked and wrapped her tail around his ankle and tripped him.
Another goon charged at her, but she slid under him and threw him at another one. She pounced on another goon, then she kicked another one, then she ducked under a punch, retaliating with her claws. She charged at the last goon and drop kicked him.
Now, all she had to do was-
"Hands in the air!" A voice called out.
Hunters finally made it here, it's not like they're supposed to be protecting the Mayor at all times, right?
"Look, I know you're all the 'Shoot first, ask questions later' type, but we're going to need to talk this out." She said.
Normally, you'd expect them to ignore any, and all diplomatic options. And you would be right.
"Down on the ground!" They demanded.
"How 'bout no?" The Magicat swiftly dodged their bullets, and ran towards them.
She kicked the first guy in the face, then she clawed at the next one. A Hunter moved in to hit her with his gun, but she jumped over him and threw a yarn trap at him. She kicked the next Hunter's gun away, then she tripped him down.
She proceeded to pounce on him, and claw at his helmet covered face. She jumped off of him, and waited for the next attack. A Hunter swung his fist, but she grabbed his arm and threw him on his back.
Another Hunter raised his weapon to shoot her, but she kicked it out of his hands and then she tripped him. As she headed for the next guy, he started firing at her, but her reflexes proved faster as she made her way to attack him.
She sliced his gun in two, then she flipped him over and punched him repeatedly. The Magicat always keeps an ear out for danger, and when she heard a Hunter Soldier sneaking up from behind, she used a flash spell on him, then she gave him a roundhouse kick.
The Magicat was certain that it was finally-
"Hold it!" A familiar voice ordered.
Great. Just great. Out of all the times that she had to interfere, she chose now.
"Huntara, I'm not in the mood for a dissension. Now, we can either work together, or we can waste everyone's time and fight each other." The Magicat offered.
"Work? With you? Listen kitty, I don't work with trouble makers, I deal with them." Huntara stated.
To demonstrate, she pulled out a collapsible staff and attacked. The Magicat used her quick reflexes, dodging every swing, but Huntara grabbed her and flung her to the ground.
"I don't care if you don't believe me, but I do too. And stop calling me that!" The Magicat groaned as she got back on her feet.
"You're the one that started all of this." Huntara told her, with a fierce look in her eyes. She went to attack once more, with quicker reflexes, pushing The Magicat back.
"Regrettably, true. But I'm not going to run away. I'm going to fix this, with or without your help." The Magicat stated, making sure to keep a distance. If she were closer, there would be a better chance that she would get hit.
"And why should I trust your words?" Huntara inquired.
"Because I don't want anyone getting hurt, not even them." She said, referring to Light Spinner, and Wrordak.
Huntara considered her words, not sensing any deception in her voice, but only her conviction. Huntara made mistakes before, and this girl really wanted to make up for hers.
She knew about The Magicat's bad reputation, but she never thought about her intentions. This wasn't like the Crimson Waste. She remembered that some people did care about others.
"Alright. I'll let this slide for now, but if you're lying… I won't give you anymore chances." She growled.
"That's the last thing I'd want to do." The Magicat assured.
Before they went inside, Beast reinforcements arrived.
"Great." The Magicat deadpanned.
"You go. I came here for a beatdown, and to hang a tail on my wall... I'm all out of tails."
The Magicat wanted to believe that she was joking, but it was too difficult so she awkwardly went inside the building.
-
To say that she was conflicted about fighting her old friends was an understatement. She looked up to them, believed in them… But she never thought that they could do bad things. And she felt like they wouldn't let her understand why.
Why couldn't they be like her? It was people like them who made her realize that there was more to life than just her, that there was good in others. And now, they turned their backs on their beliefs, just for one man.
Prime may be up to something, but there were other ways to deal with him. She hoped that she could make them see that, and she would do her best to make sure she does.
The Magicat reached the office, and stayed out of sight. She peered through the doors, and found Wrordak threatening Prime.
"Where is the sword?" He growled in frustration.
"I told you, I don't have it. This must be infuriating, your perfect little plan ruined because of my own ineptness." Prime chuckled.
"Don't lie to me! You're never so careless, even when it involves your 'Grand scheme'." Wrordak snarled as he grasped Prime's suit.
"Little brother-" Prime was interrupted.
"Don't call me that!" Wrordak roared at him, and threw him across the room.
The Magicat decided to intervene, and make sure things don't escalate any further. She burst through the doors, and blocked his path, which caused his men to raise their guns at her.
"Wrordak, you don't have to do this. I can deal with him." She tried to dissuade him.
"Then why don't you rip out his throat, right now!?" He argued.
"Because I stand for what's right. Killing him won't fix what he did to you and your brother." She countered.
"Don't talk as if you know anything about what he did to us!" Wrordak grabbed her and threw her into the wall, hard enough to break through it.
"Fine. It's not like I'm healing broken bones anyway." She joked.
The Magicat got up and took a defensive stance. Wrordak moved in to attack, but she swiftly avoided his attack and scratched him. He swung again and hit her this time.
"Think about what you're doing, you killed innocents just to get here. There doesn't have to be anymore." She told him.
"I don't care about being better than him, all I want is to see him dead!" Wrordak continued to attack her, relentlessly. She bobbed and weaved, and whenever she found an opening, she would use it to attack in return.
"You would give everything up, everything you've worked for? You've done good for lots of people, and you would throw it all away?" She asked.
"The world is not black and white, how could you be so naïve to believe that any amount of good could stop a monster like Prime? Playing hero won't do you any good in the long run!" He snarled, and charged at her.
"I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't know their friends." The Magicat muttered to herself as she jumped out of the way. She used up most of her magic, and used the spell that Glimmer taught her.
Wrordak's fist came into contact with a symbol that he recognized, his eyes widened in fear as it burst out into a huge explosion. He was sent across the room, knocked unconscious from the sudden force.
She took no joy in fighting him, and she worried about what'll happen when she fights Light Spinner. She turned to see if the Mayor was okay. Well, he was relatively okay.
It was best if she left now, since there was nothing else left to do. There was no way to prove what Prime did to his brothers, and being here when the authorities arrive would just get her in more trouble.
Wait. She could hear something-
BLAM*
Tendrils of shadow came out of nowhere, and attacked her. She didn't have time to react as the shadows were thrashing her against the walls. It wasn't long before she was too weak to fight back.
Shadow Weaver held her limp form in her shadows, staring into those blue lenses.
"I warned you." She said, in an indifferent tone.
"Light Spinner." Prime acknowledged her.
She turned to him and scowled. She sent a shadow at him, and squeezed, causing pain.
"Mark my words, Prime. You will pay for your crimes, and I will that!" She hissed, squeezing tighter.
She turned around and left, taking him as her hostage. The Magicat laid on the flor, broken, and hurt. She failed.
The last thing she saw, was a familiar woman, with white hair.

This Chapter is finished. The next Chapter will be the finale between The Magicat, and Shadow Weaver. The Chapter after that, will be the actual epilogue of this story, and then I'm going to have to add the DLCs as bonus stories, meaning more Bow, more Huntara, and some Octavia.
But I'll be busy with the sequel, so I won't do that until after I'm done with that. This story is a bit short, but I have planned out the extended universe already, so expect some more content after I finish this story.
Also, I came up with another story that I want to write, and you definitely would love it, so here's the pitch.
Adora, Protector of Etheria, Warrior of Brightmoon. As the owner of these titles, she will bear the responsibility to defend the world against invaders from beyond the stars.
Catra, Second General of the Horde Empire, Troublemaker. She is given the task of raiding the Kingdom of Brightmoon. After Shadow Weaver is murdered by She-Ra, she takes her place as third in command, and success is the only thing that will prove her worth as third in command.
The only problem, is that they fall in love.
P.S, I only realized just recently, that it's been a year since I started this story. And if I want to finish the epic tale of my FDNNU (Fanfiction, Dreamworks, Netflix, Novelized Universe), then it might be finished by 2023-2024… Possibly 2025.
