Chapter 15: Dash's Mistake.
One day, a few weeks later, while Mirage had gone to work, the Incredibles had gotten a call to a crime scene. There was a robot that had shown up and was causing havoc downtown. The Incredibles were just finishing up the fight, when suddenly, the robot released a small car-like drone that went after Speed Demon. Miss Stealth tried to hit it with her force fields, but it dodged every blast. Mr. Incredible scanned it with analyzing tech given by the NSA. It was a drone designed to target whoever it was programmed to and chase them down. However, function beyond that was a mystery. After a few minutes of Dash zipping around, it became apparent that the drone was following him. Once it got close, it started beeping. Dash looked confused before it started beeping faster.
"Uh-oh, I think it's on a countdown!" Dash said before he ran off, with the drone following him at surprisingly great speed. He tried to lose it, only for it to follow him everywhere he went.
"Stuck like green on a shamrock." Dash said he zoomed around faster. The drone chased him and soon caught up to him before it started to beep.
"That's not good." Dash said before it started beeping faster. Dash then realized it might be a weapon and started to try and shake it off, only for it to find a way to get past every obstacle. Sooner or later, Dash saw it look like it was ready to leap and activate whatever its function was. At the same time, he saw a company car ahead and, since no civilians were close, he made a plan. He ducked under the drone when it leaped before he kicked it and it flew through the back window of the car. It then let off a bright flash of light and Dash saw the car parts fall under it before the frames underneath did too. The car then collapsed before the drone blasted it off like a firework, right on to a pile of cases.
"Woah, that was close." Dash said before the rest of his family arrived.
"Good job getting rid of that drone, Dash. But, try to be a little more reckless next time." Mr. Incredible said.
"All right, Dad." Dash said before they left. However, what they didn't see was the car's driver coming to where it was and seeing what had happened.
"What happened?!" Mirage asked.
Later, having taken a taxi back to the office she worked at, Mirage went to her boss' office. He had technology supplied by DevTech that let him keep track of the car, acting as a security camera that showed him what had happened to the company car.
"Sir, I have to apologize-" Mirage got cut off.
"Don't say a thing, Mirage." The boss said.
"I don't know what happened. I left the car and cases there and when I came back, they had been destroyed." Mirage said.
"Well, lucky for you, one of our cameras was there." the boss said. He pushed a button and a security feed showed Dash kicking the drone into the car.
"Him?!" Mirage asked.
"You know that boy?" the boss asked.
Mirage couldn't answer. If she did, she might say something that would reveal the Incredibles' identities.
"I happen to be good friends with his family." Mirage said.
"Well, might I ask why you let him do that?" the boss asked.
"I didn't let him do it!" Mirage said.
"Even still, that car was your responsibility. You also got those cases destroyed. They held important data. I'm gonna have to let you go." the boss said.
Mirage was shocked. She was being fired over something Dash did?! She was going to have a talk with him when she got back.
