Chapter 9

Having just made a discovery regarding the cylindrical object that they found on Lothal, Anakin and Hiccup had gathered the other members of the Jedi Council for a late night meeting.

Anakin and Hiccup stood in front of a wall in the Council room before Hiccup says, "Anakin? You mind doing the honors?"

Anakin nods. "With pleasure." He holds up the device and connects the end of his lightsaber to the connection ports before activating the saber, causing the device to project a blue circle, showing a bunch of people and planets.

Everyone was filled with shock and awe at the projection with Obi-Wan commenting, "Well, this was certainly worth getting out of bed at this hour."

Kit Fisto then asks, "Look, it appears there are people all over the image."

"Not just people..." Mace says. "…Jedi. Just look…" he points to an image of a person lifting boulders with his hands, another holding a stick like a lightsaber and another meditating with the top of its head filled with energy.

Obi-Wan asks, "What are those planets though? I don't know if I recall them."

Anakin replies, "That's why I wanted to show you all, see if you can identify any of them."

Yoda replies, "Hmm, heard of some of these planets, I have. Supposed to contain hidden Jedi temples, but been to, I have not."

Anakin adds, "And that's not all, just look at this." He turns the dial at the top of the device, causing it to change and show Anakin's head with the following text underneath it:

Force/fighting style: Physical combat

Master: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Apprentice: Ahsoka Tano'

Obi-Wan comments, "Wait, so this thing scans your lightsaber crystal and can tell you all about you?"

Anakin replies, "Not just me, either, look." He turns the dial just below the top one, showing more profiles. "It's got info on Obi-Wan, Master Plo, Master Mundi, Nadar Webb, even that kid, Caleb Dume."

He turns the knob a few more times, showing one face that Mace recognized. "Wait, Sanar Jogal? He died when Yoda was still a Padawan."

Yoda nods. "right, You are, Master Wendu. So, give info on any Jedi with the same force energy, this device can."

Anakin nods. "Exactly. This device, this…Jedi Scope can tell us about every Jedi with the same force energy that ever was or is."

Mace asks, "Hold on, Jedi Scope? How do you know this thing is called a Jedi Scope?"

Anakin replies, "Well, you see…I made it up."

Obi-Wan comments, "Jedi Scope does seem like a fitting name."

Mace then puts a hand on his chin. "Ok, so this device can show us about Jedi with the same force energy, but…If we were to get a hold of a Sith crystal…"

Hiccup nods. "We could learn more than we ever hoped about current and past Sith."

Obi-Wan scoffs to that. "Great, cause we all have a Sith lightsaber crystal lying around."

Anakin nods. "Ok, we can put a pin on that, but here's the other cool part." He turns a few more dials, showing what looked like a map to some planet they couldn't recognize.

Mace asks, "Well? What is it?"

Ki-Adi, who was there via hologram, replies, "That looks like the forests on the planet, Jakeen, towards the outer rim. I spent some time training there. It was a long time ago, yes, but I do recognize that location."

Obi-Wan asks, "But, what does that lead to?"

Hiccup replies, "Who knows? Treasure, a Jedi temple, could be literally anything. The point is that, with this Jedi Scope, just think of the possibilities. The Jedi we can learn about, the artifacts or temples we could find, the thought of it just makes me jittery with excitement."

Mace nods. "I agree that the thought is thrilling, but we do need to be more careful than before. This…Jedi Scope, as you call it, is a very valuable tool that cannot, under any circumstances, fall into the wrong hands. We'll need to keep it under close guard."

Anakin nods. "Yes, we should, but why can't we have a bit of fun with it? Let's see what sort of treasures lie on Jakeen."

Mace replies, "We will, but for now, I'm afraid that duty calls, Skywalker."

Anakin's face drops. "Wh-what?"

Mace nods. "I got the message just before coming here. It seems that Separatist forces have been spotted heading towards Alderaan, and we need to send some scouts to scope out the situation."

Anakin then asks, "Why not send a droid or some clones out to investigate?"

Mace replies, "I'm sorry, Skywalker. I'm afraid that, with this war raging on, we can't just go out treasure hunting as we wish. The war always comes first, I hope that, by now, you would know that. You may take Padawan Haddock with you as your Padawan is busy with her own duties."

Anakin looked to Obi-Wan then to the other Jedi in the room and knew there was no way he was going to win this, so he simply bows and replies, "Yes, Master. I'll head out now."

Mace nods. "Good."

Hiccup, Anakin and Artoo board the Twilight and once they were in hyperspace, Hiccup could tell, even without The Force, that something was bugging Anakin's mind. Hiccup says, "I get what you're feeling, I was excited to get to looking for treasures too, but it's like Master Wendu said, the war comes first."

Anakin sighs. "Yeah, I suppose." He then presses a few buttons and says, "Exiting Hyperspace."

The ship slows down to the point where Hiccup and Anakin could see full view of a green planet. Hiccup comments, "Wow, Alderaan looks quite different than what I was imagining. Hey, where are the Separatist ships?"

Anakin gives Hiccup a side-eye. "I never said we WERE going to Alderaan." He opens a hatch and takes out the Jedi Scope before waving it in Hiccup's face.

It took a total of 2 seconds for Hiccup to figure out what was going on. "Uh, you know Master Wendu gave us specific orders, right?"

Anakin replies, "I know. Listen, all we're going to do is go in, see if we can find anything, and then be on our way to Alderaan before anyone notices we were gone."

Hiccup blinks to that. "You do know what happened the last time we took a 'little detour', right?"

Anakin chuckles to that. "I do, but the trick is to not let ourselves get captured again." He presses a few more buttons and causes the ship to move forward and down into the planet's atmosphere.
