Maura has experienced that agonizing, seemingly endless time where she doesn't know whether the love of her life is dead more times than she would like. This time, there's one big difference. Married with 4 m/o twins, Maura is finally allowed to be as scared as she's always felt when Jane has been in danger. She's just not sure if the extra support will matter much if Jane dies.

Important background information

A/N: The actual story starts in the next chapter, but this mini story wasn't originally meant to stand alone. Therefore, you need some background information. Feel free to skip it, but if you do, please don't comment about loose strings later. 😉

Trigger warning: Apartment building collapse – the building collapses for different reasons than the condo collapse in Florida, but I just want to be safe since that happened this past summer (June 2021).

Important background information

This story will make references to things that happened prior to the story but aren't canon. This is because this scene was originally planned as a much later scene in the Rizzles "Maybe" Series (Maybe we should have talked sooner). However, the trajectory of that story has changed significantly (the sequel will actually follow Jane and Maura fostering to adopt, but that has nothing to do with this story).

Most importantly, a number of story elements and scenes that have eventually made it into other stories, were originally intended for the "Maybe" Series, so basically all of these things listed below are assumed to have happened prior to this mini story.

1. Maura and Jane got married in Cape Cod and danced in the rain at their wedding (Dancing in the Rain).

2. Maura carried and gave birth to identical twin girls that were biologically hers, but they found a donor that looked like Jane, so the kids actually ended up looking a lot like Jane.

*a. Those kids became Emma and Finn – with a slightly different back story – in Family by Love. Michael from FBL was also originally planned for the Maybe series. He became Nico/Nicolas for this story.

*b. They are renamed Elena and Lucia for this story but with the original back story.

3. The twin's birth was very traumatic – similar to Postpartum Love but the specific trauma was somewhat different. She didn't struggle with PPD anywhere to the extent that she did in PL.

*a. Maura struggled to breastfeed, and they decided Jane would breastfeed instead (not part of Postpartum Love).
