Chapter 1: Horizon High: Part 1

A normal guy with a normal life
I have no specialty; mediocrity

*Groan*
"Why did I put the alarm so early?" I groaned as he moves over of the covers of his blankets and slowly sits up on his bed as the song plays. "Well better turn it off." He said as he gets up from his bed and walks to his desk to turn off his phone's alarm.
"GO GO BRAVO!"
*Beep*
"Alarm Off"
"Now let's see what time it is." He said as he looks at his phone's clock. "Hmmm 5:31am about the right time I wanted to wake up, but now I'm starting to think it might be too much spare time before school for me. Oh well, live and learn." He said as he now puts on some clothes, he had on top his desk chair. First, he puts on a pair of black workout shorts and then a John Cena 'You Can't Stop Me' muscle t-shirt. "Time to work out or train in my case." He said as he starts to do some stretches before his training routine.
-40 mintues later-
*Phew*
"Still odd to being in a body that is a bit more physically fit than my old one or in this case slightly better shape and no asthma to act up when I go crazy on the workout." He said as he finishes drying himself off after he was done in the shower. "Now to get dress for school and ready for a slight bird and spider infestation for today's special guests from Horizon today." He said as he gets dress in his usually school outfit. That being black jeans, red/black/and white basketball shoes, blue t-shirt, and his N7 Mass Effect zip-up hoodie. After getting dressed he heads to the door. "Now time for some breakfast." He said as he opens his bedroom door and enters the hallway as he heads downstairs.
*Sniff*
"Smells like someone's making eggs." He said slightly loud as he makes it down and head to the kitchen. "And sounds like someone's done with their workout." Said a woman's voice from the kitchen. "Hey if I don't work out some in the morning I'll forget, also it helps me prepare in case the weather for today is looking super with a chance of it raining heroes and villains out there." I replied in a sarcastic like tone. "You better hope I don't see you on the news doing something dangerous if your weather forecast is accurate." She said in a tone that while sounded jokily, but actually very serious about that. "Of course, not mom I may work out and practice some fighting moves, but there's no way I can even hope to face that kind of stuff even with an umbrella." He replied a bit jokily as he helps his mom by setting up the table. "I'm serious Burnie, also do you want any bacon with your scrambled eggs?" She asked as she nears finishing cooking the eggs and bacon. "Only one and broken into bits on top the eggs please mom." He replied as he finished setting up the table. "Sounds good, can I get what he's having Glory?" Asked man, that now enters the kitchen, to the mom now named Glory. "Sure, thing Harvey." Replied Glory to the now named Harvey. "So, any reason why you are up early for school?" Asked Harvey to Burnie. "I just want to be early for school to help out dad." I replied to my dad, Harvey. "Oh yeah that Horizon High place are doing some demonstration at your school today and you volunteered to help out your friends set up and make a welcoming speech too." Harvey said to me. "Yeah, and figured I should be early since Peter is also helping and well you know how his luck has been lately when being on time." I said to my dad. "Well then it's a good then breakfast is ready you two." Said Glory as she hands them their plates. "Thanks Mom/Glory!" I and Harvey both said happily as all three of they dig in.
"You're probably wondering who they are or look like if for some reason my theory that the possible 4th wall views of my new life are seeing it in the form of words. Well the lady that is around her 40's, I won't say exactly how old since that's rude, is my mom Glory Huston. She is wearing black dress pants, her black shirt under her lime green business long sleeve shirt, with her black dress shoes. She is an accountant for a company that distributes specialty gases from what I remember. She has brown eyes, black shoulder length hair, and white skin tone. Then there is my dad, Harvey Huston, from what I remember he worker with tools in a place that smells like metal, which I did not care for the smell. He is around his early 50's, has short shaggy dirty blond hair, green eyes, and a slight tanned skin tone. He is wearing worn blue jeans, brown work boots, and a white In-N-Out shirt, you know the ones you can buy from them. Anyway, they seem to be similar to my previous parents, but difference is I was more open to them about my problems instead of keeping a straight happy face and powering through it most of the time and they are slightly more understanding. They still either want me to try and socialize more or figure out what I want to do in the future problem with that last one is that if I don't figure out some way to get some super powers and some actually training from a pro soon I don't think I can live to see my future as long as I live in New York."

(Midtown High-Hallways)
"Okay the auditorium is ready for Horizon High's demonstration today, thanks for actually making it on time Burnie." Said Liz Allen as her, Burnie, and Randy Robertson were in the hallways after finishing setting up the auditorium and having the speech ready. "No problem Liz what are friends for? And I figured I help in case Peter's quote 'Parker Luck' made him late again." I replied. "Heh, Parker Luck, that would explain why he's always showing up late a lot and wasn't here this morning, but why did you have to ask me to help too?" Asked Randy towards Liz and I. "Well, I figured since you want to be journalist, I figured you can help Liz with the speech since I am sort of a mix bag when it comes to speeches Randy." I replied. "Hmmm that does make sense, but I wish you didn't have Liz be the one to insist on it." Randy replied in a tired tone. "Hey! What is that supposed to mean? Liz said annoyed at Randy's comment. "Don't mind him Liz, Randy just meant that you made it sound more like an order then a request to help a friend, out right?" I said looking at Randy trying to save his skin. "Right, I was just a little tired when you asked Liz." Randy replied quickly trying to calm Liz down. "Your glad I'm more upset about Parker being late than at that comment Randy." Liz said slightly annoyed, mostly at Parker. "I bet Peter forgot he even volunteered and if he just realized by now, then I guess he will either heading right over or is in the science lab working on something." I said to Liz with a smirk since he already knowns the truth thanks to his foreknowledge. "What makes you say that Burnie?" Asked Randy curious on why that sounded specific. "Well because I know Peter a bit and I think I see him in the science lab right now from the door's window." I replied as I point to the science lab's door. "Huh that is Peter, wonder how long's he's been there?" Said Randy. "Well, he's about to be in trouble that's for sure." Liz replied in an angry tone ready to tear Peter a new one. "Ah come on Liz its Peter we're talking about he most likely got caught up with whatever he does that makes him forget any immediate thing he had plan, heck I would think he was an undercover alien in disguise if he wasn't." Burnie replied with a slight grin. 'Really hope I didn't just jinx myself into facing this universe's Secret Skull Invasion.' He thought to himself. "Still doesn't excuse him Burnie and he was the one who volunteered to help since he was excited for this." Liz replied to Burnie.
The science lab's door slams open as Liz walks in as she says. "Parker you know that you missed it." "I know I'm sorry Liz, but once I missed it, I figured I just catch up on some school work," Parker replied. "You're always at the wrong place at the wrong time, Parker," said Liz in a slightly annoyed tone since this isn't the first time Peter has done this. "Luckily, Randy and Burnie were here to help," Liz said as she crosses her arms together below her chest. "Yeah, more like I was orde*uff*um I mean asked strongly to help." Randy replied as Burnie elbowed him on the side to stop him from getting Liz angry at him again. "I also figured your quote 'Parker Luck' would make you late again." I replied as I made air quotes on that "Parker Luck" comment. "Thanks guys," replied Peter. "What temperature do you think a viscous liquid needs to reach before it achieves its maximum density?" Peter asked. "Got me. You're the egghead, remember?" Randy replied. "Peter we've known each how long? Did you already forget that isn't really my area of expertness?" I replied, wondering why he thought any of us would known the answer to that. "I'm just the guy doing a story on Max Modell for the school's website. How awesome is it that there's a school specifically for geniuses and that they're coming here for recruits?" Randy said as two people walk into the science lab. "Uh, here come the Smythes. Really preferred the 1990's versions over these two." "Huh. It can't be that good if that snob Harry Osborn got in." Alister Smythe said arrogantly as he sits atop the lab table Randy is next to, which leads to Randy backing away from him. "As far as I can tell, Horizon High is on par with a 4H club." Said Alistair. "Exactly. If the four H's are hardworking heroes who help," Peter replied. "One of your H's is a W, Parker," replied Liz. Peter replied with, "Hey, I'm a science geek, not a spelling geek." "Well, if Horizon High is legit, then Alistair Smythe is sure to be invited in next," said Alistair. I was about to make a counter response to his statement, until his dad placed his hand on his left shoulder and said, "You're too good for them, son. Max Modell is an overrated lab assistant. I knew him back in the day, and he's a fraud." "Sure, guess that makes sense, because why else would…," before I can finish sarcastically replying back to Mr. Smythe Liz's phone rings. "*Ring*Ring*Ring* Oh, it's 9:00. We should be starting," Liz said as she pulled her phone out of her bag. "Saved by the bell I guess, since I just forgot Mr. Smythe is a teacher here and unlike Peter in the future I still go here." I thought as I just realized I could have just ticked of one of my Highschool teachers.
_Time skip_
*Slight deep breathing* "Okay so I kind of forgot that Vulture happened sometime after the vibration machine goes haywire thanks to Mr. Smythe. Guess I can now joke how I'm faster than sound now." I thought as I am just finished dodging the sound waves and am now besides Liz closing in on the doors. "Liz you alright?" I asked in concern even though she doesn't look to be injured. *Sighs in relief* "I'm fine Burnie, just can't believe this is happening." Liz replied relieved that she didn't get hit by the sudden soundwaves. "Okay then how about you quickly go outside and call 911, while I make sure that Spider-Man guy actually can handle this and not make everything worse." I said so I can make sure Liz gets to safety and I make sure Peter doesn't get in over his head. "Wait you just want me to leave, while you stay here no way!" Liz replied thinking Burnie sounded crazy. "Liz someone responsible enough need to contact the authorize and tell them exactly what is going on, while I play crowd control here and make sure the others are safe and that this web-head of a hero doesn't just add fuel to the fire. Liz I'll be fine okay?" I replied back to Liz to ensure her that things will be okay for me here. "Fine, but you better not need the ambulance when they get here, or I'll make sure you'll be sent to the ICU." Liz replied with a roll of her eyes. "Sure, thing Liz, now go." I replied as Liz now starts leaving the auditorium to call 911.
"You know I wonder why she called herself Screwball, when she started wearing the costume." I thought to myself as Liz left. "Oh well, questions for later but right now this. *Breathes in* HEY WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A PARADE GET OUT TO SAFETY BEFORE THE ROOF FALLS ON TOP OF US AND TURNS US ALL TO HUMAN PANCAKES!" I yell out loud to get all the students that haven't left yet to try and watch Spider-Man at work. And as luck would have it, after I finished yelling a piece of the roof just started to fall on top of Spider-Man. "Woah he's right the roof is falling!" Shouted a random student in a scared tone and they just realized they danger they were in, and so a large proportion of them ran away while some stayed including me. "Everyone that still here try to keep your heads down and watch out when that machine glows, since that means it's about to release another soundwave LIKE NOW!" I stated as another soundwave is released just as Spider-Man finishes tossing the piece of roof off of him and onto the seats nearby him.
"Ta-da!" Spider-Man said towards the group of students staring at him as he has hands out on the side. "Who's that guy?" Asked a random male student wearing a red varsity jacket. "That's Spider-Man now stay down dangers not over yet!" I reply, answering the student's question as I also remind him that it still isn't safe yet. "Seriously Peter show bout later, stop dangerous device now!" I think to myself, before realizing that Peter is still a newbie at this superhero stuff, while I'm just a comic book geek from another life. "And now Peter just deactivated the device, which caused a fire and he's now changing into his normal clothes, so I better get ready to help my friend out." "Okay everyone the soundwaves are down, but I need someone to either see if the fire department is on their way or to grab some fire extinguishers in case they won't be here soon enough, so we can try to suppress these flames until they get here!" I shout to everyone still in the auditorium. "Right, I'll go anyone's been able to call 911," said a random female student as she exits towards the halls. "Okay better get on stage to play my part." I mumble to myself quietly as I head towards the stage just as Peter show's up at the device.
"Hey Peter, where you come from?" I asked him, acting like I was clueless his secret. "Oh well, I thought it would be a good idea to hide backstage, but now I'm using Max's equation to try and put these flames out." Peter answered as he starts talking to himself as he does the process and then activates it causing the device to produce a light blue beam that shoots upwards and creates a rain cloud putting out the flames. "Wow, that's amazing Peter!" I said with an excited tone, since seeing on the screen is one thing, but actually being there witnessing it is amazing. Peter is enjoying the moment as the student's cheer on, until Anya walks up to the device on turns it off, once all the flames were extinguished. "All my work. What did you do?" Asked Anya clearly sounding upset. "Uh, sorry." Peter replied as I just roll my eyes at this. "Why couldn't you just let that beetle kid handle it?" Anya asked Peter, while I just had enough of this. "Okay, um Anya was it? First, I believe that's kid's name was Spider-Man, and secondly Peter here just used Max's equation to put out all those flames. Also, why you sound so upset not like he smashed your device that caused this mess, if you're so smart then you can make it work again in no time." I said to Anya with a ticked off look on my face as I defend my friend. *Grunts angrily* Anya just gives up and walks away. "Why you do that Burnie?" Peter said to me as if I grew a second head. "What? I was just defending my friend that helped save the day, while she didn't bother to help out all and just snaps at you as if this is your fault." I replied back not ashamed of my actions just now. "Calm down Pete, bad news for Burnie is that she'll hate him for life and maybe you too. But good news is, you both don't go to her school." Said Harry as he walks up to us. My eyes widen as I just remembered Liz, "Um sorry to run out of here, but I got go find Liz and tell her everything is fine now. Bye guys!" I shout the last part as I dash out of the auditorium to find Liz so she doesn't kill me making her worry.
_Time skip_
"Okay so Liz was kind of upset, but once I explained had things went, she cooled down. Also, everything else played out as it did in the show with Harry getting framed and Vulture showing up. Then Peter getting the slot into Horizon High, which I am trying to figure out how to get a meeting with Modell to try and find a way of Peter and May to afford the tuition payments. Maybe from that page from that Supervillainous webcomic I liked back in my old life."
Location changed to the inside of a gym with some punching and speed bags on the sides, along with a ring spaced in the middle, and some weightlifting gear on the other side of the room with the words Demolition Gym printed on the wall. "Hey D-man, sorry I'm late just got side-tracked on the way here!" I shout out as I enter the gym. "Seriously Burns, do you have to call me that, you know my name's Dennis Dunphy right?" Asked Dennis the gym owner. "Hehe, I know Dennis, but come on D-man is a good nickname considering you are the Demolition Man." I respond in a slightly excited tone. "I used to be the Demolition Man, Burns but those days are over. Only demolition this man does is at the gym." He said as he points his thumb at himself to make a point.
"Yep, that's right folks, this gym is owned and run by Dennis Dunphy, aka the Demolition Man. See back when I was trying to find a gym that was affordable and some gym equipment I was looking for to train my body up, I had no luck so far since most gyms I saw didn't interest me. Then I happen to come across this place and the rest is history, for now."
"Okay, but I'm still going to call you D-man in my head Dennis." I said with a smirk on my face. "You gonna talk all day or are you gonna get in the ring." Dennis asked as he steps into the ring. "I'm going, I'm going but you won't believe what happened at my school today." I said as I drop my backpack by the ring and step in to spar against Dennis.
_Time Skip_
"Ow. Even for a former superhero that did not have major roles in the comics, he sure packs a punch. But I did manage to last a few rounds against him, although if he didn't have to hold back his strength, I would have been beaten easy." *Sighs* I sigh as I am done with my gym workout for the day after an hour and am now seating at the usual fast food joint I hang out at while I wait for my dad to pick up and take me home. "At least I can still enjoy a McDouble in this universe." I said out loud to no one as I take a bite out of my McDouble with no cheese. *Chews* "Still can't figure out how the heck I even gonna power up before I bond with Venom, or even if I can bond with them. And sadly, no matter how hard I tired I am still more of a dreamer than a tech-wiz." *Swallows* I then grab my soft drink and take some sips. *Slurp* "Since I don't plan to tell Peter or anyone about my plans, I got no tech support to rely on and it's not like powers are just gonna come crawling to my lap." I think to myself as I continue to eat my food, unaware of strange spider that has been under my table and is now starting to crawl into my backpack that is laying against the table's support beam. *Breathes In and Out* "Maybe I just need to be a little more patient since if I try to rush myself into powers, I could land myself into a Thing, Hulk, or Lizard situation. And while I would prefer none of the above, I doubt I would be lucky going gamma power or handle a spilt personality out of my control." I mutter to myself as the spider manages to crawl safely into my slightly unzipped backpack pocket. If given a close look the spider, you would notice that it is a dark shade of blue with strange red markings that almost look like a skull on its' abdomen. "GO GO BRAVO!" *Vibration noises* "Oh that's probably dad." I say as my phone's ringtone goes off. I then go to answer the phone, with the caller id verifying that it is my father. "Hey dad, you almost here?" I ask as I answer my phone. "Hey son, yeah about to head into the parking area, so you better be ready when I get there." He replied. "Sure, thing dad just about done here to see you soon." *Click* I said back to him as I hang up and get ready to throw my trash into the bins. "Oh, almost forgot my backpack." I said to myself as I just tossed my trash into the bin and quickly grab my backpack from under the table, leaving the zipper unzipped and still unaware of the spider hiding inside it as I head out the front door of the McDonalds. *HONK! HONK!* "Come on son, we're burning gas here!" Shouted my dad from his blue pickup truck parked by the right side of the restaurant. "Alright! Alright, I'm coming dad!" I shout back at him as I dash to his car and get seated. "So how was your day, crazy?" He asked me with a look saying he knows something happened at school today. "I'll explain later during dinner dad, don't want to repeat myself to mom, but I promise it isn't my fault." I replied with slight exhausted tone, since I know my mom is gonna freak at me. "Hehe, whatever you say." He replied back.
_Time Skip_
"Wait you did what?!" My mom shouted as we see me and my parents eating dinner. "MOM! I said I was trying to help, since a handful of classmates decided that is was a brilliant idea to stick around a dangerous technology malfunction that was going to drop the roof on top of them, and that the room was starting to catch fire!" I replied in an annoyed tone, a bit at my mom overreacting but mostly at the fact those students decided to stick around instead of run like heck. "Have to agree Glory, those kids sounded like a bunch of turkeys staring at the rain, and besides he's fine." Harvey said trying to calm my mom's worried mood. "But he could have been hurt Harvey." Glory said in response. "Mom please relax it wasn't that dangerous, besides after I left to find Liz, I heard some guy called "The Vulture" flew in and attack Mr. Modell but he got stopped by Spider-Man." I said to my mom as I did air quotes on Vulture. "What?!" Glory shouted in shock. "I said after I left, and by the sounds of it I am lucky to staying at Midtown than Peter is going to Horizon." I said hoping to calm my mom down. *Sighs* "You shouldn't say stuff like that, Peter is your friend and I dare think what May would think if that was even true of Peter's life being in danger going to Horizon High." My mom said in a disappointed tone. "Well, this is New York but at least it seems like this Spider-Man can handle it so it shouldn't be too much trouble." My dad said in a joking like tone. "What's that mean?" Both me and my mom asked at the same time. "Well, I saw a post with an image of the guy, or at least a co-worker showed me one, and from the looks of it this Spider-Man fellow is wearing some average clothes so he's new and by that logic the villains that he tends to face aren't that bad either." My dad said. "Okay one even if that made sense doesn't mean the bad guys will play fair and two maybe the guy's tailor is just slow." I replied. "I didn't say it made sense. I'm just saying son the guy seems new to the hero game." My dad replied. "Oh, okay then so can I please have seconds?" I ask my parents with grin.
_Time Skip_
It is now nighttime in New York, and we see Burnie getting ready for bed with his backpack laying right next to his bed with his bedroom door slightly open. "Good night son!" My mom shouted from the hallway. "Good night!" *Shut* I said as I close my bedroom door shut. *Yawns* "Well no luck figuring out how to get powers or tech support without getting anyone I know involved. Oh well maybe I'll dream something up." *Switch* I say to myself as I turn off the lights in my room off and head to bed. "Who knows maybe I'll be visited by a dream spirit that will give me power. Ha, as if I'm that lucky." I joke to myself as I lay in my bed and try to sleep, unaware off the spider that was in my backpack and is now crawling towards my bed. The spider continues to crawl to my bed as I toss and turn in my bed trying to relax, but unable to keeping me awake even with me keeping my eyes closed. "Come on Burnie relax and stop thinking." I mutter to myself as the spider has now crawled to the top of my bed and now crawling on my pillow straight to my neck as I am laying on my sides. "You need to relax and sleep. When the morning comes, I'll be refreshed to think of new ideas to get powers." "Wait why does my neck feel funny?" I say out loud as I feel something off on the back of my neck, first thinking its my hair when in fact is the spider on it and it raises it head to bite down. "OUCH! What…zzz" I shout in quick pain, but before I can finish my thought I suddenly fall asleep, almost as if that spider bite put me to sleep from its' venom. As the camera focuses back on his neck, it is shown that the spider is now gone, as if it was never there.
_Scene Change_
The scene changes from the boy's bedroom to some strange looking library of sorts, indicated by the bookshelves in the room. *Step* *Step* The room echoes by the sound of footsteps made by a pair of sleek black boots. The view goes up from the pair of shoes to the dark gray pants that are worn with them, and then to the dark gray women's dress coat that is buttoned over the white dress shirt and gray tie, and then we see some sort of helmet is worn on the head of the person. The room is not properly lit are the moment so the helmet is covered in shadows, but what can be made out of it is the glowing green circles on the front, must likely for the eyes of the owner to see through. We can also see that she seems to be reading a book of some kind. "So shall a new chapter, a new tale be born, or shall this story that has now taken a slight change in its' course simply go back to being the same old tale? Only the webs and the spiders who weave them can decide."
Author's Note
Hey everyone, Spawn Spider here so sorry it took me this long to update the story. A lot of stuff happened and sadly I am going to be starting up classes again, but this time I am actually gonna try to keep myself motivated to make an effort in updating this story. That is why I am currently trying to work on the next chapter, but it is going to take some time so please be patient. I should have out later this month, but with things going on in my life I and how my motivation goes I can't make any solid promises that it will be soon. Also if you haven't already noticed, I released "Respawned Tales," which shall be my main spot for my other fanfiction ideas that I just wanna get out of my head, or see if there is a possibility of turning them into their own story too. Well sorry about there not being much action in this story, but I still having trouble how to right that stuff, but also thought I save that for the next chapter, I think. I just hope I can get the next chapter done alright and hope y'all will enjoy it when it is out.
