Chapter 12:Losing hope on the unknown

Thank you so much to all who support my story and a big thank you to Mariana who has supported me since day 1 of this story and I'm privileged to call my friend as well as Sophia who has been my motivation at times when I have lost motivation as well as been there through all my ups and downs no matter how crazy and is still my friend. I love you both so much and also a big thank you to one person who knows who they are who has stuck around since my previous story and you have been my inspiration to many chapters and kept me writing. Penny's pov:

I woke up to the sound of my phone

ringing. I put my hand on my bedside table to feel for the phone in order to stop the irritating noise. My eyes battled to open as my body begged for more sleep. I answered it not checking who it was as I put it on my ear.

"Who do I need to kill to get some sleep around here ?" I said as my voice still sounded groggy

I heard Amy giggling on the other side," I'm sorry to wake you Penny. "

"Amy ? What's wrong ? Did something happen?" I asked getting worried now.

"No nothing happened just want to get to the hospital early before the surgery with everyone so we can give Sheldon a proper send off into surgery. "

"He is going to be okay Ames. He has to be okay. "

"I hope so. I...I can't lose him, Penny. " She said as I heard her voice crack slightly but before I could say anything she continued," Leo wants to come with. He is determined to come with but I don't know if that is a good idea. "

"We are not losing him Ames. He made it this far for a reason. Bring Leo with. You will need him and he will need you. It won't help him to wait at school endlessly to find out what's going on."

"I know but what if we lose him Penny ? I don't want Leo to find out from a doctor. " She said trying to cover the tears in her voice.

She was nervous and scared which I understood. I was to but she had so much to lose. I couldn't stand the thought of losing my best friend. I refused to think like that.

"Ames honey. It's okay to be scared of the unpredictable. The unknown but Leo needs to be there. He is a Shamy child. He is Sheldon's and your child so him being stubborn runs in his blood. He isn't going to take no as a answer. This is his father and you can't protect him from all the bad in the world even though you want to . He needs this as much as you do. Let him come with. "

There was silence on her side now until she took a big sigh before replying," Okay I will bring him then. Thank you Penny. I appreciate this even though I broke the calling before 11 rule. "

"You are my best friend. You can always break the calling before 11 rule but just try not to do it often okay ? Because I actually love my sleep. "

She gave a laugh now which I was so glad to hear then I heard Mary talking over the phone now.

"Amy , are you sure you are okay ? "

"Yes Mary I told you a thousand times that I'm fine. I just have two left feet . It happens. You worry to much. "

"What happened ?" I asked now

"Nothing. I tripped and fell but I'm okay. The Cooper's on the other hand are determined to make sure I'm okay like I can't protect myself. "

"You make caring sound like a bad thing. " Georgie said now.

"We just making sure you okay. You hit your head and you are carrying my niece or nephew in there as well as you are my favourite sibling so it would be a shame if something happened to you. " Missy said now.

"I'm not in the least bit insulted right now. " Georgie said which sent us laughing.

"We are going to be okay Ames. Today is going to be a good day. " I said glad she had them.

"Today will be a good day. I'm meeting you all there ?" She asked now.

"I will come by so we can leave together. Stuart, Denise and Wil will meet us there. "

"Good I'm glad. More people cheering him on so he can come back to us. " She said now so nervous.

"Deep breath in and out. Today is going to be a good day. "

I heard her take a deep breath in and out now whispering the same thing I said until she took a pause before she said something now," Leonard Charlie Cooper ! What have I said about your Flash PJ's. Go change into proper clothes please so you can have your breakfast or we will be late. "

"I'm sorry Penny. I'm going to go now. Please don't be late. Leo is being a little stubborn at the moment. See you later. "

I laughed now," Good luck doll. Say hello for me. I will see you later. Remember deep breaths in and out. "

We said our goodbyes and I put my gown on to look at Leonard still sleeping. He looked so peaceful. I wish he remained at this level of peace forever. I hated seeing him hurt and cry but I knew it was good. I hate how bad we got because of Sheldon's accident. How communication went out of the window. A part of me was terrified that if Sheldon didn't make it that Leonard and I wouldn't. I was scared we would get worse. I don't think I could survive losing my best friend.

I made my way to the kitchen as I could smell food. Raj was in my kitchen with a red plaid apron cooking.

"Raj, who let you in?" I asked sitting at the counter.

"I let myself in" he said holding a key in his hand.

"We gave you that for emergencies not so you can cook breakfast in our kitchen while we are sleeping. "

"I feel like I don't get appreciated enough in this house. Just drink your coffee. " He said handing me a cup of coffee.

I took it as I took a sip hoping it would wake me up more. It didn't take long for Emma to walk into the kitchen rubbing her eyes.

"Mommy what is Uncle Raj doing in our kitchen and why does he hate sleep. " She said waiting for me to pick her up so she can sit next to me.

I put her on the chair next to me as I kissed her head," Let's ask him because this house loves sleep. " I said looking at him now.

"Like mother like daughter. Emma have some tea maybe that will make you feel better. " He handed her a small cup of tea which she happily took to absorb the warmth in her small hands.

"Thank you " Emma said with a big smile taking a sip after blowing it a couple of times.

"At least she has manners" Raj said looking at me then continued cooking.

"Just keep cooking" I said stealing a piece of bacon and ate it.

Leonard now came into the kitchen as he gave me a small kiss then kissed the top of Emma's head as he was surprised to see us up before him.

"What earthquake woke you guys up ?" He asked sitting down next to Emma.

"Amy" Raj and I said at the same time.

"She must be really nervous about today. " He said as he took the cup of coffee that Raj handed him.

"We all are. Today is a big day. " Raj said handing Emma her food.

"You know this is technically where Sheldon and Amy met ?" I said now looking around the apartment.

"If I recall correctly it was a coffee shop. I was there. " Raj said confused.

"Yes technically they did but the decision to meet her was made here. The thing before our lives changed forever and we didn't know it. We had no idea what a big part of our lives them meeting would be.Raj and Howard set him up for the dating site here,he got matched here,he got blackmailed here. It was all here. "

"I'm technically the reason they are together and no kids are named after me. " He said handing me my food.

"Actually your attempt failed remember ? They terminated their friendship. Who brought them together after that ?" I asked.

"Mary did. She tricked them. So technically I'm the reason they are together because I called her. " Leonard said sipping his coffee.

Raj's phone then rang so he took it out of his apron pocket to see who it was then shook his head while looking at us. He answered the phone and put it by his ear.

"Hey Amy. We were just talking about you. " He said handing Leonard his food.

He took a pause listening to her then continued," Yes Amy. Penny is awake. They are eating breakfast while we are waiting for Howard to pick up Emma for school. I swear I will make sure Penny gets ready as quick as possible so we are out that door soon. "

"Okay Amy we will see you later. It will all be okay. " He said trying to be reassuring then ended the call.

"She is really nervous. I don't think I have seen her like this before. I even heard Georgie telling her to sit down because she was all over the place. Today is going to be a long day. " Raj said eating his food.

"A very long day. " I said sipping my coffee again then looked at Emma who was trying to understand what we were talking about," Sweetie why don't you go get ready for school. I'm coming to help you. " I said getting up while I brought Emma down to the ground.

After we all got ready and I said goodbye to Emma while Howard picked her up. I realised that I had no idea if I was going to tell her good or bad news tonight.I didn't know what my future held anymore. I didn't know if I would wake up sad or happy tomorrow. How was today going to end ?

Once they left we were about to go but then I stopped, looking around the apartment. All I could see was them. Everywhere. They were everywhere. Leonard brought me back to reality now bringing me out of my thoughts.

"What's on your mind Penny ?" He asked now taking my hand and kissing the back of it.

"They are everywhere Leonard. They are all over this apartment building. In his room was where they played DND and he said he loved her for the first time. By the couch is where she comforted him,they built a fort,she slept over, he made her his emergency contact,they filmed fun with flags and where he realised he wanted her back. Over there is where they broke up and there is where they told us they were getting a pet turtle. Over there we found out he proposed and here we found out they won the Nobel prize. " I said pointing to each place then looked at the open front door to see apartment 4B.

"And next door is where he gave her the first tiara she has received. It is where he told Bernie and me he was planning to sleep with her. We watched them share a toothbrush holder there. That's where they spent a big part of their life. Leonard if Amy loses Sheldon there is no hope for any of us. Amy and Sheldon can't lose each other because they are nothing without each other. We can't lose Sheldon today right Leonard? We are getting him back today?" I asked now with tears in my eyes as I searched his for a answer.The answer I needed so desperately.

"We are getting him back. " He said bringing me in now for a hug not sure what to say.

After a moment of silence Raj then spoke," Let's get going. " he said heading out the door now.

Leonard left and I followed as I closed the door not sure what was waiting for me when I come back. The unknown. It was scary. Terrifying but everything had to be okay.

"Okay everyone Penny is the last one who needs to say her goodbye before he goes" Howard said as everyone looked at me.

"Well let's make it short shall we so we can get him back as soon as possible. Sheldon we are not saying goodbye because you are coming back so good luck and stay with us. We love you." I said now staring at his unconscious body.

The doctor came in now with a big smile," You guys ready for this?" He asked looking at us.

"Yes you will look after him won't you ?" Mary asked now.

"We will do everything in our power to bring him back to you guys. " He said looking at Leo now next to Mary and Amy.

"And how are you feeling little guy ?" He said looking at him.

"Scared"

"It's okay to be scared but I know for a fact your daddy will fight just as hard as we will fight for him to come back so we just have to have hope okay ?" He said reaching down to his height.

Leo nodded with a small smile.

"That's a brave boy. Give me a high five ." The doctor said raising his hand which Leo met for a high five.

The doctor straightened himself now and Leo went to Sheldon to hold his hand before he left. Amy then held on to Mary closing her eyes as she was losing her balance.

"Are you okay Amy ?" Mary asked holding on to her.

Amy looked at her then the doctor barely able to keep her eyes open," Doctor I hit my head earlier this morning. I didn't think it was that bad but maybe it was. Do me a favour and check it out for me okay ?" She said loopy struggling to finish her sentence.

She collapsed in Mary's arms while Mary lowered her down to the ground trying to regain her back to conscious. Leo now screamed this loud deafening scream. It hurt me on how loud he could scream for just a little boy.

"Mommy!" He screamed continuously.

"Stuart please get him out of here.He can't see this. " I said looking at him not quite certain what was going on.

Stuart took him out of the room even though Leo refused to leave. The doctor was on his knee flashing his flashlight in her eyes," Mrs Fowler ? Can you hear me ?" He said moving his finger by her eyes but there was nothing.

We were all horrified that we couldn't do anything. We didn't know what to say. More doctors rushed into the room with a hospital bed as they placed her on it.

"You call Dr Smith immediately and take her for a MRI. I think she might have a inner cranial bleed and if this is the case we need to act quick. You look after her like your life depended on it and you update me with any change, and I mean any change do you hear me ?" The doctor said instructing the other doctors which they nodded to.

"Oh and you get the best OBGYN on standby because she is pregnant. I'm holding you guys responsible for letting the right people know about this. " He said rational then looked at me," How far is she ?"

"She is 3 months with twins. "

"You heard her now move it" He said as the doctors rushed her out of the room.

He looked at all of us as we were all still at a loss for words at what happened," I know this is scary right now especially with Sheldon but I have the best doctors on it and will update you as soon as possible. " He said still being rational.

He was about to leave but then turned around to us again," Look after Leo. This is going to be one of the hardest days of his life. Go help him. I will take Sheldon in for surgery. " He said as his earlier smile faded completely.

We left the room to the waiting room. This wasn't happening right now. I could be losing two of my best friends right now. Two of them. I came in trying to get one to come back to us and now I'm desperate to get them both back. How did things escalate so quickly ?

" I'm going to go to church" Mary said trying not to cry now as she left.

Georgie looked at Missy ," I'm going with mom. You stay with them okay?"

Missy nodded with tears in her eyes now and Georgie pulled her in closer scared she would vanish. I heard him whisper in her ear," Please be okay when I come back. "

She nodded crying more on his shoulder," Please be okay when you come back. Look after mom. " She said pulling away.

They were losing everyone around them so I wasn't surprised with how scared they were. I was getting scared to. Georgie left to catch up to Mary. We arrived to the waiting room to still hear Leo screaming for Amy as he cried in Denise's arms. The poor little boy. Once he saw me he pulled away from her to run to me as he hugged me.

"Mommy. Where's mommy ?" He asked hoping I would tell him the words he wanted to hear.

I reached on my one knee now looking him in the eye with tears in my eyes," Honey mommy got hurt this morning. We didn't know how bad it was but the doctors are trying to make her better okay ?"

He shook his head like it could erase my words to make it not real. My heart shattered watching him like this. Missy picked him up as he cried on her dress.

"It's okay Leo. Just cry it out darling. You are being such a big boy for us. " She said as we took our seats.

"I just want mommy and daddy back. I just want them back. Please bring them back. " He said crying even more.

"I know. I want them back to. " She said brushing his hair as she kissed his cheek.

"Hey here you are " Leonard said behind me now taking me out of my mind as I stood outside the hospital watching people live their life as I tried getting fresh air.

"I'm losing them Leonard. " I said feeling the tears come again.

"We are not losing them. "

"You have no say in that. Leo had to cry himself to sleep Leonard. He is only 4. He shouldn't be scared he is going to lose his parents. He shouldn't be in a position of losing his parents. We shouldn't be scared we are going to lose our best friends. " I said crying in his arms.

"I know. It's unfair. We just have to have hope. "

"I'm sick of hope, Leonard. It got me no where. It gets me no where. It gets me with both of my best friends playing Romeo and Juliet. Leonard I can't lose them. Not both of them. I won't survive. "

"We will get through this. I'm scared to. I'm scared to lose both of them but we need just a sliver of hope. Hope that there

is goodness. That they will be fine. "

"What you guys doing out here ? Have you heard from the doctors yet ?" Georgie now asked while Mary was with him barely responding not caring if she was present or not .

She lost hope. You could feel it. She was tired. This was her last straw. Amy was the breaking point. She wasn't only maybe going to lose her son now but maybe now her daughter in law to who was like her second daughter. I didn't blame her for feeling the way she did. She has already lost so much and the world seemed to just keep testing her patience. It was playing a game with her she was losing but the worst thing is that she didn't want to play the game in the first place.

"No we haven't. Leo just fell asleep."Leonard said now.

"Let's head inside okay. " I said walking with Mary inside now.

We took our seat now. Mary sat next to Leo who had Missy's jacket on him as a blanket while I sat next to Leo. Missy and Georgie sat next to Mary but she just watched Leo now not saying anything. A doctor now with brown hair and brown eyes looked around the room now until his eyes met mine. He was looking for us. He walked up to us now trying to give a smile.

"Are you Mrs Fowler's family ?" He asked now

We nodded getting up now listening to what he had to say.

"Well Amy has a inner cranial bleed which basically means there is a bleeding in the brain. We need to get to it fast before she bleeds out and it could lead to brain damage. I know this is a shock to all of you but I was informed she is Sheldon's wife and he has a big surgery at the moment which could have caused her not to feel anything from the fall because of the adrenaline of everything going on. I'm sorry this is happening but they both have the best doctors on the job. We have only the top team working on them both so they are in good hands. "

"What about the babies ? Are they hurt ?" I asked.

"They are just fine. We made sure of it but we got to take her into surgery now and we have the best OBGYN on standby for any help. Just thought I would let you guys know. I will update you more. " He said then left.

We sat down now as we all felt our hope leave more and more. I looked at Leonard now who was holding my hand now trying so hard not to get up and leave right now to ignore this while I wanted alcohol. He was here that is what is important.

"When I said Amy and Sheldon was nothing without each other I didn't mean she had to go with him. " I said

"What is one without the other Penny ? We just have to hope they both come back to us. " He said trying to give a small smile.

I looked at Leo sleeping now peacefully. His screams filled my head now. To know how much lungs the child had shattered me. This must be so scary for him. I told Amy to bring him and now he could lose them both. I couldn't believe this. It was less than a minute until things went all wrong. It was so quick. One minute was all it took to change everything. Did that mean we would have to start fearing every minute of every day ? Did it mean we had to be afraid of being happy scared it would be taken away ? This was unfair . This was all unfair.

Sheldon's pov:

I sat in the surgery room watching the doctors dig their hands inside my body shouting things like: scalpel,ten blade and suction. It was weird seeing them do this but it was interesting. My father was rather disgusted by it. A doctor then came into the room to the main surgeon in charge of my surgery which was my doctor. My doctor looked at him and paid attention to what he had to say now.

"How is she ?" He asked.

"Managing,she is in surgery at the moment with Dr Smith. He said I must let you know. She has a inner cranial bleed so he needs to act quick before it is to late. "

"Is he up for it ? Because if he isn't then I suggest someone else. This isn't any patient. "

"We are aware. He is up for it. "

"That poor child could lose 2 parents at that age. You should have heard him when Mrs Fowler collapsed. I never want to hear that again. You make sure she makes it out of that surgery room alive because if she doesn't I'm not telling the family that she is gone. They have gone through enough already. " He said talking now as he focused on me.

" What happened to Amy ?" I asked worried now looking at my father.

He shrugged his shoulders just as confused as me.

"You may leave thank you but keep me updated. " The doctor said as I watched the other leave.

I felt myself fade away now. Almost like I was glitching between two worlds. I didn't know what was happening.

"What's going on ?"

"Sheldon are you bringing us anywhere ?" He asked scared I chose my grandparents again.

"No I swear . I need to find out what's going on with them. I'm not doing this."

"Then someone is pulling you. "

"Could it be my meemaw and pop pop ?" I asked

"Maybe" He said confused.

We were then transported to a coffee shop. The coffee shop I met Amy in. I then saw her. I couldn't believe my eyes. She was there.

"Amy ?" I said making sure my eyes weren't tricking me.

She looked at me now confused then smiled," Sheldon?"

We stood frozen in our place for a little while then she ran to me as I hugged her picking her up a inch of the ground spinning her making sure she was in my arms right now. Feeling her weight in my arms. She was in my arms . She was here with me.

You probably love me and hate me for this but I swear it is worth it. Let's see what happens in the next chapter then ...Also I know the medical things is unrealistic but I'm not expert and I tried.
