A stormy night, with a threat of snow, but we wanted to see the Guys. Sitting on the sofa with Mikey and everyone. Telling the Guys all about the SATs.

"So you have to study our shell off, take a test, and then wait and pray that you are going to get a good score to get into a good school?" Don questioned.

"I don't get it," Raph said. "You work and have to prove that you can master a stupid test."

"Yeah," Alex muttered. "It's stupid but it is what it is."

"No thank you," Mikey said. "I'm horrible at tests."

Raph just gave him a smirk.

Making us fight back a smirk.

Right as the power in the lair cut off. Mikey gave a squeak making Alex laugh.

"Donatello you okay?" Leo asked into the darkness.

"I thought I was grounding that terminal but instead I shorted it out. Sorry Mikey but I'm afraid the entertainment system isn't going operational tonight." Don said.

"No!" Mikey yelled. "No!"

His loud footsteps alerted us to him heading for the entertainment systems. "I need my TV time. I… I can't go on without it. Please somebody put me out of my misery."

Small fireballs appeared, casting the lair in a warm and dark glow.

"You mean our misery Mikey," Raph said fists at the ready. "Don't mind if I do."

Right as Master Splinter cleared his throat, stopping Raph in his steps.

Turning to face him.

"Raphael?" He questioned as he walks in carrying a tray of lit candles. "That is enough work for one day my sons."

"But Master what are gonna do?" Mikey asked.

As Master Splinter lay the candles down and sat, the rest of us followed. "No TV, no video games. How did people ever survive in such a nightmare world?"

The small fireballs floated around by an invisible breeze.

"Before TV and video games people survived quite well Michelangelo perhaps even better they told stories," Master Splinter said. "I think we should do just that tell stories."

Mikey groaned loudly and fall onto his back.

"Mikey really?" I asked.

"Who wants to begin?" Master Splinter asked.

"Hey, maybe Leo could tell us about his time with the ancient one?" Don suggested.

"Yeah Leo let's hear about the ancient one," Raph added. "I want to hear all about the new ways you learn to kick butt."

Alex fought back a laugh that slipped out.

"Well I wouldn't know where to start," Leo said, "But the ancient one did tell me a story I think you guys would want to hear about Master Splinter's, Master Hamato Yoshi."

"Well let's hear it," Don said.

"It's a story about a girl," Leo started.

"A girl?" Raph asked. "Does she kick butt?"

"Hush, Raphael," Master Splinter muttered. "Please Leonardo continue."

"Okay our story begins in Tokyo," Leo said.

Viewing the images in our head of a modern Tokyo. "Way back in the early 1960s."

The image shifted to different Tokyo. The lair disappeared and instead, Tokyo appeared.

"I figure some images would help," Alex said waving her fingers.

"Japan was still trying to get back on its feet," Leo said.

"After an attack from Godzilla?" Mikey questioned.

"Mikey," Alex groaned. "Really?"

"Sorry," Mikey said.

"No after its defeat in world war II," Leo said. "It wasn't uncommon to see orphaned children in the street begging for food and money."

Two young boys dressed in rags begged for coins or food but no one seems to care or aid them. A large and short man dressed in a bright green and gold trim robe walked by, wearing a large hat and silver facial hair. A coin fell and bounced off of his shelves coming to a stop in front of the two boys.

"Woe five yen," one said lifting the coin up.

"Shhh, Yoshi," The other said. "Let's keep it." Closing his hands over the coin.

"No Mashimi," Yoshi said pulling his hand away. "That would not be right." He headed towards the man.

"Yoshi," Mashimi wined but followed after him.

"Sir, Sir," Yoshi called. Making the man stop and look back. "Excuse me, sir. You dropped your money."

"What is this?" The man asked. "So much honesty in one that very hungry." Taking the coin back. He looked at the boys and thought for a second before opening his open again. "Try as quickly you can to snatch the coin from my hand and you may keep it."

The two boys shared a look before Mashimi giggled and try.

"I don't think so." The man giggled.

Causing Mashimi to growl in response.

While Yoshi made a grab at it, but the man pulled his hand back. "Ha too slow, both of…" He opens his hand to find the coin gone.

Yoshi opens his hand to find the coin. The two of them shared a smile. "Such speed a natural gift. Come let me buy you something to eat."

"And my friend too," Yoshi said. "Please, sir."

"All right yes the both of you," The man said.

The boys smiled and laugh at each other. "Follow me. Come along."

The three of them walked for what was seen as a long time. Until the man came to stop in front of a large and beautiful dojo.

"And so the ancient one took the boys into his home," Leo said. "And raised them both as if they were his own sons," The boys devoured the food that the ancient one gave them. "They became his students," As the boys trained under the eye of the Ancient one. "And he trained them in the ways of ninjitsu. Year after year they worked hard and learned quickly. And as they grew into young men they became closer than brothers, best of friends who did everything together."

The boys shifted from young boys to older adults training in time with each other, all while the ancient one trained them. "They even fell in love at the same time, with the same girl. Tang Shen."

A beautiful woman with long flowing black hair and warm loving eyes with a careful way of herself. Dressed in a white and blue kimono with a blue leaf design, holding an equally beautiful purple flower, meanwhile, both Yoshi and Mashimi watched from a distance. "They were crazy about her. Tang Shen was also an orphan raised by the ancient one." Yoshi and Mashimi watch as Tang Shen took care of the wet washing.

"Hey," Yoshi called out as Mashimi pushed him out, causing Yoshi to make a fool of himself all while Mashimi laughed making Tang Shen look and smile at them before laughing.

"She was beautiful," Leo said. "Intelligent sweet, Tang Shen took it upon herself to turn the ancient one's house into a home, She saw to it that their makeshift family was well fed and well cared for, and sometimes that care even extended to surprise visitors to her kitchen."

A small grey rat slipped into the kitchen called in by the smell of the food, as Mashimi was eating his noodles.

"Mashimi spied the intruder," As Mashimi lifted his sword at the grey rat. "And his only thought was to exterminate it." The blade came flying towards the rat.

"Mashimi no!" Tang Shen yelled out.

The blade stops before it could strike, she reached out to the poor rat and pulled the blade away. "But Tang Shen saw a hungry innocent creature. And as always her first thought was to care for it."

Tang Shen cut off a small piece of the food that she was cutting and offered it to the rat. "She decided to keep the curious rat as a pet,"

Who took it and eat it happily.

"Seeing that Shen had grown fond of the hungry little visitor, Yoshi built a home for the newest member of their family,"

Seeing how Tang Shen loved the little rat, all while Yoshi watches with kind eyes.

"Though Tang Shen had captured both the boy's hearts over time it became clear that her heart belonged to only one of them," Seeing the three of them being kind before Tang Shen leaned on Yoshi's shoulder. "Yoshi."

Even though Mashimi watched and grew jealous of it.

"One night while out enjoying the city, the friends chanced upon something that would change all their lives forever," Leo said.

As the three of them walk through the night, lighted filled streets of Tokyo. Mashimi was in a bright red tracksuit, while Yoshi was in yellow, with Tang Shen in between them.

"No!" A voice yelled, making the three of them stop and look. "Stay away, please."

In an alley, a well-dressed man was being attacked by ninjas.

"Four against one, have they no honor," Yoshi said. "Let's even the odds and set things right."

Both Mashimi and Yoshi ran into the fight.

"Fearlessly and unarmed, Yoshi led Mashimi into battle against the katana-wielding assailants, against what they later learned were foot ninja," Leo said.

The foot ninja circled both Mashimi and Yoshi. "This was the first time the two young men were to put their ninjitsu skills to use in an actual combat situation."

They shared a look and nod before running into the fight. Mashimi easily attacked and got the blade out as Yoshi grabbed it and started headlong, paring with another blade before jumping over and sending the ninja flying back. "That night Mashimi and Yoshi learned that their ninjitsu training was formidable indeed but that was nothing compared to the revelation they learned about the man they had just saved."

Mashimi thinking he had won the fight stop to glance at the victim as a ninja came running, sword at the ready. The victim came running pushing Mashimi out of harm's way, only to be slash by the blade, as the arm left his body. "Because he wasn't a man at all, he was Utrom." See electric and wire where flesh, blood, and bone should be. "An Utrom called Mortu."

The robot looked at the ninja before lifting and seeing him flying into the trash. Both Boy's looked at each other not sure what to say or do at that moment.

"Mr. Mortu was impressed by their skills," Leo said. "And since the young men had seen his true nature he gave them a choice, leave now and live with the small mystery of what they had seen or considered serving as a guardian and learn the whole story. Ever curious the young men wanted to know more."

The boys bow and smile at Mr. Mortu. "Mr. Mortu unveiled to Yoshi and Mashimi much of what we've come to learn about the Utroms and their centuries-long conflict with the Shredder and the foot."

The three of them walked back to Tang Shen who fear and worried cried through her eyes, as Yoshi reached to comfort her. "By the end of the tale the two young men chose to join the ranks of the guardians, but the ancient one was dead set against it."

"No the guardians are no place for you." The Ancient one growled. As the three of them talk in the dojo "You must not do this, Yoshi a different destiny awaits you, neither of you is ready, you need much more training."

"Sensei!" Mashimi yelled. "We are more than ready!"

"In body perhaps," The Ancient one growled. "But it is your heart and mind that still need training my son." He poked Mashimi head harshly.

"The guardians are an honorable force for good Sensei." Yoshi ague. "I want to help them."

Meanwhile, Tang Shen was listening in, she was processing all of this information herself. Realizing that there was a hidden war that no one knew about.

"No!" The Ancient one growled. "I forbid you to join the guardians,"

She hid quickly as The Ancient one marched past. "That is my final word."

As The Ancient marched off, she looked once more into the dojo.

"But Hamato Yoshi and Yukio Mashimi were not asking for permission. They were no longer boys." Leo said.

The two boys left the dojo for a stronghold of the guardians. Tang Shen fought back tears as they left.

"So they started training with Mr. Mortu and the Utroms," Don in dark blue robes and carrying weapons, and Yoshi was given a gold medal, as Mashimi watched with envious eyes.

"Yoshi was promoted time and time again right up to the top rank of guardian prime. While Mashimi was passed over time and time again. It didn't take long for Mashimi's lack of advancement to turn to jealousy."

Yoshi turned to see his friend walk away, angry as Yoshi looked in surprised.

"Through his friendship with Mashimi began to weaken Yoshi's bond with Tang Shen grew stronger than ever."

Seeing Yoshi walk through the gate, caused Tang Shen's heart to fly as she rushed to greet him, as the ancient one still angry said nothing.

The two stuck to the garden, with a full moon giving them light, the two shared a kiss.

Yoshi was soon called back to the Ultram's, the two shared a bittersweet goodbye, as Mashimi watch them, jealousy roaring to life.

"But the coils of jealousy were winding tighter and tighter," Leo said. "In Mashimi's soul. Until something snapped."

Right as dark, angry clouds roared in with booming claps of thunders and rain began to kiss the ground. As Tang Shen raised her arms happy for the rain.

"Tang Shen!" Mashimi called as a loud clap of thunder broke her from her thoughts. She realized that it was Mashimi.

"Oh Mashimi you startled me," She said smiling at him as the rain kept falling. He said nothing but just watched, confusion and worried flew over her face, as he walks towards her. "What, what is wrong with you?"

An ear pitching scream rang from the courtyard, causing both the ancient one and the rat to stop and looked fearful.

"Tang Shen!" The Ancient one yelled, running to the courtyard, "Tang Shen!"

Looking through the rain to find her, before finding her lifeless body summoned by flowers. "No Tang Shen!"

Running to her side and wept. Meanwhile, Yoshi was back at the Utroms headquarters.

"That night the Utroms in their Tokyo headquarters would suffer their greatest defeat at the hands of one of their own," Leo said.

"It has to be Mashimi," Alex muttered. "It has to be."

The guardians were training when the attack happens.

"They were betrayed," Leo said.

The glass shattered and a smoke bomb appeared as the foot ninjas attacked. As the smoke cleared the Shredder himself appeared.

"Secure all the exits," He ordered. "Let none escape."

Behind Shredder appeared Mashimi don in foot clan outfit.

"Mashimi!" Mr. Mortu cried. "You have betrayed us."

"Mashimi?" Yoshi asked. "Why?"

"How dare you ask why," Mashimi roared. "You betrayed me! We were like brothers but you took everything and left me with nothing. Nothing now I take everything from you," He pulled his blade. "Including your life."

"Guardians initiate evacuation protocol 9 omega." Mr. Mortu yelled.

Utroms began to flying away, as the guardians were fighting back.

Rocket ships began to fly from the roof of the buildings. The foot ninjas ran blood in their eyes.

"Guardian Hamato Yoshi we are leaving!" Mr. Mortu yelled.

The two of them ran to the elevator.

"They eluded us," Shredder said. "You did not tell me of those escape pods."

"I, I was not aware of them," Mashimi muttered. "I swear on my life."

"Yes on your life," Shredder said.

"Yoshi returned to tell Tang Shen all that had happened," Leo said.

As the garden of dojo appeared again this time night with a full moon. As Yoshi walks to the building. "Only to find out the horrible truth."

Yoshi came to a stop in front of The Ancient one mourning over the wrapped body of Tang Shen. Yoshi reached down and pulled the blanket away to show the peaceful face of Tang Shen.

"No," Yoshi cried pulling the blanket away and held her body close to him. "Tang Shen."

Tears began to race down his face.

"No!" He yelled to heaven.

They bury Tang Shen under a tree, as both the Ancient one, Yoshi, and the rat mourned the loss.

"This is my fault," The Ancient one said. "I knew the Mashimi had a dark streak in his heart."

"It is not your fault Master," Yoshi said reaching for the cage and gently moved it to the Ancient one. "It is Mashimi's fault. And he shall pay with his life."

Yoshi stood up holding a blade close, with one last look at Tang Shen's grave, he slipped the blade holder over his shoulder and walked away.

"Be careful my son," The Ancient one said. "Vengeance is like a splinter it gets under your skin and can poison your life."
"But Yoshi could not listen he had but one thought pounding through his entire body," Leo said.

As Yoshi rushed through the foot clan lair, taking out foot ninjas like dummies.

"I have come for Yukio Mashimi!" Yoshi yelled to the small army of foot ninjas. The ninjas summoned him.

"Yoshi had come to the shredder stronghold to face Mashimi and nothing would stop him," Leo said.

Yoshi made easy work of the foot ninjas.

"Yukio Mashimi!" Yoshi yelled being summoned by foot ninjas. "I have come for you Show yourself, Traitor!"

"Mashimi!" Shredder yelled from his throne.

As Mashimi appeared, looking angry.

"Mashimi!" Yoshi growled. "I challenge you to a duel assassin!"

"A duel ha!" Mashimi yelled. "You have ignorantly stepped into the dragon's den Yoshi, I have no need to fight you alone we outnumber you!"

"You are a mistake Yukio Mashimi!" Shredder growled. "You stand alone. Defeat Hamato Yoshi and I will forgive our humiliating retreat from the ultrom base. Only if you defeat Yoshi will I let you live."

"As you wish Master," Mashimi said bowing before Shredder and walking back to Yoshi. "So Yoshi our story has come full circle," He got in a fighting stance. "It began with just the two of us and here it ends with just the two of us."

"This story will only end with one of us Mashimi," Yoshi said before throwing a perfect hit, sending Mashimi flying back.

Mashimi pulled his blade. He launched himself with Yoshi followed and slash at each other. Yoshi fell to his knees with a large cut to his chest.

"Yoshi forgive me." Mashimi fall to his knees and gut, blade falling.

"Seize the guardian!" Shredder ordered. "We will make him lead us to the Ultrom's new home!"

"Yoshi was outnumbered," Leo said. "But he could not allow himself to be captured it was time to leave."

Yoshi ran towards the Shredder, doing a jump kick he crashed through the window into the water between.

"Yoshi escaped the shredder this time. But nothing in his life would ever be the same again."

The scene change to Yoshi and the Ancient one saying goodbye, with the sun setting before them. Yoshi holding the rat cage tightly.

"I must go sensei," Yoshi said.

"I know," He said. "Despite the plans of a foolish old man, one must follow one's destiny no matter where it leads," their bow to each other. "Goodbye, my son."

"Goodbye, Father," Yoshi said.

It soon became in NYC.

"And so Yoshi followed his destiny coming to New York to serve and protect the Utroms as their guardian prime," Leo said.

As Yoshi looked around New York City before smiling down at the rat.

"Well little one I will name you splinter," Yoshi said. "To remind me of what I have done and what I failed to do and together we will remind each other of Tang Shen of her beauty, her kindness, and love."

Both Splinter and Yoshi shared a moment before walking into the TCRI building where Mr. Mortu was waiting.

"Well I think we all know the rest of the story," Leo said.

Alex took a breath and the world returned to the lair.

"Wow what a bummer story," Mikey said.

"Perhaps Michelangelo but perhaps not," Master Splinter said. "Destiny is an inscrutable force at best if not for these events I would never have been brought to New York."

"And The Utroms wouldn't have had to relocate here either," Don added. "Meaning no ooze."

"Meaning no Us," Raph said.

"Yes, the fabric of fate weaves an endless interconnected pattern in which we are all just threads." Master Splinter said.
"That's true," I said. "But I'm sure we would find each other regardless of what beings we were."

"I agree there," Alex said. "Energies, souls whatever you would call it tend to stay in groups."

Master Splinter gave us a smile.

"I do agree with you, Alex," He said. "We are interconnected with various threads."
