Gender: Male, but I long since stopped letting that decide anything for me. I like what I like and I write what I write.

Name: Cionaodh. What? No one said it had to be my real name. No, I will not tell you how to pronounce it.

Age: Either older than you or younger than you, unless we're the same age.

Birthday: I happen to share a birthday with Dr. Seuss (Best. Author. Ever.) and Mikhail Gorbachev. If you want to know the date, do some research. If you don't feel like doing so, that's fine too.

Hobbies: Writing (obviously), video games, and reading. My room has more books in it than I can count.

About my pen name. I've had it for something like ten or twelve years, and it's sort of my go-to screen name. I happen to like it, so I've stuck with it.

My Views on Writing

First and foremost, Spellcheck. Then proofread. Then Spellcheck again. Repeat until all errors are removed. The fastest way to ruin a good story is poor delivery. If no one can read what you've written then the quality of the story is immaterial. Make sure the story is both readable and understandable before publishing it.

Details. This is where a good story can become a great story. Give the details about your characters and your world. Try to make them seem real. However, be careful not to spend so much time on the details that the story gets buried. Too much information can be even worse than not enough.

Go back and look at what you've written. I do this all the time. It helps me keep track of both the events of my story and how the story is supposed to be written. A sudden change in writing style can be a huge distraction.

POV. Oh man, this is a touchy subject. I prefer to write in the third person. This keeps things consistent and lets me pay attention to all of my characters without too much difficulty. That said, I have nothing against the first person. Some of my favorite books are written in first person. I've even seen the dreaded POV switch pulled off extremely well. So all three of these styles works. The problem arises when someone changes which style they're using. If you're going to write in third person, write in third person. If you're going to write in first person, write in first person. If you're going to write in a changing point of view, make sure the audience knows which POV you're using at any particular moment.

Reviews: Pay attention to the reviews for your story. This is how your readers communicate with you. Reviews can tell you what you're doing well, and what you need to fix. That said, sometimes it's better to ignore a complaint that you don't agree with. You can't please everybody, so there's no point in compromising your vision for your story in the attempt.

Flames: They're unpleasant, but irrelevant. Ignore them, perhaps laugh at them, but don't take them seriously. They don't reflect on you or your story, merely on the person doing the flaming.

Why I Write

The simple answer is because I like to. However, there's a lot more going on than just that.

I know I have at least a moderate level of talent. I'm far from amazing, but I'm not a bad writer. However, talent is meaningless without practice, and this site provides an excellent place to practice and to learn.

I have stories to tell, and I want to share. I think that they're fairly good stories, although I may not do them justice.

I enjoy it. I enjoy writing. I enjoy reading your reviews. I enjoy having conversations with my readers and my fellow authors. I enjoy reading what other people have written (sometimes).

What I Write

I do not like to meddle with canon very much. Therefore, my stories will usually take place either before or after the official canon events. However, there may be some exceptions.

Something I like to explore is what happens when someone who has power loses it, or finds out they were never that powerful to begin with. They can earn new powers, sometimes even stronger than the ones they had before, but they have to earn said powers. If I ever do one of those sappy "find the power within yourself" stories, it's either a joke or I need to be slapped. Actually, given my questionable excuse for a sense of humor, I probably just need to be slapped whether it's a joke or not.

I'm also big on redemption stories. Whether they did something by accident, or they made a choice that they regret, or even if they really had no choice in the matter, I find it inspiring when a character fights to fix what they've done. Good is a choice, not something you're born being.

So far my work mostly consists of my own special brand of next-generation stories. These aren't necessarily about the children of the main characters, but are instead about the newest group of heroes, who may or may not have any relationship with the previous generation.

I divide my stories into a few categories based on their length and their importance to me.
Mainline stories are large in scale, both in terms of length and setting. They tend to be fairly complex, crossing various genre boundaries with impunity.
Sideline stories are much smaller in terms of setting, although no guarantees about length. They tend to be simpler, focusing on exploring a much smaller topic.
One-shots and two-shots are exactly that, short stories that are over almost as soon as they begin. These can be funny, weird, or dark.
Collections are groups of one-shots that share a theme.

Things I Will Not Write

SYOC stories. I won't. I just won't do it. If I'm going to write my story, it's going to be with my characters. With characters I create I know where they stand, and how they think.

Anything that completely disregards the setting of the story. For me the biggest draw isn't the characters or the plot, but the world it takes place in. Because of this, I don't really care enough about characters by themselves to want to put them in some generic setting with none of what made them unique to begin with (cough, high school AUs, cough).

Complaints

Mornings are evil.

Please people, try to come up with ORIGINAL names for your OCs! Unless it's plot relevant, taking the name of a canon character is completely unacceptable, and please, please, please stop using the same tired worn out names for characters! I think the worst example has to be people naming Musa's daughters Harmony or Melody. I am sick of these names. I even have a few suggestions for alternative names for Musa's children:
-Lyra. From the word lyrics. Also, there's an instrument called a lyre.
-Aria. An aria is a type of song.
-Suzana. A very scrambled version of the word stanza.
See? Not that hard. Please try to exercise some creativity.

Oh, and for all you PJ&O writers out there. Artemis is CELIBATE. NO CHILDREN. NO HUSBAND. NO BOYFRIEND. EVER. Get over it.
