Chapter 12
I took Bryan into our bedroom. Harmione was right behind me. We got him clothed and put to bed. His sisters were still busy playing but after Harmione and I had a talk I'd put them to bed too.
"Harmione, this is getting scary now. He has no fever, no sign of infection, no drop in blood sugar or in his blood pressure..."
"I know...I think I should take him to see a specialist."
"I can take him... You can't afford to miss school...those kids need you...and you need that job."
"But...Bryan..."
"He'll be with me."
"What do you think is wrong with him Charlie?"
"I don't know...I didn't get headaches out of nowhere like that...they were usually caused by something...my sugar mostly...but his sugar is perfectly normal."
"Maybe he fell...has some sort of head trauma or something."
"I don't think so...whatever this is only hits him at random...besides if he did have a head injury the doctors would have caught it."
Harmione sighed. I watched as she went over to Bryan and stoked his head as he slept in our bed.
The next morning Harmione got up bright and early. She called her parents to let them know what was going on with Bryan. Her mom seemed pretty flustered on the phone. So much so she came right over before breakfast.
"Thank God you haven't taken him to any hospital yet!"
"Mom! What are you talking about? It's okay, Charlie is taking him to-"
"No!" She screamed.
"Grandma!" Isabelle shouted and ran toward Hope.
"Hi baby!" She picked her up and held her at the hip.
"Now listen to me...They can stick him with every needle they can find...and force down every pill known to man but none of that is gonna do him any good."
"Why not?" I asked.
"It's not easy to say...it's only something I can show you."
Mom waved her other hand. A ray of pink mana and glitter clouded our vision. As I blinked it away I suddenly remembered a warm night, in a large pink bubble floating in Harmione'd pool. I remember being inside it. She had powers. My beautiful wife had powers. I them remembered the darkness that lingered and followed. I remembered. It was clear once again. I gasped. Harmione gasped when I did. She looked at me. I saw a glint in her eye that I haven't seen in a while. She had remembered as well. She turned from me and created a small ember flame in her hand. She waved her hand and it died out. She then touched her necklace.
"Juju?" She said softly.
"Okay...alright...now before you say anything let me say this I-"
"Mom! I erased Charlie's memory and my friends to protect them, you and dad did it out if spite!"
"Now Harmione Kay...you agreed to it."
"I...oh yeah...I did didn't I?"
"I never imagined me giving your memories and your powers back...I wasn't supposed too...I promised myself I wouldn't so that you could lead normal lives and be free from the life your father and I lead..."
"Hope...you were about to say something about Bryan." I inquired.
"Right! Bryan! Come here sweetie!" Harmione exclaimed.
Bryan came over to Harmione and looked at Hope.
"Bryan...dear...Harmione... Charlie... I've given you back your memories because Bryan needs his mother...he has the spark...and the same gift we do...only he has one part of it...Mind powers...that's right Bry...you hear voices because you can hear the thoughts of others...you can see into the future...as well as the past."
"That's why you had that nightmare huh, buddy?"
He looked at me and nodded.
"So...Bry...I'm here...and so is your Mom...together we can show you how to control your powers...what you choose to do with them is up to you."
He nodded again. We decided that the girls didn't need their memories back just yet. We believed the images of Vilgax would only scare them. They did however rediscover that their grandmother, mother and now their brother had special powers. It was a little hard for them to understand, but Bryan tried his best to explain it to them and keep his sister's in line. We heard Hope gave back the memories of Justice and Jesse as well. She had a strong fear that without their memories they'd grow apart again.
Now that everyone was back on track and on the same page I grew worried about Bryan. He didn't seem bothered by the fact he had a gift. It was only when he couldn't control it that bothered him and us. He was in pain when that happened.
Instead of school, Hope took him home to work with him on it. Meanwhile after breakfast I had the girls in their car seats. I waited patiently for Harmione. After about five minutes I went to look for her.
"Har! I know we had a busy start and an exciting morning but we've got to hit the road!"
I looked everywhere. She was nowhere to be found.
"Har?"
It was then I heard her laugh. I stopped by the kitchen. Over our sink was a window. I pulled the curtain back carefully. There in the backyard was my Harmione playing with Juju she revived from the necklace. She laughed and petted the strange rock dashund.
He was her first real friend. I told her that necklace was stupid a long long time ago. Back then I never truly understood how special it was to her. Juju protected her, and saved her life by sacrificing itself. It was apart of her. That's why I nicknamed her Rocky. I hadn't called her that in a long time. Seeing her outside with Juju made me realize just how hard life has been on her since the very beginning. Now with our Bryan having powers his outlook looked just the same. Although, since he has his mother's strength, and my courage I'm not too worried about him.
We gained more than our memories back that morning. Harmione gained back a piece of her heart that's been lost and forgotten these many years. She was whole again.
