Chapter 56: A New Hope Part 5
Lisa ran alongside Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca in the cell bay hallway as she took out her lightsabers to prepare herself for the coming stormtroopers.
"Can't get out that way."Han commented.
"Looks like you managed to cut off our only escape route."Leia admitted.
"Maybe you'd like it back in your cell, Your Highness."Han suggested sarcastically.
"Move out the way!"Lisa demanded.
Lisa used her lightsabers to deflect the lasers from the stormtroopers' blasters to protect her twin brother and companions.
The Jedi girl stood next to Luke and Leia as blasts were fired in the hallway.
"Threepio!"Luke shouted in his comlink. "Threepio!"
"Yes, sir?"Threepio asked.
"Are there any other ways out of the cell bay?"Luke demanded as more blasts fired in the background. "We've been cut off!"
"I said all systems have been alerted to your presence, sir."Threepio admitted. "The main entrance seems to be the only way in or out. All other information on your level is restricted."
"There isn't any other way out!"Luke declared as he took out his blaster.
Han and Chewbacca were barely able to keep the stormtroopers at bay at the far and of the hallway.
"Argh!"Han scowled as he moved out of the way. "I can't hold them off forever! Now what?!"
"This is some rescue!"Leia said with a hint of sarcasm. "You came in here and you didn't have a plan for getting out?"
"They're the brains, sweetheart!"Han declared, gesturing to Luke and Lisa.
"Well, I didn't-"Luke started.
Leia grabbed Luke's blaster and shot at the garbage chute next to Lisa.
"What the hell are you doing?"Han questioned.
"Somebody has to save our skins!"Leia declared.
"Into the garbage chute, flyboy!"
Leia threw the blaster back to Luke before going into the garbage chute followed by Lisa.
Lisa landed in the garage chute causing a disgusted look to grow on her face of stepping into the dirty water with her boots.
Han, Chewbacca and Luke jumped into the garbage chute after taking down a few stormtroopers.
"The garbage chute was a really wonderful idea!"Han complained. "What an incredible smell you've discovered!"
"Too bad the Force can't block out the smell."Lisa muttered as she deactivated her lightsabers and placed them away.
"Let's get out of here."Han insisted. "Get away from there."
"No, wait!"Luke protested.
Han drew his laser pistol and fired at the hatch causing the laser bolt to ricochet wildly around the small metal room.
Everyone dived for cover in the garbage as the bolt explodes almost on top of them.
Leia climbed out of the garbage with a grim look on her face while Lisa glared at Han.
"Will you forget it?!"Luke argued. "I already tried it! It's magnetically sealed!"
"Put that thing away!"Leia snapped. "You're gonna get us all killed!"
"Absolutely, Your Worship."Han retorted. "Look, I had everything under control till you led us down here! Ya know, it's not gonna take 'em long to figure out what happened to us!"
"It could be worse."Leia commented.
Lisa became alarmed when she sensed danger in the garbage chute as a loud, horrible, inhuman moan worked its way up from the murky depths.
"There's something alive here."Lisa declared.
"That's your imagination, blondie."Han replied.
"It's not my imagination, Solo."Lisa scowled sharply. "We are not alone here."
"Something just moved past my leg!"Luke stated as a tentacle moved past between him and Lisa. "Look! Did you see that?"
"What?"Han questioned.
Suddenly Luke was yanked under the garbage.
"Kid!"Han yelled out.
"Luke!"Leia and Lisa shouted in unison.
Luke surfaced with a gasp of air while a membrane tentacle was wrapped around his throat.
"Luke, grab hold of this!"Leia insisted.
Leia and Lisa extended a long pipe toward Luke.
"Blast it, will you!"Luke protested. "My gun's jammed."
"Where?"Han asked.
"Anywhere!"Luke answered.
The water closed over Luke's head as a loud clanging sound filled the air.
But then Luke came back to the surface and all the tentacles gone causing Lisa to help him up.
"Luke, what happened?"Lisa demanded.
"I don't know."Luke responded. "It just let go of me and disappeared."
"I got a bad feeling about this."Han admitted.
Chewbacca let out a nervous growl as the walls began to rumble and edge toward the rebels.
"The walls are moving!"Luke shouted.
"Don't just stand there!"Leia snapped. "Try and brace it with something!"
Lisa picked up a long pipe to put it between the moving walls.
"Help us!"Lisa protested with a small glare.
Han went up to Leia and Lisa to help them hold the pipe.
However, the pipe along with place poles and long metal beams between the closing walls were easily snapped and bent as the giant trash smasher rumbled on.
"Wait a minute!"Luke responded and took out his comlink. "Threepio! Come in, Threepio! Threepio!"
Lisa, Han, Leia and Chewbacca continued to try and brace the walls while Luke called periodically for Threepio.
"Threepio!"Luke shouted. "Come in, Threepio!"
"Get on top!"Han ordered.
"I can't!"Leia answered.
"Ugh!"Lisa scowled and placed the broken pipe down. "Nothing seems to working!"
"Where could he be?!"Luke demanded. "Threepio! Threepio, will you come in!"
"One thing's for sure, we're all gonna be a lot thinner."Han declared and looked at Leia. "Get on top of it."
Leia fell into the trash and Han helped her up.
"I'm trying."Leia responded.
Lisa glanced at Luke with an irritated look.
"Luke!"Lisa shouted. "Why isn't Threepio answering?!"
Suddenly Threepio responded Luke's comlink.
"Are you there, sir?"Threepio asked. "We've had some problems."
"Will you shut up and listen to me?!"Luke snapped. "Shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level, will ya?! Do you copy!? Shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level!"
The wall got closer causing Lisa to climb up some of the trash to prevent herself from being crushed.
"Shut them all down!"Luke yelled out.
When the walls stopped at the last moment, the five rebels cried out in joyous relief as they embraced one another.
"Listen to them!"Threepio's voice panicked. "They're dying, Artoo! Curse my metal body! I wasn't fast enough. It's all my fault! My poor master!"
"We're all right!"Luke assured happily. "You did great!"
"It was close call, Threepio!"Lisa remarked. "But we're all fine!"
"Hey!"Luke laughed. "Open the pressure maintenance hatch on unit number...where are we?"
Han went over to the hatch door.
"3263827!"Han exclaimed.
When the hatch door opened, the five rebels went out of the garbage chute and arrived into a hallway.
Han and Luke removed their trooper suits and strapped on their blaster belts.
"If we can just avoid any more female advice, we ought to be able to get outta here. Well, let's get moving."Han declared.
Chewbacca growled in agreement before he began walking away.
"Where are you going?"Han questioned.
Suddenly something bangs against the hatch and a long, slimy tentacle worked its way out of the doorway searching for a victim causing Han to aim his pistol at it.
"No, wait!"Leia protested. "They'll hear!"
Han fired at the doorway, making the noise of the blast echo relentlessly throughout the empty passageway.
Luke simply shook his head in disgust while Lisa angrily face palmed.
"Idiot."Lisa thought in a grim tone.
Han glared at Chewbacca.
"Come here, you big coward."Han ordered. "Chewie, come here."
Chewbacca shook his head in fear as Leia walked up to Han.
"Listen...I don't know who you are or where you came from, but from now on, you do as I tell you, okay?"Leia ordered.
"Look, Your Worshipfulness, let's get one thing straight."Han said as he, Leia, Luke and Lisa walked down the corridor. "I take orders from just one person me."
"It's a wonder you're still alive."Leia scoffed and notice Chewbacca in her way. "Will somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way?"
Lisa followed Leia as Han looked at Luke.
"No reward is worth this."Han admitted.
"What?"Leia asked.
"I may have told him you would pay him if we rescued you."Lisa admitted with a nervous grin. "Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to save you in time."
"Thanks for tell me."Leia said with a hint of disappointment.
In the Power Trench of the Death Star...
Suddenly a door behind Obi-Wan slid open and a detachment of stormtroopers marches to the power trench.
The Jedi master instantly slipped into the shadows as an imperial officer moved to within a few feet of him.
"Give me regular reports, please."the first stormtrooper said.
"Right."the second stormtrooper replied.
"Do you know what's going on?"the first stormtrooper asked.
"Maybe it's another drill."the second stormtrooper suggested.
Obi-Wan moved around the tractor beam, watching the stormtroopers as they turn their backs to him.
The old Jedi master gestured with his hand toward them as the stormtroopers think they hear something in the other hallway.
With the help of the Force, he deftly slipped past the stormtroopers and into the main hallway.
"What was that?"the second stormtrooper questioned.
"Ah, it's nothing."the first stormtrooper replied. "Outgassing. Don't worry about it."
In the Corridor...
Luke, Han, Chewbacca, Leia and Lisa ran down an empty hallway and stop before a bay window overlooking the Millennium Falcon.
Lisa gripped on her lightsabers seeing the stormtroopers guarding the ship as Luke took out his comlink.
"There she is."Han said.
"Threepio?"Luke asked. "Do you copy?"
"Yes, sir."Threepio responded.
"Are you safe?"Luke questioned.
"For the moment."Threepio admitted. "We're in the main hangar across from the ship."
"We're right above you."Luke stated. "Stand by."
Han watched the stormtroopers moving out of the Millennium Falcon.
"You came in that thing?"Leia asked. "You're braver than I thought."
"Nice."Han replied simply and looked at the twins. "Come on."
The five rebels start off down the hallway, round a corner and run right into a bunch of Imperial stormtroopers heading toward them.
Both groups were taken by surprise and stop in their tracks.
"It's them!"
"Blast them!"
Han fired his blaster and knocks one of the stormtroopers into the air before he started running.
Chewbacca followed his captain down the corridor, stepping over the fallen trooper on the floor.
"Get back to the ship!"Han yelled out
"Where are you going?"Luke demanded. "Come back!"
"He certainly has courage."Leia remarked.
"What good will it do us if he gets himself killed?"Lisa scoffed with a frown.
"Come on!"Luke ordered.
Luke lead Leia and Lisa toward the hangar, where the Millennium Falcon was.
Lisa activated her yellow lightsaber to protect her companions as Luke fired his blaster at the stormtroopers.
Luke, Leia and Lisa raced through the hatch onto a narrow bridge that spanned a huge deep shaft that seems to go into infinity.
"I think we took a wrong turn."Luke declared.
Lisa used the force with her free hand to sent the stormtroopers back before Leia reached over and hits a switch that made the hatch door shut.
"We've got to get across."Lisa insisted and looked at her brother. "Luke, find the controls that extend the bridge."
"I think I just blasted it."Luke reminded.
"Yikes."Lisa mumbled.
Luke and Lisa looked at the blasted bridge control while the stormtroopers on the opposite side of the door began making ominous drilling and pounding sounds.
"They're coming through!"Leia warned.
Lisa used the force to jump herself to the other side to throw the firing stormtrooper down to his death.
The blonde haired girl notice Luke and Leia to look at her in awe.
"Hey, I'm a Jedi."Lisa reminded with a smirk. "I know how to use the force."
Luke smiled at his sister before handing his blaster to Leia.
"Here, hold this."Luke instructed.
Leia held the blaster as Luke pulled a thin nylon cable from his trooper utility belt which had a grappler hook on it.
Leia fired at the stormtroopers as Lisa took cover to prevent herself from being shot.
Suddenly the hatch door began to open behind Luke and Leia causing Lisa to call out to them.
"Luke! Leia!"Lisa shouted. "You need to jump now!"
Luke tosses the rope across the gorge and it wraps itself around an outcropping of pipes.
The former farm boy tugged on the rope to make sure it is secure, then grabbed the princess in his arms.
Leia gives Luke a kiss on the cheek.
"For luck."Leia declared.
Luke pushed off and they swing across the abyss to the corresponding hatchway on the opposite side, where Lisa was waiting for them.
When Luke and Leia reached the far side of the canyon, the stormtroopers broke through the hatch door and began to fire at the escaping trio.
Luke returns the fire and Lisa deflected their attacks before ducking into the sub-hallway.
In the Corridor...
Han and Chewbacca ran down a long corridor with several stormtroopers hot on their trail.
At the end of the hallway, blast doors began to close in front of them.
The smuggler and the wookiee raced past the huge doors just as they are closing, and managed to get off a couple off laser blasts at the pursuing stormtroopers before the doors slammed shut.
Meanwhile...
Obi-Wan hurried along one of the tunnels leading to the hangar where the pirateship waits.
But just before he reached the hangar, Darth Vader stepped into view at the end of the tunnel with his red lightsaber activated.
Obi-Wan also activated his lightsaber and stepped slowly forward to face his former apprentice.
"I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan."Darth Vader declared. "We meet again at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the master."
"Only a master of evil, Darth."Obi-Wan responded.
Obi-Wan and Darth Vader began duelling against each other.
The old Jedi master makes a sudden lunge at the Sith Lord but his attack was blocked.
The Jedi moved around the Sith Lord and started backing into the massive starship hangar.
The master and the fallen apprentice stood blocked their lightsabers with each other creating a low buzzing sound.
"Your powers are weak, old man."Darth Vader sneered.
"You can't win, Darth."Obi-Wan declared. "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
This made the Sith Lord more angrier before he continued fighting his former master viciously.
"You should not have come back."Darth Vader stated grimly.
Han and Chewbacca held their blasters as they leaned back against the wall surveying the forward bay, watching the Imperial stormtroopers made their rounds of the hangar.
"Didn't we just leave this party?"Han questioned.
Chewbacca let out a growl as Luke, Leia and Lisa joined up with them.
"What kept you?"Han asked.
"We, uh, ran into some old friends."Leia responded
"Is the ship all right?"Luke asked.
"It seems okay, if we can get to it."Han explained. "I just hope the old man got the tractor beam out of commission."
Lisa's eyes widen she spotted Obi-Wan duelling against Darth Vader.
"Look."Lisa replied quietly.
Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca followed Lisa's gaze to see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader emerging from the hallways on the far side of the docking bay.
This caused the stormtroopers to abandoned their post of guarding the Millennium Falcon.
"Come on, Artoo, we're going."Threepio declared.
Threepio and Artoo began heading to the Millennium Falcon causing the rebels to notice them.
"Now's our chance!"Han admitted. "Go!"
Luke and Lisa slowly watched Obi-Wan as the others headed to the Millennium Falcon.
"Ben?"Luke asked.
Lisa felt her blood run cold as she saw watched Obi-Wan glance at them with a smile before lifting his lightsaber and closing his eyes.
Darth Vader used his lightsaber to slash down Obi-Wan, but the old Jedi disappeared from sight causing his cloak and lightsaber to land on the floor.
"No!"Luke shouted.
"Obi-Wan!"Lisa cried out.
Darth Vader became alarmed hearing his daughter's voice as the stormtroopers started firing at the two siblings.
The Sith Lord looked up to see Luke using his blaster while Lisa used her lightsabers to deflect the blaster bolts from the shooting stormtroopers causing him to take a step forward.
Han joined in the laser fire as Darth Vader looked up and advanced toward the rebels.
"Come on!"Leia yelled out. "Luke! Lisa! It's too late!"
"Blast the door, kid!"Han ordered.
Luke fired his blaster at the door control panel and it exploded.
The door began to slide shut.
Three stormtroopers charged forward firing laser bolts, as the door slides to a close behind them, shutting Vader and the other troops out of the docking bay.
"Run, Luke, Lisa, run!"Obi-Wan's voice ordered.
Luke looked around to see where the voice came from as Lisa brought him quickly into the Millennium Falcon while ducking gunfire from the stormtroopers and raced into the ship.
Inside the Millennium Falcon...
Han pulled back on the controls and the ship begins to move.
The dull thud of laser bolts bouncing off the outside of the ship as Chewbacca adjusted his controls.
"I hope that old man got that tractor beam out of commission or this is gonna be a real short trip."Han reotrted.
Chewbacca growled in agreement.
In Space...
The Millennium Falcon powered away from the Death Star docking bay and disappeared into the vastness of space.
Next Luke will meet Ferus, Ezra and the rest of the gang before the Battle of Yavin:)
